This small business is owned by a very lovely woman, Angela. She is a dedicated, hard worker that genuinely cares about every client that walks in/out through her door whether with a good or bad experience. She will not allow any clients to leave with any bad energy. She's a good soul indeed. You will no doubt leave feeling invigorated by any service Angela or her staff provide. read more

I've been coming to Smart Hair Studio in Windsor Terrace since the pandemic, and I can't say enough good things about this little neighborhood gem. Angela is my go-to for hair. She has that kind of effortless confidence that only comes from decades of experience. Her cuts are consistently flattering and polished, and the highlights and lowlights she recently gave me were gorgeous. I walked out of the salon feeling proud to be 51 and like a million bucks. Stella is just as wonderful. She's done my brows, pedicures, and the occasional facial. I love that the nail services are done in a private back room. It's calm and quiet and allows me to relax. She's also just a joy to chat with. That said, Angela and Stella are part of a whole team of talented, hardworking stylists. The vibe in the salon is friendly, collaborative, and always buzzing. The space is small but full of energy, and it feels like a true community hub--with clients of all ages coming in for cuts, color, keratin treatments, brows, facials, nails, and more. It's worth noting they only accept cash or personal checks, so come prepared. But you'll be well taken care of once you're in the chair. Smart Hair Studio is warm, skilled, and refreshingly unpretentious--everything a neighborhood salon should be. read more

I love this place and am kicking myself for not having discovered it sooner. I've been coming here for two years now, and every stylist I've seen has executed perfectly. I've seen co-owner Tanya for precision cuts and expert, organic, amonia-free color (the richest, shinest browns), co-owner Angela for Cezanne keratin (the only keratin that has ever worked for me and lasts 6+ months), and stylist Esther for impeccable cuts. The prices are a steal compared to other salons in the city and neighboring competitors. Each stylist seems to know intuitively just what my hair needs, and I leave with a literal weight off my shoulders and a style that lasts for days every time. read more

We went in for my daughter's trim this morning. This is our first time here and we booked online for a child's long haircut, posted for $45. We had shown a photo, the entire process from wash to finish was 25 mins. Her hair was barely trimmed. Upon paying, they spoke in another language for 2 mins. One of the owners also asked my 5ft tall child how old she is. She's 10. We were charged $63.00 without any explanation except that my daughter is tall & has "adult hair." We paid our price and tipped 20% but will never return because the replies and smile and nod without speaking is the most dismissive behavior anyone can give to customers. read more

I made a reservation with Angela for a hair cut. During the consultation she projected such ease and confidence that I found myself confessing to her my unhappiness about the way my hair had been previously colored (in a different salon) in what is known as grey blending. She immediately understood what I meant and made a suggestion to remedy the situation. She even took the time to try the solution on a strand of my hair. The result was so convincing that I eventually asked her to please treat my entire head and do the haircut as well. An hour later I left the salon feeling very happy about my nice natural looking grey hair and a wonderful new haircut. 5 stars for sure! Highly recommended read more

It's so hard for me to trust hair stylists!! But Ashley is so good and fast. She made me feel comfortable and made sure to do what I asked for. Her personality is great too so that just made the visit so much better. Stella always did an amazing job with my lash lift and eyebrows. Love this salon and the prices are great. read more

Smart Hair Studio - Loved my haircut by Ashley, she has skills!!! Such a fun personality too. Made me feel super comfortable - Hair Salons Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I've had my hair cut and colored by Esther several times. Esther is wonderful and extremely thoughtful with color and cuts. My hair was roughly three colors during our first visit after years of different salons and DIYs. Esther corrected my hair to a natural-looking brown with highlights and lowlights, which made my salt-and-pepper hair look like it did when I was 24. Highly recommend. read more

I have been going to this salon for years. I have moved out of the neighborhood but still come back because they do such a great job. Tanya cuts my hair and she always seems to know what I need done, even when I don't know what I want. I go to Stella for my eyebrows every few weeks and I am always amazed at how great they look. The atmosphere is the salon is always friendly and welcoming. I enjoy being there read more

I came here this past weekend for the pro addiction hair protein treatment! My hair came out so beautiful, straight and shiny! Esther had done my hair and she did such an amazing job along with her staff who helped. Overall they have such good customer service. They kept asking me if I needed water or snacks and just made sure I was good throughout the process. All I can say is that I am truly impressed, such genuine kind hardworking people that work there. I will be back for my touch up :) read more

I always leave Smart Hair feeling like a million bucks! Tanya, Angela and Mariana never disappoint with cut, color and style. Stella is awesome with her facials, eyebrow tinting , threading and mani/pedi. Her gel French manicure is my favorite! This crew never disappoints! read more

Great haircut and colorist Easy online booking. Marianna was great w matching and improving the color.

