Chicken Kofta Kabab
Melanie R.

I enjoyed the food here very much. We started off with a salad which was a courtesy of the restaurant. I used the white sauce as a dressing which was delicious. I had the Chicken Kofta Kabab which was a seasoned ground chicken skewer served with brown rice. It was very good. The service was great. The interior was beautiful. It's BYOB which makes the restaurant even better.

Excellent food, amazing service, and great value. The people here are so friendly. Jamal was so friendly when I first came, sharing some deserts on the house, giving me tea while I waited, and making sure I was taken care of. The food is very tasty. The chicken is tender and juicy, large portions, and the rice was great. The portions were large enough to save half for lunch the next day. The humus was amazing, and this is coming from a person who's very picky with food. My girlfriend loved her dumplings, and I did as well. Overall, Sami's offers excellent service with a warm and inviting staff that makes you feel right at home. The food is delicious with large portions that will fill you up and or give you leftovers for another meal next time. If you live in the Glen Cove area and enjoy Mediterranean food, I highly recommend stopping by Sami's Kabab House. You will not be disappointed. Five stars.

Always delicious

Sami's has two locations and I can confirm that both of them have the same great service and delicious food. My Afghani friends have said great things about Sami's so I knew I would love it. The portions are very reasonable for any dish, the meat is super tender, and the rice is fragrant- what's not to love? Definitely get the raisins and carrots with the rice- trust me you won't regret it. All in all, I'm glad that there's a Sami's near me.

Food was fresh, very kind staff. Was busy when I went so just in time to get a table in the front by the doors. There was another section to sit but that was full. Food was nice fresh , meats were tender and juicy. It's halal. Mostly Meats, they have salmon as well. They have sweet dishes too like Phirni. Had kava after all the food so a nice balance. We got a family platter which wasn't on the menu. But if you flip the menu they have this photo. Just a photo. So the waiter show Us and said this is the family platter and you can customize it like add whatever meats you'd like. They bring salad to you as a free appetizer. Overall food was great. Siting location was just a bit eh. Hopefully next time we get to sit at the other location in the other room.

Newly opened Afghani place in Glen Cove in a location that seems to be jinxed - new restaurant opens up in the location every few years but doesn't last long. Sami's Kabob House apparently has a location in Astoria which reportedly dishes out really great food. I wasn't feeling it with my take-out order from this location. The hummus was okay. Expected some homemade Afghan bread with the order which I didn't get - instead I had a few pieces of pita bread. The kofte kabob was on the dry side and rice too sweet for my taste.

Honestly kinda disappointed while I went here, I was at least expecting water off the get go with a huge party and we didn't even get that at the very least. Anyway, they don't have a family platter which kinda sucks too and the wait is about an hour despite there being very few customers in general. They were short staffed so that sucks and I know it can be tough but the wait took forever.

I've been dying for something new to eat and we realized we haven't gotten to try Sami's since they've opened up! And WOW every single thing we ordered was phenomenal! you will not be not be disappointed.

Incredible appetizer - crispy eggplant with mint yogurt. Borani Banjan

Absolutely incredible. I've been to the location in Astoria and was craving the Uzbeki Pulao since I had it last. This location is beautiful and the service is what truly made the meal even better. Start your meal with fresh, delicious warm bread, delicious yogurt and mint chutney and save room for the main course! The lamb falls off the bone, with a blend of spices like you've never had. The restaurant is also available for catering - can't wait to come back! Warm, welcoming, lovely staff. Atiq insisted we have dessert to go and treated us like family. Highly recommend.

