I'm taking a shot at the fact that there is more then one truck, and really not sure who or which one showed up..BUT, our produce Dept at the Muller HEB won a contest, that payed big for everyone e at the store..Free Food!!..Now mind you it was just for 3 options on the Kimchi fries but let's face it..we have all seen the pictures, it's meal in itself!..staff was super friendly and took pre orders for the few of us that showed up early...I personally was uber excited to try this legendary dish, and it seriously was the bomb!!! Options were bulgogi, spicy chicken and tofu..I went with the the beef..all the flavors really came together and I couldn't shovel it in fast enough...a few people thought the spice was way over board ..not a chance for me!!..and now the truth be told..my wife works there as well, HEB that is..and I knew for a fact this wasn't something she would like..she was lost at the word kimchi..Soooo I ate 2...yes 2 servings on kimchi fries..and not at one time did I feel guilty ..this one was the spicy chicken..good, yes but the beef blew it out of the water!!..now we rarely do food trucks , but if I spy one around town, I will sure to stop and grab a plate.. read more

I love that Chi'Lantro sets up a trailer in North Austin so that all of us stuck working far away from most of the trailers can still enjoy some truck food at lunch! My team and I went to the truck behind the Domain Westin today and we were incredibly pleased. This was my second time at Chi'Lantro - so far, I have had the kimchi fries, pork bulgogi tacos, spicy fries, and chicken sandwich. I think the food is great, although I am no expert on Korean food at all. One of my teammates is Korean, however, and thought everything was "inventive and delicious." My favorite thing about this place is that they know what SPICY means. The pork bulgogi taco was amazing, and the tofu kimchi fries I had were the perfect kind of spicy - where it kind of burns going down your throat, but you HAVE TO have another bite. (Helpful hint: make sure to ask for spicy if you want it - I forgot to ask today, my food was still really good but I wouldn't have minded some heat.) The prices are also pretty reasonable for the amount of food you get and the freshness of the ingredients. Everything puts them at four stars so far, but the fifth star comes from the accessibility - their schedule is updated weekly on their website and they give Twitter updates about running late or running out of food. I was going to give ChiLantro 3 stars... but decided on 4. I'm definitely looking forward to trying ChiLantro on it's own, outside of an event. They were the best food vendor to choose from at the Craft Brewers Festival. Obviously, due to the crowds, they had a limited menu of tacos or burritos. I was sort of convinced that I would order two pork tacos but as we got closer to the front of the line they were pushing pork burritos. I'm not usually a burrito girl, I don't like all of my food mixed together. These burritos didn't have beans and included lime rice. Plus they were ready to go! I wasn't disappointed. The pork was cooked perfectly and had some nice heat. I didn't catch the flavor in the rice until the very end, but it was there. Cilantro and lime, delicious! Well its definitely not BAD, but after having Takorea this place is really a let down. I ordered 3 tacos (1 of each pork, chicken, beef). For the size of these things $2 is way overpriced. I think it would take at least 5-6 to fill me up :/. Takorea's are at least double the size and only $2.50. The lettuce on type was very unimpressive/nontasty filler, and while the pork and chicken tasted great, the beef was extremely chewy and tough. Takorea uses a crispier tastier cabbage with fresh garlic that i love and the beef must be a different cut because its so tender everytime! They do beat Takorea on speed of service. My tacos were ready in 1-2 minutes! But getting half the food for the same price and much lower quality overall really doesnt make me want to go back... Im guessing their location and presentation is whats made them so popular, not the actual substance. read more

The $2 tacos and $5 burritos are perfect for late late night snacking. The burritos are a little bit smaller than Chi'Potle but are tasty enough to be worth the 5 bucks. I've now tried the spicy chicken and spicy pork tacos (and tried a bite of the burrito) and highly recommend them for a fast and delicious snack to end the night. I have been a lurker on the yelp boards for years but never written a review. I find it only fitting for my first review to be ChiLantro. My first experience was being taken for a korean taco around 1am on a saturday night in a hummer golf cart(don't ask) and I remember even in my inebriated state thinking "this is awesome!" Fast forward to lunch at least 1-2 times a week at the downtown location now, and the food is still awesome! Yea, yea, I know the whole Korean taco truck thing is a hit and probably overdone in Cali, but I still wanted to see what all the hype was about when I was in Austin for a visit. Finding the place was not a problem since they Twitter it, and I even appreciated the tweet that they were running late on the night I came! I had the bulgogi and beef spicy taco and the chicken quesadilla. That's right, I'm a pig. The tacos were definitely yummy and the sauce had a sure kick to it. If you're not a fan of cilantro, you can request to leave it off. The sauce has a bit of cilantro but this was not a problem for my bf who despises the little green plant. To this day, I'm still not sure if I like the quesadilla or not. Some bites it was like damn this is good. Others it was like man there's way too much cheese