Chicken Tortilla Soup Bowl
Kayla F.

Chips and salsa were pretty good! I was not a fan of the tortilla soup. The flavor was bland. It tasted like the left over soup of the day. However, the waitress suggested the pollo fundido and that absolutely made up for the soup!!! It was sooo good. The environment was very chill. We went towards closing and i expected to be rushed. The waitress was awesome and very patient. I dont love to be that last customer of the night, but sometimes, you just gotta do it. I'd say it's not super "authentic" but it is tasty!

Want some good, no frills Mexican food? Garcia's is your spot. Cozy decor, not too bright/dark, and the smells from the kitchen hit you as soon as you walk through the door. There were so many good options on the menu, but the manager, Mason, came up to me and said they were throwing down a fresh batch of chile rellenos in the kitchen... I was sold. Everything was packed with flavor. Glad I remembered to take a pic before I closed my eyes and cut loose on this plate!

Gratuitous tortilla chips included

I used to frequent this place some 30 years ago (yes, I'm getting old! :-( Needless to say, I'm with the ways of the world and more into takeout now. I ordered the Pick 2 combo to include two portions of chicken enchiladas. You are allowed two different sides with the meal in which I requested Spanish rice and refried beans. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they do include a plastic bag of their house tortilla chips and a salsa side that is mild in flavor but just as you would receive if dining in the actual restaurant. The chicken enchiladas were good, though a bit disappointing in the portion size that showed up in one tin for the whole meal. They did include shredded lettuce per my request, but no sour cream was included. Spanish rice and refried beans were okay. I just remember this restaurant being a lot better back in the day, so probably wouldn't even consider dining in after reading other's reviews. Sad that the quality has gone down but that seems to be the way everywhere nowadays. The food itself definitely wasn't bad; just not quite exactly sure if it's worth the money when they can't even include a basic condiment like sour cream when Betos and Rancheritos do that at no request. TBH, it reminded me exactly like one of those places when I received it. Definitely not what I would expect from an actual Mexican restaurant!

Wilting shredded lettuce that I was charged additional for on Enchilada Especial that arrived with no enchilada sauce or sour cream!

Wow! Garcia's Mexican Restaurant has really gone downhill. Knowing that this place was a friend's favorite (at least it was until this visit), I ordered the Enchilada Especial "to go" for takeout. It is supposed to come with two chicken enchiladas, topped WITH green enchilada sauce, and jalapeno cream cheese. You get two sides of your choosing with this entree, and I went with Spanish rice and refried beans. I also requested lettuce on the enchiladas in which they charged me an additional fee when I picked them up. No problem, I thought. Well... get to my friend's house and much to our surprise and dismay, there was absolutely NO enchilada sauce whatsoever on them. There was also NO jalapeno sour cream!! It was nothing but a tasteless pile of beige. And the lettuce they charged me additional for was miniscule in portion size in a tiny cup with wilting old shredded lettuce. I attempted to call the store and the phone just rang and rang and rang... Never EVER again will I patronize Garcia's in person or for takeout. And neither will my friend. Go to Mr. Delicious in Clinton. Or any Rancheritos/Betos location. You get much better service, red/green salsa sides, larger portion sizes, fresh ingredients, and they NEVER forget their sauce. The enchiladas ended up being tossed in the garbage they were THAT bad! No way do the inflated prices at this establishment justify the garbage they dispense. Complete RIP-OFF!

Espinaca Con Queso

Two stars because the employees were friendly and the place was clean. The food however was so bad and the only flavor was salt. It felt like a cinco de mayo party at a retirement home hosted by Peggy Hill. We tried Garcia's because I've been searching for smooth white queso since moving to Utah and I heard they had something similar. We had the queso dip which was a spinach queso. It was good but the chips were a bit sad. Overall I'd have to say this isn't the kind of place I'll try again.

