I ordered a Greek salad here since I was in the area and had a very specific craving. I don't think that this place is Greek, but the salad was really good. I enjoyed how the feta melted with the grilled shrimp on top of the lettuce. The style of salad had too many big, roasted peppers and tomatoes for me, but I did enjoy it overall. The restaurant decor and ambiance make you feel like you've stepped into an authentic Mediterranean cafe instead of being in Roslyn NY. This has become a family go-to place. We have been eating there for over 25 years and the food is consistently good and the waitstaff gives the right amount of attention. Ambiance is okay- easy seating, not great decor and usually a television is on with some Turkish sporting event on. The prices are as reasonable as you will find anywhere. I ordered via Grubhub (they do their own deliveries), and while the initial estimate was 30-40 minutes, it changed to 70-80 -- and yes, it took the full 70 minutes to arrive. When the food finally got here, it was a total letdown. The chicken kebob was cold, undercooked, and completely tasteless -- just nasty, honestly. The gyro? Dried out, smelly, and off-tasting. Stopped by for a late dinner. We were one of two parties that were there and we had about 45 minutes to closing. Staff was very nice and didn't rush us at all. They even came around to refill the glasses of water after the restaurant was officially closed for the evening. We had a donor entree that came with a lemon chicken noodle soup. The soup was fine. The donor was tasty as always. We also ordered a falafel sandwich. I didn't love it but it was okay. I've had better but it hit the spot for a late dinner selection. Always loved the food & was glad to get an email offering 20% off an order using their new website. A qt of soup isn't listed in menu so I called & asked for the discount to be applied. Don't know if it was a mgr or owner but adamantly refused! Dumb move towards a returning customer for a couple of dollars! & then my daughter went to pick up, she checked the order & asked for the extra pita I requested. Food: 3.5 Service: 4.0 I went and ordered two sandwiches for takeout: chicken kebab sandwich and lamb gyro sandwich. The service was very quick with very little wait time. The drive back home was around 5 minutes and I noticed that the sandwiches were not hot at all, just at a room temperature. The chicken kebab sandwich is not worth the price you pay as they do not provide enough chicken. When I was eating it, I thought I ordered a salad sandwich at first as that was all I could taste. I was hoping for maybe two more pieces to help balance the meal. On a positive note, the chicken was cooked cooked to perfection with a nice char on the outside while also being very juicy and the salad was very fresh. It was just a poor balance of ingredients that worsened the experience. The lamb gyro sandwich was a much better experience as the lamb tasted okay, but there was a much better salad to lamb gyro ratio. If the food was heated up and prepared better I think the rating would be higher, but the room temperature sandwiches were subpar. Overall, I would order only the gyro sandwiches for a quick lunch, but this will not be a regular spot for me. read more

I used to come here weekly or more back in the late 1990's early 2000's when I was a kid. I moved so I haven't been here in probably 10 years. I drove by and saw they were open, so I had to go in and order food. The decor was similar, more technology with touch screen registers and such. The employees were so nice just like before and the table I would always sit at was in the same spot which brought back memories. Many times, we dined in and did Take-out for chicken kebab growing up. Tonight I did take out. All the food I ordered tasted just like I enjoyed it as a child. The spinach pie, chicken lemon soup, the chopped Greek salad and the gyro were fabulous. Many times growing up, Take-out orders would always have a minor thing missing or wrong. I remember my father always calling up chicken kebab saying they forgot the soda or extra dressing or something. It was never a big deal because the meals were plentiful, and the owners are incredible there and treat you like family. But today, when I got home, and looked at my order, my gyro Greek salad meal was chicken gyro and not lamb gyro. I laughed out loud because I guess things never changed (but their chicken gyro is amazing). If you want great, high quality food with a nice atmosphere and awesome customer service, come here or get take out. Though most things on the menu at Chicken Kebab are decent when it comes to taste, this place gets 4 stars for my go-to dishes and the fact that I absolutely LOVE coming here. It's one of those local spots that serves good food at good prices, has a diverse menu, and is VERY casual. Beware of the Saturday night crowd, I've seen the wait be up to an hour long. I miss you, Chicken Kebab. I recommend the spinach pizza appetizer, skip the hummus- it isn't that great. The Greek salad is amazing for some reason. It's shredded, it's crisp, it's refreshing, and if you get it with chicken gyro meat you will understand that this dish is awesome (get the medium size, you'll still end up with leftovers, it's that big). I ordered take out which was a Greek salad and falafel. When I order I asked for a little extra dressing on the salad and a little more tahini sauce on the falafel. When I got to pick it up I noticed they charnged me 3.00 extra for these extra condiments. When I approached them to pay they gave me an argument that they "weren't a billion dollar company". I said to them if I was eating at their restaurant and asked for a little extra dressing would you then charge me? They have decided what THEY think is what THEY want on their salad and falafel and basically if you can't enjoy it that way you will need to spend more to then enjoy your meal. They, a man and a women behind the counter, were very argumentative. A little act of kindness would have kept me as a customer but I will never return there. read more