This place is amazing. Incredibly talented and friendly stylists and great prices! I've gotten my hair cut here a few times and have always been happy with the results. I decided it was time for a more dramatic change and went for a shorter bob with an under cut and dark burgundy demi permanent dye. Tanya did a wonderful job and took time to give me tips on how to wash, dry, and use product on the style. I'm really happy with my new look and will definitely be back. read more

I recently booked a blowout with Angela for a special event. My first visit to this salon. I loved how it looked. I decided to do both a cut and blowout this time. Angela is a master!! She explained everything before proceeding and continued to ask me questions along the way. I felt heard, and the end result was beautiful. I will continue to book all my hair needs with Angela. All the team is lovely too and their salon has a great vibe! Give it a try. Highly recommend. read more

I've had a lot of keratin treatments in my life, but none have lasted longer than the treatments I get here! Marianna is so incredibly meticulous and makes sure every strand gets treated. She also gives great haircuts! Very reasonably priced and always a wonderful experience :) read more

Awesome job! I had my first professional haircut in almost two years. I had a pretty good foundation, despite having cut my own hair during the lockdown and subsequent hesitation to be in small, enclosed spaces, but Tanya went above and beyond. She intuitively understood the look I was going for, and got it right immediately. Usually I have to go home and style my hair the way I want it, but I walked out of the salon already done! I'm so glad I found this salon and I will be back! Thank you, Tanya! read more

Marianna did an awesome job with my unruly hair. I have a great cut now easy to handle. She also colored and toned my hair a perfect caramel warm color. Very sweet atmosphere and the prices are not crazy high. Will be back for sure! read more

Both my husband and I both get all our haircuts here and have referred many friends who are likewise loyal to the very talented Tanya, who's been our go-to stylist now for years. My husband gets a pretty consistent and traditional men's cut, just varying slightly at times in length. I go back and forth between maintenance of long, straight hair to very short, chin-length, layered styles. He always returns here for the same reason I and friends do: whatever the cut, it starts great and somehow magically remains terrific even when it grows out. At every stage it looks like that was the intended length, which is an experience that I've never had with other stylists, even when I splurged at three very high-end salons long ago. So there's no urgency to get another cut very soon because you keep looking so good. A real benefit if you're on a budget but the rates are so crazy reasonable (especially for this area) that there's no reason not to get more regularly timed cuts than I usually manage. Hours are good for 9-5ers and it's easy to book online. I've never had coloring or other salon services there (which I guess speaks to the thankfully low-sales-pressure environment) so can't speak to those. And it's not fancy-looking by any means, strictly utilitarian. But it's super high quality service and a reliably fantastic haircut. read more

Esther, has been doing my haircuts, dye jobs you name it. She is very professional and listens to what you say and want. Esther was one of the only people to give me a hair color that didn't turn my hair orange. You see I have grey hairs that are very strong and if not colored correctly they will turn. She explained that my natural color has red in it so there are chemical reactions and not to worry she knew how to take care of it. If you go to her she will explain in detail what she can and can not do. Esther, unfortunately, has moved so I don't get to see her often. But I'm never disappointed. She recently did a Brazilian hair treatment on me and my hair is silky smooth, and Shiny. Go see her you will not be disappointed. read more

I recently got my hair done by Marianna and I am so impressed with the results! I got a touch up on a balayage and half a head of highlights. She did such a wonderful job and matched the hair color perfectly to my eyes! Despite the fact that the salon was busy, she took her time and gave me an extremely high quality job. I would recommend Marianna and Smart Hair Studio to all of my friends and family for their excellent services and kind staff. read more

Perfect. Marianna gave me exactly the cut I wanted. It looks fantastic, it's a good price, and it took very little time. I'll definitely be back. So glad to have found this place! FYI the only thing is that they don't take credit cards so bring cash! read more

I got the haircut that I wanted. My hair was shoulder length and I asked for a bob with bangs and undercut. My stylist was friendly and quick. The cut cost $65. The only thing is the undercut is uneven on each side of my head, I guess I should've checked the part myself with an extra mirror before she started shaving hair off. read more

I've been in to see Angela twice, first for a color (just the roots, please!) and a cut. Both were great, this is definitely an under the radar local shop, but all the ladies in there are just lovely, prices are decent (cash only! make sure you come armed) and they don't leave you for hours on end waiting waiting waiting for a hair miracle to come. I've thought about coming back for other things (nails, waxing) but just haven't made it yet. Something to think about! Support local business! Check out Smart Hair Studio! read more

