How have I never gone to this salon despite being in BK for 3 years now? Got my hair done with Lucille to get a cut and an up do before a big event. Prices for hair cuts are generally $45 - $50. This is very good for NY salons and the quality of cut she does. Lucille has been doing hair fro 37 years. She was so friendly, listened to what I was looking to do with my hair, made a few suggestions for cutting it while still keeping the length, and did a hands down amazing job for the up do. The place has the "old Brooklyn" vibe. Despite being quite an introvert, I loved the banter between the clientele and the owners / employees. It really is a piece of real Brooklyn. !! I love this salon, the owners, and stylists. It's a Brooklyn gem. I have been getting my hair cut by Anne Marie for 13 years. Anthony mixes my color. The atmosphere is like home. They did my hair and my bridesmaid's hair for my wedding. Plus my mom's hair. I have since moved from Carroll Gardens to Park Slope and I still very loyally return. I think the entire staff was born and raised in the neighborhood, so I love shooting the breeze and hearing about the old days. I get my hair cut there, I get color, and I have had them do my make-up for special events. They don't make em like this anymore. Love the Chic! read more

I just moved to NY from LA and was looking for an affordable haircut in my neighborhood, and I couldn't seem to find anything under $85 for a simple cut. (Moving ain't cheap, y'all.) I called Chic Elegance at 12:30 on a Saturday to see if they could fit me in, and they luckily could give me a appointment within the hour with Lucille. I walked in and was welcomed so warmly! It was like going to see your favorite aunts; they're super real and direct, but very kind. I got a great wash, cut, and dry for $45, and when I walked out the door they made sure to tell me if I needed anything while I settle in, they all have my back. It's clearly a community place where everyone knows each other and they care about each other. It was a lovely experience and I couldn't be happier with it. (Worth noting that it's cash-only! There's an ATM at the bodega across the street that they'll direct you to if you forget.) read more

Short version: Anthony is exceptional. Understands hair. Gave me a terrific cut. Clean, friendly salon. Very reasonable prices. Good people. Pleasant environment. Long version: 10am last Tuesday morning I arrived at my usual salon to find out that the woman who has been cutting my hair for years called in sick. I had 2 somewhat formal events relating to my son finishing up the 4th grade that day and desperately had to get a haircut. A quick visit to Yelp and I realized most salons are either closed until noon or booked solid. Anthony at Chic Elegance was also booked solid for the day but he heard the desperation in my voice and kindly said I could head right over & he'd take care of me. It's a very clean, professional and very comfortable salon. Anthony's wife Nancy manages the appointments & I loved the feeling of the place. While I waited I enjoyed a coffee from next door at D'Amico's and grabbed a quick manicure across the street. Chic has a very experienced nail technician who just happens to be off on Tuesdays. I'll get my nails done there next time. The Cut (!) I'm of the mind that hair, well, it grows back, so I'm never too worried about a bad cut. I figured I'd get tidy and blown out and be happy. Instead I got a haircut that not only looked good walking out but also at home when I washed it. I realized that he'd addressed my overly thick curls in the back so intelligently! The man knows hair. He's really very good. The blowout was fantastic. He uses the brushes expertly to leave the hair straight but with life, a good bounce & a playful long curl here & there. I have been getting manicures and pedicures by Ada for several years. She is truly the best - precise and takes her time. She speaks perfect English as well and has great suggestions for how to strengthen your nails. It's not like the manicure mills you see everywhere. Best to make an appointment, usually there's no waiting when you do. The atmosphere at Chic is fun too - I love listening to the staff from the old neighborhood. Ada is the BEST WAXER you'll find in South Brooklyn. Trust me, I've been to a lot of waxers in South Brooklyn... She does it all: bikini, brows, legs, mustaches, etc. She's fast, clean, gentle and just all around pro. I will go anywhere Ada goes. She also gives a terrific mani-pedi. Prices are right - brows are around $7, lower legs are $15. Mani-pedi is under $20 if I remember correctly. The salon is great, too. The awesome neighborhood italian ladies getting their blowouts and gossiping about their kids. Fun times. read more

I used to live nearby, now I go out of my way to get there. Anthony is an amazing stylist but everyone there is quite good. The place doesn't have a lot of frills which is a-ok. That helps keep the cost so reasonable. read more

Guess a blow out is something that one must explain to a hair stylist ....even after she blow dried my hair and I kept telling her what I wanted she persisted to do a horrible job...basically half ass curled my hair with a curling iron ..and by the time I walked one block my hair was no longer curled...the only thing good about this place is threading lady...and the last time I was their the entire staff was talking about Muslims and terrorism in front and openly without having any regard for customers being in there shop...such a sad place must be why it's cheap .... read more

I have lived in this neighborhood 20 years but this is the first time I've ever ventured into this salon. The owner was very personable and took time to explain the particular hair that I have (very straight) and the types of cuts that would be best for my lifestyle. (I'm a mom and I prefer not to get into blow drying or curling irons. I like to wash my hair, comb it and let it air dry.) For the attentive service I received the price was very reasonable, and in the end I really liked the cut. I walked in with my hair looking bedraggled and unhealthy and I walked out with a shiney, bouncy cut that framed my face beautifully. read more
