I have eaten at enough sushi restaurants to know the formula…read more Step 1: Install bamboo. Step 2: Add a dragon. Step 3: Play mysterious flute music. Step 4: Name every roll after either a volcano, a ninja, or an apocalypse. Komodo Loco apparently looked at that formula and said, "Nah." This place has actual character. The restaurant is dark and cool without feeling like you're being interrogated. There are cozy little nooks everywhere, and somehow it manages to feel both laid-back and upscale. Like if a speakeasy and a sushi restaurant had a child who grew up with excellent taste. Then the food arrived. Look, I've had plenty of sushi. I've had good sushi. I've had "my friend won't stop talking about this sushi" sushi. Komodo Loco belongs in the last category. The fish was incredibly fresh, but what really stood out was that the rolls didn't all taste like slight variations of spicy mayo negotiating with cream cheese. The flavors were genuinely original. We ordered the Crispy Rice Bites, the T-Dub Roll, and the Horacio Roll based on our server's recommendations. The Crispy Rice Bites were so good I briefly considered ordering a second round before I had finished the first. The T-Dub Roll disappeared from the plate so quickly that I suspect it may have violated several laws of physics. The Horacio Roll was one of those dishes that makes you stop talking mid-sentence and stare into the middle distance while reconsidering every life choice that led you to not order two of them. Which brings me to our server: Breann. Or Breanna. I apologize for not knowing which one. In my defense, I was busy entering a committed relationship with sushi. My daughter is moving to Denton, and since we don't live here, we asked what we should order. Breann/Breanna immediately became the Gandalf of menu navigation. There was no hesitation. No "everything is good." No vague server diplomacy. Just confident recommendations that absolutely delivered. She was kind, funny, helpful, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. More importantly, she made my daughter feel at home in a city she's about to call home. As a dad, that meant a lot. I also loved how Komodo Loco celebrated Pride Month. Not because restaurants have to weigh in on everything, but because the atmosphere simply communicated: "Hey, you're welcome here." And honestly, that's one of the best things a restaurant can do. Good food fills your stomach. A welcoming place fills the room. Komodo Loco managed to do both. So yes, I'll be back every time I'm in Denton. My daughter thinks she's moving here for school. I think she's moving here so I'll have an excuse to eat at Komodo Loco several times a year. One of us is probably right.

It wasn't very busy at the time, but our drinks still took about ten minutes to arrive. We started with potstickers, which were delicious, and our little one's avocado came out quickly, which we appreciated. However, after placing our order, we noticed several tables seated after us receiving their food before we did. At one point, we were concerned our order may have been overlooked. When the food finally arrived, it was very good--no complaints there--but the wait was a bit disappointing, especially since most of what we ordered were appetizers. Overall, we'd still come back, just hoping for a smoother experience next time.

I :: not saying the names of the places :: ended up basically playing the "I'm stupid" game with the chefs of a few places. At one, I asked him what fish he was cutting and he told me the absolute wrong fish. I basically did the same at another and started asking him what each pre cut fish was and he had no clue. SMH! HOSHI! I found you on uber eats and you gave me faith in amazing food in Wichita Falls! Hoshi, I've ordered so many items and not once have I been disappointed. Plus! Having Thai iced tea sent me overboard on taste and tummy happiness. You all have made me feel at home in hella insanely unfamiliar territory. THANK YOU! Also: I want to add since I read reviews about how it's fake crab.... You're not smart. You live in north Texas. Seriously?! King crab has been frozen for a long time before it hits your stomach and isn't as delicious as it would be fresh off the boat. Blue crab is expensive so I'm sure you'd complain about that as well. Maybe develop your pallet to something other than 'crab,' or ask the correct questions about what you are ordering

My husband ordered the grilled pork with vermicelli and I ordered the salt and pepper ribs. The food was so good my husband ate his entire meal in one sitting! My salt and pepper ribs were so flavorful with the fresh basil and spices. The garlic noodles were the perfect accompaniment. I took home half of my meal and ended up having two more small meals just so I could savor the food! The iced coffee was perfection! It's so conveniently located for us and I would definitely recommend making the trek to our neck of the woods. You won't be disappointed. Staff are great so come and support this family owned small business.

I ordered : Fried rice (2.5/5) - good amount of veggies, but way too greasy. Tofu bites (3/5) - crispy outside, but lacked flavor. Garlic noodles (3/5) - decent, but also on the greasy side. Mango chamoy smoothie (2.5/5) - more like a slushy than a smoothie. Overall, the food was just average. Nothing terrible, but nothing I'd go out of my way to get again. If you're into heavier, greasier dishes, you might enjoy it more than I did.

The menu is small with a section for BBQ, burgers, and sides for this then the next page is Asian (Philippines food) with sides for those dishes. I had the baby back rib plate with 4 bone of ribs, toast, and my sides were Pancit (noodle dish) and potato salad. The ribs were perfection; soft with a light pull off the bone, nice level of smoke, flavor was excellent. Sauce in the table was good but the ribs did not need and flavoring as is. They say the potato salad is one of their specialities and they weren't exaggerating. Not a thing in this order wasn't great. My Wife had the smoked cheeseburger. It was a huge burger with nicely seasoned meat, super fresh bun, and crispy fresh veg made this one of my favorite burgers of all time. Fries were okay, nothing special about them. The star of the show though was the Lumpia. For those of you that don't know what it is think of fried spring rolls. Veg and pork filling then CRISPY fried to perfection. Four in an order and they also have loaded lumpia and brisket lumpia. Wow, you can't get this anywhere in Wise County.

However, coming back today I would definitely not return. We started with the steamed dumplings. They were mushy instead of a nice steamed texture as if they had been sitting in water for an extended (emphasis on EXTENDED) period of time, which should have warned us what was to come. The noodles in our ramen appeared old with different pieces having different textures (soggy/mushy & stale). Everything was lack luster, the service was okay, however my breaking point was seeing one charge via my bank account and seeing another on my receipt. This place needs to find a new cook, freshly make their food, and lock in before they don't last long.

The Wagyu spring rolls? Golden, crispy perfection. That first bite cracks just right and then hits you with that rich, savory Wagyu goodness mixed with a little crunch from the veggies--small but mighty in the best way. The chicken lettuce wraps were so good. Super flavorful without being heavy--perfect balance with the savory sauce, mushrooms, and water chestnuts giving it that little crunch moment. Bonus points for the crispy rice sticks because texture matters and they understood the assignment. And the Spicy General Tso's... this is where they really showed off. Crispy chicken tossed in that sweet-heat Sriracha sesame situation with garlic, chili flakes, and just enough kick to keep things interesting without taking you out. Every bite was hot, fresh, and actually consistent--which, let's be honest, is rare and appreciated. Everything came out hot, quick, and tasted like someone in the kitchen actually cares about what they're doing. And the staff? That's what sealed it. They took a cute, quaint little spot and turned it into a genuinely fun dinner vibe. The kind of place where you don't feel rushed, just taken care of. Now... the only heartbreak of the night: finding out we narrowly missed their boba era Saw the machine wrapped up front like a retired legend and got the story--they were doing boba, but it didn't make the cut. A true "we could've had it all" moment. I'll recover... eventually. Safe to say... we'll be back. Probably sooner than we should be.
