    Orange chicken (half eaten)

Gourmet Wok is easily one of my favorite Chinese spots in all of California. It's family-owned, super clean, and feels like the kind of restaurant you'd see in a movie and think, "Man, I wish that place was real." We ordered orange chicken, combo fried rice, wonton soup, and cream cheese puffs. Every single thing was delicious. The orange chicken had the perfect crispy texture with a sweet, tangy sauce. The fried rice actually had flavor, not just soy sauce dumped on top. Wonton soup was clean and comforting. And those cream cheese puffs? Golden and addictive. The prices are very fair, especially considering how good the food is and how generous the portions are. You can tell the family running it takes pride in what they're serving. The decor is authentic in that classic and comforting way. Now here's the thing. It might show up as a 3.5 star spot, but don't let that fool you. This place is a perfect example of the "3.5 star rule." It's the kind of place that's actually better than a lot of those hyped-up influencer-approved restaurants with inflated ratings. You come here once and you'll get it.

My wife and I go here frequently. We both love the great quality, healthy food. The prices have to be among the lowest in the county. The portion sizes are reasonable. They are giving you a great value for the money, with a large selection. It's family operated. The wife and kids run the front, husband cooks. They are very friendly. A great, inexpensive choice, hidden at the end of the plaza.

When it comes to Chinese food, I don't mess around. This place hits! Ordered orange chicken and beef lo mein. My goodness, was that beef velveted and had excellent texture. Perfect noodle to beef to veggie ratio. There's a smell and taste food like lo mein and chow fun (they don't have chow fun in their menu, but you'll like the lo mein anyway) should have, and it's there. Such a charming local owned business, great if you love vintage Chinese cuisine. Like it's such a cute spot, order in and buy also a beer or tea (it's jasmine tea and they serve it in a cute pot).

Came back again to try other food items. super yummy!! This time we tried the salt and pepper chicken, Mongolian beef & orange chicken. The orange chicken was more batter than the actual chicken itself but I was not mad at it. Pretty good still lol. Service & ambiance of the place is still excellent. Can't wait to come back and try more things again soon

They had a wide selection of choices...including veggie choices. There were entries and lunch specials...my friend and I got lunch specials. I got a veggie choice....and my friend got sweet and sour chicken Service was good....the waitress came over with menus and gave us time to look. When she came back, she answered questions and took our orders. When she returned with our meals, she answered questions that I had. I like the way the restaurant was decorated....and it was clean and quiet. If I go back, I would try something different....

She is also incredibly generous with her portions whenever she serves you. Unfortunately, ever since the other employees were hired, the customer service seems to have gone downhill. They often try to serve the smallest portions possible, and they rarely seem to be in a good mood. It really takes away from the warm, welcoming atmosphere that this place was once known for. I still love the food and have a lot of respect for the owner, but I hope the staff can bring back some of that same energy and hospitality. The food deserves it, and so does the owner!

The wings had decent flavor, but some of the chicken pieces seemed oddly shaped and were difficult to eat. The BBQ pork was decent as well, although unfortunately I was given several burnt end pieces that were too hard/burnt for me to eat. There's definitely some room for improvement with the food, but between the great customer service and the items I did enjoy, I'm willing to give them another shot. I'll return and try something different next time.

I've gone here multiple times and have ordered the chili oil dumpling, beef and scallion steamed dumpling and the chicken broth dumplings. Full of flavor every time! After a dumpling spot in Encinitas quit serving some of the items that I enjoyed, we gave it one more shot here because, well you know when you are in the mood for Dumplings.. N more? you are in the mood. The next time was so much better, they must have put handcuffs on whoever controlled the saltshaker before. We have now been here quite a few times and always have a good experience with the food. Is it upscale here? No, is it clean? also probably no lol but the food has been good and consistent. Go to here are always the garlic green beans, and egg with wood ear mushrooms. The wood ear mushrooms are served warm, and I quite like them compared to the normal way I am accustomed to having them, cold and served in a vinegar-based sauce. Normally we will rotate in another item such as the Wontons in red chili oil, which are delicious.
