Not sure how many of these old fashioned Chinese restaurants are still in business these days but…read morethis place brings back memories... The place is small and furniture is a bit old. They take orders on paper and the bill also came on paper. Now, here's something that really brings back memories -- they way they make their Hainan Chicken -- most places make them with boneless meats (dark or white), which is easy to consume, of course; but this place make them with bones. I recall this was how Hainan chicken was made decades ago when I visited the Chinatown in Singapore. On that trip I learned that Man-Chan is an old city in the Hainan Province in China; and "Man Chan Chicken" is the origin of the worldly popular Hainan Chicken today. So, if you want some old fashion and AUTHENTIC Hainan Chicken, at an old fashion prices, this is the place!!

The food is a mix of Cantonese Hong Kong Cafe style and Hainan. It came out quickly but was very disappointing. The Hainan chicken was tasty but mostly bone, barely any meat. The rice was ok. The french style filet mignon was good but the rice was literally ketchup rice with a little egg, pretty flavorless. And the meat was ok but way to much onion. The coconut "cake" was basic coconut jelly inside a hollowed coconut. Overall this was an extremely overpriced and disappointing meal. Would not return.

We tried the pork fillet katsu curry and chicken cutlet nanban, and both were yummy! I personally…read morepreferred the chicken cutlet nanban--the combination of the crispy cutlet and tartar sauce was amazing!!! I also loved the sides that came with it, including the salad, miso soup, and pickled vegetables. The pork katsu was tasty as well, although I wish I had chosen a different cut of meat. The curry had a little bit of a kick rather than being on the sweeter side, which I enjoyed. Overall, I'd recommend this spot if you're in the area and craving a solid Japanese-style katsu!

The resultant had nice wooden minimalistic interior. The menu had lots of appetizers, curry, udon and katsu options. We started with the takoyaki, fried squid leg and fried oysters. First two were really good, but oyster one was mushy and soft inside, not what I was expecting. For entree we had the chicken katsu set with extra curry and sauce on the side. The curry, rice, chicken, miso soup and all side ingredients were tasty. Especially the curry, we loved it. The service was good and friendly. Before they closed the kitchen, they went around and asked each table if the guests wanted anything to order. As the closing time approached, they still didn't rush anyone. Our dishes also came out in short intervals, all within 10 minutes. Overall an excellent place to enjoy super delicious Japanese curry and rice.

This is the closest thing to SG Hainan Chicken Rice. Savoy Kitchen's Hainan chicken rice is…read moreseriously 100/10! The chicken is already so good, but their spicy sauce is what keeps me coming back. I've tried Hainan chicken rice at other places, and honestly, no one does that spicy sauce quite like Savoy Kitchen. I could come back just for the sauce! Their menu has other dishes worth trying too, like the creamy mushroom pasta and mushroom pizza, but the chicken rice is definitely the star for me. Parking is mostly street parking in the neighborhood, but it's really not hard to find a spot. They also have a parking lot across the street, so parking isn't a problem at all.

I haven't had the chance to try their other dishes though. Therefor, I will concede on yelp with a 4/5 since it may be preferable for those that like a traditional singaporean hainan chicken. They provide three sauces for variety: dark soy, ginger oil, and ginger-garlic-chili sauce. They're all pretty tame in taste and the chicken itself is cooked nicely. The ratio of skin to meat isn't too much or too little. Inside the restaurant is cozy, and reminds me of the restaurant tycoon mobile games. It's adorable really.
