Matcha Soft Serve w/ Matcha Warabimochi topping | Sawtelle - Los Angeles, California
    Justin L.

Hokkaido dairy is famous for being exceptionally rich and creamy. Indigo Cow imports milk and cream from Iwase Farms in Japan to make their soft serve. I was having lunch in Sawtelle, and I decided to stop here for dessert afterwards. You can order their signature milk flavor, the special seasonal flavor, or a swirl of both flavors. They have a small list of toppings to choose from. I got a cup of matcha soft serve topped with matcha warabimochi and drizzled with matcha sauce. Sweet with a nice earthy flavor, though a little icy at the bottom. Matcha used to be a permanent menu item, but it looks like they will rotate it out occasionally. Check the seasonal flavor option before you go.

The Vibe: Strictly a grab-and-go operation. Small, efficient, and focused entirely on the product. The Standouts: Hokkaido milk soft serve with warabi mochi. The contrast between the creamy, cold dairy and the chewy, nutty mochi is elite. It is not overly sweet, which lets the milk quality shine. Elite Tips: Known for using genuine Hokkaido milk, which gives it a much richer fat content than standard soft serve. Perfect for a post-meal stroll through Sawtelle. They share a parking lot/structure with Alfred's. There's also plenty of street parking on Corinth and Tennessee if you don't mind a short walk.

Hokkaido Milk with Matcha Sauce and M.B.R. topping (mochi+ brown sugar syrup+ roasted soy bean powder)

Was so excited to try this spot out since I grabbed lunch right next door, it was a nice short walk over. I really wanted to try Hokkaido Milk swirled with Matcha. Unfortunately, they don't have Matcha on the menu anymore. They only have Hokkaido Milk or Pistachio. Seems like they changed the menu for quite some time, they even changed the 3D lettering on the wall menu. There's still Matcha Sauce or Matcha Centric topping but no Matcha soft serve. I chose Hokkaido with Matcha Sauce and M.B.R (Mochi +Brown Sugar Syrup +Roasted Soy Bean Powder). Hokkaido was quite creamy but a bit sweeter than I expected. All the Matcha sauce and brown sugar syrup sank to the bottom of my cup and it made it way too sweet for my liking. It ended up being just ok.

Simply delicious! Super creamy and milky. Toppings were excellent. In and out less than 2 minutes. Flavor!!

After snacking, eating, and drinking for the entire day, my friend and I ended our food exploration with ice cream after dinner last Saturday. Indigo Cow is located a prime spot in Sawtelle surrounded by many restaurants, and the area was really lively and busy when we were there. We got a small cup of the swirl (Hokkaido milk + matcha soft serves) to share. The guy working gave us a stingy amount of ice cream; for reference, my friend has gotten soft serve here before and has gotten a much larger portion. That aside, I enjoyed the subtle sweetness of the milk ice cream but the matcha was too sweet and the flavor was pretty weak. Overall, I'd probably be a regular if I lived in Sawtelle, but as someone visiting, I'm definitely checking other dessert spots before coming back.

Matcha Centric Hokkaido Milk Ice Cream

This Japanese ice cream spot was really good, among some of my favorite ice cream spots here in LA. I got the Hokkaido Milk ice cream and made it Matcha Centric which came with matcha, warabimochi, matcha sauce, and matcha powder. It was such a great combo. The Hokkaido Milk ice cream was soft and not too sweet. It was a great base to soak up the matcha flavoring. The matcha flavoring was tasty and the ice cream had a strong matcha flavor which I liked. I also liked how nutty it was. The warabimochi was also yummy, it was soft and chewy. Overall, a great ice cream combo. It was on the pricier side of $7 for a small ice cream cup, but the quality was good. When I visited, the AC was broken so it was pretty warm and stuffy inside. However, this was a grab and go kind of shop so it wasn't too bad. The staff working at the time I went weren't very friendly to me and my friends. I would recommend this spot as one of the better places to get dessert in the Sawtelle area!

Well made ice cream and lots of chocolate toppings. I'm a chocolate fiend so was very happy to see they had the chocolate wall available. Added that to the yuzu and brown sugar topping. Was delicious on this hot day! Would def come again.

    matcha milk swirl with mochi
    Jin H.

The milk flavor is so prominent here. I prefer an Asian milk flavor over vanilla any day, and Indigo Cow really nailed it. I enjoyed it even more than the matcha! I would get just the milk flavor next time in a larger size and skip on the toppings. Would highly recommend this spot if you're in Sawtelle and need a sweet treat!

Soft serve with mochi and kinako powder and brown sugar syrup
    Judy T.

This was my first time trying this place, the soft serve uses Hokkaido milk and different optional toppings. I was happy that they had some traditional toppings you don't see much in the US. I love the kinako powder and brown sugar syrup it gives it a slightly sweet but delicious blend with the Hokkaido milk soft serve. I especially like the mochi on top as well which gives this dessert different textures. I would come back again and try the other flavors such as matcha.

    Bella S.

I was craving a good chew for my sweet treat. This place had amazing quality matcha ice cream mixed with the milk ice cream. I got the mochi balls which were yummy and I got a nice drizzle of a syrup on top. The worker was rude, but at least the ice cream was delicious!!

Hokkaido Ice Cream with MBR Toppings
    Tristen S.

I got the Hokkaido milk ice cream with the MBR toppings (mochi, brown sugar syrup, and roasted soy bean powder). I could definitely taste the Hokkaido milk flavor in the ice cream. The toppings were my favorite! The mochi was nice & chewy and the brown sugar syrup and roasted soy bean powder balance each other out well. It's in a small shop with no seating inside, but there is one bench outside. Service was standard and quick. It's mainly street parking around.

    Kathleen N.

FOOD ok wait like Really good, not that i unexpected it but likee it was extra good this time i swear Also the mochi balls r lowkk worth it BUT UGH what a hit to my wallet but i love how light it is SERVICE SO FAST like u blink and ur ice cream is ready Also its like one person needed most times AMBIANCE very cutesy like they decorated it so well Ofc its just a shop so no tables nothing except like a bench outside lol

    Joy C.

Loved it! You can really taste the difference when you have Hokkaido milk ice cream. The space is small, they will ask you to go outside after picking up your order.

Honey Affogato: 4/5 I usually go for items with caffeine and I wanted to like it more than I actually did. It was cold and refreshing at first but the coffee tasted a little too bitter towards the bottom of the cup. Dear Chocolate: 5/5 No notes other than, it was perfection. My friend mixed the chocolate well with the soft serve, and she liked the consistency and texture. It wasn't too sweet for her either. She also did not add the sea salt Sweetie: 5/5 The honeycomb "chunk" is chewy and had a more natural taste to it, if that is what you're into! Combined with the lightness of the soft serve, the Sweetie is a solid choice for the people who are looking for sweets that are not too sweet. Overall, this is a great spot for a sweet treat. At Fosselman's, you can see they made sure it was fully packed that the lid almost couldn't cover it. Love this historic ice cream shop that still charge a reasonable price and having affordable ice cream!! The ambience is very cute with lots of candies for sale. We got some too! Very happy with our experience again! Love Fosselman's ice cream!!
