First I'd like to state the employees here are great, the food is always good and consistent. This is about the drive thru. There are two lanes to order. When its not busy, no problem. However when it's busy, the line to the right side cuts over after ordering too soon. It holds the left line back at times and its not a zipper merge. I can't believe I haven't reviewed one of the places I visit the most! (And, one of my favorites!) Although Chick-fil-A is a consistently good brand, I still find some locations to be better than others. That, of course, is due to the management and team at the local level. Well, to me, the Downey location (on Firestone Blvd) is the best. Why? The friendliness and service level of its staff. Always friendly, always helpful and always extremely efficient. I was a little hesitant to eat inside... the area can be a little nuts and there's a high school nearby... But lemme say... this became one of my favorite CFAs... Everyone here was friendly and approachable but there's a little lady inside, Sandra... and she makes this CFA special. She was walking around, cleaning and picking up... I didn't pay attention at first. But then I noticed- the playground is immaculate and doesn't have a smell... she had recently cleaned it and had door propped open to air it out. Thoughtful. Every empty table, she cleaned so well, like she was at home- arranging the vase with care. She would fill the sauce station neatly and stacked to the brim. She saw me with 2 littles, walked over with a box, full of hand wipes and mints, and offered us some. When my boys were being loud and I was trying to settle them down, she laughed quietly and reassured me it's fine, that's what kids do. If I could take her home to be grandma to these boys, I probably would. This place is clean, despite the constant assault of teenagers walking thru the door. It was like crazy when you're in a hurry you go through the drive-through so people can get done fast no but this guy wanted to sit there and talk to this other customer regarding his tattoos. The staff are so nice and friendly but the service is bad. This chic-fil-a is always packed so I give them the benefit of the doubt. The guy that handed me my food was a teenage male that was incredibly high. As I pulled up in my car to the window he walked into my window lucky my window was down but the fact that my car was still in motion while he was putting my bags in was hilarious. Also I would like to share some notes as well. 1 being needs improvement, 10 being excellent Parking: 8.9/10 plenty of spaces available never had a issue on the weekday parking. Not sure about weekends. Outside appearance: 9.6/10 the building is pretty much brand new and kept clean. Staff service: 9.5/10 always nice and helpful. The drive thru is always a quick and easy experience. Food and restaurant experiance notes: such a great restaurant in Downey. The food is so amazing. They are to chicken sandwiches, what in and out out is to burgers. I love the number 2 spicy chicken with chic fil la sauce on everything. Worst customer service ever! The food is always awesome I don't think anyone would deny that but the customer service here is HORRIBLE. I was in the drive thru and had a big order ($90)- it was a Friday and I thought I'd get some of my students some Chic Fil A before the 4th of July break. Everything was handled well enough considering the size of the order. When I got to school I realized we were one sandwich short. I proceeded to give all the students their food and made my way back to get my sandwich that was shorted (Spicy Deluxe). Upon arriving to the drive thru I'm greeted by an order taker. After telling the order taker that I've been shorted a sandwich, she hands me off to a superior (I'm speculating but she looked as though she was running the entire crew outside). A few moments go by and the two have a conversation on the side, presumably discussing how to fix this problem. The original order taker comes back to my car and asks me to turn around, park my car, go inside the restaurant, and tell ANOTHER person that I've been shorted a sandwich. Why? Why not just bring the sandwich out through the drive through? There's at least 6 people doing exactly that to multiple cars simultaneously. This was a classic example of "not my problem, have someone else deal with it" at the expense of the customer of course. When I enter the restaurant and tell person #3 that I've been shorted a sandwich (which btw at that point I furnish my receipt showing my $90 order) she hands me off to another superior. Another conversation is had on the side as if this is a big deal. Superior #2/person #4 then approached me, hesitates and asks for my bag of food. I tell her that I don't have the bags of food since I already dropped everything off to my kids. She then tells me that she'll allow this ONE TIME exception as if I were the one asking THEM a favor. At this point I'm fed up. I calmly but firmly tell superior #2 that buying another sandwich is NOT A BIG DEAL, but the fact is, I was shorted a sandwich. Why is this so hard to fix? Just get me a damn sandwich... you would think that showing her my receipt she'd be sympathetic at least a little bit. She resisted everything as if it were her own store and her own money. When I finally received my sandwich no apology was made by ANYONE- not management not workers, NOBODY. As if I were swindling a sandwich. Chic Fil A you're way better than this. Retrain these people ASAP on CUSTOMER SERVICE. The moral of the story that seems to be lost on everyone who handled this situation is simple- just give the customer their food and don't make a big deal about it. Now there's a negative comment/rating on your already struggling Yelp reputation at this location which will probably be followed with a phone call (yes I know, I'm going FULL Karen on this). This should have been an easy fix, instead incompetent and impractical people (including management) decided to blow this up like it was a big deal. This is my favorite Chick fila. It's brand new, clean, has amazing restrooms, and everyone who works here is amazing. There are two lines for drive thru and lots of parking. I was going to purchase Family meal for five. My son went ahead in front of us to get his free sandwich as he was told by two employees. Then he was told he's not able to get anything. The employees said they never seen this certificate or card for the free sandwich, in a very unprofessional manner. My question is what's the point of the motivation for my son winning something, and it's not follow through the establishment. Kids should not be played around like that with these rewards.
