John at the beginning was very nice, but the more I worked with him, the more I found him to lie. He started being very pushy about wanting the rest of his balance and wanting me to "put a good word in for him" with other event planners. Update on John's unprofessional services: didn't hear from him or any DJ from his company until the day of our event. Since he told me to find another DJ I did just that so we were set with Jaz Entertainment (Carlos is awesome). A-List sent a DJ at 6:30pm along with John's sidekick to ask if we still wanted their services. They tried to get me to say I didn't need a DJ but that isn't accurate since I did need a DJ and that's what I contracted them for. John is still refusing to refund and I've filed a complaint with BBB. Fortunately someone else stepped up to save the event. read more

Amazing ! Amazing! Amazing! I'm not sure if these other reviews are even legit or how they could be talking about the same company we worked with. We met with John over a year ago, and he had the energy and professionalism we were hoping for. I had a lot of questions as a new bride and somewhat of a difficult family. John was quick to respond, always professional, and happy to always help. I did have a delay once when we text him, but it was on a weekend and I'm sure he was most likely DJing at a wedding. He got back to us early Monday and answered all of my questions. Fast forward to our wedding. We had our ceremony, the largest package, and a photobooth. The booth included props and an attendant. Everything went PERFECT ! From the moment introductions started to the very last song - John delivered everything we asked for. It was INCREDIBLE! My family aren't all dancing people and the floor was never empty. We had some songs that wanted to be played and some were event dedicated to certain guests. All were flawless. HORRIBLE!! The day of the wedding John texts me and says he hadn't heard back from my fiance so he wanted to make sure everything was good to go. UMM why would you contact him? John and I had been communicating the entire time with my phone number. It was a lie. Moving on, in the same convo he tells me that Carlos (who we wanted) was no longer available, there would be no Spanish music (my husband is half Mexican) so he would now be doing the wedding. Ok cool. I trust John so what could go wrong? Spoiler alert...everything. Here's a summed up version. My cocktail hour was at 5:30p with intros to start at 6:30p. John decided to stroll in at 6:40pm. To top that off the entire online planning form I had spent HOURS on, was ALL wrong. Along the way I had been adding things & I checked it like 17 million times the night before my wedding & it was all right. I had details in there that I was so excited to execute. I am standing up on the balcony watching the ciaos below me as my bridal party tries to get his list straight. Finally, 7pm rolls around & were ready to go. He forgot to introduce a groomsmen and a bridesmaid and didn't introduce my Matron of honor and best man correctly. Not to mention you could barely understand what he was saying into the mic. Well, I guess had he been there on time he would've been able to do a sound check.The intro song for the bridal party was wrong...it was the song my husband & I were supposed to come out to. So now as I stand in the bridal suite and am hearing all this go down I am growing increasingly more angry. This is supposed to be the best time ever & I am so so angry. Once we were all introduced the entire bridal party was to do a dance together with a song starting at a certain time in the song. That didn't happen so the entire bridal party was so lost & we looked like fools. He forgot to do our 1st dance & our parents dance before dinner. Next he calls up the pastor who did our ceremony to pray instead of my Gpa, which broke my Gpa's heart. Here comes the best part! I go up to him infuriated & he says, "well do you just want me to leave?" You're going to leave me with zero Dj and this is my wedding? I just about lost it. His attitude was ATROCIOUS. We've been trying to contact John for 2 weeks & he continues to ignore us. I hate to do this to a company but sadly, John has done this to himself. After reading other comments it appears that I am not alone in this unprofessionalism John continues to display. It was a terrible way to start the wedding and that is an event we wont ever be able to go back to. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. UPDATE; John must've seen my reviews on other sites and we have finally heard from him. He continues to tell me he isn't at fault and refuses to take responsibility let alone apologize. We were so excited to book with A List DJ's, as many of our friend's had used them for their weddings. Since we were engaged for two years, we attended the Open House at the Seville fairly early (with a year left in planning) & felt extremely confident in booking with them when we did. We were given discounts for different things such as same day booking & booking the highest package. We met with John in order to go over our ceremony & what we wanted it to look like. This was where the trouble began. We had agreed to meet at one place and he went to the wrong place. After meeting with John, we began using the online forum to plan how we wanted our day to look, super easy to use! At this time, we also decided to have a sand ceremony take place during our ceremony. We were told nothing