Decided to visit this local Greek spot because so many others in the area are just too overpriced, especially for a simple gyro. We usually online order and the food is always ready on time. My wife enjoys a simple gyro pita sandwich or chicken souvlaki sandwich. My go to is usually a chicken souvlaki platter with rice. My one standout item was the weekly special of an entire rotisserie chicken for $10. I thought it would be a small chicken but it was a huge portion enough to feed the whole family. That was impressive. I've also ordered their family trays with a variety of meat and pitas and potato's to share and the portions are super generous. We had tzatziki dips, spanakopita, zucchini fritters, two types of salads (villager was a hit) chicken skewers, beef and lamb shawarma, broccoli rice and pitas. They are about 4-5 blocks from my home After waiting for 1 & 1/4 hour I was called by their delivery person who said they couldn't find my home - after questioning him he told me he was in New Hyde Park -I have ordered from them many times and my address in WP was in their system associated with my phone number. I spoke with the owner when I called and explained the food was late and came cold -he offered to REFUND 4 $ for the cold food on a nearly 40$ order,. This almost feels like I'm writing my first review. I say that because Yummy Gyro was (basically) the initial place I picked up an order from during these new days that we're unfortunately living in. But hey, it was tasty nonetheless! A few weeks ago, when pick-ups and curbsides and deliveries started becoming all the rage (out of necessity) Yummy Gyro was the place to order from...well, actually we had an original first-choice (The Greek Place), but after countless calls with no answer and nothing on social media, we figured they had closed up shop while we live through corona-ville. Totally understandable, but due to that, Yummy Gyro was the next restaurant up and met most of our Greek/Mediterranean-ish needs. Even if the world was right and we could dine where we wanted, Yummy Gyro is a takeout first-eat there if you must kind of place. No seriously, they have like two tables (and a couple outside) so it's not like you're missing much. The place was cramped with three people inside it making social distancing that much more problematic. Luckily, when we showed up to grab our order, it was ready to roll. Paying in advance would've been nice though, but I'm not gonna nitpick. Once back home, we dove into our savory selections. My girlfriend went with a basic gyro (side salad included) that hit the spot for her. For me, I can't help but go after crazy concoctions of sandwiches. You tell me you have "Pitas of the Gods" then I shall be getting one of those (plus this isn't too far off from what The Greek Place does so it almost made up for missing out on them). I went with the Hades which consisted of lamb and beef gyro meat, tomato, onion, spicy feta, tzatziki, and fries (yes in it!) all on pita bread. Needless to say, this was delicious. Did it live up to some other godly items? Perhaps not, but it did the trick. My side salad was also acceptable as were the side of lemon potatoes we indulged in. Overall, Yummy Gyro is pretty darn...yummy (it was there, I had to do it). The food isn't out of this world, but it fills the gyro needs well. They're also not really meant to eat at so they fit nicely into this current climate of available food choices due to corona. Might I add you'll get 10% off for pick up or delivery. Not too shabby, I must say. So if you're looking for a meal to-go right now, Yummy Gyro isn't a bad option. Came across Yummy Gyro for the first time today and I was definitely blown away by the quality of food they serve. Right in the heart of nassau county, Yummy Gyro is serving one of the most yummiest Greek food I've ever had. I was in town because I had a flat tire so I went to Mavis right next door and I had an empty stomach. I ordered their Lamb Souvlaki platter which came with delicious, grilled tender, Smokey lamb kebab with their over the top tzaztzki sauce! The platter came with your choice of either French fries, salad or lemon potatoes, I would HIGHLY recommend the Lemon potatoes. Holy cow they were mind blowing! I literally got inside my car and definitely made a mess because everything was cooked perfectly and was soooo plentiful. I was not expecting this great of quality food but I definitely got my bang for my buck. Service was great! Yeah I waited 20 minutes for my food but it was definitely worth it. I was out in Long Island and visiting my friends for labor day weekend . We were deciding if we wanted to go out for lunch or just order. I came across this little place as I was going to a bagel place! I decided to have a Gyro instead, and I'm happy I did!! One gentleman was outside cleaning the front of the store. There is an area with two tables, with umbrellas, and chairs. As I walked in, another gentleman greeted me with a smile and a hello. I looked at the menu, on the wall and decided on the beef/lamb gyro. I passed up the offer of fries. A third gentleman asked if I wanted "everything " on it. Yes and thank you to....lettuce, tomatoes, onions and tzatziki sauce! He bought it to my table (three small ones in there). The Gyro was fresh, hot and absolutely delicious!! It stayed hot throughout and it was filled with a lot of meat!! I wish there was a bit more sauce on it but, I will remember to ask for a bit extra, next time. I took off one star...the plate on which it was served on, has seen better days. Don't get me wrong, the place is spotless. I believe the dish was made of melamine resin and it was cracked and looked damaged by heat. Maybe be a small thing to some but, it was something I noticed. I grew up eating gyros from Fontana's in Bayside, Queens. It's the best and hard to beat. Yummy Gyro doesn't come close to a Fontana's gyro but their gyros are still....Yummy! Great find when I don't want to schlep all the way to Queens for a gyro! The restaurant is pretty small with just a couple of tables and a counter by the window. They also have a couple of tables outside if the weather permits. So this is more of a takeout place. Their menu is HUGE!!! I never knew you could so do much with gyros and souvlakis! For my first visit, I stuck with the basic gyro sandwich ($7.49). You have the option of adding a salad and drink for an additional $2,25. I added a greek salad and a bottle of water. The gyro was a bit too salty for my