I booked an appointment online in the morning for 3pm. This is located in a quiet section near Prospect Park. I walked in on a Wednesday afternoon around 2:45pm. I was greet by everyone; cute little place. Stella, who was recommended to me via friends, tend to me for a wax. She explained the procedure to me, and then stated that she doesn't double dip. You feel relaxed here due to the friendly vibe that everyone gives off. Quick and simple. I picked the sensitive version because I did not wanted to be in pain for the rest of the day. Afterwards, she used the tweezers (which she sprayed with alcohol to disinfect) to take out the short hairs. Powdered up and I was good to go. Overall appointment lasted 10 minutes. Don't forget to tip. They do charge tax at the end. read more

I should've gotten my hair cut before quarantine started in March, but didn't and then had to wait until mid-July for a cut. My hair is extremely thick, long, and heavy, so it's really been a bummer during these hot summer months. So as soon as it felt safe enough, I booked this appointment based on the great Yelp reviews and crossed my fingers, knowing that even if I didn't love the cut at least I'd have less hair. To start, the salon was very clean and followed all safety protocols. And then, Tanya gave me the best haircut of my life. She asked what I wanted and explained her plan beforehand and was lovely to talk to throughout the appt. My hair feels so much lighter and looks so healthy! I'm in love with my cut, which she said should be good for 3-4 months. Will definitely be coming back at that point! read more

I got my first perm ever done here in September and I just realized that I never wrote a review. I loved what Angela did! I was thinking about going to a big name salon in Manhattan to get the American wave or beach wave perm and they were looking pricey, so I went on yelp to look up salons that did perms in Brooklyn and this place came up. I was nervous, brought a bunch of pictures and I loved it! I'm just gearing up to go in to get it redone. I'll be in soon! read more

I've been going to Smart Hair Studio for the past 2.5 years and have had excellent experience every single time. I'm kicking myself that I haven't written a review yet. I typically work with the owner, Angela, but I've worked with multiple stylists and they are all lovely. I'm always so happy with the cut and color; it's exactly what I ask for every time. In addition, over the past three years I've been dealing with postpartum hair regrowth, then another pregnancy, followed by hair loss, and then more regrowth. Angela has been such a great resource, helping me to navigate what to do about having my hair at multiple lengths with lots of fly-aways. At my appointment over the summer, she gave me a keratin treatment on just my bangs so that I could style the short front pieces with more ease. Angela and the rest of the stylists are so, so warm and create such a welcoming environment. It's always a cozy and relaxing experience. Lastly, it's incredibly affordable, especially considering they know how to provide more current, trendy styles. I can't recommend smart hair studio enough! read more

Went for a blow out with an apprentice. Terrible I am sorry to say! I could have done a way better job. It was just a hair blow out. I thought it was going wrong when I saw her use such huge round brushes on my fine hair but figured she must know what she was doing! I was sadly mistaken! I went back to my Asian place on avenue u for 13 dollars instead - wayyy better there! They also neglected to mention when I made my first ever appointment that they only accept cash!!! I highly recommend this salon! It's Brooklyn's secret hidden gem. I almost don't want to share it and keep it for myself. lol. The staff is lovely, knowledgeable and precise in their passions. I always leave feeling amazing on the outside and inside as well. Due to their kindness, customer service and expertise. I've had my hair cut, colored and styled by the entire staff. They are all excellent and have their own unique magic touch. I most recently went out of my comfort zone and experimented with their tape in extensions. Thankfully, I have a lot of hair, so they only added a few pieces. The experience was so much easier than I imagined. The glue that was used had no smell (non toxic) which is a mega plus for me. Not a lot of glue is used. It's a very simple process. The extensions blended so well with my hair. It looks completely natural! I've had the extensions in for about three weeks now. The maintenance has been very easy. I wash and style my hair as normal. I forget I have the extensions in my hair at times and pull them by accident. All in all, I recommend this service if you're interested for the holidays or want to have the experience of longer or fuller hair. It's also great for adding dimension or highlights without having to color your hair. Either way, you will not regret it. You will look fabulous honaayyy! So book it and enjoy! read more

Went here after researching different hair salons in the area. This one seemed the most reasonably priced and the most professional, with a very easy to use/ helpful website. Me and my boyfriend both needed haircuts on short notice, and they were able to accommodate both of us! Marianna did an awesome job on both of our haircuts and knew exactly what we wanted. Im always worried getting my hair done at a new salon because it is so long, but it came out wonderful. My boyfriends hair is relatively long as well but it also came out perfect. All of the staff were super friendly as well. Will definitely be coming back! read more