in here. BEEF KIMCHI FRIES. I would say more, but like, come on guys. Just like, go get them and stuff. It is a hassle to try and find them and on any given day (their website will be your guide) and you may just not be able to get to them fast enough, but it is fun like a scavenger hunt and it makes it that much better when you are munching on those fries. I would say that I have had other foods here, but I would be lying. Everything always sounds SO GOOD, but I crave those Kimchi fries. You know what I mean? Those foods that just really get in to your head and no other food would be good enough because NO OTHER PLACE has said food. Finally tried ChiLantro and it was every bit as magical as it was made it out to be. The Hawaiian bulgolgi burger (their current special) is an amazing creation: yummy sesame-toasted bread, juicy bulgolgi, pineapple, and other delicious seasonings thrown in. At $6, it's very satisfying. We sat on the curb for so long that they graciously offered us free beef tacos as well. A bite of that affirmed their five star rating. Although the tacos are small, they pile on enough yummy stuff to make it surprisingly filling. There are a lot of good reviews on this place, and they basically say what I have to say, so I'll keep this one nice and short. I came here before it was hyped up, so it definitely exceeded my expectations when I first tried the spicy pork tacos. It was a really fresh and new mix of flavors for me. The beef tacos aren't as flavorful, so I usually order the spicy pork tacos. Sometimes with kimchi, sometimes without (it can be overwhelming). Chilantro parks right outside my place of work on Wednesdays and Fridays, and I had heard so much about them from coworkers I had to check it out. I wanted to check out one taco of each type, but they were out of chicken, so I had two beef and one pork. One dining companion got the same thing, and the other got some tacos and the kim chee fries. It took a little while to order and wait for them to be cooked (but that means it's all made fresh, which is awesome), but after we received our yummies and walked them back to the office, we dug in and were aptly rewarded. I am normally not a fan of pork, but this was delicious. The beef though...oh the beef... it was definitely the standout of the meal, I was glad I got 2 of those tacos. I got a chance to try the fries, and while 5 bucks for a side of fries is pretty expensive - they were HUGE and yummy and could have been a meal in and of itself. 5 stars for food. 0 stars for double charging my credit card and losing my order for 30 minutes. It looked real promising on Saturday night. After all, there was a massive crowd and those chosen few with food looked really happy. The man promised two pork tacos and a basket of fries if I would only sign on the electronic pad. 30 minutes later, I realized that he not only got my name wrong on the ticket but somehow the ticket was completely lost. Long story short, he made us some delicious tacos stat and we walked away disgruntled but hopeful. They were as delicious as promised. Rivulets of flavor flowed out of every crevice. We sat and smugly watched all the drunken suckers without tacos. Two days later, I checked my cc and noticed that they charged me $12 for the food (including tip!) and another $18 for...something? I still can't figure out how that happened. He didn't double charge me because the amounts are different. He only slid my card once that I could tell. Anyway, the total cost of my meal increased by the time required to call my cc company and dispute the charge. Too much effort, and waited too long, for not enough food. I had heard nothing but good things about this food truck and was looking for an opportunity to give it a try. Austin City Limits was just my chance! I went straight up to the food stand and ordered the kimichi fries, it was late and there was no line (yes!). Next, I scrambled around looking for my friends who were wondering where I beelined off to (thank god for glow stick headbands). First bite = flavorful, spicy, creamy, crispy goodness. I'm late to the ChiLantro BBQ party, but I am really glad I made it! Let me begin by saying that in my world if I say something tastes "healthy" this is the kiss of deliciousness death. Food can BE healthy, but it shouldn't taste too healthy. Well let me tell you, the TOFU sliders from ChiLantro are quite un-healthy tasting. Translation: they are delicious. I know it sounds weird, but if you ask me, the act of frying things tends to put them all on an even playing field in terms of flavor. Unless of course, it is fried beer (yes, this really exists and was served at the state fair). As a side note, if you go here late at night (which I did) you can see silly drunk people doing their silly drunk people tricks ... like knocking on the truck as if they were living in some kind of knock-knock joke. I think the the reason drunk guy was knocking is becaue this food trailer/truck is by far one of the tallest trailers from which I have ever purchased food ... as in you have to REALLY reach up there to get give them your money and get your food ... but I would stand on my tippy-toes for an extended period of time if that's what it would take to get some of that ChiLantro goodness. read more