about what we needed to provide for the day of. Fast forward to two weeks before our wedding - I received an email from the company saying that our original DJ that we booked with would not be the DJ for our wedding. We reached out to John & he had said the DJ we originally booked with was no longer with the company and we would have another individual. Okay no problem - but a heads up would have been nice. Now we are in the WEEK of the wedding - I had a gut feeling something was not right so we reached out to John to find out what would be needed for the day of. THE WEEK of the wedding, we had to scramble to get a sand ceremony kit, as John never told us that was needed. The ceremony, he announced us as married before we had our rings. We had asked John if he would be staying at the wedding when we originally spoke with him, & he said he would. We paid for his meal & he did not even stay. Overall, the communication was lacking. For someone who does this for a living, he should have been guiding us along the way. On a more positive note - our DJ, Steve was incredible. He met with us on short notice, so that we felt comfortable. He kept our guests on the dance floor all night. read more

He sent someone else that didn't stick to the playlist, take requests, and turned all the songs turned into club music. A percentage of the guests were over 40. We had John as our DJ this past Friday and I was so happy to get lots of compliments from our guests on the music. Our families are really tough to get on the dance floor so I thought he did a great job of mixing it up to try and get the different groups of people onto the floor. I felt like we were changing things on him left and right the last couple of days before the wedding and on wedding day and he was able to roll with the punches and make everything seem like it was perfectly executed. I would definitely recommend A-list to my other friends getting married. Tip: If you're getting married at the Seville we highly recommend going with A-List Djs and Jolie Images Photography because they work really well together and even give discounts/gifts for using both places. ALSO, if you're thinking about using A-list DJs then go to their open house event that they do once per month. PERFECT!! Highly recommended! We just had our Daughter's Sweet Sixteen party, it was AMAZING and so much fun! We booked the DJ and Photo booth with A-List DJs and they made it so easy and were very professional! John did a fantastic job with communicating throughout the whole process and listened to all of our details. He created a great mix for our family surprise dance and made sure it was exactly what we wanted! Hector was our DJ, he followed the details perfectly. We had a mix of Spanish/English guests, as well as teenagers and adults so the music had to be a good variety. Hector pulled it off and had all our guests dancing to both English and Spanish music! It was great. Our guests gave us such great feedback of how much they enjoyed the party. Also, Jeremy was very attentive and did an awesome job with the photo booth. From the beginning we talked with John and I thought for sure our wedding music and DJ would be awesome!! I hate to compare other weddings but our DJ Jeff was nothing like them and in a bad way. Yes he looked nice for our wedding yes he was polite and started off good with the announcements, speeches etc. But then it was time to dance and it was just bad. He played maybe 3-4 songs out if my request he assured us that his job was to get the people out there to dance and he will follow all my suggestions etc and make it perfect! It wasn't honestly it really wasn't. We had people bored sitting at tables the music when I said at 9om change it now play up beat was older songs nothing that I wanted. I was beyond specific in my online form exactly what I wanted I asked through the decades don't just play song after song mix it up blend and fade the music together make are slow songs we like find a good remix. He didn't do any of that it was literally not good. I was told after people requested music he told them no Um why I only said no to heavy metal or a song where the whole thing isn't in English etc. My husband went up to him told play stuff people are not dancing his answer I know sometimes it's Tuff Um no that's your job and you do not tell your bride and groom that you do whatever you can to fix it even if you think you are doing a great job! You promised us a great wedding we picked you because you assured us you didn't even really talk on the mic .then around 10pm I just left and cried in the bridal suit . I am all about music dancing this was so important to me and DJ are not cheap esp when you are paying for your wedding. Honestly I am beyond disappointed it's great the dj was nice but there was no use for him and they can't even play random songs no internet connection he did nothing but just play a full song after another I wanted a DJ not a kids birthday party. My husband andi should not be up the monitoring the dj. I wanted a DJ someone who blends the songs on the spot like I said I wanted I said no playing one full song after another he knew this before the wedding and if he couldn't do that or I picked the wrong package someone should have told me. I had to write this after reading so many reviews that felt the same way. I am a mother who wanted her daughters wedding to be perfect just like anyone else does.She was married a month ago and