As a DJ, Chris is enthusiastic, fun, flexible, creative and just a perfect addition to meaningful events. What's more, as an event vendor, Chris is professional, responsive, thorough and above & beyond in ensuring he meets his clients' needs. He would be an incredible addition to any event and I would wholeheartedly recommend him to any local couples planning their wedding day. Fun story - I booked Chris on just a few hours' notice. The original DJ for my brother & sister-in-law's wedding hadn't confirmed any event timing or details with the couple and was completely unresponsive the morning of the wedding. Not so great. As a bridesmaid & an event planner all I saw were red flags. I jumped in for the poor bride, so she could actually you know, prepare for her day. I found Chris via Yelp and placed a call. A super awkward one in which I had to share that, oh yeah, the date of the wedding was today. Miraculously Chris was free that evening, familiar with the venue and willing to jump in. About 90 minutes later he was loading in and setting up. I had literally texted him song titles for key parts while getting ready and he kept very incomplete and messy information organized and in the correct order for the ceremony. What's more, during the cocktail hour, he took the time to get the bridal party's names correct - down to the pronunciation - for the reception introductions. He also spent time getting to know the couple, and even worked with the bartender to be sure guests of honor were never without a beverage. Finally, his DJing during the reception was incredible! So much fun with the perfect mix of classics, new songs and special requests. At one point he even joined in on the dance floor to keep the party going. It was such a great mix of music and once the dancing got started it continued straight through to the end. I appreciated how attentive he was to details and how seamless it was to work with him in a time crunch. Even having just worked with him for one day, it was so clear he takes time to get to know his clients and how he can create a perfect event for them. He's very much the type of wedding vendor who will make the entire planning process smoother and more fun for couples. A list of why my wedding rocked harder than yours: 1. Our guests were sweating profusely 2. The cake we tediously selected, the key lime tart with chocolate crust, AND the after dinner champagne went untouched on the dinner tables 3. My sorority sisters were shaking their good girls at eye-level to anyone who dared to remain seated 4. Our bridal party was practically fornicating on the dance floor 5. No one wore shoes. Not even flip flops 6. No ghastly group dance numbers that even Grandma shudders at the thought of, were played during the reception 7. My bosses were caught on video shaking their tail feathers (who's looking forward to the company Christmas party this year???) 8. No one wanted to clear the dance floor even for the bouquet toss 9. My book club girls were taking their clothes off 10. Our guests were whipping napkins and scarves around their heads... like helicopters All this awesomness is solely due to the talents of one helluva DJ, Chris Colton. Chris kept the party going with killer music from the second those dinner forks went down, and guests from ages 18-75 were all acting kray until the very last call. Chris played dance music, rock music, and everything else we asked of him. Leading up to the wedding of the year (ahem, that'd be mine), Chris had us fill out a form that covered every basis possible. Definite play list, over my dead body playlist, stop the party for this song, etc. He also had us time out the reception to make sure we stayed on track, and worked with my wedding planner to put together the perfect agenda. Chris also took the time to put together a fantastic montage about our alma mater, Marshall University. We Are... Marshall!!! Hell yeah we numerous grads chanted that, and Chris made it happen. And when my sorority wanted to sing off pitch to Livin' On a Prayer and then stomp on the floor, he made sure that happened too. Chris has really comparable prices to other Chicago DJ's, but I don't think their skill set and enthusiasm can match his. Chris made our wedding a party to remember (and for some, one they want to forget, heh). He's also very accessable, which is so important when a song lightbulbs in your head and you JUST HAVE TO HAVE IT PLAYED! Be good brides and grooms and feed your DJ, give him really exact guidelines for what you envision your wedding to be like, and let him do his thing. Because he does it real freakin' well. read more

If I could give Elite DJs 10 out of 10 stars, I would. They recently DJ'd our wedding in Chicago at the East Bank Club on 9/15/12, and they could not have done a better job. Here are a few specific highlights of their service and our experience: 1) Chris (Owner & DJ) was incredibly thorough throughout the event planning process and made sure every detail was covered; he'll ask you important questions that really matter, that you would never think of otherwise. This is the sign of a true professional with extensive experience.. When the day arrived, Chris was on site early to ensure everything was set up properly and on time. Throughout the night, he kept everything on schedule with perfection and made things run with precision, which made things so much easier on us. 2) Chris asked us where we went to college (Marshall University) and knew that we would have a lot of guests who also went there. He took it upon himself to put together some great sound clips from the movie We Are Marshall (which is very important to anyone who attended this school) and incorporated them into the reception. It was a complete surprise and everyone loved it. I was so impressed that he took the time and effort to incorporate something so unique to us (both me and my wife went there). I honestly don't think any other DJ would've been able to incorporate such creativity. Excellent touch. 3) His music selections for the night were spot on. He truly knows not only what to play, but when to play the right songs that get EVERYONE on the dance floor. As soon as the party portion of the night started, he had the dance floor packed until the last possible minute that night. Also, the musical selections for the cocktail hour and dinner were excellent and catered to both our younger and older guests. Overall, I can't say enough good things about their service and expertise. The DJ is such a vital part of any wedding reception and can make or break an event. Elite DJs definitely MADE ours and then some. I would highly recommend them to anyone. read more

