Dinner tab before giving credit card (CC).

Deceptive business practices or terrible business acumen? Panya Thai Kitchen is/was our favorite Thai restaurant in Escondido until it came time to pay. We were a group of six diners. We asked that four of the orders be on one check and the other two orders on a separate check; no problem. My issues arose once the bill (1st photo) arrived. The bill included a 20% Service Charge. This fee wouldn't have been a concern had this Service Charge policy been noted on the menu or somewhere diners could be made aware. We usually tip a minimum of 20% + depending on the service. The lack of transparency could be an oversight. My second, and more concerning, issue was when we received the bill (2nd photo) to sign for the CC charge. This bill showed the amount owed including the service charge all in one total, not itemized. My concern was that on the bottom of this ticket was an area that showed how much a 18%, 20%, 22% tip would be even though a tip was already included in the total. If a diner wasn't paying attention to the first bill they wouldn't realize a tip was already given and another tip might be paid. All I ask is for transparency!

Thai Fried Rice and Sweet Basil stir fry- delicious!

We ate dinner from Panya two days in a row- the food just hit the spot. Although the indoor seating atmosphere is nice, and parking outside is decent, I won't comment on ambiance beyond that because we had food to go. The pad Thai, fried rice, eggplant stir fry and sweet basil stir fry were all great. The two stir fry dishes had runny sauce that was delicious, especially with rice. My only little ding is with the service. We told them we were staying at a hotel and asked them to provide utensils, plates etc. - the first night they packed the food poorly and things spilled. The second night they gave plates but forgot utensils. But the food more than makes up for it so we will be back.

Came here on a Friday for lunch! The interior is cozy and intimate, with ample seating. Our server was very kind and patient with us as we were a larger group, and checked up on us frequently. It's honestly been a long time since I've been here - I would go often as a kid, and the Pad Thai was such a staple! I had to get it again for old time's sake, and did not disappoint - honestly, I haven't found a place that aces the Pad Thai like they do. The noodles are immaculately flavorful and the sides are super filling. It's a huge portion if you can't tell from the picture. We also had a delicious soup to start!

looks good but when you zoom in you can see that all of the noodles are shredded to bits.

After a long day test driving, negotiating and purchasing a new car I stopped by Panya for some thai food. I ordered shrimp with noodles and basil and a to go order to take home for my husband The interior was nice and clean and the service was amazing and the food came out very quickly. After that everything went downhill. I love lunches at Thai restaurants because you get so many flavors including coconut soup, salad, wontons and mini egg rolls. Those items ended up being the only edible part of my lunch. The thick noodles on my plate were shredded up and indistinguishable from the cabbage visually and there was a foul flavor that tasted like a mix of liquid smoke, diesel, and farts. I took 4 bites and could not injest any more of it and the flavor lingered in my mouth for hours. I am glad that I did get sick.

I still have yet to find a consistently good Thai place in the area. That is prob one thing I miss about living in LA -- the ability to get authentic, amazing Thai food at all hours. Panya has good portions and their spice levels are pretty on point ( a 3 or 4 is enough for me and I wouldn't go past that!). Things I like: the red curry, the pad Thai, any of their duck dishes, drunken noodles. Things that are just okay: the pineapple fried rice (kinda oily and not friend enough) and the other curries all kinda blend together in flavor only the veggies differentiate them. In terms of pricing, you can easily spend $75 on 3 dishes and drinks for dinner. This is on the higher end of Thai food, but there is cool A/C, a semi-open kitchen and clean restrooms. They also have vegetarian options and mock duck. Panya shines with their great lunch specials. Service is good even when they are super slammed with lunch orders. Another good Thai spot is Darunee, but it is more of a take out spot and service is ehhhh. I usually pick Panya when I have a craving because it is more convenient. NONE of the other Thai spots in the area are worth visiting (you're welcome!).

Finally got a chance to check out Panya Thai Kitchen in Escondido, and it didn't disappoint! Excellent selection of lunch specials, which include soup, salad, steamed rice, fried spring rolls, and fried wontons! I had the eggplant with tofu, and dad got the spicy drunken noodles. We both got an 8/10 spice level, but neither of our dishes were very spicy. Still delicious! We also got a Thai tea with boba and a Thai coffee with boba. Great service, sweet ambiance. I look forward to returning to try more of their dishes!

Pad Thai chicken Spicy Noodles beef Panang Curry with roast duck Spicy duck Spring rolls

We ordered the following: Pad Thai with chicken Spicy noodles with beef Panang curry roast duck Spicy duck Spring rolls The biggest disappointment was being able to taste lighter fluid in the beef. That is completely unacceptable. Will be throwing this dish in the trash. The chicken also had significantly more fat than what we're used to when dining at authentic Thai restaurants. Additionally, the dishes were extremely oily. When I plated my food, everything had an unnatural shine. The curry was the only thing that wasn't that bad. Thai food is typically light and balanced, but this felt heavy and more like Americanized Chinese food. Unfortunately, we will not be ordering from here again. If you like this style of food, don't let this review deter you except the lighter fluid beef. Update: After not feeling well last night, we decided to throw everything out the next morning. We wasted $143 on this place. The money was not worth our health. What was disappointing is that my husband said this place was packed when he picked up the food. People get so accustomed to poisoning themselves that they don't realize it until the damage is done.

L - Eggplant dish served with rice and complimentary mini side dishes (soup, salad, egg rolls, wontons)

Ordered a dish with eggplants in it. I didn't get the chance to see the name of it. I just know that Thai eggplant meals tend to be delicious and Panya Thai Kitchen did not disappoint! It was flavorfully astounding and it came with a bunch of complimentary side dishes including Tom yum soup, salad, 2 mini eggrolls, and 2 fried wontons. All delicious! I loved the authentic cultural Thai decor. Food was served in a thoughtfully presentable way. Service was excellent--our waitress was so warm and accomodating. Would definitely return and highly recommend!

    Hair in my soup

Hair in my tom yum soup, Super expensive food and not even taste good Small soup with only veggies for $14 Stir fry noodle plate for $24 Simple Small steam rice for $4 Ridiculous, and no utensils whatsoever come with my togo order, not even a napkin, so cheap.

Which is the best curry for a first timer?

I think Penang as long as you can handle peanuts. It doesn't taste like peanuts but will contain it.

I wanted to eat there, but they packed my entrees in a to-go container. Not sure if that is very environmentally conscious. The water is still great! No obvious tap taste! The neutral gendered bathroom is clean. There's always a drain fly though. The hand soap was watered down. I didn't like that. There's usually no customers when I go. I really hope their other locations are doing well.

Customer service was great as the employee made me feel welcome while taking my order. The dining room is simply decorated but still done professionally unlike some other restaurants in the area. Music wasn't too loud and lighting isn't too bright or too dim. I ordered pineapple curry with chicken, and proceeded to devour it. The curry had decent kick but was also rich in flavor. Rice was nice and fluffy despite being late in the evening right before closing. Next time I visit, I will definitely try out the Lao cuisine as I haven't tried it before. I didn't order a drink this visit but I intend to next time just to see how their Thai tea or boba is. I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the area. Parking is free and easy enough, but the donut shop in front of the restaurant has a flickering light which may irritate some people's eyes. Thai food is almost everywhere in San Diego now but not every shop has fantastic flavor. This place is worth revisiting though.