we went with A-list dj because my daughter and her husband liked john in the beginning which was over a year ago when we met him and hired him for their wedding and as the officiant. Everything seemed to go okay, there was a few hiccups but they were still happy with him. We went with one of the highest $ packages because my daughter wanted the name in lights and the photo screen on the booth. Well the rehearsal he tells them he can't DJ their wedding because of some kind of problem with another wedding, which was very upsetting to me. The dj he sent , was awful. He didn't play their enttrance music , he messed up names, we wanted a Blessing read and he not only read the wrong one- you couldn't even understand him. When I was to do my welcome speech to our guests he messed that up bigt time! It was like he never did this before. Oh and by the way there was NO NAME IN LIGHTS for my daughter, that we paid for and the wrong color uplightingt as well. He didn't play half of their song choices and when guests when up to request something he always said he didnt have it. So disappoining for the kids who had bonded with John over the year in planning - to just dump them. I have asked for a refund, at least half and was told I would get it in increments. The Seville in Streamwood was where my daughter had her wedding reception, and the DJ / officiant / owner of the company that does the DJing and plans and choreographs the entire wedding from "I do's - Last Dances" was absolutely a lifesaver! He had everything down to the minute and made sure that it flowed perfectly! There were no awkward lapses everything was absolutely awesome! If you are looking for a DJ for your wedding I would stay away from John he is the owner of Alist DJ (so he says) we booked him a year and a half out from our wedding. He sold us on himself making all these promises, invitng us to his office and being very personal with us. We paid off the balance for the highest package you could get before our meeting with John was over. About a year prior to our wedding date I wanted to reach out to John to get the link for the song list request line, the link was going to be attached to our invites. I could not get a hold of John through email or phone for two weeks. Eventually my husband was able to contact John who seemed frustrated that we wanted this (then he shouldn't offer it) Now four months prior to our wedding we tried to get a hold of John again, this time it lasted for a MONTH. We thought he conned us and we were never going to hear from him again. We started to look for a new DJ for our wedding (good luck finding one four months prior to your wedding) Again my husband was able to get a hold of him after trying for WEEKS. My husband asked John where is the communication John responded with I never received an email, phone call or text. My husband verified the email we were emailing and the phone number we were texting and calling with John, John said I don't know why I did not get any of them. WOW is all I can say. Since my husband was able to talk to John they talked about everything for the wedding day including adding a photo booth. My husband paid for the photo booth and attendant over and the phone and John verified it with a text. The day of our wedding the bridal party was introduced incorrectly even though he asked them to be lined up a certain way, he played the WRONG SONG for our FIRST DANCE, there was no photo booth or attendant (we even had a name card for the attendant and paid for that person to eat) the music was a miss all around, I did not know half of the songs played at my wedding because they were dated. We were approached by John throughout the night asking us what he should play even though he and my husband had a conversation regarding the music, he was asked to play current club music. After the wedding the feed back from our friends and family where was the photo booth ? The only thing about your wedding I did not like was the DJ ! It is what it is I can not change that night but you can prevent these things from happening to you by not going through Alist DJs. read more

So when I got engaged a year ago, it was a no brainer - John was hired again. My fiance (now husband) fell in love with A List's enclosed photo booth, so we signed up for that as well. We hired John for our DJ and officiant for our wedding this past Friday (2/13/15). As an officiant, John was absolutely wonderful. He performed the rehearsal at the hall for no extra charge and was very professional and kind. He also gave us the great idea for the candle-lighting/sand ceremony, in which my husband and I each wrote a letter to each other and put them in a box. On our 5th anniversary or if we get into a big fight, we will open the box and read each other's letter. As a DJ, though, he didn't earn the full 5 stars. I did really like the website they use for you to really individualize your day and pick out the songs you want for each part of the ceremony and wedding. However, John did not play 2 of the songs I listed for "special dances", even after my bridesmaid/sister asked him to play one of those songs. He also missed some of the songs I listed under the "love it" and "custom" lists. If I was a picky bride, this probably would have been a bigger deal, but I'm not that picky at all, so not a huge deal. Just not everything I wanted. Even so, he did keep the dance floor packed pretty much the entire night. The photo booth was awesome! I am still waiting to get the email with all of the pictures from it, but I know it was used more than enough to make it worth it. read more