I was looking to have Elite DJs for our wedding but after an extensive phone call going over everything and ending on a great note, I never heard from Chris again. I asked for the follow up information he was supposed to send but never received it. I am a huge fan of good communication, and this was very poor communication. Amy and I called Chris October of 2012 because we wanted him for our wedding October 12, 2013. Our wedding was at the Abbey Resort in Lake Geneva and Chris made it a party we will NEVER forget. Chris is very detailed which you will appreciate as he knows weddings and will remind you of things you may have over looked. He met with us to sign the contract and his personality and energy won us over right away. He gave us a document that details the whole night and made it easy to plan out and not worry. We also purchased a photo booth and up lighting which is a must for any wedding. People from the wedding still are talking about the dance floor that night and wild times in the photo booth! Chris takes pictures while your friends are dancing and took all requests. The dance floor was packed, everything went great all night long! Chris was recommended to me by a co-worker who promised me that he would be the absolute highlight of our wedding reception. He did not disappoint! Our party was AMAZING! We easily had more than 100 people left in the room nearing the end of the night. My husband's nearly 80-year-old grandmother was on the dance floor the entire night, as was the entire bridal party! Chris did an excellent job of following our lists, listening to guest feedback, and reading the room to keep people of all ages happy and moving! He was so professional, friendly, and fun throughout the night. He even came up to my husband and I during cocktail hour and offered to grab us drinks. We had our reception at Eaglewood Resort and Spa and, although unfamiliar with this site, Chris did a great job consulting with staff beforehand in order to make sure everything went smoothly. He was flexible when our cocktail hour was not only moved indoors, but extended to be more of a cocktail 2-hour when our reception pavilion FLOODED! The resort paid Chris to stay to make up for the delay and he was more than accommodating. I cannot say enough great things about Chris!! If I could give 4.5 stars I would. Let me preface this with the fact that John, our DJ, was AMAZING!!! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because in the beginning communication wasn't very great with Chris as far as setting up and signing a contract. Also, based on all the reviews I wanted Chris to be the DJ at our wedding and it was a bit of a surprise when I found out he was already booked and John would be our DJ. I also live in Denver, whereas the wedding was obviously in Chicago. I had to ask for a face to face meeting because our taste in music is a bit different from the average and we weren't following the traditional format of a wedding as their planning form was laid out. As soon as we had the face to face meeting with John I was assured we made the right decision. John was very attentive to our taste in music. He was able to bounce great ideas off of us based on some initial songs and bands we wanted to be played and his passion shined through when we got so excited to learn about a new band (Denver band). He had people dancing all night and went above and beyond his duties. I didn't have a wedding coordinator and John worked very well with the bartenders and caterers to make sure champaigne was served in time for toast and that cake was displayed for the cake cutting or people were ready for the buffet. He even announced when tables can go up to the buffet! Also, we are HUIGE Hawks fans and he was able to incorporate our love of the Hawks into the wedding (our wedding was during the final Stanley cup playoffs round) very tastefully. He provided many different options for guests (also huge Hawks fans) to be aware of what is happening during the game, We changed plans last minute on the game and John was able to roll with it. Elite DJs did an amazing job with our wedding in April 2012 at Randall Oaks Golf and Banquets in West Dundee, IL. Nearly all DJ's in the area were the same price but what differentiated them was the quality. After an initial price inquiry, owner/DJ, Chris Colton, personally called me about the logistics and provided a wedding planner to help us organize our reception. He then took time to meet my wife and I a few weeks before the wedding and finalize the itinerary and make sure he had all the appropriate music selections. We had a few special requests of some more rare and random music from our undergraduate years and Chris found all the music. From the start of cocktail hour to the last song nothing could have went smoother. The music was always at the appropriate level and all events were announced. Everyone at the wedding commented on how great the music was and how organized (and well dressed) the DJ was. People were dancing all evening from start to finish. The ratio and mixing of slow and fast songs was perfect. Chris did a great job of mixing in our "must play" songs along with reading the crowd to play the appropriate songs to get people onto the dance floor. I would recommend Elite DJs for any event and if I am ever in need for a DJ in the Chicago area I will call them first. He is fun, relaxed, easy to work with, and will make sure all of your guests remember your wedding reception as the best dance party they've ever been to. When you plan a wedding you work with many, many vendors and I can easily say that Chris was the best. Honestly, probably my favorite part of our wedding was that the dance floor was hopping ALL NIGHT, and we owe that entirely to Chris. He has the ability to read a crowd and make sure he has just the right song ready to go. Aside from being a great DJ, Chris was also easy to work with. He had some forms that made things easy and organized and he was very accommodating when we wanted to meet with him. He took our requests to heart and worked to make our wedding exactly how we wanted it by making the right announcements and letting us decide on a "must play" and "do not play" list (both my husband and I had seen some DJs at wedding lately who seemed to be making it all about them or came off as cheesy and Chris didn't do either). Elite DJs did our wedding at the Cuneo Mansion earlier in the year. Because of Chris's pre-planning and our face to face meetings prior to our wedding, I had no worries whatsoever about the music or anything else he had to orchestrate. We were able to choose from a catalog of songs as well as choose any other song that we wanted. We gave him a little bit of freedom to choose some songs based on the vibe he was getting from the guests and this also worked out very well. I especially liked how Chris was able to filter out the song requests from the guests that he knew we wouldn't want played on our special day. We really liked when he asked us to provide a list of songs to not ever play. We felt like we were in charge the whole night without even having to say anything to him. He was especially familiar with how weddings are supposed to flow at the Cuneo, which just make things that much easier on us. The dance floor was always full which told us that everyone was having a good time. We recommend DJ Elite for weddings or whatever other event you might need a DJ for.
