An unexpected gem in the rough. Look, I love hole in the walls, and yes... there are places I judge solely on the "look" of places, but even I know you can't judge a book by its cover. I found myself in Gainesville... not a place I typically go on a daily basis. I needed to grab a bite, I needed to do it quickly, and fast food was just not going to work for me... Driving around I passed this place 2x times before finally giving up and saying to myself... "ugh... ok let's try it". Glad I did. They welcomed me in as if I was a regular there, someone that they see all the time. Not special in the slightest but also not a stranger in the least bit. It was comforting... homely... nice. The nice waitress provided me a menu, asked if I wanted a drink and brought over a basket of chips and salsa, both fresh and delicious. Found my way to the enchiladas and crossed my fingers. Within a few chips and minutes my plate arrived. Decently portioned and hot. Initial thoughts were "man, I'm hungry" and "that came quick!". It did not disappoint. Have I had better? You bet I have... was this good? Well... I finished it without complaint. Decent food, clean and welcoming, good price and a place anyone would be proud to say "I go to Mi Casa for Mexican food". It is a very nice atmosphere. Chips and salsa were good. We had fajita chicken quesadillas and shredded chicken enchiladas, both were good but highly recommend quesadillas. Rice was solid and the charro beans were delicious. Margaritas weren't terrible but very sweet like a slurpee not a traditional margarita. They were very busy but service was good. read more

While traveling to Dallas we decided that we would stop for some Mexican food. Stopped here because of the Yelp ratings. Food was a good 7/10. Service lacked a little, but they were friendly 8/10. The inside was a bit worn down, but it was a good stop for dinner. We ordered Beef Fajitas and Trio Fajitas, which came with chicken/beef/shrimp, along with Puerco en Chile Verde. My parents used to come here all the time. One time when I was visiting, my father wasn't ordering anything but wanted to come to the restaurant, and they insisted on charging us for the chips and salsa even though my mother and I ordered meals. We had an awesome lunch! The guacamole and chips were great and we loved the beef and chicken fajitas. The best part of lunch was our server, Lexi! She was amazing!! Absolutely the best service and so funny! She asked what kind of tortillas we wanted and my husband said round. LOL! Road trip back from Houston, via New Braunsfld and Granbury. Driving through Gainesville bit after lunch but decided on this place. As we walked in this old cowboy was heading out the door! Hey cowboy, what did you have, I asked? "Best darn street tacos ever and refied beans were, too!" Okay we walked in to enjoy the moment! Place is literally up like a Tijuana bar! Cute as heck ! Loved it. Sat down and this tall young man approached our table. I'm talking about 6'4" tall. Our waiter??? And he cooks too! Johnny is worth going there for. Excellent little place here in Gainesville, TX! I had chicken enchiladas and a chicken tamale. Very VERY good! Wife had Chicken fajitas, she loved them, but raved about the refried beans! She loved them! The young man eating on us was a new waiter! He did very well with a little help from a seasoned waiter. Very nice interior with lots of lights. As we were passing through Gainesville, we saw this place on yelp. We (4 of us) decided to try it and we loved it! The tamales are delicious. The enchiladas are awesome shrimp quesadillas were very good. The fajita enchiladas were outstanding and finally the chile relleno was wonderful! We decided to look for some Mexican food on our way back home from win star. Dont blink because you might miss it. It's hidden in a shopping strip. You walk in and the restaurant is nice and clean. You seat yourself and they bring you a massive container of chips and individual salsa. Love this so you can double dip all you want. Lol. We started with the picadillo nachos. Omg they were like mini chalupas. Some of the best picadillo I've had. We also got the brisket queso. The meat was nice and tender. I had the flautas with picadillo, charro beans and more queso. I wish the tortilla was more crispy but overall very good. We finished our meal with a order of sopaillas. What ever you do save room for them. They were extra cinnamon sugary then you add the butter OMG. I will definitely be back when we come to visit winstar again. Thank you for the light conversation! We ordered the fajita burritos mine chicken his beef and we loved them!!!!! The pico de gallo was not super hot but just right. The salsa had some kick and though my stomach doesn't appreciate spice my mouth does!!! So I satisfied both by just having a little. The service was superb. Prompt, helpful, and just the right amount of attentiveness. It's a clean simple establishment and they have the best Mexican food we've found in the area. Dipping my feet into the water of the restaurant scene in Gainesville, TX. My quest is to find the best Mexican/Tex-Mex place in town. I really do need to find this as my place is a solid 20 minutes from anywhere and I want to find a great place I can visit often. First off the chips are so-so and the salsa is a solid 6.5/10. The guacamole is ok, maybe a 7.5 and the blanco queso is also around a 6.5/10. We had the street tacos and flavor alone gives them a 8.5/10..not in love with the tortillas, but the buttery onions really did make them tasty. The margarita, frozen in an old fashion plastic, poolside, coupe cup were not too bad, but way too sweet for me..6/10. I asked for a ranch water and got a very puzzled look from our waitress. I tried to describe the combination of tequila/soda, preferably topo chico, and lime and she told me. "No, we don't do that." She was super sweet and did a very good job taking care of us. This reminded me of tex-mex from about 30 years ago...too sweet and too artificial in flavor. I have a feeling that this place will remain doing it this way forever. read more
