The view of the sunset from outside tables was beautiful. We sat inside and the aroma of garlic and spices was intoxicating. We ordered through the QR code (had a $2 service charge) which had different items than what was online. We started with beef skewers which set the tone of the meal nicely. Tender and seasoned to perfection. Whatever the orange sauce served with it was, it had good flavor. We ordered dry spiced wings with sauce on side which were piping hot and perfectly crisp. I didn't like the sauce on the side but I prefer dry wings in general. My friend enjoyed the sauce. They were very big and cooked nicely. My friend got pork fried rice and it was a little spicy for me and very smoky. Not bad just not my preference. She liked it very much. It has some fat chunks of pork in it too. When the orange-ish chicken came we thought it was our 2 orders combined! The picture does not do it justice. It was a pile of delicious chicken with a side of white rice and sauce to pair it with. The scallions, peppers, and seasoning all went great with the crisp outside and moist insides. We had an insane amount of leftovers! Servers were very friendly and the cooks know how to get down in the kitchen! Definitely need to come back and try the brisket! Thanks CHIKO!
Some friends of mine wanted to take me here. We got a pluthera of stuff off the menu. The orange chicken hands down was the best. Wasn't a huge fan of the kimchi dumplings although I thought I was going to love. The rice was good, the hot pot or bimipap? not sure what it was called, I wasn't the biggest fan. I really only like the orange chicken. Outside patio was too breezy for my friend, but inside is a weird, feels kinda dirty vibe. We were right next to a big freezer. The staff was super nice and friendly. Maybe just not my type of food. I gave it a try.
Chiko is SO yummy, it now bothers me that I don't live closer! But it is also THAT good that I am so willing to drive from Esco back to Encinitas for this delectable food. The orange-ish chicken is an absolute must have! Perfectly juicy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The flavor is out of this world. While I didn't taste any kimchi in the pork kimchi potstickers, I loved the sauce they were paired with and my partner couldn't have enough of them! Lastly, I'd skip the pork fried rice next time, didn't feel like it was too flavorful. But no hard feelings, just means I can explore more on the menu! Our service experience was a bit odd though. I feel like they were having a very off night, the cashier was trying to resolve a takeout order issue for the customer in front of us. We were never told we could sit down at a table and order from the QR code so we could've saved a few minutes awkwardly waiting in line (as there's not much space to form a line/wait). It sounded like they were experiencing WiFi issues. We brought our dog along so we had to sit on the patio which is totally fine, but it was a freezing evening and they didn't have any of the heaters turned on nor offered to turn them on (none of them had gas tanks in them so we couldn't switch it on ourselves). Although they did offer our pup water twice. Will definitely be back, just hoping the service will be less chaotic next time.
Had an awesome meal at CHIKO! I ordered the orange chicken and the shrimp lo mein--both were packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. The orange chicken had that perfect balance of crispy, tangy, and just the right amount of sweetness. The lo mein was super fresh and loaded with shrimp. What really made the experience next level was the manager/chef. Super friendly, welcoming, and made sure we had an amazing time. You can really tell they care about the food and the people. Will definitely be back--great food and great vibes all around.
We are so disappointed that Chiko closed. It was our Favorite restaurant. The food and staff here were Amazing. Chef's Hunter and Ryan please respond here where you are working now as we would like to support you.

