We came here for lunch on Mother's day. It was not packed but they had steady clientele in and out. It was my first time, but my group had a veteran diner here (who had been here several times), so we were excited. The "Fusion" part of the dishes really works here--you get some Korean inspired tastes like the Bulgogi rice bowl (see photos), but then you end up getting the Chinese tastes like the Wok Blistered Chinese Broccoli--both were excellent. My favorite dish of all was the Double Fried Chicken wings (Dry spiced) which were piping hot out of the fryer and amazingly flavored. My mouth is watering thinking about it as I write this review. Definitely a can't-miss dish if you're a first timer. This place is also nice and informal--you enter and walk right up to the register where you place your order and then the food is brought out to you. I truly think Chiko makes the best brussel sprouts I have ever had. Even just opening the takeaway container to see the brussel sprouts was a feast for the eyes. The Gochujang aioli, roasted seaweed, and scallion go well together in this stir fry of brussel sprouts. Not too spicy, not too salty... it's creamy... Just one good savory starter. The only thing I regret is not ordering two orders because I really wanted this starter item for myself. I also regret not ordering more of the "Cado salad". I thought that the citrus soy dressing would not go well with avocado because I do not like oranges. But the dressing was so light that the dish did not taste like a glass of orange juice like I thought it would. The avocado was soft and fresh. The radishes added a light bite to this salad. This dish went really well with the brussel sprouts...or as an accompaniment to any oily dish because of how light the salad is. Wok Blistered Chinese broccoli: left all the crunch without overcooking the broccoli to flimsy stems. Smashed Salmon: I did not think salmon could get any juicier until having it served Chiko style. The black bean butter adds a earthy flavor that makes the salmon melt in one's mouth even faster. Shrimp Stir Fry: the chili oil on top of rice porridge reminds me of some childhood breakfasts. Soy-glazed Lotus root: This is tasty, but not alone. I recommend to eat it with one of their fried rice dishes. Alone, the lotus root is overly sweet. I cannot wait to try more of their menu. Namely, the Impossible dumplings. I don't know how I missed that from the menu whenever we ordered takeaway from Chiko. read more

My friend and I had reservations at the counter, which I highly recommend doing. We ate our way through the menu while watching the the staff cook in their open kitchen. The line was out the door when we arrived, so we figured that this place must be really good, since it is a fairly new restaurant. I ordered the Roobios yuzu flavored iced tea and my friend decided to try the Sac Sac grape juice- both drinks came in a can, but they brought out a glass with a slice of lime for mine. It was so refreshing and she liked mine more than hers LOL. Shortly afterwards, we were given some ban chan on top of an octopus statue! It was a pretty neat way to present these side dishes. We were given napa cabbage kimchi, Sichuan spicy cucumbers, tumeric pickled daikon, potato and egg salad, chili marinated little neck clams, and a crispy chicken spring roll cut in half. Everything was really good so far. The sides were more like appetizers to me! Then we were given our next course in little metals bowls for each of us. The items we tried were the marinated beef tri tip skewer, half- a- cado salad, XO garlic shrimp stir fry, a pork and kimchi potsticker, and the cumin lamb stir fry, and some kind of noodle dish with an egg on top. Each item was delightful and extremely flavorful. We were both getting full, and I was suprised more entrees were coming! These included Waghshal's chopped brisket, rib eye and rice cakes, a dry spiced Korean fried chicken wing, orange-ish chicken, and brisket and rice cakes. This was way too much food in one sitting! I tried a little bit of everything in this round and loved how they combined Chinese and Korean food in a way that was enjoyable and unique. For dessert, we had sesame custard. This was very light and delectable. I saw them torching a dragonfruit, which I would never think of doing. All the flavors and textures in this dessert was amazing. Came here based on other Yelp reviews and I also love Korean chicken that I am used to eating in Seoul that being said I ordered the orange ish chicken and the Half a cado salad but he were excellent and perfect for sharing. The chicken was spot on crunchy and moist boiled high served with dipping sauce. The salad was the perfect pairing with jicama/lotus root/ cucumber radishes fresh and crispy with a chili oil based sauce. The portion are very generous and love that you can eat outside patio or inside in the super hip place that brings on the vibe of Encinitas. Greeted by the friendly staff and an immense menu