Was so surprised at how cute and peaceful their little garden was. I loved my Ube frostie and the hubby thoroughly enjoyed his cookies n' cream frostie. Plenty of parking spaces in the lot. My friend told me that a new drink spot had opened up in the Alhambra area and I was intrigued. After doing some research, I found that by day, they primarily serve pho and Vietnamese food (Pho Ever) and during the evening on select nights, they serve specialized drinks and Vietnamese finger foods (N' Beyond). Put that together and you get Pho Ever N' Beyond! So cute. Anyway, this location is a bit obscure. It's located right off the 10 Freeway by Garfield and Hellman next to Circle K. There's a small parking lot as well as street parking. Hours are still changing, so definitely check Yelp or call the restaurant to see if they're open. As of now, they're open Friday - Sunday from 7:30 - 11:30 PM. The first time I came, my friend and I didn't really know what to expect. The pho restaurant was closing and the workers seemed to be in the process of cleaning up the restaurant. Luckily they have a very cute outdoor patio (perfect for a date!) with tons of flowers and greenery. We ordered at the cashier and our drinks and food were brought out to us. I asked for recommendations and went with the Mango Macchiato ($7). Kind of regretted the decision, only because I'm not a big smoothie fan and this drink was pretty much like a blended smoothie/shake. There was sea salt cream and mango jelly - really tasted premium with loads of mango flavor. I personally just thought it was a little sweet. My parents loved it though and devoured the drink once I brought it home. My friend ordered the Black Goji Berry Tea with Lychee ($7) - one of the most pretty drinks! I didn't try it, but she really enjoyed it. Said she could taste the lychee and the goji berry. We also ordered the banh mi brisket ($6) and chicken egg roll ($6). I was surprised that the banh mi was an actual whole sandwich. Packed with ingredients and I really enjoyed the flavor of the brisket. As for the egg roll, crispy and tasty - we ate everything. So I had to return to get a drink that I would enjoy. I ended up trying the Citrus Sunrise ($7) - this came with orange juice, jasmine osmanthus tea, honey citron jam, and some rosemary. I think there was also some jelly bits as well. Really refreshing and light, perfect for a hot day. P.L.O ($7) - peach, lemongrass, orange, lemonade, and jelly. My sister requested for the drink to be sweeter because she was worried that the lemongrass would overpower the taste, but surprisingly the lemongrass was really subtle. The drink was actually a bit on the fragrant/light side, almost as if it was missing a little acid or citrus to blend it all together. I liked the addition of the chia seeds, but I definitely preferred the Citrus Sunrise. And we also were able to try the Ube Frostie ($7). Seriously, the tea places that make ube blended drinks can't compare because the ube here tasted so fresh and decadent, along with the blended components of the drink. Felt almost like an elevated ube milkshake but the word milkshake doesn't do this drink justice at all. Not too sweet - my parents thought this was the best drink out of the three. They currently have a grand opening promotion if you're able to snag a card for BOGO 50% off; they also have a Yelp promotion of 20% off if you order a minimum of $15. The workers who helped me were all super nice and helpful. I definitely am going to return to try as many drinks as I can. Feel reluctant to share this spot, but at the same time, I really hope they do well. They really put a ton of effort into not just the taste, but also the presentation. Will be back!

Steelhead tartar - Just ok, a tartar paste on a big thin cracker. Difficult to share. Pork Jowl - Did not like the sauce. The meat was kinda like a chasiu but just not very good. Easy to share. Chicken wings - This is the only thing that was well portioned as they give you 5 whole wings, but they are plain. The wings from Baccali are so much better. Grilled fish collar - Not bad but the mint didn't really go that well with it. Dan dan campanelle - Disappointing. Not good dandan flavor and it's a small bowl. Hainan Fish - WAY overpriced and it's just whatever. Why ruin something so simple and good? Duck drumstick on taro - WAY overpriced. One drumstick on a bed of taro mash with taro fries. It's cool the food is locally sourced and blah blah blah but it's hard to appreciate when it is not good. The price is 3x more than a real Chinese restaurant where you can get more skillfully cooked food, so value-wise it's quite poor and the reason for my low rating. Less then 10 minutes away you have access to some of the greatest Chinese food in America so why would you come here? Also the small restaurant is insanely loud and made for a poor atmosphere. Service was good.

