Another master class by Jamie Aquino! I've been eyeing her Farm to Table class for a couple years…read moreand finally had the chance to attend with my dad. This class is great because you also get a trip to the Kendall Yards Farmers Market where Jamie breaks down what's in season and an ideas for how to use various ingredients. You shop along with her as she picks out the main ingredients for the class and have time to shop yourself before getting started with the actual class back at the Kitchen Engine. Her classes and dishes are vegetarian and plant-based so you leave with nutritious and delicious recipes. My only disclaimer is that this class (and really any class) will be challenging for those with mobility issues. The walking involved at the market with this class and the bar stool seating for the 3-hr class was difficult for my father, who has mobility issues. That said, he has a blast. Just a callout so you know what to expect.

Kitchen Engine I love you! I'd just arrived in Spokane and was wandering aimlessly with my man when…read morewe wandered into the old flour mill building. Lo and behold, there was one of the best kitchen gadget ships I've ever experienced combined with a cafe combined with a cooking school. This place is seriously the best of three worlds. I was able to buy some loose leaf tea for my daughter, the cortado was DELICIOUS, and they had some very specialized kitchen tools o haven't seen anywhere else (pizza scissors that double as servers!) if you're a foodie, a chef, or just someone who likes good espresso, this is the place to stop in. Plus, my honey forgot his water bottle when we ordered coffee and the baristas were so kind to have set it aside for us when we later returned. LOVE this place.

Review based on 2018 summer camps:…read more The facility is old, which is why it is both romantically charming and kinda rough around the edges. As an old estate chopped up into offices and classrooms, there's some difficulty getting around and the air conditioning situation feels a bit cobbled together. I don't mind this aspect, but if your kid absolutely does not do well in heat you may want to tour and inquire before sending them here. Staff are pretty good and range from middle-aged grissled veterans to doe-eyed teenagers full of good intentions if not practical experience. In any case, they did a good job with my kid and I wouldn't hesitate to send him back next summer. People were kind and enthusiastic. The grounds are probably the most remarkable feature IMO and a huge bonus. There's a stone castle in the back, secret paths, and secluded yawning gardens with a pond up the hill. If nothing else, I'd come back to simply walk the trails and roam the gardens. Speaking of trails, the surrounding area is... ahem... "multi-use" shall we say so just be forewarned that the more secluded and wooded it gets, the more likely you are to come across an active or abandoned hobo camp. I found a beautiful pair of high heel shoes and a single cowboy boot hunting for berries! It was... interesting... trying to explain to my kids how they may have gotten lost back there. Overall a wonderful place and the grounds are rich in both history and natural charm.

I used to love this place. We had a group that met every Saturday for many years. We brought in…read morebusiness and were respectful. We shopped there and enjoyed our time together. Then a new owner came in. She told us that everything would be great. We were excited. Once there, felt sort of unwelcome but kept going anyway. We all sat at this little copper table with chairs and they brought us food and coffee. It was the norm and we were happy to have a circle table where we could all chat. We had a new lady join that week and she was told by the new owner that she doesn't want us at that table and to pass it on. It was to be for wine drinkers only. Well, why serve us there the whole time only to tell one person, not even the organizer about it. Owner sent a man over to us and we talked to him about it and we all brought up ideas and talked back and forth and thought it was ok at the end. The following week, a new gal came and didn't feel well. She asked the owner to tell the group she had come and that she wasn't feeling well. The owner asked who the group was and she started badmouthing us to the new girl! Another woman showed up and the new gal told her what happened and they both left. The group now meets elsewhere, but it is a shame that you treated a local group after the owner moves here from Spokane and wants to fit in, like garbage after meeting there for YEARS! Not only that, this establishment now closes early and doesn't stay open for farmers markets or anything local going on. It really is a sad deal that someone can come in and ruin a business that someone else worked so hard to build.

I was so disappointed, there was literally two pieces of sliced turkey on this sandwich. I could barely taste it there was so little. It came to $17.87 with tax and didn't even include chips. My son and I were really excited to attend a class in February (Chicken Dinner class) unfortunately…read moreit was cancelled and we were asked if we wanted to transfer our tickets to the Breakfast for dinner class. After some emails with Amanda we agreed to attend that class. Two days prior to the class starting I inquired to see if we were confirmed but no response until the day prior saying that they were going to reschedule again. I sent a few emails asking if we were enrolled in the upcoming class with no response other than telling me they will send me an upcoming schedule that i never received. I took it upon myself to email the address on the website asking if I could talk with someone who could answer my questions. The reply I got was: pasted below We're sorry you seem to have had a bad experience and how we communication with our customers. Our chef has been in and out of the hospital . We are giving you a refund for your original order. While I understand the hospital bit I think it unprofessional to blame them and not take responsibility as an organization for constant reschedules and serious lack of communication with their "students" I wish NO stars were possible, and seeing the serious lack of stars in their reviews I see I am not the only one. Roughly 3-4 weeks prior to the event I reached out via email to see if I could make different arrangements because something came up and we wouldn't be able to make it. I never heard back. I tried a second time. Same thing. So, I wasted $50+ and got zero in return. That was awesome.
