She has that kind of effortless confidence that only comes from decades of experience. Her cuts are consistently flattering and polished, and the highlights and lowlights she recently gave me were gorgeous. I walked out of the salon feeling proud to be 51 and like a million bucks. Stella is just as wonderful. She's done my brows, pedicures, and the occasional facial. I love that the nail services are done in a private back room. It's calm and quiet and allows me to relax. We went in for my daughter's trim this morning. This is our first time here and we booked online for a child's long haircut, posted for $45. We had shown a photo, the entire process from wash to finish was 25 mins. Her hair was barely trimmed. Upon paying, they spoke in another language for 2 mins. One of the owners also asked my 5ft tall child how old she is. She's 10. We were charged $63.00 without any explanation except that my daughter is tall & has "adult hair." We paid our price and tipped 20% but will never return because the replies and smile and nod without speaking is the most dismissive behavior anyone can give to customers. read more

During the consultation she projected such ease and confidence that I found myself confessing to her my unhappiness about the way my hair had been previously colored (in a different salon) in what is known as grey blending. She immediately understood what I meant and made a suggestion to remedy the situation. She even took the time to try the solution on a strand of my hair. The result was so convincing that I eventually asked her to please treat my entire head and do the haircut as well. Both my husband and I both get all our haircuts here and have referred many friends who are likewise loyal to the very talented Tanya, who's been our go-to stylist now for years. My husband gets a pretty consistent and traditional men's cut, just varying slightly at times in length. I go back and forth between maintenance of long, straight hair to very short, chin-length, layered styles. He always returns here for the same reason I and friends do: whatever the cut, it starts great and somehow magically remains terrific even when it grows out. At every stage it looks like that was the intended length, which is an experience that I've never had with other stylists, even when I splurged at three very high-end salons long ago. So there's no urgency to get another cut very soon because you keep looking so good. A real benefit if you're on a budget but the rates are so crazy reasonable (especially for this area) that there's no reason not to get more regularly timed cuts than I usually manage. Hours are good for 9-5ers and it's easy to book online. I've never had coloring or other salon services there (which I guess speaks to the thankfully low-sales-pressure environment) so can't speak to those. And it's not fancy-looking by any means, strictly utilitarian. But it's super high quality service and a reliably fantastic haircut. read more

Esther, has been doing my haircuts, dye jobs you name it. She is very professional and listens to what you say and want. Esther was one of the only people to give me a hair color that didn't turn my hair orange. You see I have grey hairs that are very strong and if not colored correctly they will turn. She explained that my natural color has red in it so there are chemical reactions and not to worry she knew how to take care of it. If you go to her she will explain in detail what she can and can not do. Esther, unfortunately, has moved so I don't get to see her often. But I'm never disappointed. I've been going to Smart Hair Studio for the past 2.5 years and have had excellent experience every single time. I'm kicking myself that I haven't written a review yet. I typically work with the owner, Angela, but I've worked with multiple stylists and they are all lovely. I'm always so happy with the cut and color; it's exactly what I ask for every time. In addition, over the past three years I've been dealing with postpartum hair regrowth, then another pregnancy, followed by hair loss, and then more regrowth. Angela has been such a great resource, helping me to navigate what to do about having my hair at multiple lengths with lots of fly-aways. At my appointment over the summer, she gave me a keratin treatment on just my bangs so that I could style the short front pieces with more ease. Angela and the rest of the stylists are so, so warm and create such a welcoming environment. It's always a cozy and relaxing experience. Lastly, it's incredibly affordable, especially considering they know how to provide more current, trendy styles. I can't recommend smart hair studio enough! read more

I should've gotten my hair cut before quarantine started in March, but didn't and then had to wait until mid-July for a cut. My hair is extremely thick, long, and heavy, so it's really been a bummer during these hot summer months. So as soon as it felt safe enough, I booked this appointment based on the great Yelp reviews and crossed my fingers, knowing that even if I didn't love the cut at least I'd have less hair. To start, the salon was very clean and followed all safety protocols. And then, Tanya gave me the best haircut of my life. I booked an appointment online in the morning for 3pm. This is located in a quiet section near Prospect Park. I walked in on a Wednesday afternoon around 2:45pm. I was greet by everyone; cute little place. Stella, who was recommended to me via friends, tend to me for a wax. She explained the procedure to me, and then stated that she doesn't double dip. You feel relaxed here due to the friendly vibe that everyone gives off. Quick and simple. I picked the sensitive version because I did not wanted to be in pain for the rest of the day. Afterwards, she used the tweezers (which she sprayed with alcohol to disinfect) to take out the short hairs. Powdered up and I was good to go. Overall appointment lasted 10 minutes. Don't forget to tip. They do charge tax at the end. read more

I highly recommend this salon! It's Brooklyn's secret hidden gem. I almost don't want to share it and keep it for myself. lol. The staff is lovely, knowledgeable and precise in their passions. I always leave feeling amazing on the outside and inside as well. Due to their kindness, customer service and expertise. I've had my hair cut, colored and styled by the entire staff. They are all excellent and have their own unique magic touch. I most recently went out of my comfort zone and experimented with their tape in extensions. Thankfully, I have a lot of hair, so they only added a few pieces. The experience was so much easier than I imagined. The glue that was used had no smell (non toxic) which is a mega plus for me. Not a lot of glue is used. It's a very simple process. The extensions blended so well with my hair. It looks completely natural! I've had the extensions in for about three weeks now. The maintenance has been very easy. I wash and style my hair as normal. I forget I have the extensions in my hair at times and pull them by accident. All in all, I recommend this service if you're interested for the holidays or want to have the experience of longer or fuller hair. Went here after researching different hair salons in the area. This one seemed the most reasonably priced and the most professional, with a very easy to use/ helpful website. Me and my boyfriend both needed haircuts on short notice, and they were able to accommodate both of us! Marianna did an awesome job on both of our haircuts and knew exactly what we wanted. Im always worried getting my hair done at a new salon because it is so long, but it came out wonderful. My boyfriends hair is relatively long as well but it also came out perfect. Made a second appointment a couple months back- didn't end up going and probably not going back after this experience. I made a appointment for weekday when they close at 9pm (my appointment was at 8). I called around 7 letting them know that I may run about 10-15 minutes late. The girl on the phone said "absolutely not.. your appointment is the last of the day so you cannot be late". I understand that but was that really necessary? She then continues with "you should make another appointment". I told her that if the salon closes at 9, surely my haircut wouldn't take the full hour. She said "yes it will". My cut didn't take an hour last time. I told her that I would try my best. I rushed and ran and around 7:30, realized that I definitely need to be 10-15 late so I called to let them know. My stylist picked up this time and said "lets reschedule". At this point, I've made up my mind to never go back, regardless of how much I liked my last haircut. I feel that if someone is not willing to stay an extra 15 minutes (if the haircut takes a full hour), maybe it's not worth it for me to commit to this place. She gave me a great/ cool haircut, and the color looks totally natural.
