I've visited here before and should've posted sooner. Night life in Chinatown is underrated. Often I'm here in the daytime of the weekends for local dim sum. But there is a fantastic night life here with many restaurants and bars buzzing. Steep is one of them. They sat me and Buddy without reservations. (Something I'll have ready next time). But honestly anywhere you sit inside or out is great. We were inside at a short counter and short barstools. Comfortable. Service was friendly and chill. Ambiance was laid back, esthetically pleasing, and the had an attractive crowd. I order a salted plum lager and my bro got a Sochu medicine. Check out the Menu for all the cool ingredients. They do have small food plates that nice. This place is a bit pricey, but you should be treating yourself if you're out here. My only nit pick, they offer a free snack. The tea ceremony is fun whether you're with a group or on your own. Only negative is that I just feel like the pastries are cold and not very fresh. Only downside was it was very loud and echoey and unfortunately, mostly due to a large group nearby. We ended up moving outside where there were many open tables and finished off our tea. I got an Oolong Cream Soda and it was really great! Comes in a can, but the match it with a nice glass of cubed ice. It was very smooth! A really nice taste of tea, but a hint of cream soda. Not sugary and overpowering but a nice mix of cream. Vert refreshing after a hot day! Lastly, we didn't get and food so I can't speak to that. Honestly I was there for a quick tea and not food so I didn't even look at that, but I sure it would be a nice place to grab food as well! Prices looked reasonable. Wow, just wow. I've been to Steep only twice after crack by Taiwanese food from my recent trip to Taipei. Not only did Steep satiate my cravings, I have to say, it surpassed it. Both times, I have left saying "wow" and thinking of the delicious bites that entered my mouth. What was that? Why can't I get my mind off of it? What about these meals brings me the comfort of home? And the tea? Don't even get me started on the tea. Another thing I didn't know I needed in my life after Taiwan. Dinner recommendations: chewy tofu and rice are the hits. Their menu changes but today for lunch on a hot day, their seafood soba noodles dish & green papaya salad were perfect. The freshly brewed oolong oat milk ice tea the I drank afterwards was not only a perfect palette cleanser but also a perfect dessert. The service was prompt and on point. The ambiance of the place was also cute with the tea and mahjong sets on display. I also love all the natural wood that makes the interior look clean, warm and inviting. This bar is tucked away and hidden from North Broadway in the north east corner of Chinatown and away from the crowds. Located interior courtyard style plaza, it's a cool spot to chill if you're looking for a quite and not so dense spot to chill. The cocktails here are well balanced between teas and spirits. They do have a good selection of Japanese and Taiwanese whiskys. For those Asians that want a drink but don't want to turn red with alcohol, they do have a mocktail menu. Steep does have a kitchen that serves up some appetizers, snacks and some minimal entrees. Aside from the cocktails, we also had dessert here. My favorite iced tea was the Iced Sesame Milk Tea which was nutty and creamy AND not too sweet of course. My favorite hot tea was the Jumi Herbal Tea which was soothing and perfect for a cold night. My favorite NA cocktail was the Oolong Cream Soda which was light and refreshing and surprisingly tasted like actual cream soda. My favorite cocktail was the Manila Moonrise which was has an ube cream and looked like a beautiful purple flower. Food highlights were the Chewy Tofu and the Lu Rou Fan (braised pork belly). The Tofu was an enjoyable crispy yet chewy texture and had a little kick (mildly spicy). I would say the entire experience was great - except for the service for Steep After Dark. Daytime service was excellent and timely. But for Steep After Dark it felt like I was always trying to get the staff's attention and had to ask multiple times for anything to be done. And I must shyly admit that sometimes near sunset hours, I take a bottle of tea to go and head to the LA State Historic Park a few blocks away for some solid dog and people watching.
