I've visited here before and should've posted sooner. Night life in Chinatown is underrated. Often I'm here in the daytime of the weekends for local dim sum. But there is a fantastic night life here with many restaurants and bars buzzing. Steep is one of them. They sat me and Buddy without reservations. (Something I'll have ready next time). But honestly anywhere you sit inside or out is great. We were inside at a short counter and short barstools. Comfortable. Service was friendly and chill. Ambiance was laid back, esthetically pleasing, and the had an attractive crowd. I order a salted plum lager and my bro got a Sochu medicine. Check out the Menu for all the cool ingredients. They do have small food plates that nice. This place is a bit pricey, but you should be treating yourself if you're out here. My only nit pick, they offer a free snack. Spicy popcorn with furikake flakes. Sounds good. It really wasn't. Kinda felt like we wasted it. But whatever's, order from the menu. Super easy covered parking for only $5. Detached but clean restrooms.

Been wanting to try this place and was worth the visit. Food was pretty good and drinks yummy

Comfortable laid back tea house with solid Taiwanese comfort food. Came here for a lunch meeting and was pleasantly surprised. Thoughtful service, clean environment and authentic food and tea. Really enjoyed the braised pork rice and chicken rice. The fish balls were also tasty. Check Steep out if you are in the neighborhood and want an authentic spot to just chill.

Awesome tea shop with a good range of hot and cold brew teas including matcha. Full bar too plus cocktails and food. Cool hip interior and also small patio seating. Reasonably priced a great little tea and speakeasy bar

**Weekday morning review** Their teas are excellent both hot and iced. The special menu teas are always a highlight and definitely worth ordering. The tea ceremony is fun whether you're with a group or on your own. Only negative is that I just feel like the pastries are cold and not very fresh. If you're a business in Chinatown, I just feel like you can source fresher pastries or heat them up... Service is always pretty solid, they're patient and helpful with recommendations. I especially love the outdoor seating; there's lots of chairs and shade, and it's always very clean. The music can get a bit loud at times, but it's not a big deal. Parking is kinda iffy, but if it's a weekday you probably can find metered street parking.

I visited on a Saturday morning when they first opened - during the 30 minutes that I was there only one other person ordered anything. The staff was very nice and the interior felt cozy to me so it was a pleasant experience but hopefully they're typically busier than what I saw. For the food/drink itself, I ordered an Oolong tea and a pomello cheesecake. The tea was fine, albeit didn't stand out compared to any other oolongs I've had elsewhere. I enjoyed the pomello cheesecake, which wasn't particularly sweet (which was good because it was the first thing I ate that day). Overall a nice spot but definitely on the pricier side. Would visit again if I were in the area.

Loved it here. I wanted to do a tea ceremony for my birthday with tea and snacks, and this was a great option. I wish they had a tea flight but that is okay. The tea ceremony was a great experience. Do this with friends you don't mind getting vulnerable with because it is an emotional experience. The tea was super fresh and lovely. It came with some pastries and dried fruit which was nice to snack on. I also got a side of furikake popcorn since I heard how popular it was. It was super savory and flavorful. I wish it was warm/fresh, since it did was a cold/stale slight taste to it, but it was great nonetheless. The service was homey and friendly and I'd come back for more food and teas.

We had just finished dinner at Firstborn and thought we'd come here for another cocktail. It's a cute space. We sat at the bar. The bartenders were friendly and helpful. We got the Sauvage garden and the Sochu medicine. 2 Beautifully crafted cocktails. And their complimentary popcorn is the bomb.

Really cute spot for tea-infused drinks and food! Was only able to try their cocktails because I got there late, and they were very delicious and unique. In a tucked in spot in Chinatown, lots of seating area inside and outside as well. Will be back to try their food!

Delicious food, beautiful patio, cozy indoor space, friendly staff, what more could you want? They are in the middle of small business central. Their menu is inclusive, noting vegan and gluten free options. I had their Boon Boon noodles and while they didn't make me full, it was yummy! I would say maybe another half cup of noodles and toppings and you're set. The table appetizer of seasoned popcorn was also nice to get the taste buds going and to satisfy the munch until the food arrived.

