Let me share my story with all of you. Thursday, September 15, 2022, at approximately 9:00am, I was driving on route 53 going southbound. Traffic was heavy and as I approached the Palatine road exchange I noticed that the ramp was packed. I was in the right lane and found myself in a situation where the cars coming onto the highway were not yielding the way they should. To avoid being sideswiped, I checked my mirror, saw that there was a truck in the middle lane and had to quickly move over to avoid the car who was not yielding. I was able to move over, felt bad that the truck had to brake but hoped he understood. He did not. The truck moved over to the far left lane, but then chose to hit my car at the back passenger door. The driver pulled to my side and the man behind the wheel either gave me a thumbs up, or the finger and drove off. I was able to pull my camera out and snap a few pictures of the license plate and the logo on the side of the truck. I called the number and spoke to a very nice man who assured me that the owner of the company was a good guy and surely hadn't done this on purpose. Based on his thumbs up, I have to disagree. He swerved his large truck, hit my car, which had my four year old grandson buckled up on the side of the car he chose to hit, and drove off. I asked that he call me back. He has not. Yes, I have filed a police report with the state police, and yes, me having to move into his lane, making him have to brake is absolutely my fault. But Wes Owen's road rage is his fault. He endangered my four year old special needs grandson and left the scene, I'm told to make a motivational speech. I hope it was worth it Wes Owens. You scared a small child and damaged my car because you got mad at the woman who was trying to avoid an accident. If this man comes to your place of business or god forbid your school to motivate your employees or children, please know that he suffers from road rage and a complete lack of grace for others.

The original DJ for my brother & sister-in-law's wedding hadn't confirmed any event timing or details with the couple and was completely unresponsive the morning of the wedding. Not so great. As a bridesmaid & an event planner all I saw were red flags. I jumped in for the poor bride, so she could actually you know, prepare for her day. I found Chris via Yelp and placed a call. A super awkward one in which I had to share that, oh yeah, the date of the wedding was today. Miraculously Chris was free that evening, familiar with the venue and willing to jump in. About 90 minutes later he was loading in and setting up. I had literally texted him song titles for key parts while getting ready and he kept very incomplete and messy information organized and in the correct order for the ceremony. What's more, during the cocktail hour, he took the time to get the bridal party's names correct - down to the pronunciation - for the reception introductions. He also spent time getting to know the couple, and even worked with the bartender to be sure guests of honor were never without a beverage. Finally, his DJing during the reception was incredible! So much fun with the perfect mix of classics, new songs and special requests. At one point he even joined in on the dance floor to keep the party going. It was such a great mix of music and once the dancing got started it continued straight through to the end. I appreciated how attentive he was to details and how seamless it was to work with him in a time crunch. Even having just worked with him for one day, it was so clear he takes time to get to know his clients and how he can create a perfect event for them. He's very much the type of wedding vendor who will make the entire planning process smoother and more fun for couples. The cake we tediously selected, the key lime tart with chocolate crust, AND the after dinner champagne went untouched on the dinner tables 3. Not even flip flops 6. No ghastly group dance numbers that even Grandma shudders at the thought of, were played during the reception 7. My book club girls were taking their clothes off 10. Our guests were whipping napkins and scarves around their heads... like helicopters All this awesomness is solely due to the talents of one helluva DJ, Chris Colton. Chris kept the party going with killer music from the second those dinner forks went down, and guests from ages 18-75 were all acting kray until the very last call. Chris played dance music, rock music, and everything else we asked of him. Leading up to the wedding of the year (ahem, that'd be mine), Chris had us fill out a form that covered every basis possible. Definite play list, over my dead body playlist, stop the party for this song, etc. He also had us time out the reception to make sure we stayed on track, and worked with my wedding planner to put together the perfect agenda. Chris also took the time to put together a fantastic montage about our alma mater, Marshall University. We Are... Marshall!!! Hell yeah we numerous grads chanted that, and Chris made it happen. And when my sorority wanted to sing off pitch to Livin' On a Prayer and then stomp on the floor, he made sure that happened too. Chris has really comparable prices to other Chicago DJ's, but I don't think their skill set and enthusiasm can match his. Chris made our wedding a party to remember (and for some, one they want to forget, heh). He's also very accessable, which is so important when a song lightbulbs in your head and you JUST HAVE TO HAVE IT PLAYED! The crazy part of this planning process is that you start booking everything when they are 10 years old. A 10 year old is a lot different than a 13 year old so trying to find a Emcee that's the right personality fit so early on can be challenging. After meeting with a few different companies I decided Hype was my favorite. They were super organized and responsive, which is a dream for a Type A gal like myself. After some research I had a feeling that Jess King would be a good fit for my daughter so we got on a zoom since meeting in person in the thick of covid wasn't an option. Jess was super cute and bubbly and my daughter felt at ease chatting with her. While I had no idea if Jess would still be a good fit for her 2.5 years later we signed a contract and hoped for the best. Hype is one of the larger entertainment companies in the area so you can get way more than a DJ/dancers from them. We added on the following: - live instruments (dummer, guitarist, saxophonist): they were also supposed to play outside when people walked in, but it ended up being too chilly of a night. However, it was great having them play along with the DJ - 360 Boomerang Photo booth Experience: a huge hit and something different from the typical photo booths - VRX Station: 1 year+ before the party my daughter insisted on a skiing VR game to go with her winter theme. While some kids seemed to enjoy it, Hype did such a great job keeping the kids on the dance floor that we could have probably gone without this. - Roaming Digital Photo Station: fun way for guests to capture images of themselves at the party and send directly to their phones. - Jam Box Interactive Games for the cocktail hour: They didn't end up using this since my daughter had so many speeches, but i love the idea of bringing in games for a boys party when there usually aren't as many speeches. - Cyro blast finale: my first thought was that it was expensive for a glorified fire extinguisher, but my daughter was having the time of her life spraying everyone and it made for some pretty awesome pics. - Light up staging & uplights: worked perfectly with all our beautiful decor Jazmine (owner) and Renea (office manager) were so on top of everything throughout the process that I never needed to worry about anything. And Jess certainly delivered the night of the party as well; she was a bundle of energy! A few days before the party we had a final call with Jess and she was sick with a bad cold. I had a slight freakout that we weren't going to have an Emcee, but my planner reminded me this was one of the benefits of going with a big company like Hype. If Jess was sick there would be a backup and while we wanted Jess that's certainly better than no Emcee. Fortunately, Jess recovered just in time! My son is 10 and we're starting to plan his bar mitzvah next. He prefers to have a male Emcee so we recently met with Rob from Hype, who was also a dancer at my daughter's bat mitzvah. He wow'd us as much as Jess did with his sparkling personality. While I can't speak for all their Emcees, I'm super impressed with this company overall and think both Jess and Rob are amazing Emcee choices.