Quite possibly the best decision of my wedding was hiring John from A-List DJs. We recently got married in Punta Cana and at first we were going to attempt to do our own "playlist" since we were unsure about finding and hiring a vendor from another country without meeting them.. my new husband and I love music and luckily a coworker of mine suggested reaching out to this company because her daughter had recently gotten married and the wedding was officiated and DJ'd by John - she raved and raved about it so I figured it was worth a shot..even though I highly doubted anyone would be willing to travel to another country AND be reasonably priced. When I reached out and spoke to John, he went above and beyond in accommodating us (even though I'm about as indecisive as it gets). Not only was this company extremely flexible and attentive to our requests, but John even went out of his way to find out our favorite songs and make us an awesome mix the same day so we had an idea of what to expect. We were sold immediately. His level of professionalism and frequent follow up took a lot off of our plate. We had a very large destination wedding and almost every guest made it a point to tell us how amazing our DJ was-- he has a way of feeling the crowd and playing what gets everyone out on the dance floor-- while still making sure to play all of our important requests. But aside from amazing dance party, John stepped in and basically took over in coordinating our whole wedding day --from helping the guests, bridal party, and even the photographer, know where to be and when...to taking the time to sit down and give advice to my uncle who officiated since he hadn't married anyone before. We had assumed the resort's coordinator would have had this all planned out, but it would have been disastrous without him. If it wasn't for John stepping in and taking over I can't even imagine how unorganized the day would have been. Instead it was absolutely perfect with no hiccups (I heard that doesn't happen)- my husband and I will be forever grateful for everything John did to make sure our special day was unforgettable. John, the owner, was tremendous and friendly. We first met A List DJ's after a recommendation from the Seville where we got married and at an open house at the Seville. We were first introduced to our DJ, Erick, at the event and we clicked immediately. We had a meeting prior to the event and had great communication leading up to everything. Their online form is a great starting spot for music recommendations, details on style of music, and to lead throughout the night. For our first dance, we had 2 friends who sang and played instruments and Erick was able to arrange to have them plug into their sound system and it went perfectly. As a musician myself, and in a room full of professional musicians, I had numerous people come up to us and say how great the music was throughout the evening. From the coffee house covers during dinner, to the live musicians at our first dance, and the dancing music after dinner, everyone LOVED the music! Erick is highly recommended as a DJ as he walked us through everything, and kept us going. Kudos to DJ Erick, John the owner, and EVERYONE at A-List DJs! Got married a few weeks ago. Paid for the biggest package of uplighting and paid for 2 photo booths. Needless to say, the owner John did not bring even 1 up light and brought one photo booth which he set up more than halfway through our reception. When a few of our guests went to request songs to play John replied with words such as " no" "go f*** yourself " and "get out of my face". Me being the bride, I asked him to play music other than country (which i dont listen to at all) and he did not listen to my wishes. There was absolutely NO music during our cocktail hour. We also told him we wanted to do a receiving line which also DIDNT happen. After trying to contact this "DJ" for a whole week and a half after our wedding to talk a few things out, we have heard nothing from him. If I could give negative stars on this review I would. We booked John for our wedding without doing any research behind him or his company first which was a mistake. We booked his biggest package which included a photo booth. A friend of ours also booked him for their wedding and they had issues one week before their wedding with him and they ended up pulling out of their contract and forfeiting their deposit. Next thing I know, John is calling me, mind you this is 9 months before my wedding, saying I had a remainder balance and if I wanted to pay in full today and he would give me 10% off. I kindly declined and started to get nervous about him and his services for my own wedding. Fast for are to two weeks before my wedding. I hadn't heard from him. I was sending multiple emails and he wasn't getting back to me. Finally, he emails me back and says he's out of the country and would get back to me in a few days. I responded with okay well I need to fill out the preferred music forms and I never got them. He writes me back saying to check my original emails from him cause he sent them when we first signed the contract. Well hello! I wouldn't be asking for this if I had it already! Another week goes by.. haven't heard from him. I start calling and texting and he finally gets back to me. Then I realize