It was swai, a Chinese, farm raised fish that is definitely inferior to American channel catfish, but is raised under environmentally damaging conditions. It was rank. But don't be deceived. Chicken N More is recognized for its legit Southern fried chicken, moist and meaty pork spare ribs, and farm-raised catfish. Southern hospitality is a common theme for restaurants whose main claim to fame is serving Southern food in a non-Southern state. And I think Chicken N More does a great job at that. I ordered a combo: three-piece fried chicken (breast, leg, and wing), mashed potatoes, and macaroni (all for $14.39). Holy smokes, the chicken was bomb dot com! It was made fresh. Crispy. Juicy. Just the right amount of breading. Perfectly cooked down to its core. Tasty. Not too salty. It was perfect. I could see why this hole-in-the-wall restaurant keeps getting rave reviews. Chicken N More takes pride in its super relaxed, no-rush atmosphere. This place is NOT for you if you're in a hurry. Walls are adorned with license plates from different states. A little dim. With regret, I must update my 5 star review and give Chicken & More what this visit deserved, 2 stars. My previous visit was a positive 5+ star experience only 3 months ago and since that visit I referred a friend and also a good customer. Neither of them responded when I inquired about their experience and now I understand why. This also explains why the restaurant was vacant tonight during the dinner hour. (see picture) In the food business you don't live on a reputation for very long. Tonight, I ordered a 2 piece white meat chicken dinner, which included 2 sides. I chose the baked beans and red beans and rice. ($15.00 including tip with a can of diet coke) When the paper plate arrived, the paltry & scrawny wing was wimpy and mostly hidden in its presentation by a tiny, stale dinner roll, overcooked to the point that it virtually contained crunchy skin and no meat! The large plump breast next to it looked delicious however with its crispy brown skin. I bit into this generous piping hot flavorful serving; the surface bite was juicy, crispy and tasty however, this was a very large piece of chicken and the deeper I ate into the piece, the rawer and chewier the meat became! YUCK! Strike 1! To add insult to injury the red beans and rice was a tiny 2 ounce condiment portion cup that should have been called a sample taste and in my experience definitely not qualify as a "side" item. Strike 2! The cold baked beans tasted like Bush baked beans straight from the can and no longer included the morsels of brisket I remembered enjoying in past visits. Strike 3! Raw chicken is not what I had anticipated or paid for and now you can consider me extremely disappointed as I have looked forward to this return visit to eat good yardbird for at least a month. I trashed the balance of raw meat and returned to my hotel room dejected, still hungry and disappointed that we lost a good one here. Chicken & More is DEAD and I will be extremely cautious in the future to make referrals to friends. Needless to say, I won't be returning. With this 2 star updated review I have wiped out my past Yelp 5 star praise and will not be returning. I am unsure what is going on behind the counter here and it does not result in a good dining experience for customers that expect the quality that a 4.5 Yelp star status represents! While dining here I overheard the counter help turn away a 20 piece chicken order because they told her it would be an hour wait............ ???? It appears the bad staff needs to be rectified! I am so sorry to have referred this store to friends as they were obviously disenchanted with their dining like my own experience this visit and now they question my judgement for what I consider good food. When I got back to my hotel and finally ate (30 mins later) I was surprised to find the chicken still crispy. The ribs were okay...nothing to write home about; just your basic oven cooked ribs. But the sauce was delicious with a touch of heat. Sides were on the small side IMO, but for the price tag I cannot complain. All in all this is a good place to grab some food. What a lovely place for a delicious bite to eat! My girlfriends and I were told to try Chicken N More so we stopped by for a meal at the end of our work conference. I had the most crispiest, crunchiest catfish I have ever had! The fish itself was soft and fluffy and well seasoned enough to not even need any sauce or condiments! Beans & rice are AMAZING. Fried catfish has a hearty crunchy cornbread batter (yum). Green beans have a nice smoke to them, and not salty so you can season to your liking if you want. Let's start with the excellent: The BBQ here is WAY better than at Longhorn. These are the only two places I've got BBQ in Spokane, but Chicken-N-More is vastly superior. (actually the pulled pork sandwich at Hill's Restaurant is pretty excellent, but it's hardly a "BBQ place") The fried chicken is very good. Although really, IMHO (in my humble opinion if you're over 30) this is a hard entree to eff up. I don't eat fried chicken very often, but this was a textbook example of it. So I came here recently, and I'd have to give it a 9/10. Since Yelp doesn't allow for half stars I'm just rounding up! I got a 3 piece order of chicken strips, 1 rib, and a chicken leg. All of those were fantastic. The only issue I had was with the jo jos that came with the chicken strips. They weren't very good. Don't think they did anything wrong, just wasn't a fan of them personally. When I come back I'd probably get a 4 piece order of a the white chicken meat with no sides because I liked the chicken leg better than the rib or the chicken strips. The guy working (Maybe the owner?) was really nice too which is always a positive.