My friend and I got the barg kabob with naan and the Sabzi palak (beef with spinach) that we got with rice. Both were good, but I enjoyed the texture of the meat and spinach dish more. The rice was flavorful. I overheard Rafi explaining to the other table and folks that got takeout that it would be an extra charge, but he could customize their orders, which I thought was nice that he was very transparent with them upfront and willing to work with the customer so that they could order the items that they want. I also appreciated him explaining to my friend that Turkish coffee comes with sugar and not milk and clarifying if she was OK with that before he made the coffee. We were given free firnee. We already knew what we wanted for our entrées but decided to start with a few appetizers. For our main course, we ordered the Mixed Grill Combination, which included lamb tikka, lamb kebab, jujeh, and chicken tikka. The portion was generous--perfect for sharing and even better for leftovers. It happened to be my aunts birthday and we were offered a traditional Afghan dessert, Firnee. It was a pudding topped with pistachios. It was creamy and sweet. Such a thoughtful gesture. By the way they also offer BYOB, which is a nice bonus. Overall, great food, friendly service, and an enjoyable dining experience.

Kabul Kabab offers the most delectable, flavorful, and cost-effective family meal in the area. The combo #1 or #2 is more than enough to feed a family of 4-6 and it has great value. A combo comes with salad, onions/grilled tomatoes, 2-4 skewers if your choice (depending on which one you get) and a whole STEAMER TRAY of delicious rice. Pro tip: the lamb kebab is always worth the extra $3 or so and the brown rice is the winner in our home (brown rice = more flavorful + more fiber = winwin!) Please do give this place a try if you're in the area and need to feed at least 3-4 mouths--the people there are so nice and the food is amazing--would give 30/10 stars if I could!

It's become a reliable stop whenever you're craving authentic Persian food done well. One thing I've always appreciated here is the little touches. The warm bread they bring out is wonderful, and if you know to ask, they'll sometimes bring lentils as well -- a comforting start to the meal that feels very traditional. The meats are always fresh and beautifully seasoned, which is exactly what you hope for when ordering Persian kebabs. They recently renovated the Roslyn Heights location, and the space now feels very modern and polished. It's definitely an upgrade visually. That said, the dining room is a bit on the smaller side, and the tables sit fairly close together -- close enough that you might hear your neighbor's conversation. The Huntington location has a more relaxed, family-style Persian feel, while Roslyn feels more contemporary. Service has always been thoughtful. During our visit, we accidentally dropped a fork and the staff immediately replaced it without hesitation. Small gestures like that go a long way. What also makes Ravagh special is its place in the Roslyn Heights community. Located in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood on Long Island, it's nice to see a restaurant serving authentic halal Persian cuisine and welcoming such a diverse crowd. It adds something meaningful to the local dining scene. The spices and flavors are always the highlight. Desserts could perhaps be elevated a bit more, but the overall experience -- from the kebabs to the hospitality -- keeps people coming back. A lovely dinner spot on Long Island that continues to represent Persian cuisine with consistency and care.

Today my other half was in the mood for lamb so I ordered the lamb shank kabuli again along with the chef combo which consisted of lamb chop, lamb tikka, chicken and fish over rice. I really enjoyed my meal overall, I would say the apps and mains were both delicious but I would give an edge to the mains. The food: Borani Banjan- This was the highlight app for me with some freshly made Afghai Naan. Man this was so good and a must order. The eggplant was cooked perfectly. Bamia- This was like a stewed Okra and I loved this dish, the okra was cooked down but the flavor was so damn good. Mantu- This was a nice delicate dumpling, it was made well but because of the cumin I couldn't help think it reminded me of Tex Mex food. Aushuk- This was OK, it was kinda strange because there was this fermented flavor to it that kinda bothered me. Chicken Afghani Kabab- I am shocked to say this but the chicken was my favorite protein. It was perfection, it was perfectly juicy with a nice smokey outer char, this was amazing. Uzbeki Qabuli Pulao- This was a braised lamb shank and was no teeth required tender. It so incredibly delicate and so delicious. Salmon- Fat slabs of salmon cooked to perfection with a nice outer smokey char. So good. Lamb Kabab- This was fine but not as exciting as the above. The lamb was chewier than I was hoping but the flavor was nice. Beef Kofta- It was like a ground meat patty. It was ok, it was a bit chewy and a bit dry but it was alright. The two I want to try on my next visit is the shrimp and the lamb chops, can't wait for a second visit.