with what looked like a really cool fusion of Chinese and Korean dishes (thus the name ChiKo). I had previously seen recommendations for the "Orangish Chicken" so that was an absolute must, but the Lamb Dumplings and Pork Fried Rice stood out! Korean, like many Asian dishes are meant to be ordered and shared, so we did just that! First came the Lamb Dumplings... and when I tell you these were tender... wow! The sauce was sweet, savory and spicy. I actually ended up dipping my orangish chicken in the sauce it was so good. Next the fried rice and orangish chicken came out. A pile of peppers, oranges, onions. Was honestly the highlight of the meal. Chicken was actually *crunch*-y crispy, juicy on the inside and paired well with the sweeter orange sauce or the lamb dumpling sauce. Sauces make a dish, and these were A+. It does look like ChiKo is constantly experimenting with appetizers and adjusting popular dishes, so don't expect everything I ordered and pictured to be available. What a cool new spot! North county doesn't really have too many good Asian restaurants. CHIKO has changed that. The location has changed hands several times over the years. I hope it's not a bad omen of what lies ahead. Once you walk in, you're greeted with a friendly face who asks if this is your first visit. If so, they'll guide you through the process of ordering then having a seat while the guys on the line prepare their magic! The ambiance is cool and hip with music playing throughout the restaurant. Not sure if it changes based on the mood, but a little alternative never hurts anyone. I ordered the spicy soy chicken wings as an appetizer and the soy glazed chopped brisket bowl. After finding a table, it wasn't too long before the chicken wings came out. There were four wings along with a couple towelettes. The wings were cooked to perfection. The outside was sticky and crunchy while the inside was moist and tender. The flavor is ridiculous! Sweet with a spicy finish. Not overbearing, but just a good amount of heat. The soy glazed brisket bowl was served with a 6 minute boiled and seasoned egg, butter, furikake and other goodies. . So many flavors and the chopped brisket was in nice sized chunks of heaven! The server suggested slicing the egg and mixing it immediately with the other ingredients. What a tasty treat! My only concern with the visit was that soon after the wings came out, the brisket bowl soon followed. So I had some nice toasty, sticky and crunchy wings, but they were soon joined by the rice bowl. I would have loved to finish with the wings, and then devoured the brisket bowl. However, since it was suggested to mix the bowl immediately, I wasn't able to thoroughly enjoy the wings. My fingers were coated with the wing sauces. I had to wipe off the sticky/ gooey fingers by licking, using the single napkin the staff provided or the towelettes. Quite the task when one is hungry. I did not realize the chicken already came with a side of rice. Two team members politely told me that it already comes with rice (this is after I already ordered on my phone) and they will gladly add another side for me, they suggested the sichuan cucumbers. Now obviously I already paid for the side of rice not realizing it already comes with rice, but the way they were very nice and polite. We came by Friday night for dinner. Was excited to have a new restaurant pop up in North County. Very easy to find and it's across from Handel's, yum! SERVICE - We were in line and an employee walked up and asked if we had been there before. We said no so she gave us menus and explained that we order first and sit anywhere. FOOD Korean Fried Wings - We really wanted to love these but unfortunately, they fell short. For fried chicken wings, they were not very crispy. They were actually pretty soggy so that was a bit disappointing. As for the flavors, my husband enjoyed the dry-spiced and I preferred the spicy soy glazed. If they were actually crunchy, I think we would have enjoyed them more. For now, we will make the drive down to Convoy for our Korean fried chicken fix. Wagshal's Brisket - The flavors in this were unique. I would say a more Americanized Asian fusion. Brisket pieces were thick and tender but overly salty. The egg was nice and soft though with a tasty flavor. The buttery furikake rice was different and enjoyable. They are known for their Asian style fried chicken. There's parking out front and the building is long and wide. When you first enter, the friendly service staff greeted us. You place your order first before you take a seat. We ordered chicken wings, orange-ish chicken, fried rice, beef and rice noodles, kimchi, and sliced cucumbers. All of them were very tasty and we enjoyed it. You can see them cooking it all fresh on the wok, and the dishes came out quickly. There were three of us dining and we ordered enough for the three of us to eat, the final bill was around $80, which is pricier than I am used to paying for Chinese food and Korean food.