Reasonable amount of protein options, including vegan/vegetarian, and they'll make substitutions for you if you have certain food sensitivities. So I'm in line for my first visit to Chi'Lantro and I'm serious craving an Asian burrito. But then I see all the raving for their Kimchi Fries... "As seen on Food Network"... "Something something award winner"... etc. I'm only a little hungry though, so naturally, I order both entrees. Smh... I'm glad I ordered the Kimchi Fries, because they are definitely what makes Chi'Lantro one of the most popular food trucks in Austin. When I later told people I ate here, I was immediately bombarded with the question, "Did you get the Kimchi Fries??" I did, and they were delicious. I don't even know how to explain them other than a type of Korean nachos... with french fries. If that sounds like the most glorious and backwards marriage you've ever heard, it is. Absolutely delicious and completely unique. The Spicy Chicken Burrito was also very good, but was best as a "side" to the Kimchi Fries. Despite never having ChiLantro while sober, I can still confidently give it 4.5 Stars. Everything I've had has been really good to great. The tacos and burritos are both really good. Full of flavor and super fresh. And hot. I've burned my mouth/tongue multiple times biting into them, although I'm sure the drunkeness did not help. NO REGRETS! Now on to the great... The Kim Chi Fries and Burgers. Ever since my first visit to ChiLantro, I have always gotten the kim chi fries. So damn good. This was years ago I mind you, so i just copied what my college friends ordered. Not until recently have I tried their Burgers.... life changer. Never do I order tacos or burritos anymore, it is always kim chi fries and the burger. Amazing. And of course you get the option to add a fried egg; anytime you get that option, you do it! We visited on a Saturday after finding their schedule on their website. I suggest checking out their schedule online for out of towners to get their specific location. The search for this place was well worth it. We tried their Beef KimChi fries, Beef Bulgogi Taco, and the Pork Bulgogi Taco. You can choose which type of meat you want on your fries. The KimChi fries were amazing and is definitely a must try on every visit. The fries were hot, KimChi wasn't overwhelming for those that aren't big KimChi fans, the amount of Japanese mayo and other red sauce gave the fries unique flavor, and the amount of beef was a good portion. Both of the beef and pork tacos were good, but could have used a little more meat. The flavor of the tacos overall are really good. The KimChi fries were the winner during this visit and are definitely worth the wait if you have a long wait. We visited on a Saturday evening around 9:30 and there was just a short wait (about 10 minutes total) to order and get your food. It was the busiest food truck there. It was well before all the 6th Street patrons would be searching for their late night snacks but I'm sure this place gets pretty crazy later. read more

WORST SERVICE, NOT JUST ONCE, BUT 8 TIMES TRYING! I love the food at the food trucks, but I have to give a one star review because of the service. I have gone to the location at The Picnic off of Barton Springs about 8 times now, and every time I have gone the service is terrible. There are always two people working, and typically the guy that is taking the order is great. The other employee, who is typically cooking, is possibly the rudest person I've ever dealt with in the service industry. The first couple of times I went here, I thought he was probably having a bad day, or was really swamped with orders. But after that I realized that it's simply the way he treats people. Having worked in the service industry for 6 years while in high school and college, I find this behavior unacceptable. Every time I put in my order, he comes over to the window and tells me that my order will take 20-30 minutes and tries his best for me to cancel my order. He doesn't say "would you like something else" he just says "it's going to take a long time, so you probably want to go somewhere else" or something similar, but he says this every time. I am typically ordering quesadillas, but he says this, even if I'm the first person in line when they order. Please note, it's never taken anywhere close to this long. It almost feels like he's just annoyed at having to do any work. Typically I will say, "no that's fine, I'm not in a hurry" but then he'll come back with "well, we may not have enough supplies for it" and then will typically tell the guy taking orders to cut the orders off. This is really annoying when I'm the first person to order, because then everyone I'm with typically has to order somewhere else. I use to love going here when I worked in the domain on Fridays. Everyone who worked that truck was nice and polite, even if they were letting me know it may take a little while when they got backed up. But at this location, I feel like I'm seen as an annoyance more than anything. It took me a long time to finally get fed up enough to write this review. I gave them so many chances. But this is the last time I will ever go to this location, and probably the last time I will eat at Chilantro. I love the quesadillas, which they only serve at the food truck, but with this service and being treated this way, it's not worth it. Especially with a bunch of other options at The Picnic. I would just go to the brick and mortar location, on South Lamar, but they don't serve the quesadillas! It's the only time I've ever heard of a food truck having more selection than the brick and mortar. So I can't get quesadillas at the brick and mortar, so I won't go there, but the service is brutal at the food truck, so it's not worth going there. At this point, I won't go to either and I'll recommend going to other places any time my coworkers suggest Chilantro. I've never stopped going to a place that I liked the food at due to service, but I guess there is a first for everything. read more