Love to come here when I'm in the area. It can be pretty empty during the day. It's usually busier at night, even on weekdays that I've stopped by. It can get loud here with groups. Have seen some people here for dates and small group settings. Nice place to hang out. Not a big fan of the free popcorn. I've tried it a couple of times and it always tastes stale to me and gets stuck to my teeth. I've tried a couple of alcoholic drinks here. I have a pretty low tolerance to alcohol so one drink here is enough for the night. I think my favorite item from Steep is the mango pomelo sago cheesecake. It's not a huge portion but was enough for me to satisfy my sweet tooth. Plaza has a parking lot. Forgot how much it costs. I usually just find some street parking by the residences and walk a couple blocks.

Steep LA is more than just a restaurant, tea shop, or bar -- it's a movement aimed at revitalizing the cultural and social fabric of LA's Chinatown. I've visited many times for different events, from guest bartender takeovers to the summer night market, and each time it has fostered a real sense of community while bridging connections across Asian culture. The owners themselves are welcoming and approachable, often serving cocktails and food during events. That personal touch, combined with genuine hospitality, makes the space feel warm and inviting. The food menu highlights classic Taiwanese and Chinese entrees, and after 5 p.m., the focus expands to cocktails. The cocktail list is especially creative, featuring a range of tea-based drinks that draw on diverse tea varieties to create something distinctive and memorable.

Ask the Community - Steep

Do I need reservations for Steep After Dark?

No, last time I just showed up. You should try to go early though since sometimes they run out of the special cocktails!

Is there outdoor seating?

Yes there is!

Do you have gluten free food options?

Hi Amanda, we have our Chicken Rice 2.0. The dish itself is gluten free. It does come with 3 sauces on the side. The chicken stock soy sauce would be the only one with gluten and something you can definitely stay away from to keep the dish… Read more

[Parking]: Metered parking wasn't super easy to find and I had to park two blocks away (near intersection of Yale St & W College St) from Chinatown Central Plaza. [Event]: General Lee's is best known for hosting weekday Hong Kong style Mahjong night (sponsored by Mahjong Underground) and please check the IG page for the exact date (e.g. February 2026 was every Wednesday and March 2026 is every Monday). No RSVP is required and our party just simply walked in at 8 PM sharp. Free admission, but 21+ only. [Pro tip]: Please come as early as the cocktail lounge can get pretty crowded within 15 minutes of opening time (8 PM). Otherwise Mahjong tables will be taken up pretty quickly. [Experience]: There were 7 beginner tables on the 2nd level and 9 advanced table on the 1st level. The lounge had DJ playing music so the lounge can get a bit loud. The beginner tables had two laminated pages on how to read Mahjong tiles and how to play Hong Kong style Mahjong. The players at the beginner tables were friendly and our table played open-hand, but it would be great if an actual instructor can teach us more advanced rules. Restroom (unisex) was quite clean. [Conclusion]: Expect packed crowd on Mahjong nights with friendly Mahjong players, but this is not exactly the best place to really learn how to play Mahjong. I see this lounge as more of a place to socialize with other strangers.

We arrived at around 6:30 PM so it wasn't too busy. We were greeted by one of the servers and she gave us options to either sit at a lounge table area or hightop tables. We opted for the hightop tables because we knew we weren't staying there for long. The server was friendly and patient as we looked over the menu for drinks. I've been sober for about a year so I only had water, my boyfriend ordered a Naoshima Dream, his cousin ordered a Mango Cart, and his cousin's girlfriend ordered a Lemon Drop Martini. The bar was super cute and hipster! I honestly would have loved going to this bar back when I used to drink. It's dimly lit, had a vintage 20's speakeasy feel to it and the music was a vibe. I'd recommend coming here for a little date with your partner or even coming with a group of friends. My boyfriend had been here once before and he said the food was really good and affordable. He had a panini and said for bar food it was a 10/10. We waited maybe like 10 minutes for our drinks to come, we were having such a fun time chatting and enjoying the environment that it didn't feel long at all. My boyfriend, his cousin, and his cousin's girlfriend really enjoyed their drinks. They said the drinks tasted "light" insinuating that there was barely any alcohol in it. Don't let the taste fool you, after finishing half of their drink there were full of smiles, giggles, and had a great buzz going. The prices here were all pretty fair for the cost and quality of the drinks. Would defintely recommend coming here for drinks and dinner for a date night or a night out with friends!