We dined in this past Sunday. Patrons can either use a QR code or request a paper menu to order . Personally, I'm not a fan of using QR codes to order my food when dining in. Their food was palatable. A very good intersection of Asian flavors. Yet, pricey. Friendly staff. Unfortunately, the tastiness of the food and the welcoming of the staff were unfairly underscored by the atmosphere of the restaurant. The tables were sticky and the floor of the restaurant was dirty . I get it. How do you keep cement clean ? Since it's a place where people eat, you just have to be vigilant about it . Grease lined the walls. The lighting above the area where they prepared the food had spider webs (long strands ) hanging down. And , the staff prepping and cooking the food did not have their long hair in hair nets . I watched a server wipe down a table and not wash his hands afterwards. He went straight back to the table behind where I was sitting. He put on gloves and resumed placing noodles into plastic bags/weighing them on a scale . Needless to say, their flavorful food and kind staff is not enough for me to return.
This is a surprisingly good fast casual spot in Encinitas! I'm not from around the area but had Chiko starred on my list of places to check out if I ever did venture there. I'm extremely glad we went and understand how it ended up on my list in the first place! The space is small but there is outdoor seating. The service is done electronically through their QR code at the table but you can also order up front. The portion sizes were a LOT bigger than we expected so the prices were comparable! Every dish we had was bursting with flavor! We enjoyed everything we ordered and even considered ordering extra to take with us. We ordered crispy shrimp, steamed rice with furikake butter, and spicy cumin lamb stir-fry. If we come back, we will DEFINITELY try to order the orange chicken.
Excellent food that is varied and freshly prepared mostly for takeout. Fried chicken is superb and noodle dishes are delicious. A few tables inside but it seems much of their customers are piking up to go.
Fun concept and a lot of fun options! Came by at a weird hour (3pm on a Friday), so parking was easy and food came pretty quickly. After a difficult few rounds of choices btwn us, we narrowed it down to cumin lamb noodles and the brussel sprouts. Growing up w Chinese food, I thought this was a fun reminiscent dish! Loved the clingy ragu style lamb and familiar flavors. Only con was a little greasy for my taste. That being said, the brussel sprouts were not a great flavor match w the noodles since both were heavy dishes. Would've opted for the noodles and a salad in retrospect. You order through the toast tab and servers bring things out to you. We did have to wipe our table outside down before we ate... Got a little scared by a train partway through our meal, so be aware if you're outside! Overall, I'm glad I came to try! More of a casual pickup/quick meal spot for me
TL;DR: fun Chinese/Korean-fusion eats with a cute backyard patio for outdoor dining Ordered: - Full Monty banchan (4/5): really fresh and different style of banchan compared to a traditional Korean restaurant. Big fan of the picked radish and kimchi. Not so much of the rice and furikake butter - Mushroom Juk (4/5): wanted to like this more but would've loved something crunchy to provide a change in texture - Soy Glazed Brisket (4.5/5): Really yummy brisket but way too much rice for proportion - Pork and Kimchi dumplings (4/5): crispy and yummy but missing a lot of the kimchi funk covered by the pork - Korean Fried Wings - dry (5/5): super crispy and flavorful throughout. Exactly what we wanted for wings - House Fried Rice (3/5): didn't find this special especially when compared to the rest of the rice dishes we ordered Overall, good food and relaxed ambiance - always down to come back to try more new dishes! Worth the try: Orange-ish chicken, hands down. Plus the custard if you've got room for dessert (which should always be the case). Tip: They do contactless ordering and payments! You can also order ahead for pickup or delivery. Bonus tip: They have special menus from time to time, so give them a follow on social media! Orange-ish Chicken: Perfectly crisp breaded, moist chicken. I was a nonbeliever and thought why would I pay $17 for orange chicken when I can get some at Panda Express for way less? I. AM. NOW. A. BELIEVER. This was the best dish for sure. Portions are huge and comes with rice. They also put the sauce to the side to suit your saucy preferences. Brussel Sprouts: Beautifully roasted Brussel sprouts. The star here is the gochujang aioli that complements the vegetables so well. XO Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry: XO sauce in rice porridge with HUGE pieces of shrimp. Not my favorite but still good to try! Galbi Beef Skewers: simple, delicious, beefy skewers that pairs with ssamjang sauce (savory, spicy paste) Spicy Ribeye and Rice Cake: thinly sliced meat pieces, but I've got to say the mushrooms and rice cakes were my favorite part. Not spicy. Strawberry Custard: berries and blood orange sorbet on top of delectable custard. I'm a huge dessert person and this was an amazingly memorable way to end the meal. Loved the contrast of textures, the refreshing sorbet, and the creaminess of the custard. Everything blended together so well. Overall, worth the drive! A Chinese Korean fusion in Encinitas. It was a dog friendly place with plenty of outdoor seating. They are also located near a huge area for parking: on the street, to the side along the train tracks and behind the building. While sitting outside, we ordered via the QR code placed on the table. It is hard to do a good fusion restaurant mixing both culture's ingredients and making it taste good. It wasn't that the flavor was bad but they kind of felt like they weren't mixing well together. You would taste the ingredients separately and not blend with each other. For example, the dumplings had apples in the sauce but not sure why? The dumplings itself was juicy and flavorful but the sauce didn't add anything to it. It was better just without the sauce. But they put A LOT of sauce on all their dishes (all three that we ordered were heavily sauced so it was salty). Maybe you can order it with less sauce? I normally order as is to see their style. The flavor of the sauce was good but just too much. If you like to eat salty it could be good for you or you might be able to ask for less. I also felt the price were a bit pricy for what we got but what was good was that they do not skimp out on the meat. All dishes had an abundance of meat included and the meat itself were well seasoned. Overall, it was a nice location with easy parking with a lot of thought put into their dishes. read more