KIMCHI FRIES: $6, this is their regular $3 spicy fries with kimchi, bulgogi, onions and cilantro, cheese, and sriracha. Godlike. CALIFORNIA BURRITO: The king of burritos. Bulgogi, rice, salad, cheese, onions and cilantro, salsa, spicy fries, and a fried egg. $7 and absurdly worth it. If you're a wuss, for $2 less they have the same burrito without the fries, but why? KOREAN BURGER: $5 for a damn tasty bulgogi burger with onion, cheese, tomato, the salad, delicious sauce, and a fried egg. I was making a bee line for the bus, and I really wanted to go home. Then, ChiLantro popped up in my peripheral vision. Well, ChiLantro has some pretty inconvenient locations and hours (for me), so I figured I should eat while I had the chance. The Kimchi fries were my choice because I just wanted something to munch on over walking back. At $6, they were a little steep for the amount given, but they certainly sat heavy in the tummy. The "Magic Orange" sauce and sriracha added a creamy and spicy touch. The cheese, onions, and cilantro added a nice nacho touch. The toppings were oddly light for essentially being chili cheese fries. The tofu I got was pretty boring though it was fried up to a soft texture. Lastly, the fries were boring. Give it a try, but I think Coreanos is better. At least for fries... I am not a big fan of Korean tacos, so I am sticking to my fries. If I was not blown away with a touch of alcohol in me, how much more are they merely passable when your body is not detoxifying you from alcohol? read more

On my most recent trip to this food truck the taco tortillas were stale and cold. I ordered the beef and it turned out too sweet. I didn't go to a food truck for dinner if I was going be to served dessert! I also ordered their "hot fries" and was disappointed by the mounds of chili powder they served on their fries. They forgot to add salt so my fries just tasted like dried chili powder and starch- not very appetizing. The wait for my food was terrible as they prioritized people that ordered 5 places behind me who got their food earlier. Is it just me or does everyone overrate this taco truck? Let's get a few things straight. Fact1: I LOVE authentic Mexican street tacos. Fact2: I LOVE Korean food. I will give ChiLantro this - What they're doing is creative and I am happy for their success, but I will not say that this place is so good, that it's worth chasing it down. Where do I begin? for 2 dollars, you can get a palm sized taco with a pinch of meat and a spicy seasame sauce on top of a neat pile of lettuce. I don't remember if the tortillas were flour or corn. I tried the beef and pork tacos. Both tasted like bulgolgi on top of a tortilla, giving you a false illusion of flavor fusion. Truthfully, the Asian flavors over power whatever sense of Mexican there is. Yes the Mexican influence is there with the lime and the tortilla shells, but it tasted more like Korean food in taco form. If this is their definition of flavor fusion from two cultures, I would prefer to have them separate. I much rather go to Al Pastor Tacos on Riverside and order suizos for $2.50. I would rather go get bulgolgi with a side of kimchi at Korea House. The quesdillas were decently flavorful. I can somewhat taste the blending of flavors here, cheese with meats marinated with Asian flavors. Although it was a little strange to eat something like that, the item was filling for a pricey $5 quesadilla. Hats off to the Austin owners who pursued the LA Korean taco truck's success. You have clinched the fanbase that will swear by your food until you no longer serve them on the streets. I still don't get the hype here. I've been here twice during SXSW (ok maybe not the best time to try a food truck) and both times the food has been average to sub-par. Add the fact that there are usually lines that are miles long and you get a recipe that consists of high expectations and antsy stomachs. I had the famous kim chi fries and honestly it just tasted like french fries with mayo and spicy sauce all over it. Not sure where the kim chi was? I also didn't like the bulgogi buger. It was kinda chewy and just generally missing some flavor components that I heard so much about. So what gives? The first time I ate ChiLantro back in '10 I thought it was a solid 1-star place. The corn tortillas clashed with the spicy kimchi, the hot bulgogi was not good with the cold lettuce. I don't know why is was so offensive, I was even well-sloshed and starving, but I just couldn't bring myself to go back. Two years later, long after the novelty of a Korean taco has worn-off, this truck is still on the corner! So, I had to stop and see if I might have been wrong about how good or bad this food is. I have to admit that the recipe seems to have changed, or my pallet has become not-as-selective as before. Under similar circumstances of the first trial, I waited in the long line to try this again. But the corn tortillas taste better now and the beef is really nice! One of the most interesting experiences in Austin was the "trailer park". 4th and Colorado, an intersection that is fairly open, had at least 6 food trucks parked there (semi-permanently). Chi-lantro Korean BBQ had the most awesome spicy bbq pork tacos and kimchee fries. DAMN! It was really an experience, not to mention a great people-watching location. Their Kimchi fries are literally the ultimate delicious greasy salty amazing amalgamation of flavors in a dish ever ever ever. I want to eat them always and forever but I can't because I want to live a long and healthy life. To be fair I haven't tried anything else on the menu but the KIMCHI FRIES are worth a five star review. Service is always great the the price is fair for how much incredible yumminess you get piled on top of those fries. I need some right now... read more
