It's family-owned, super clean, and feels like the kind of restaurant you'd see in a movie and think, "Man, I wish that place was real." We ordered orange chicken, combo fried rice, wonton soup, and cream cheese puffs. Every single thing was delicious. The orange chicken had the perfect crispy texture with a sweet, tangy sauce. The fried rice actually had flavor, not just soy sauce dumped on top. Wonton soup was clean and comforting. And those cream cheese puffs? Golden and addictive. The prices are very fair, especially considering how good the food is and how generous the portions are. You can tell the family running it takes pride in what they're serving. When it comes to Chinese food, I don't mess around. This place hits! Ordered orange chicken and beef lo mein. My goodness, was that beef velveted and had excellent texture. Perfect noodle to beef to veggie ratio. There's a smell and taste food like lo mein and chow fun (they don't have chow fun in their menu, but you'll like the lo mein anyway) should have, and it's there. Such a charming local owned business, great if you love vintage Chinese cuisine. Just had an amazing lunch from Gourmet Wok! Had the Moo Shu Pork, delicious and filled with more pork t than anywhere else. Backed on the beef skeeters which were tender and sauced just a bit to make them a perfect starter. And finished with Cream Cheese Wontons. Best part of the meal will always be the service. My son had their dinner special Lo Mein with chicken and I had the Kun Pao chicken, both very generous portions, fast service and tastes just like every Chinese food place when I was growing up. I dined here last week while I was shopping at Vons and Kahoots pet store. I was disappointed. We had the shrimp with garlic sauce with fried rice as a dinner option before that fried golden shrimp with a dab of sweet-and-sour, not much in the bowl. I asked for hot mustard. I had a glass of Chardonnay it was pretty good. A glass of ice water came with the wine which was wonderful. The appetizer of the Golden fried shrimp was excellent. The shrimp with garlic sauce. I asked for extra garlic. I didn't get that it didn't taste of any garlic. The fried rice that came with it. Didn't eat. Looked and tasted like white rice thrown in a pan with soy sauce. I asked about it. The garlic meal was just over the top soy sauce. I like to choose my own amount of soy sauce and what I eat with soy sauce. The soup I had for an appetizer, sweet-and-sour was excellent. But the garlic shrimp with vegetables, the shrimp first was overcooked. So overcooked they were tiny pinwheels of hard shrimp and fairly small. They were in a soupy soy sauce like I buy in a bottle to cook with sometimes. Shrimp was just swimming in that, not tasting fresh. The pre-frozen shrimp just probably went in the pan and got forgotten. They should've noticed that they were overcooked. Soaked soy sauce and Szechuan I buy in a bottle. Wherever the garlic was? I don't always like to have a restaurant give me just dab of sweet-and-sour or to keep asking for more. This is the business now days. We pick up the expense of somebody leaving it on the table wasting food. I expect an adequate amount for my meal. To keep asking is disruptive to them and me. I won't return. Average ambiance. One other thing when we came in I asked to sit at the booth and she said it wasn't ready. I acknowledge that and got placed at a small table between two aisles very unhappy table. A guy came in and he went straight to the booth and sat down. He wasn't told he couldn't sit at the booth. I stood up when she came by. I asked if I could sit at the booth. She looked at him she looked at me and said yes so she seated us at the booth. Take from that what you want. Forgot, the bill was in Chinese. I had no understanding of it. Scribble then amount $48 W/O tip. I left an appropriate tip. I believe in that. read more