taste but still delicious. LOVE LOVE LOVE their thick tzatziki sauce! And the Greek salad was fresh and tasty, although more like a plain salad with feta thrown in it (no grape leaves or hot peppers, but maybe because I only had a side salad?). A pretty satisfying meal! Service was friendly and quick! Most people called in their orders and went to pick it up themselves. I just walked in and ordered but the wait on a Friday night around 7:30 wasn't bad at all! I will definitely be back to try other menu items. I had the falafel lunch special today. Falafel wrap and green salad or fries (I got the salad). The falafel wrap (8.5/10) was well-seasoned, the falafel was pan fried into an almost patty, yogurt sauce was great and the wrap was fresh. I liked the onions in the wrap. First, let me say that the food is excellent here. Normally I would have given it a higher rating. Aside from a great selection of Greek dishes they also offer a variety of mini-pizzas that are worth trying. So what's the catch? Well, when you order from the online menu you would expect a dish to include what's pictured, plus whatever else the description says is also included. As good as the food is, I always find myself disappointed by one thing or another, unfortunately. This time, it was the babaganoush. I have included two photos, the first showing how the food was presented on the website, exactly as I selected it. It had an olive, some tomato and some cucumber, very much presented as if it was included in the dish. When I picked it up, it was just the babaganoush in a plastic container (not unexpected, as it was takeout), and it did include one pita bread. However, none of the vegetables were included. From previous experience, I knew not to let them staple the bag shut before I checked my order. When I saw what was missing, and asked why the vegetables were missing, all I got was excuses. Previously I've had a promised free delivery explained away. On another occasion, a drink that was supposed to be included was ignored until I mentioned it. Quick review. Had a hankering for a good old gyro. Ordered a pair of the beef/lamb gyro on whole wheat pita-one without tomatoes. No problem. Got there and food was ready on time. The guy at the front was quick but friendly. Picked up a baklava just because it looked good in the case. And it was sweet and flaky. The gyros were wrapped nicely and clearly labeled. The gyro was constructed very well. I say this because often you find that you eat your way to the end and there's no meat left. But no, plenty of meat throughout and all the way to the end. Classic flavors of the savory meat, fresh veg, tangy tzatziki sauce with the bright taste of the feta cheese. The only reason I kept going back there, was because the food was really good. Their would be salads missing that were supposed to come with the meal or no pitas. Then when you called them bought this mistake to their attention, they would act like they were doing you a favor. And you should be grateful. Like you were at a soup kitchen and they were feeding the homeless. Not to mention that when they had to bring missing salads or pitas or what ever they screwed up it took them 30mins or more. I was told I had a credit so just tell them next time I order and they will give me the credit off my next order. So I have to remember to tell them that I have the credit. Let's be clear, I really like the food at Yummy Gyro (I frequent the Port Washington location often) but today, we decided to get some food to go and it was a massive massive CLUSTERF%^&. The food here is really good and affordable. The platters and sandwiches are great. Their hummus and babaganoush are excellent. This location however, is strictly take out as the restaurant only has 2 tables. We ordered on the Yelp app and we were told to pick it up in 45 minutes (a bit long for gyro but whatever). When I arrived about 40 minutes after placing the order, I knew we made a mistake by ordering here. The restaurant was packed with people, all waiting for pickup. It got to the point that we were all on top of the 2 poor ladies eating in the corner. When I got there, I noticed my order up on the screen but the guy at the counter looked bewildered when I told him I was picking up and then just told me "Yes, your order is being made right now". I figured, ok I'm a few minutes early, let's hang out. One by one, I could tell that all the patrons waiting probably ordered earlier or around the same time as me. To their credit, the patrons all were really patient but one guy waited about 45 minutes for a single gyro sandwich to go (bless that guy, he was really hungry and had the best attitude). About 20 minutes into waiting (and about an hour after I placed the order online) I got a call from Eat24/Yelp who asked me if I was having issues with my order. I was surprised to hear from them and I told them that I was at the restaurant, that they said they had my order, and that I was just waiting around to go. The girl on the phone said that she had been trying to call the restaurant multiple times but could not get anyone to pick up the phone. She asked me to call her back if I had further issues. Again not inspiring the greatest confidence. It became clear to me that there was no system to process orders. Some people walked in and got their food before those that had called or ordered online. Wait times ranged from 15 minutes for some lucky patrons to a whopping 90 minutes for a poor lady next to me who was just getting 2 salads and some chicken (they forgot the souvlaki which added another 15 minutes at least - I don't know exactly how long since I escaped Alcatraz before she did). My total wait time in the store was about another 45 minutes so my total time from order to completion was just about 80 minutes - pretty tough to ask for some gyro off of the spit. What made it worse was that they tried to get me out the door but I insisted on checking my order (I'd waited all that time so I wanted to be sure). Of course, they missed both our desserts, 2 of our dips and put someone else's food in my bag. Luckily that got sorted out in a few minutes but today's experience was a horrible odyssey. The food is good here but they really shouldn't be taking online orders without figuring out some kind of system to process them. Based on this experience, I'll probably stick to the Port Washington location exclusively now. Weak showing. 1 star for the experience but an extra 1 since I know the food is good. read more