Busy mothers day. Wait was not bad. Server was prompt and personable, even being busy with large group seatings. We ordered the Espinaca con queso (queso with spinach and jalapeño) - first time having queso with spinach, nice flavor. Grande burrito was hot, chicken was tender and moist, ultimate burrito was also good, tender chicken, sides with blk beans and rice. Grande burrito was smothered with chili verde that had a nice touch of spice, but was a little dry. Over all a good first time visit.

We started with the spinach and cheese dip , salsa, and bean dip as well as a margarita. The margarita was huge but didn't really taste good which really bummed me out. We are always looking for a good margarita and I guess it still remains elusive. I don't think they mixed it very well and would've been better if they had. The prices were good for drinks though. Cheaper than most places assuming you can have them mix it better. The spinach and cheese dip was surprisingly good though. I could've eaten a few bowls of it for sure. I thought it was going to be overpowered with spinach flavor but it had just the right amount. Highly recommend it. The salsa was a good flavor and I really enjoyed the bean dip they give you as well. I hadn't actually had bean dip before but I would def ask for more if we go back. I got the smothered jack fajitas and they were pretty good. It was a huge portion of course which made for a lot of leftover but it was still good as leftovers. They seasoned the meat well and the cheese was a good touch. I'd eat it again. Overall, we liked the place. We don't really have any go to Mexican places we love here in Utah so it will stay on the short list to visit again.

Only thing good about this place is their chips and bean dip. Last time my husband and I went here we ended up with food poisoning. We went again for someone's birthday party and literally only ate the chips and bean dip. My sister got a Medium Steak and this is what it looked like!! That's not normal. It was straight RUBBER! The person serving is also spilt beans on my white shirt (obviously wasn't on purpose but they should be more careful when carrying food over people). Nothing but a terrible experience every time

Probably the best Mexican place in Layton. Everything I've had there is excellent. I'm a big fan.

My husband and I were invited to an exclusive brunch at Ol Skool to introduce their new breakfast…read moreburrito called The G. The event started out with a bang on a Sunday morning with endless mimosas! The guava went quick, but my husband and I were happy with the orange and pineapple mimosas. While enjoying our mimosas, they brought out the appetizer. It was freshly made guacamole topped with a chili crisp, and it included a flight of their sauces. I'm a sucker for a good guacamole...and their guacamole is great! I loved the chili crisp on top (it reminded me of the Foo Fries they had one time). The chips were salted perfectly and had a good crunch to them. The green sauce was so good, and we liked dipping the guac in it to give the guac a little bit of spice. The salsa had great flavor and I saved some for the main course, but ended up taking the salsa home (I'll touch on that later). The main course was their new special called "The G" which consisted of crinkle cut fries, scrambled eggs, basque chorizo, cheese, Inca sauce, onions, and their new Hood sauce all wrapped up in a flour tortilla. I took one glance at that burrito and I knew I was going to love it, and boy was I right! That sauce mixed with the chorizo and crispy fries really took this burrito to a whole new level. Dare I say it's my new favorite? That flavor and the crunch of the fries really made my tastebuds happy....so much so that I didn't want to change a thing by adding the salsa I saved. The side of fries came with a small container of Hood sauce. With each bite, my husband and I could taste a familiar flavor, but we couldn't quite put our finger on it.....and they wouldn't tell us their secret. We understood though because it's good! After a little bit of digesting, they served us some dessert. It was called "Churros Foster" and it consisted of churros, vanilla ice cream, and it was covered with bananas foster. This dessert was to die for! The cinnamon...the vanilla....the banana....I wanted to lick the bowl clean! I wish this was going to be a new addition to the menu, but for now it's not and I understand. I still really enjoy the churros on their dessert menu. Mimosas, delicious food, and good company! This was such a fun experience and we were very grateful to be invited.

The burritos are always massive and the service is always great. I love that they add a new burrito…read moreon the menu every month. The hood burrito in January is one of my favorites! Pastrami and steak in a burrito is genius work! I also recommend the ol skool sauce! It has a good kick!
