The cream soda was not too sweet, bubbly and refreshing with a good amount of tea flavor. The pork belly dish was delicious: you can't go wrong with fatty and crispy pork on a warm bed of rice. The last time I was here with friends, we got the Shuoguo Negroni, Honey Lemon Tea and something else I forgot but it seems like they really got it down with their drinks! I've visited here before and should've posted sooner. Night life in Chinatown is underrated. Often I'm here in the daytime of the weekends for local dim sum. But there is a fantastic night life here with many restaurants and bars buzzing. Steep is one of them. They sat me and Buddy without reservations. (Something I'll have ready next time). But honestly anywhere you sit inside or out is great. We were inside at a short counter and short barstools. Comfortable. Service was friendly and chill. Ambiance was laid back, esthetically pleasing, and the had an attractive crowd. I order a salted plum lager and my bro got a Sochu medicine. Check out the Menu for all the cool ingredients. I want to preface this before I start my review. I have been wanting to try the night menu at Steep for a while now because the drinks sound unique and tasty. We've had a couple of the tea drinks before when they were at Smorgasburg recently and really enjoyed those. We were in the area and decided to drop by on a whim. We didn't have reservations, but wanted to check if there was space available. When we walked in around 8:20pm, there was only one employee behind the bar, speaking to someone that was at the bar (possibly an employee who was off the clock). Two more parties walked in behind us and after 5ish minutes, the employee behind the bar seated all of us. We were given menus when seated. Then after about 5 minutes, were given water and a bowl of popcorn, but no mention about putting in orders. There was another employee who seemed like a server, that would appear and disappear, walked around with a tablet, and took selfies with the person at the bar (off-the-clock employee?). He seemed to LOOK busy, but not sure with what. It seemed like they were understaffed for a weekend, and not really efficient. It seemed as though the bar employee was doing multiple tasks (seating, serving, and bartending). I can understand and have empathy for being understaffed, but cannot deal with not being acknowledged for 20-30 minutes despite making eye contact with both employees, especially when I feel like the server was not doing enough. I walked up to the bar area to try to put an order in, but what pushed us over the edge was seeing the party that just walked in get their order taken immediately. This is the first time I, and the other 2 people in my party, felt the need to get up and leave an establishment. If someone had come over and just mentioned that they're understaffed, or that they're a bit backed up, or just acknowledged us in any way, we would've appreciated it and been more okay with waiting around. I'm disappointed that we had such a negative experience considering that I've been looking forward to trying the night menu, and wanting to support a local business. However, I'm hoping that this will help the owners/ managers reevaluate their staffing and service. Not sure if I'll want to try coming back again. read more

The reason why I rated this place so low is because they charged a 20% gratuity for our party of six. They had no posted signage nor did it ever say gratuity included for large party on their menus. Steep.. It's a tea bar during the day. At night, it's different story.. Cocktail bar with tea inspired cocktails. This bar is tucked away and hidden from North Broadway in the north east corner of Chinatown and away from the crowds. Located interior courtyard style plaza, it's a cool spot to chill if you're looking for a quite and not so dense spot to chill. The cocktails here are well balanced between teas and spirits. They do have a good selection of Japanese and Taiwanese whiskys. For those Asians that want a drink but don't want to turn red with alcohol, they do have a mocktail menu. Steep does have a kitchen that serves up some appetizers, snacks and some minimal entrees. Aside from the cocktails, we also had dessert here. Pineapple cheesecake good at best with specs of pineapple fruit. We enjoyed the rosy oolong tartlet a bit more. Chocolate ganache type tart with an oolong top cream. Pretty good. My favorite NA cocktail was the Oolong Cream Soda which was light and refreshing and surprisingly tasted like actual cream soda. My favorite cocktail was the Manila Moonrise which was has an ube cream and looked like a beautiful purple flower. Food highlights were the Chewy Tofu and the Lu Rou Fan (braised pork belly). The Tofu was an enjoyable crispy yet chewy texture and had a little kick (mildly spicy). I would say the entire experience was great - except for the service for Steep After Dark. Daytime service was excellent and timely. But for Steep After Dark it felt like I was always trying to get the staff's attention and had to ask multiple times for anything to be done.
