    My wife's strawberry lemonade
    Brian G.

The food was simply awesome. Their potato soup is great old hamburger is very well-made with crispy edges and juicy middle. Our waiter was very courteous and was attentive to our needs. We ate later in the evening, so there was no wait time. We will go back as we've done so many times. I'm gonna try the skillet fajitas. We ate for less than $25. + tip Pay at the table so no waiting The only thing that they could do better is fix the speakers in their stereo system.

Side asparagus with the Surf 'N Turf 10 oz garlic steak
    J M S.

Ordered the Surf 'N Turf that was supposed to have a garlic spread on a 10 oz steak, also included are 12 grilled shrimp, with a side of asparagus and a house salad. The steak had absolutely NO garlic flavor whatsoever and was so tough I couldn't quite exactly cut it with a fork and knife. Basically I had to pull it apart with my bare hands! The shrimp are so tiny, you have to actually count if you receive the whole dozen. It appeared that I did. The photos I took are up close with the camera on zoom; trust me, they are NOT that large in person! The asparagus was okay. The house salad that I added on the side was rather small but also okay. Definitely nothing to write home about. For the price, I was very disappointed. I've paid less for A LOT more and a more satisfying, juicy steak that can actually be cut! The restaurant wasn't that busy so not quite sure why it was substandard. That said, I'll venture elsewhere next time I want a steak!

Mozzarella sticks with Honey Chipotle sauce and ranch

We came here at 4pm, and there was no one else in the restaurant. We got our free chips and salsa, then ordered the mozzarella sticks with the honey chipotle sauce. Oh my goodness it was so good. By the time we got our food we were full. My only complaint was the music was literally blasting the whole time.

Alright so I will start off with this was a visit to complete our "nostalgic dining" tour of stuff we ate in college because we could afford it and wanted to see how it compares as an adult. Our expectations were low. The drinks were great and our server was so wonderful hence the 2 stars. I'd come back for the chips, queso, salsa, and drinks. the brisket quesadilla had so much BBQ sauce, I didn't even finish 1/2 of it. The CBR quesadilla was definitely edible and tasted exactly as I remembered to be honest. Nothing amazing. The honey chipotle chicken crispers were okay. the chicken inside was super dry but I liked the external flavor haha. Egg rolls are nasty. Mini sliders were better than egg rolls worse than chicken. also, they couldn't serve the chilis happy hour specialty drink of the month because it has too much alcohol in it for Utah so that is unfortunate but that's what happens living here. I'd go back for queso and drinks and maybe try a different chicken crisper if I got desperate.

The disgusting spoon that was bought to me with my soup
    Traces S.

We normally love going to chili's but this time wasn't great, the waitress was good, but food was not, we started out with a dirty spoon that looked like someone just sucked chocolate cake off of it! I almost lost my appetite, (sharing a picture) my husband ordered the fajitas and during his meal he bit into a piece of something like chalk, and then my brother in law out of town from California got a dry hamburger! Two managers ended up coming over to our table during our one hour visit. They ended up taking care of our bill, but all the mistakes that were made weren't worth eating there again! The only good thing I could say is... chilies tortilla soup is awesome.

We arrived on a night when they were having a group event for Plant Night. It looked interesting and the attendees were making fun terrarium planters. The bar seats were all taken so we found a table in the back area behind the plant night group near the pool tables which were free play. We had to go to the bar to get our first round of drinks. I stood at the counter awhile without service when the senior bar tender stood nearby and wouldn't look my way. Finally, the other bar tender who was very busy acknowledged me and gave me our drinks. It appeared that the senior bar tender thought we were with the plant group activity and didn't choose to wait on us. After some time passed and we played a few rounds of pool, the senior bar tender came over to our table and filled another round for us. He seemed more friendly and approachable at this point. They looked like they also had karaoke and paint class as activities and other theme nights. My only downside comment is that we did not have any food, but we experienced a rather terrible smell of old fryer grease penetrating through the entire bar. The food appeared to be prepared behind the bar with a counter top fryer. That smell did not encourage us to eat and we were glad to get some fresh air upon leaving. I would certainly return again for the fun but hope the smell would improve upon my return.

