I moved away from Spokane to the east coast in 2018 but I still dream of aloha island grill every day. They only have one single hawaiian bbq place in the DMV(and it recently opened) called l&l hawaiian. It doesn't even come close to comparing. The only other 'hawaiian' spots are just poke bowl places that don't count. I wish this place would get big enough to spread throughout the country because it would be very popular here! The kahlua pork and teriyaki chicken were the best and I tend to be picky about fatty weird pieces in meat. What really made this place special was the big portions for a lower cost, the fact the food was made in a tiny little drive thru hut in a parking lot, and they have the BEST options for sides. Sides usually are a hit or miss with me but the hawaiian peas and mac salad was always amazing. Whenever I see that one of my friends is stopping by Spokane I always recommend it. Went to the Aloha Grill on Francis tonight. I ordered the Mac Salad to be "on the side". Not as a side because my son is allergic. Like it can't be in the same container. When we pulled up it was all in one. I asked her if we could put it into a separate box. the young lady at the window told me there's nothing she can do to put it on the side. I got the confusion but then she became really rude to me and shut the window on me. I didn't ask for a "side of Mac salad", I asked for it "on the side" somebody needs to educate the servers. And for $20, we literally had one tiny little thing of chicken and the rest was rice and macaroni. Completely disappointed. Food is fine, I like the convince and how fast the food is ready. Not the best teriyaki I've had but totally not the worst. I personally enjoy the char on some of the chicken, it's not too overwhelming and gives it a smokey flavor. The white rice was a bit mushy like it was cooked with too much water. Mac salad was fine but the potato bits were kinda frozen. It's okay for a togo quick bite that isn't exactly fast food. Eeewww. The place was filthy. I don't know how long it had been since they cleaned their grill. I could taste it in the food. We ordered one beef and one teriyaki bowl. It came in an 8oz cardboard soup container. After we payed, we were told it would be 8-10 mins for beef. We waited outside because of the strange odor emanating from the establishment. When I got it home, it was dry and overcooked or mixed with burnt remnants from the grill. Overpriced and gross. $23+ for 16 oz of food that was majority rice. Won't be returning!! We had the #2 Small Teriyaki Chicken Plate Lunch with Hawaiian Macaroni Salad. So delicious. Add a little lava sauce and you won't regret it! So good. When we picked it up, the one pan was almost FOUR TIMES THE ORIGINAL COST. Why on earth did they recommend that we change our order to make it "cheaper"? I went last night and I can still say this is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. FOOD - I get the regular plate with chicken teriyaki & Mac salad. YUM. This is the most tender, delicious chicken. I was so excited to eat some familiar dishes from back home but it wasn't even close to local Hawaii food! Rice was mushy and watery, premade patties for the loco moco, high prices and little meat.. I wanted to love this place, heard great things, but I have tried it a couple times now and it's ok for my taste buds. If I'm in the area and want an island fix, I would stop. I'm just driving out of my way to go there.