If you like gyro and/or other meats on a spit, this place has plenty to offer. The purveyors here serve Turkish fare, which differs slightly from the usual Greek fare one finds but it should be familiar enough for those that frequent these kinds of places. The chicken gyro here was really good, moist and flavorful. Chicken kofta was also pretty good albeit a bit dry. Tzatziki sauce was good but a bit thin. Prices here are standard for the area and portions are pretty large. The service here was just so-so, but it's pretty busy. I will say the crowd here tend to be more of the early bird special variety but that's cool. Solid entry but the competition in this space is pretty fierce. read more

This busy, popular establishment features reliably tasty Mediterranean food with good value (large portions) and generally attentive service. The lentil soup was tasty. My food complaint is that the grilled vegetable sandwich was big on the lettuce and salad items, but very limited on the grilled vegetables and virtually tasteless with no discernible dressing. It was so sparse with vegetables that I felt compelled to ask if my order had been mistakenly been given the wrong item. As the restaurant hour was winding down with most of the tables empty, in 13 minutes no one came to us to pick up our check. I finally ended up having to go to the cash register. Oh Chicken Kebab, I do so enjoy eating here. For as long as I can remember coming here it's tasty, filling and a pleasure. Service is always attentive, food is consistently prepared well, portions are large and everything tastes good. I'm going with 3 stars because my experience with the menu is super limited, in all my years of eating here I've gotten the same meal; chicken gyro wrap and a side of baba ganoush with tahini and hot sauce on the side. They wrap the gyro on a way that creates the illusion your sandwich is the size of a picnic basket, overflowing with salad and perfectly cooked chicken. It's a real deal of a meal, probably better to tackle with a fork for the first half dozen bites. My only complaint is they don't have one in NYC so I only eat here a couple of times a year. Love this place! The food here is always fresh and everything on the menu is delicious, that is no lie! Truly authentic! My family has been coming here since I was little. Servers have been apart of this restaurant for years now and they always recognize us. Always love to start with any appetizer but my all time favorite is the spinach pie. This is the best spinach pie I have ever eaten. When I try spinach pie's at other restaurants, they all get compared to the Chicken Kebab's - it is flavorful, light and extremely flakey. Now getting to the dinner, I've always loved the chicken gyro sandwich and now have been trying the doner gyro. You can't go wrong with either, the salad they add over the meat is perfect. Just the right of dressing, lettuce, onions and tomatoes. Yum. Recently, we have also been getting the fish dishes. If you have a sweet tooth, you must try any of the desserts. They have a couple options here including baklava, kadaifi but the best is the galaktaburiko! Try saying that 3 times! It is a custard in phyllo served with a honey sweet syrup and when served warm, this is one of the best desserts around. I used to eat at Chicken Kebab on a pretty regular basis but I stopped going solely on the basis of convenience. The food always gets a 5 star rating from me. I love their chicken kebab sandwich. Whatever dressing they use on the salad is really delicious and the chicken cubes are so juicy and tender. My best friend and I visited the restaurant for a late lunch on a Sunday. She ordered the lamb kebab sandwich and I got my usual chicken kebab sandwich. Delicious as always! My friend really enjoyed her sandwich as well. The 4 stars comes from the really unspectacular service. It wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing. Also, there were two tables next to us with dirty plates that weren't cleared til we were paying our bill. I don't mean to sound like a snob but who really wants to see that?