I got a veggie choice....and my friend got sweet and sour chicken Service was good....the waitress came over with menus and gave us time to look. When she came back, she answered questions and took our orders. When she returned with our meals, she answered questions that I had. I have been going to this restaurant over ten years because my wife enjoys the shrimp dishes. I enjoy more spicy entrees. Lately the spices are lacking the punch they once had. Not sure. I ordered 1 portion of pork chow main, Mongolian beef and 4 eggrolls. Steamed rice included. $32.55. The food to go prepared fast. A lot of flavor. The eggrolls good and crispy. But I am not sure what kind of "meat" the Mongolian beef was prepared of. It's not a real beef in my opinion. Too soft and almost melted in your mouth. Tests good but it's not what we usually experience with beef. And i asked for the receipt and the cashier lady got a little upset for some reason. I even started to feel guilty and made an excuse I said : I'm buying for somebody else. I was super nice. The lady was not. Just had lunch here. I had the Chicken in a Garlic Hot Sauce. Started off with a small bowl of Hot and Sour Soup that was good. It came with your choice of steamed or fried rice. Fried rice was good. A egg roll. Which was crispy and tasteful. The Chicken was tender. The sauce wasn't hot but just enough spice to it. My wife had the Shrimp in Curry Sauce. Same accomplishments were all good. I love Chinese food. I am looking for a more authentic one. To be fair, there are few places in the area that I recommend. The food here was okay but not great. The tea was from bags. TheKung Pao chicken and the hot & sour soup could be spicier. The beef skewers were excellent (appetizer). They didn't use chopsticks (the area?). A diamond in the rough! The hubby and I were in this evening for dinner and had a great meal. We were greeted and seated promptly with a smile. Our waitress was out super fast with water glasses, and wonton chip with sweet/sour dip. They have a very standard Chinese restaurant menu, so nothing was super exotic or surprising. The hubby ordered the Kung Pao dinner special (it comes with soup, egg roll, and rice), and I had the spicy garlic tofu. Our dinners were out to us in about ten minutes time, our waitress refilled our waters, and we dug in. Everything was yummy. My tofu was crisp, the veggies were fresh and crispy, the hubby's chicken kung pao was delicious. It was all very good. As well, the portion size is pretty generous, and I felt we got very good value. Friendly service, fresh delicious food, good portion size for the money. I went to the Gourmet Wok restaurant today in Escondido to pick some food on my way to work between 1:00 and 1:30. I ordered the salt and pepper chicken wings which was not cooked fresh the color and texture of the chicken appeared to be leftover from a day or maybe two. Once I bit into the chicken the meat was dry and had a dark coloration. Even the red peppers were dried out, also the texture of the green onions were dark and practically mushy. The comb lo mein noodles according to the menu comes chicken, beef, and shrimp. When I got to work and opened my container to find a few strips of beef, but "absolutely no chicken or shrimp", was inside the noodles. The noodles also appeared to not be freshly cooked the cabbage inside the noodles were lamp and not crunchy like it should have been. This meal was a little over $29. But the price is not the issue here to pay almost $30 for chicken and noodles at least I should have gotten a better quality of food. The food was unsatisfactory and not acceptable. I will never patronize this restaurant again and I will never recommend it to anyone. Customer satisfaction comes first and if people are spending their hard earned money to get a decent meal the establishment should be considerate enough to provide fresh cook food to their customers. read more

I really wanted to love this place!! It's still pretty good depending on what you get! I had been waiting for the right day to order their lunch specials because it's such a good deal for the price. Note, it's definitely more cost effective to get two different lunch specials rather than their wok special, which is pretty much the same amount as one order with two different options for almost double the price. This place is not bad at all depends who is cooking and what time of day your come i suppose so far on lunch days and i have been here a total of Five times in the past seven months. The food was great at lunch fresh, seasoned well nothing soggy or regretful. However twice for dinner service I got way over cooked General Tso's chicken and i mean it was clearly not fresh. This didn't ruin the place because they have a large menu so next I tried the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce combo meal with white it was very good. So overall staff is always friendly and inviting, It is family run and sometimes you can see the kids in the middle of the day with the grandparents so it nice to see the family values too. The place could use an overhaul in style somethings are outdated and it could use a one over hard cleaning but it was never a place i felt uncomfortable to eat in or carry out from. This is my experience to each their own, I give four stars because the place needs some updates other then that worth a try ! read more

A little difficult to find in the strip mall; just a few doors down from iHOP. I have a severe allergy to soy and Chinese food was completely off my radar...until my food-sensitive daughter recommended this place... noting that the food is prepared from SCRATCH! .... and finally took it upon herself to place an order for her dad and me. As soon as the young girl answering the phone heard the words "severe food allergy" she passed it to the Chef who assured he can prepare multiple dishes without using any form of soy. What a time of celebration that was!!! And the food was flavorful and SAFE! I completely LOVE the beef or chicken with an array of broccoli, celery, carrots, onions, well...LOTS of stuff!...in a tasty white sauce seasoned just to my liking. Yum!! And if I ask, I can trade the rice for a bed of delicious noodles. SOOO HAPPY! My husband is addicted to the Chop Suey, Lo Mein and War Wonton.
