Spencer confidently assured me he had the perfect match for our event. Unfortunately, what we received was the complete opposite of what we requested. What we asked for: A highly skilled, charismatic DJ with creative mixing abilities and exceptional turntablist skills who could energize our celebration. What we got: A DJ (Margot/Diskokitty) who delivered a lackluster performance with below-average technical skills and zero enthusiasm as an MC. The Impact on Our Wedding Day The DJ's performance was so noticeably poor that multiple guests approached us asking, "What's wrong with the DJ? It's like she doesn't even want to be here." This was embarrassing and became a distraction on what should have been our perfect day. Honestly, I could have achieved the same result by pressing play on a Spotify playlist--and saved thousands of dollars in the process. Poor Communication and Planning Beyond the disappointing performance, Spencer's communication throughout the planning process was untimely and disorganized, creating unnecessary stress during an already demanding time. Broken Promises Style Matters markets themselves with bold claims: "25 of the most talented DJs this city has ever seen." -- They are not. "We will create a unique and incredibly enjoyable experience" -- They did not. "There's simply too much (music) out there to waste people's time on the stuff they've heard a million times before" -- We received exactly that: a generic, cookie-cutter wedding DJ set with zero creativity. He was especially lively and energetic when announcing the entrance of our wedding party and really helped set the tone for the evening. Once the dancing started, John seemed to have a great feel for the room and knew exactly what songs would keep the dance floor packed and the energy up. He put together a great mix of upbeat dance songs and slower songs, and the music never seemed to lose momentum. But, the day of the wedding, the DJ told my husband they were having Wi-Fi issues and couldn't access the playlist. He didn't know why the songs on the playlist weren't downloaded by the DJ before the wedding in case there were Wi-Fi issues. Guests also requested songs multiple times and were told by the DJ that they couldn't be played due to the Wi-Fi issues. Then when I asked why our playlist wasn't played, I was told "You didn't say the playlist was a must play". I wish we were told by the DJ that we needed to say that the entire playlist was "must play" during the planning phase.The DJ also didn't read the room and hype up our guests to get on the dance floor until the last song, so it felt a little dead throughout the wedding. The guests that danced were OK with the playlist, thankfully, but the DJ experience was pretty disappointing overall. If we knew the DJ experience was going to be sub-par, we probably wouldn't have paid our venue's additional audio tie-in fee.