Practically every table will have an order. Yeah, soft chicken - even the white meat, rice with a strong chicken flavor you didn't know existed, and excellent ginger sauce that surprisingly hasn't gone viral yet. Boneless chicken, by the way, so non-Canto friendly, and you saw that with the mosaic of people coming in to pick up an order. Me too, planning to pick up 2 orders before making my way Irvine, driving fast, faces pass, and I'm southbound. Jiving like Terry Crews. OK, maybe not "driving fast". This is LA, after all. But then the daily special menu caught my eye. It's Thursday. Chicken ala King, the chicken Al Fredo of Hong Kong, the one white sauce Western dish that HongKongers think of. It's fine. You have a job, and you're not here as often as you wish. Trigger pulled. And you're not the thermopile that you think you are anymore. Trigger pulled on the large chrysanthemum tea. And boy, do I NOT regret that decision. The flavors were on point, just like how it used to be in HK! The richness of the butter worked well with the flavor of the chicken. I don't feel as bad as enjoying the butter and cheeese combo that is Al Fredo but that's probably a bias I have. (The easiest place to get this in HK is actually KFC... But the execution is also pepper heavy there is no taste semblance to the original dish...) The tea is floral, sweet with a slight bitter aftertaste from being a little over brewed if your standard is Vita, but absolutely perfect for the heatwave. Service was great too. The boss lady smiled but was also very sharp. Got the tea immediately, no fuss about the ice, no hesitation and ready to switch when I asked if the adjacent container is milk tea. It's not. It's THEIR cappuchino. By the way, if you noticed the 3 veggie paintings on their wall, here's the irony... I'm pretty sure there's no leeks, carrots, or garlic used in making chicken rice. The yellow of the walls work well though, working in step with the sunset hues, and a far cry from the no-frills hospitial-wite walls of so many other Cantonese mom-n-pops. And sadly, no one comes close in the Bay Area, not even the 2 new shops in Millbrae dare I say. Parking isn't an issue. Valley Blvd is a busy street, but the side streets are residential. Try not to be on the other side of Valley though. Valley with its traffic is a pain in the rear to cross. Even if you're not a chicken. N if u gonn' say jo mama make it betta', lemme ask, jo mama make dat rice too? Sorry for Game-of-Throning in the beginning, but TBH it's not like this ESTABLISHMENT needs this review. This legend is a shop. LA is awesome though.

But…read morehaving grown up eating Hainanese Chicken Rice and trying versions of it across East Asia, I have very high standards for it. So I came away thinking the chicken rice here was simply okay - not bad, but not particularly memorable either. The chicken itself was decent, but mine came out slightly overcooked. As a result, it lost some of the tenderness and velvety texture that defines truly great Hainanese chicken. The dryness also muted some of the natural flavor that should come through in the poached chicken. The rice was probably the biggest disappointment for me. Great Hainanese chicken rice should have a rich aroma from chicken stock, garlic, ginger, and rendered fat, with each grain distinct and flavorful on its own. Here, the rice felt a bit clumpy and lacked the deep, savory fragrance and chicken essence that elevate the dish. As for the condiments, they were adequate but unremarkable. The soy sauce and ginger sauce did their job of complementing the chicken, but neither stood out. The chili sauce had some heat and acidity. Still, it lacked the brightness and complexity that can really tie the entire plate together. Overall, nothing about the meal was bad. In fact, I can see why it satisfies many people looking for comforting chicken rice. But for me, the chicken, rice, and sauces never fully came together into a cohesive, standout dish. It's competent Hainanese Chicken Rice - just missing the extra depth, balance, and refinement that make the best versions truly special.
