I moved away from Spokane to the east coast in 2018 but I still dream of aloha island grill every day. They only have one single hawaiian bbq place in the DMV(and it recently opened) called l&l hawaiian. It doesn't even come close to comparing. The only other 'hawaiian' spots are just poke bowl places that don't count. I wish this place would get big enough to spread throughout the country because it would be very popular here! The kahlua pork and teriyaki chicken were the best and I tend to be picky about fatty weird pieces in meat. What really made this place special was the big portions for a lower cost, the fact the food was made in a tiny little drive thru hut in a parking lot, and they have the BEST options for sides. Sides usually are a hit or miss with me but the hawaiian peas and mac salad was always amazing. Whenever I see that one of my friends is stopping by Spokane I always recommend it. This used to be a great place to eat. No more. Rice must have been made yesterday as it was hard from being old. They then used that rice to make the spam musubi and used on one other spam small plate. It was just gross. Mac salad recipe has also changed and had more runny mayo than pasta. Went to the Aloha Grill on Francis tonight. I ordered the Mac Salad to be "on the side". Not as a side because my son is allergic. Like it can't be in the same container. When we pulled up it was all in one. I asked her if we could put it into a separate box. the young lady at the window told me there's nothing she can do to put it on the side. I got the confusion but then she became really rude to me and shut the window on me. I didn't ask for a "side of Mac salad", I asked for it "on the side" somebody needs to educate the servers. And for $20, we literally had one tiny little thing of chicken and the rest was rice and macaroni. Completely disappointed. When we picked it up, the one pan was almost FOUR TIMES THE ORIGINAL COST. Why on earth did they recommend that we change our order to make it "cheaper"? I went last night and I can still say this is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. FOOD - I get the regular plate with chicken teriyaki & Mac salad. YUM. This is the most tender, delicious chicken. Some of my rice was slightly mooshy, but I think it's just from sitting in the sauce & I may have gotten the end of the batch, it was still delicious. My fiancé got the Katsu chicken w/Mac salad which he said was yummy too. Also highly recommend the lava sauce. AMBIENCE / STAFF- look people, this is not fine dining haha. It's a grab and go, small, hole in the wall spot. Don't expect a 5 star experience haha. The staff was honestly a little rude on the phone, but when we got there they were both really nice and had our order ready right away. PRICE- my biggest qualm is the price. Aloha Island grill is my favorite place to spoil myself with. Their food is absolutely delicious, and while the prices are a bit steep, I personally think it's worth it. My favorite is the teriyaki chicken, with white rice, macaroni salad, and extra of their (delicious) teriyaki sauce. Service is very friendly whenever I go. This place used to be a favorite, but has become such a let down. The quality has been dropping significantly. We got the 5 piece spam musubi, big plate with katsu chicken and big plate with teriyaki chicken. No sauces were given to us, and when I asked for sauce they made a stink out of it. They only give 2 sauce per big plate now, when before I've gotten like 10 for this same order. When I asked for sauce they only gave me 2 teriyaki and 2 katsu, which is not as many as I should have received even by their new standards. The 3 guys working seemed totally inept, were unorganized and unclean, and made this a terrible experience. The pea salad had almost no sauce to it thus little flavor, and the mac salad had way too much mayo. The katsu chicken was dry and over cooked, tough like a brick. At least the spam musubi was good.