that the photo booth that was included in my package isn't what I wanted. I wanted a stand alone photo booth. He then tells me it would be another $695 because it requires extra set up and an attendant. I told him I needed to talk to my fiancé about it. Then he sends me this lengthy text that a "local celebrity" asked him to DJ an event on the same day as my wedding and that if I would use another DJ from his company he could do the stand alone photo booth for cheaper. Now at this point we almost want to cancel this contract completely because he obviously doesn't want to DJ our wedding but what were we suppose to do DAYS before our wedding. My husband talks to the other DJ and said he sounds way more professional than John so we go with him and get the stand alone photo booth and which was suppose to include all these props, unlimited photos and a guest book. The day of my wedding comes. There's no attendant for the photo booth. My maid of honor finds the bag of "props" behind the photo booth which was a joke. She put them out but everything was broken and torn so it was basically a waste. But the even bigger waste was that the photo booth didn't even work!!!!! It would not print pictures and it wasn't emailing them to my guests either! The music was okay. The DJ ended up being kind of sloppy with his belly hanging out and he was extremely rude when my bridal party tried talking to him about the broken photo booth. I emailed John about this and he said he was working on getting the pictures printed for me. My response was okay - well how do I get the pictures to all of my guests? And what happened to this great guest book you promised me?! And then I never heard from him ever again. What a waste of money. I still have my family and friends asking if I ever got those pictures. So upsetting. read more

A-List DJ's was suggested by our venue as a good DJ company to work and since we were unfamiliar with what to expect or look for in a DJ, we decided to attend one of their open houses (which they seem to have regularly) in order to check them out. The open house itself seemed somewhat strange. We went to a venue of their choosing and they had a refreshment table set up with wine and beer and a few snacks if I recall correctly. It was oddly reminiscent of something a car dealership would put on to attract customers if you've ever attended one of those events. Then John, the owner, gave a rundown of the packages and equipment options available with some short demos and left with instruction to please come talk to him in the foyer if we had questions about anything or pricing (more later). Next, a handful of DJs shuffled out one by one and introduced a song and demonstrated their individual styles, personalities, etc and tried to woo usand the smattering of 6 or 7 other couples in attendance. During this time we talked to one of the DJs, Pat, whom happened to be the only one that came up to us and just talked to us normally - no shady car dealer-like upsells or pitches, he just kinda talked to us as people - which we liked, and that was ultimately the reason we ended up selecting Pat as our DJ. Once the "DJ Demo" was complete, we were encouraged to hang around and have "another beer or glass of wine on them" and talk to the DJs. We had a few questions concerning some unique qualities of our venue where we had to move from location to location with audio and John handled them well enough and offered us some seemingly random discounts (on the Gold Star package which we were interested in) which he scribbled on a piece of paper and told us to present to the booking lady if we chose to book with them. We couldn't help feel that it was a bit more like buying a car than choosing a DJ - the fact that charges could just be dropped for this reason or that at will by John from the base price that he himself provided. Upon leaving, it seemed readily apparent that we were unprepared to walk in and bargain our way to the best price. Either way we thought, great, we got some "money off" what the package was advertised as and we chalked that up to be a good thing. All seemed well enough and we decided to book Pat as our DJ and signed a contract. The communication initially was prompt, but sometimes the responses were less than what we had hoped. For instance, we had hoped that they could give each of our bridal couples a different introduction song but we found out that that would be an additional $125 which seemed pretty outrageous for less than 5 min of music (we decided not to do that). Later, we also had some questions about the online portal which they utilize to gather all of your event's information, songs, times, transitions, etc and we were told things would be updated on it (I.e our wedding time for instance) shortly and that never got done. Next, we were supposed to have a phone call the Tuesday prior to our Saturday wedding to discuss all of the details (mostly the ones that were never corrected on their end in the first place) and that phone call never came. We tried contacting the owner, John, via phone and email to which we received no response. This is when I (as the bride) went into freak out mode. As it turns out, we eventually received a phone call from our DJ on Wednesday to go through the final details. We're still not really sure why we never received the call when we were told or why our information was never updated in their computer system. But all in all, the day of the event