I regularly convince my husband and kids to drive 50 miles to eat here every other week. That's how much I LOVE their food. We've been visiting Chiko since they first opened, and they have definitely earned a spot in our regular restaurant rotation. Our family of five likes to eat out for dinner almost daily, and not a week passes by where Chiko doesn't come up when we're trying to decide where to eat. If only it were closer, we'll probably visit weekly. Our favorites are their version of the Orange Chicken, Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Pork Kimchi Potstickers, and Smashed Salmon. My younger son once told me that Chiko ruined Orange Chicken for him because he can't have any other Orange Chicken after eating here because no other version will compare. Saw this place on Instagram and finally able to go last Saturday. The place is very casual with outside seating on the left side and back of the building. If dining in, there's a QR code in each table to order your meal on your phone and complete the payment. Very convenient! Water is also self serve. If you need take out, then you go to the cashier/counter to order and pay there. The server then came with water, table settings and surprisingly a bowl of crispy chicharron, FREE! Perfect to munch on while waiting for the food. They had a special that day with a whole roasted pig with coleslaw on a chives pancake with 2 baby oysters that we definitely ordered. We also ordered the glass noodle (japchae) with generous serving of veggies, this was very tasty. We should have ordered a side of rice with it. My husband and I shared the food to takes both dishes which were good. Glad to have found this place. We will definitely come back to try the other dishes. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is due to the server not coming back after the dishes were served to ask if there's anything else we need or how the food was. read more

A UNIQUE DINING EXPERIENCE. I'm not a big fan with Asian Fusion cuisine, but this place definetely nailed it! After we had an ice cream across the street, we walked around and stumbled upon this place. The menu is pretty unique and looks appetizing, so we decided to give it a try. Within 15 minutes we were seated at the beautiful patio area. There are trains that passing by the restaurant, which i think gave one of a kind dining experience. To order you need open your camera, scan a barcode and directly order on their website. I thought to myself that this is something new. After you pay on their website, within 15 mins or so the food came out. Here are some of the food that we got: -Chilled Noodle Salad: Refreshing! Totally perfect for hot summer days. It bursting with tons of flavor from the peanut sauce. The pear and cucumber add the complexity of the texture, which I like. - The Orange-ish Chicken: I never thought i like a batter this much on a orange chicken! It was thin and extremely crispy. This just give chicken to another level. -The Wagshals Brisket: absolutely love it! This dish is kinda of a cross between a good bbq and chinese dish. I can really taste the smokiness in the brisket. I kinda wish that they put more brisket into the dish. This place is the definition of good food, good staff, and good vibe! Definetely one of the place that I would remember, and recommend whenever visiting Encinitas area. read more

