They were already half filled when we got there at 7. Before meal, they brought it a couple dinner rolls and if you bake, you'll know their bread/dinner rolls are made in-house, not night bulk. I double checked with the server and she told me the bread dogs are made the night before and baked in the morning and throughout the day. I'll be happy to just have bread and butter alone but I can't. We ordered the calamari, they were not the rings that other restaurants do, it's 2 inches long, I want to say they were tentacles but not. I was ok with the batter, it was light and went well with the calamari. Verona salad was much bigger than expected. It's definitely a sharing salad for the tiny price tag. Very fresh very, very generous serving. Shrimp scampi with fettuccine was the star of the night. It was tangy because of the fresh lemon, the lemon cuts through the cream sauce and lightened the entire dish. The shrimp were nicely seared while keeping the inside tender, not overcooked. I love this dish.

This is not a fancy, pinky-up establishment. Nobody is going to explain the emotional journey of the chef or tell you where the lettuce went to college. What you will find is cold beer, good food, plenty of TVs, and a room full of people who seem genuinely happy to be there. The atmosphere is exactly what a Texas sports bar should be: relaxed, welcoming, and just loud enough to be fun without requiring sign language to talk to your friends. The staff was friendly, the service was quick, and nobody acted like bringing you food was a personal inconvenience. The food is solid comfort food. Nothing on the menu is trying to reinvent American cuisine, and thank goodness for that. Sometimes you just want a good meal, a cold drink, and a place to watch the game without someone serving a deconstructed cheeseburger on a roof shingle. The best compliment I can give is that this place feels authentic. It's a locals' spot that actually likes its customers. Four stars because there's always room for improvement, but if you're looking for a place to eat, drink, watch sports, and forget about your responsibilities for a little while, the Mule Barn gets the job done. Just don't blame them if "one quick stop" turns into the rest of your evening

We started with the fried dumplings, and they were a pleasant surprise. They have a strong cumin-forward flavor, so don't expect the traditional Asian taste you might be picturing. Once you know that, they're crispy, flavorful, and a great way to start the meal. The reason I'd come back, though, is the chicken fried steak. It's easily one of the best you'll find around here. Tender, hand-breaded, and fried to a beautiful golden crisp, it's exactly the kind of comfort food Texas is known for. I personally would have liked just a touch more seasoning, but that's easy to fix with a little salt and pepper at the table--and the quality of the meat and the cook more than make up for it. Don't overlook the sides. The seasoned fries are addictive, and the skin-on mashed potatoes taste homemade. Honestly, I'd be happy with either one. If you're traveling with kids, this is an easy choice. The butter noodles from the kids' menu come in a generous portion, and ours left happy, full, and asking when we could come back. Every town has a few places to eat, but not every town has a place that makes you glad you stopped. If you're looking for a satisfying dinner with generous portions, great comfort food, and something everyone in the family will enjoy, this is the place I'd recommend. 5 Stars! #ShopLocal Ps... always ask for the off-menu specials like Chicken Parmesan!

Possibly too hip for Bowie, UNFORTUNATELY (My hope is that it does get packed during Bowie Trad Days) Food- The chicken fried rice was excellent, super flavorful, nice big portions, and easily enough for two people. The chips and salsa were fresh and tasty too (the salsa had a good kick without being overwhelming). Everything I tried was very tasty, and the portions are generous for the price Prices- Speaking of price, plates run about $10-20, which feels like a great deal given how much food you get. Definitely good value. Service- Was acceptable. nothing over the top but perfectly fine and friendly enough Environment- Very simple and casual, open layout, nothing fancy at all.