ended up turning out well and we have nothing but good things to say about Pat, our DJ. He was on time, asked the appropriate questions, was a great MC, played music we requested, and helped make many of our transitions seamless. As an example, we spent more time than we had planned greeting guests while they were eating dinner and Pat approached my husband and let him gently know what time it was and approx the time we needed to get bridal party speeches underway to stay on our schedule. He even physically kept track of where everyone who was making speeches was and made an effort to track down any missing speech-givers down. So in a nutshell, we really felt like the employees of A List DJs made up for the somewhat shady and unresponsive management. If it wasn't for Pat's attitude and work ethic, we're not so sure if we could recommend A List DJs. Our advice is to go and talk to the DJs. If there is one you like and trust, you will likely be satisfied. But if you're on the fence, don't be so sure you can count on John. We recommend you go and talk to John and see for yourself and if you're serious about booking with A List, go into it like you're buying a car - be unpredictable, ask hard questions and act like you've talked to 20 other DJs (even if you didn't). read more

The DJ was a nice guy, but the music was a disappointment. The majority of the music we requested he didn't play, although he said he a had it and would play it next. I recommend going else where. read more

5 stars is for the Dj Dale. He was absolutely awesome. Very organized and listened to everything that my husband and I wanted. The company as a whole can work a little better with answer calls and especially returning calls. Other then that no complaints. I highly recommend Alist DJ and especially Dale. John is the best dj you could ever ask for and then more. For my wedding I had hired John as my dj. When we met with him he instantly understood us and what we were looking for. I had mentioned that I was having a hard time finding an officiant that I liked. John ended up officiating our ceremony and it couldn't have been more perfect. He made sure that our soloist sounded amazing with her background music, took care of our cocktail hour music, lighting, photo booth and literally anything else I could've wanted that night. When my maid of honor got engaged he was the first person she called and hired and also agrees that he's the best decision you could make for a wedding vendor. He keeps your dance floor full all night long while handling any other issues that may arise during the night (even when they're technically not his problem). My wedding was just this past weekend and Dale, our DJ, made the night unforgettable! He played a great range of music that pleased all age groups and kept the dance floor filled. John and the rest of the staff were also so helpful when we first met with them to decide what services we were going to go with. We asked Dale to lead a country line dance and since he's from Nashville he was more than happy to! Words cannot express how perfect my wedding was and it would not have been so great without A-List DJs. :) read more

We had Sam as our DJ on Friday and he was amazing! He worked with the hall and photographer to make sure I didn't have to worry about anything. He was informative and continuously made sure we were happy. He played the songs we requested and made sure the small group of people that we had, were enjoying their time. We used A'list DJ's for our wedding in July. We chose Dale as our DJ and we couldn't have been more pleased. He was on top of his game. The ceremony and reception were in two different locations and he was early and ready to go at both locations when needed. He was also checking in on us periodically to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and to let us know what was coming up soon and kept everything on schedule. Along with all of that, he also kept the dance floor full all night. He played all the songs we requested and also knew which ones our guests would enjoy. My wife and I got married on December 29th. We met with John about 9 months before the wedding and we were impressed with his level of professionalism and his presentation. Other than a few minor hiccups with the photo booth, everything went as well as expected. John was on top of every song and speech from the very beginning of the wedding until the last song was played. He was constantly checking in with my wife and myself to make sure we were on the same page and doing things according to our plan. He informed all of our speakers when they were about to give their speeches and was in constant communication with our wedding coordinator to make sure all was going smoothly. I cannot express enough my appreciation for his attention to detail when it came to making our special day go perfectly. He was on time and on the mark all night! Mickey was not only the DJ for our wedding, but one of our close friends weddings. He was on time and professional for both, and truly listened to what we wanted at our weddings. Aside from one song (which was a terrible request by a family member that I HAD to play because i was guilted into it completely) Mickey kept our dance floor packed the entire night with both young kids and the older groups. He is an extremely friendly and nice person, and overall extremely hard working. We have recommended him to all of our friends with weddings coming up.