The menu is basically the same, and we understand that the ownership is the same, but they just left the franchise. The location is being remodeled on the exterior and a large new patio area is being constructed. It is a bit hard to determine that they are open, because there are a lot of construction things happening, and the "Open" sign is small. It wasn't very busy when we were there at lunch time on a weekday. The service was very friendly and willing to chat with us about the new business. I ordered a Cobb Salad with blue cheese dressing. I remember liking the dressing at the old business, and the dressing was different this time, but still good. The salad had a good variety of toppings standard with a cobb salad, but some of the lettuce was a bit wilted. I just pulled those pieces out and set them on the side. My husband ordered the Wednesday special of 4 chicken wings for $6 deal. He got the naked ones (without breading) with the dry rub flavor. He said they tasted good, but he wished they were more meaty. This is a good place to hang out with friends and watch some sports since they have a bunch of TV's around the room. They also have one pool table and Touch Tunes for music. They have draft beers as well as bottled along with a full bar is if you want a cocktail.

Came both in the afternoon as well as at night. The bartender in the afternoon was super friendly, she was not at all bothered that we had a large group coming in and out. Great to talk to, gave us insights on Utah and the culture here while we were visiting. The bartender later in the evening however... well. We understand the bar was slammed, that is no excuse for the poor attitude and service though. She acted like everyone was a bother to her. When you're a service worker, which I have been, and are working on tips at the bar as well, you shouldn't be that dismissive. Especially when it comes to the safety of your patrons. The crowd in the evening was also weird, not at all super welcoming to outsiders. We were just in our group having drinks and conversation when an older gentleman started to cause an issue. He claimed we had moved his pool balls at his table. We were close, but not at all in the relevant area of the table. He began insulting us and trying to start an issue. We simply told him we didn't move his balls, he could check the cameras if he felt it was that serious, and we even offered multiple times to buy him a new set for the table and move on as grown men. He proceeded to brandish a firearm concealed. Interesting choice to carry at a bar, coming from another CCW holder in my residing state. He later mentioned to the bartender "I have my strap on me if they (us) follow me outside". This was directly by the bar and on camera if you doubt me. The bartender was of 0 assistance when we asked her to simply run the camera back a few minutes and prove we did not touch his table. She was EXTREMELY avoidant and dismissive about a potential hazard in her bar. Stellar service alright. At this point, we ordered the last rounds of whatever we were drinking and closed out. Did not want to tip on the experience, but out of pity for the bartender on the basis of the above issue (it's bullshit but it's still a safety issue) and how slammed she was, along with our group being larger. I've been in that position as a service worker. I hate to give this review because the experience was genuinely ok before this issue in the evening. The drinks were good, prices fair, typical dive bar affair. We aren't sure if racism had any play in this. We were the only minorities in there for the most part, and we have gotten weird stares through our time here in Layton. Nothing as concerning as this bar experience though.

It is just around the corner from the Do Drop Inn bar on the intersection of Hill Field Rd. where the South gate to Hill Air Force Base is located. The new owner has built upon that and re-opened it as the SouthGate Tavern. It is a small space, but feels welcoming as you come in through the door. Beer and liquor license means they have a tap with your standard and light beers as well as some bottles beers and liquor for your cocktail and shots needs. Pool table in the back and a small area that is used for Karaoke on certain nights (Jackson the Karaoke Dude is here a few times a week). On our visit, the beer was cold and the Karaoke was fun, but we didn't sing. They offer food but it was strange that the bartender had to run to a cooler room next to the bathrooms to get the Chicken Fingers and wedges that I ordered. Just grocery store chicken strips that were quickly air-fried and served. Not great. However at least they did have some food offered. Everything else was fun and cool. They do have some daily specials for drinks, etc. If you are in the area and in the mood for cold beer or shots for a good price, stop in and check out the SouthGate tavern.

The crowd can be a little rough and it is a Bar, must be 21 years or older. It has typical bar food, hamburgers and anything you can put in a fryer. But on Thursdays and Saturday Nights, after 6:00PM it is steak night. I usually don't like local grills for steaks, they're usually terrible. But not here, one of the best steaks I've had outside a high dollar steak house. After 6PM it is time for steaks, they close down the other menu items and you have a choice of steak (Ribeye) or steak (Ribeye). You can choose your temperature, I chose MR, and it was probably Med, but that's okay. Comes with a baked potato, a roll and grilled onions and mushrooms. But what stands out was the flavor, so good, place got a little smokey as they grilled. I really like mushrooms and grilled onions, but the steak didn't need em. I took mine off and enjoyed the steak as it was. I did finish the mushrooms and onions as a side. Highly recommend steak night. The salad was plain with cheese and croutons, nothing special. The Potato was cooked perfectly with a cooked crunchy skin, soft potato goodness in the middle. Came with butter and sour cream, I would have liked some cheese, bacon and chives, but it was still good. Lots of food, didn't try dessert. My wife enjoyed her steak too but would have liked some other options, it was a lot of food for her. But lunch for me the next day.
