I enjoyed this restaurant last year when I was here on vacation and came back again this year. The steamed vegetables with a white sauce that has plenty of garlic was delicious. The Singapore noodles were as good as I remembered and the crab Rangoon was good too. This time I picked up my own food rather than using delivery. The service is amazing. Very attentive staffs. My pork chow mein came out before my orange chicken. That was not an issue as it was piping hot. I should of asked if they had barbecue pork, but the pork pieces were kind of clump together making it difficult with the pork and noodle ratio- overall, it was OK. I probably won't get that again. The orange chicken was good and the chicken was crispy. I took it up a notch and added some of the chili oil on top- it wasn't that hot. It was just the right amount of flavor that I needed. A Friday night Cruise Escondido brought us to the area on our San Diego vacation. On our way back to the highway we decided to find dinner and China Fun was nearby. It gets good ratings because of the chefs, but the restaurant itself was a bit austere. Seated immediately and greeted by a server who was literally RUNNING hot food out to tables. Hard working and no time to chat, our server brought water and took our orders briskly. I had to ask my usual "what vegetables are in this dish" several times before I could order and I settled on the Happy Family, with beef chicken fish and shrimp but no pork. Husband had a spicy Szechuan Beef. The dishes came out super fast with our individual bowls of steamed rice, so we dug in. I am used to using chopsticks but they were not in evidence, so I forked it up. My dish was lightly seasoned and had big chunks of white fish which were likely battered and fried before being added to the sauce. I tried not to think about how much batter as I try to be mostly gluten free. Otherwise it was a solid preparation of a classic dish. Tender chicken, beef and shrimp. The spicy Szechuan Beef had visible red chili and jalapeno slices stir fried with the veggies. Husband really enjoyed it. We had some leftovers of both dishes, and the prices were very reasonable. You pay at the counter when done, a thing I see more in CA than AZ. But it frees up the busy servers to RUN some more delicious hot meals to tables. Just don't expect ambiance here! read more

I've been wanting to visit China Fun since I moved to Escondido, and we finally did. We ordered the Teriyaki chicken, pepper chicken wings, fried rice and a vegetable plate and it was delicious! The food was fresh, sauces light and the wings were crispy but not overly fried as it is in other places .The ambiance is very casual with a chill vibe and the servers are very attentive and fast. The food is great and the value is excellent. My only constructive feedback is to slow down a little. Our server kept asking if we were ready before we had even opened the menu. I ordered two lunch specials, but one wasn't available as a lunch special and no one told me until the food came out. My family got take out last week and as I was eating I nearly broke a tooth in something very hard in my food. Turns out is was a fairly large piece of gravel! How the heck does gravel get in to your food. Needless to say I won't be going back there any time soon. There is no way gravel is present in any of the ingredients, so how it got there is beyond me. This is the first time ordering delivery from this restaurant. What I ordered looked a lot different than the photos. The House Chow Fun had flat rice noodles instead of Udon noodles which were depicted in the photo. Plus I got very little meat (I ordered the chicken, shrimp and beef). The same went for the MooShu vegetables. There was no baby corn, snow peas and it was chopped so fine it resembled a Cole slaw. It was mushy and soggy. No crispness at all. Now, they use oranges to take up a good amount of space so there is barely enough for a full meal. I don't eat a ton of food, but both raising prices and lessening the portions doesn't sit well. Please lose the oranges being placed in EVERY compartment, hiding them under the noodles, hiding them at the bottom of everything. It's a garnish, and garnishes go on TOP and are not 1" thick slices. Only found this place a few months ago and we've already been there four times now. Considering it's a good distance from our house, mixed with my desire to typically try new places when we go out, and that's a fairly impressive indicator of how much I like China Fun. From the outside it doesn't seem like much. What looks like an old Pizza Hut exterior had been painted over, some graffiti still evident, in a parking lot shared with a Jack in the Box, and a Home Depot shopping center across the street that boasts a greater variety of other restaurants to try. Going through the doors, however, greets you with a cozy and open interior dining area that's clean and bright. The staff is quick and helpful to navigate through their extensive menu. And the food comes out fast and very fresh after ordering. So far, I've had the Beijing Beef, which was lightly spicy and crispy with a delightful chew that wasn't tough or difficult to bite. The Sesame Chicken, a nicely light fried dish in a mildly sweet glaze. And the Sweet and Sour Pork which was surprising tender after being breaded in a full, tempura batter. All of these dishes have a clean taste, a nice blending of flavors, with fresh ingredients and an overall great presentation. My wife has had the Chicken with Broccoli, one of her favorite dishes back east in Ohio, that she rarely see on menus here in California. The Beef with Broccoli, which had the same nice presentation and great coloring to the dish, without everything glopping together under too much sauce. And the Egg Fried Rice which had a fantastic flavor without being too oily or overly salted. She has never had any issue with anything she's ordered. My son always chooses the Sweet and Sour Shrimp, which come plump and well cooked without any loss of moisture in the seafood that would come from overcooking. He always has his fill and there's enough leftover for lunch the next day. And my daughter has loved both the Sweet and Sour Chicken and the Orange Chicken, as well as enjoying their Fried Rice as much as the rest of the table. I cannot say enough at how good China Fun has been. Consistently prepared, always delicious, an all around great experience every time we choose to have dinner here. The cost is very reasonable, you get enough food with each dish to share or have leftovers, and the food is both fresh and fried up in whatever sweet sauce that Americans have come to love and expect. For what it is, China Fun is exceptional, and it's easy to say we're going to come back often. read more