I have been seeing recommendations for CkiKo during my visits to YELP and being part Asian (half Japanese) and having traveled extensively for years to both China and Korea, sources of two of my favorite cuisines, so I had to try it. The restaurant feels like a beach bistro - very casual, very informal, very hip. There is no waitress service - there is a QR come on the table where you order your dishes and even pay so, it's very cutting edge in terms of the new way to be served. Food preparation and time for delivery to your table is very fast and efficient - I was really surprised at how fast, but we arrived at 5:00 PM, before any rush, so that may have been the reason why. The portions are HUGE for two and we ordered was too much food, but did so with the intent to try as many interesting dishes as reasonably possible and having left overs for lunch on the following days. We ordered the following: Pork Pot Stickers - These were delicious, perfect blend of flavors and HUGE. Double-Fried Chicken Wings (Dry Spiced option) - I think these were some of the best chicken wings I have ever had. They were HUGE - some of the largest chicken wings I have ever had!! Galbi Beef Skewers - A MUST TRY - the Galbi flavor is perfect, just like being back in Korea. Wok Blistered Chinese Broccoli - Hmmmmm, . . . . . .so, the broccoli are HUGE and perfectly cooked, but the sauce was a little too much and overpowered the ability to enjoy the blend of flavors - every bite was sauce. Spicy Cumin Lamb Stir Fry - An interesting, spicy dish - I've spent a lot of time in Inner Mongolia where this dish probably originated and this variation is a blend of flavors that is interesting but I'm not sure I would ever order this again. I really wanted to focus on the cumin lamb but the noodles and wetness of this dish was not o my liking, . . . . .but my view is biased by the authentic dish. LOOKING FORWARD TO GOING BACK AND TRYING OTHER DISHES, . . . . especially the Garlic stir fry, the Spicy Ribeye and rice cakes (called duk), the Pork Fred Rice and I want to try their kimchi. And we will definitely get the Galbi Beef Skewers, the Pot Stickers and the chicken wings, but will go with another couple to share the HUGE portions!! read more

Chiko is my favorite spot in Encinitas! It's in a perfect location downtown with ice cream and gelato shops down the block for desserts after. I've been here three times and each time I get the Soy Glazed Brisket. It is mouthwatering delicious. We also got the Chinese broccoli which is so flavorful I would be happy just eating that with rice. I liked the Full Monty side dishes as well, but when it comes to Korean side dishes, I've had had better. It is a nice acidic side to add to the rest of the food though. All in all, still my go to for Asian food in Encinitas. read more
I've been wanting to try Chiko for some time now, but I hadn't got around to it till recently. I was drawn by the unique menu of Chinese / Korean fusion. I ended up trying the Orangish chicken which it there take on Orange chicken. It was pretty good I think a good staple item to order with other dishes. The potion can feed two if your sharing, though the rice is a small portion for one. Also had the beef skewers which I thought was alright. Very small portion for the price, I would probably get something out. I would like to come back and try some other items especially the sesame custard looks amazing. The food was good though I had to wait and reheat the food after a long drive back. I would like to come back and try some different items on the menu to see if my experience lines up with the great reviews that this place has received. read more
Okay my biggest complaint is that the tofu add on does not come as a whole dish on its own because WOW THAT WAS DELICIOUS. Absolutely everything was flavorful and like nothing I've ever had before. Tons of vegetarian options and I can't wait to work my way through the menu. Portions are pretty large but match the price. Definitely looking forward to becoming regulars. read more

GREAT fusion food! We found this place bike riding down the coast. We thought to give it a try and we are glad we did. Everything had great flavor, a bit of a spicy kick, and good portions. Delicious fusion Chinese-Korean food! **I ate here when they had patio dining. The style of ordering is fast casual- order at the counter and they bring the food to you. I liked the portion size of the entrees, definitely enough for leftovers! I also like the Full Monty of side dishes- the lotus root was a new one for me. Was looking for some korean food in the area and this restaurant popped up! Fushion korean and chinese food with a hipster vibe. The waitress was super nice and the outdoor patio area was beautiful. Ordered the pork belly skewers, galbi beef skewers, mashed salmon, and the full monty. Everything was delicious. Portions were generous and we couldn't even finish everything. read more

Finally got to try this place- it's an order at your table via QR code. Might be difficult for the less tech savvy (i.e. my mom) we got the pork fried rice- beyond delicious- the orange ish chicken- sooo good. And the lamb stir fry noodle dish- good- but unfortunately my husband ate most of it as it was too spicy for me (I'm a wimp) lol everything tasted great. Had good flavors- cons: ordering via QR code- I'm kind of over it- especially when I dont want to be on my phone anymore than I already am, also it's a little pricey- 3 dishes $57- husband loved it and we look forward to coming back and trying other options read more

Yes! They do have Pork & Kimchi potstickers (dumplings). I'm not sure how it taste, I never try it before.
