This one, at least on first visit, has a small but reasonable bit of seating inside, more seating outside (bring a wipe tho, seating outside is shared with a coffee shop and several other businesses so it gets busy), and isn't too slow with drinks. Note that drink sizes here are reasonable and not large... forgot to check if they offer a large size. Decor is concrete-cute-industrial, a bit more industrial than some other Chicha San Chen locations, and service is friendly. Very solid addition to Sawtelle if you don't mind paying a significant premium for your milk tea or fruit tea, added bonus that they're in a plaza that actually has parking. read more

My friend got the passion fruit green tea and it was super refreshing and really well balanced, not overly sweet or artificial tasting. Interiors beautiful with a nice aroma of tea as well as some small tables outside space right next to Alfred's. Went Saturday evening and there was only a small line (1-2 people before me) and you can either choose to order from the register or a touchscreen. Drink came out relatively quickly - I'd say within 5 minutes. Price is a bit steep though even for boba and price. I got the creamy lemon tart drink -- nice contrast between the cream top and the lemon tea. I usually have to adjust the sweetness for drinks but didn't this time and didn't think the sweetness was too overwhelming because of the nice balance from lemon tartness! Right off the bat I have to say the service here was incredible. The workers were very friendly and gave great descriptions of the tea choices and we were even given samples. I ordered the osmanthus oolong tea with milk and boba. I liked the drink, it was good, but it wasn't mind blowing. Seriously some of the best teas. Recently just opened on the west side and it's in a perfect area with plenty of eateries so you can either have a pre meal or dessert drink. Some of the popular choices that even won awards are: High mountain pouchong tea Ding dong oolong For this visit and that gave a sample and won me over is the green tea and mango, less sweet and with boba. The boba texture. Divine. Although I haven't been to many locations and I've only gone to the SGV location twice during covid but the staff here is so friendly. From walking in, sat the counter and even to the owner. It shows that they enjoy working there. Fun fact and probably a secret is they really use filtered water. You scan a QR code to access their menu. Came here for soft opening with a friend and our experience was great! I ordered their award winning green tea with cream and bubble and it was good. I ordered mine with normal ice and perfect sweetness. The green tea flavor was good, but I do wish it was stronger and less watery. The same goes for the cream. The cream was nice and light though. The bubble/boba was nicely chewy and not too hard nor soft. It also wasn't soaked in sugar which I liked. Overall this was good, but I've had better elsewhere. My order was also $9 which was too expensive for a boba tea. The drinks came packaged cutely with their signature holder which was cute. The interior was neat and nicely decorated with Taiwanese elements. I liked how there was a tea tasting station. However, we didn't have time to participate since the tasting takes about 15 minutes and the restaurant only validates 30 minutes for parking (underground) and we did have to wait a bit for our order since the shop was relatively busy. To begin on a positive note, this latest branch is beautifully decorated and staffed with very welcoming and friendly folks. That said, my Cassia black tea (the strongest on their menu) with milk was not at all what I expected...it literally tasted of lightly sweetened milk and nothing else. We tried the creamy lemon tart and the green tea with passion fruit. Both were delicious but I really enjoyed the creamy lemon tart on a hot day. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The highlight of this Chi Cha is exceptional service. Everyone was super sweet, but the standout was the employee by the name of Long! Long was super patient with us even as we asked him about our order number, and explained everything about how the process worked thoroughly. The drinks we got had great tea flavor, and the inside was clean and well-kempt. I especially like that they have a tea tasting bar, and will definitely come back to try it. My favorite was the Cassia Black tea with cream, which has a creamy, almost cocoa-like flavor, and my friend added bubble. I wasn't a huge fan of the High Mountain Pouchong tea with mousse and bubble, but the tea flavor was good. The drinks are also not too sweet, so keep that in mind if you have a sweet tooth. Here we were greeted by Aaron who eagerly explained to us the differences between the five roasts of oolong tea leaves they had from Taiwan. He was very careful in ensuring that each tea was made with 3g of leaves and 6 minutes of boiling the tea. It was a wonderful experience; we were able to appreciate each of the different teas fully :) Then we went to go place our orders. We ordered: green tea with cream, high mountain with milk and boba, and dong ding oolong with milk and boba. My favorite was the green tea with cream (perfect sugar and less ice) - really great tea flavor and just the right amount of sweetness. My sister's favorite was dong ding oolong; I could taste a darker roast in this for sure. For the high mountain, it's a creamy taste! All of them are great, and I liked how we were able to get a preview of the high mountain leaves with smell. I am excited to try more of their flavors in the future! Stopped by on a quick visit to Sawtelle, and everything about CHICHA San Chen impressed! I haven't been following the hype, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Service is friendly, and the place wasn't too busy when we went, but I could definitely see the line going out the door during busy Sawtelle weekend hours. The vibe is sleek and minimalist. We were able to try a sample of their pouchong tea with lemon juice before placing our order. That stuff is GOOD! I ended up getting the creamy lemon tart, which adds a dairy-free mousse to the pouchong + lemon juice. It was really hard to put down. It tasted almost like a creamsicle! We also got the creamy mango tart, which was really good, too. It's just really hard to outdo the lemon juice--I'd highly recommend it if you're unsure of what to get.
