I've been going to Brooklyn Herborium since 2015. I can only manage to get there every other year for some reason, even though they make scheduling pretty easy. I've been to both the Red Hook location and Windsor Terrace. I've been to other places like Red Door, Pratima, and D'Mai and much prefer Brooklyn Herborium. The staff and facialists are welcoming and friendly at both locations. They make all their own masks, oils, sprays, etc. from natural ingredients; all of which they use in the facials. They spend time asking about your skincare routine and offer suggestions, but it's never pushy or salesy. I love the hot stones placed under your shoulder blades midway through the facial and the neck massage. My skin is always very grateful for this treatment. It's a lovely, no frills, local place that I hope stays around for a long time. read more

I had the most incredible experience with Emma this past Tuesday. I have never been to an esthetician who was so detailed from the actual facial and taking the time to ask about my skin care routine and my diet! Even after the facial she went over everything again with especially the foods that I am in taking and how they are affecting my skin. She even researched the line I used currently and my the studio I used to go to and explained how she approaches skin care and how they approach it. Being In the beauty industry myself I truly appreciate an experience and was next level. I have now found a new home to get facials and I am obsessed with her skin care line as well! I had a wonderful facial with Emma this afternoon! After turning 30 I started to be more concerned with aging and my skin, but I also have no idea what to do. Emma helped me understand what services to do and how often to do them. She also helped me understand what products I need and gave me clear information how to take care of my skin. She even helped me understand how food affects my skin and what I can do to eat better for my skin! I did a level 3 facial and am in love with my new products. They make everything in house and I got to walk through their workshop and meet their team. Everyone was really lovely :) It's the first place I felt comfortable to ask all the questions about my skin and what it needs. There was no judgement! I first went to Brooklyn Herborium in February 2021. I was looking for a new place to get facials because my facialist in California was moving away. I stumbled upon the shop in my neighborhood and had no idea it would change my life. I had a facial/consultation with Emma, and ended up scrapping my (many!) expensive skin products, products I'd changed and struggled with over the last 15 years of my life (I'm 31) in exchange for the homemade, truly miracle products that they make at BH. What's so amazing about getting a facial at BH is not just the incredible, soothing, skin-changing experience (there are crystals and mist and all of it!), but the fact that they go through your whole schedule, eating habits, sleeping habits, anxiety, products, etc to give you a plan that takes into account your body as a whole, and the way that affects your skin. It's the healthcare and attention I've always longed for and has absolutely changed my life. After ditching my products and committing fully to Emma's plan for my skin, I have completely transformed. And I feel so much less tethered to products. I'm actually listening to my skin and body and adjusting as necessary. I only wash my face with water now (I was an obsessive face-washer with chemicals, etc) except for using their masks 1-2 times a week, and don't moisturize at night. In the morning, I moisturize with the oil-mist combo. (But they will craft a plan that's great for you). About 8 months later, my skin had become fully "healthy" so now we've graduated into helping heal old problems. They even make tea that helps with hormonal regulation and for breakouts all around your face. I truly could not recommend Brooklyn Herborium more. They have products not just for your face but for all elements of your life and every single one is lovely. Every person in there is helpful and kind. I go back for facials 2-3 times a year and every time it has a lasting effect. If you want to change your life and be less beholden to products, etc, or if you just want a soothing, holistic experience, book your appointment as soon as possible! read more

I've been a Brooklyn Herborium client for three years, and today was my first visit to their new Windsor Terrace location for a phototherapy session. The new shop is just as dreamy as the Red Hook location, with lots more space for a nice pantry of wholesome food, housewares, and gift items -- most sourced locally, responsibly, or from women-owned businesses. I first came to Brooklyn Herborium as a new mamma, struggling with terrible, TERRIBLE acne, after having stopped all dermatologist-prescribed drugs whilst pregnant and then breastfeeding. My skin was out of control, and Emma was the person who finally (after a lot of work on her part AND my part) helped guide me to a better place...naturally! Emma is amazing -- she is incredibly knowledgeable, dedicated to her craft, warm, and empathetic. Her consultations and treatments are thorough -- advice on daily/weekly skincare regiments and nutritional guidance to correct the metabolic issues. When my skin didn't immediately respond to treatment, she created special skin care products specifically for me to help kickstart the healing and coached me on nutritional changes that were hard to make.... but ultimately worked. It's the emotional support, as much as the products and services that really make this place so special. I still have a few issues to work on, but my skin is so much better now. And bonus that today's phototherapy session ended with a super relaxing facial point stimulation -- I almost fell asleep it was so good. On this day, Sarah was assigned to do my treatment. The treatment journey begins with a lush warm bed that you climb into, tucked into organic cotton sheets. The lights are dimmed and soft plucking strings play a folksy tune as you embark...Sarah enters the room and greets you with a smile. She asks you about your skin and what products you are using now. The moment of truth as your eyes are shielded from the glare of her magnified lens. She sees what you are talking about and has solutions. A creamy product is massaged gently onto the skin and a tingling happy feeling begins from the top of your head to your toes. Your first line of defense revealed as the product warms and softens, gently breaking down barriers that held you back. The music changes to a distant chanting...you hear the tingle of bells ring as customers are coming into the general store. You are inside the womb now, not born yet-swimming in a safe place. Sarah talks to you gently about what is at the core of Emma's philosophy and how it works. You nod in and out, half listening to her lullaby/lecture and respond between long breaths as you go deeper into relaxing under the soft pressure of shoulders and neck being massaged with hot stones that she tucks under your shoulder blades. Ahhhh! the herbal steam caresses your face while she massages in small circles to loosen and open your pores. She phases into extractions that are thorough, coaxing your pores to surrender. At no point do you wince or tense during this intense and necessary procedure. This is followed by more neck and shoulder massage to soothe your beating heart. A mask, another facial massage..time stops. In and out of a twilight sleep after the warm towel is removed along with a kelp infused clay mask. Your skin feels like silk and you think it is coming to a close. Not yet! The finale, gliding facial wands touching over pressure points on the face, melts away all tension in the facial muscles. During this final phase, you are completely one with universal love of all beings everywhere! As this comes to a close, she asks me to breath in an option of mineral mists, and says 'your nose knows'. I chose a subtle rose aroma that she blended with a bright aromatic oil to form a customized moisturizer. I floated out of the treatment room and drank more of that comforting tea, sank into a fluffy armchair. Sarah printed out a booklet to guide me through the process, talked to me about what she did and how to benefit from at-home care and changes in my diet. She was thorough without judgments and we giggled and laughed together. I was glowing when I left. I recommend Sarah who is attentive, who will nurture you and erase all doubts and tension from the hefty price tag on your health which is non negotiable. This review has been a long time coming but I unfortunately haven't been able to until today. I suffer from rosacea and constant Flushing. Since discovering Brooklyn Herborium I've had two facial with Emma who is one of the kindest people I've ever met and boy does she know her stuff. She takes the time to get know you and your symptoms and gives a comprehensive inner treatment to go along with you topical regimen which I promise you will improve you skin beyond belief. I cant imagine going without my see no evil oil. Her prices are not that high in comparison with other places. you will notice that it is actually not that much in retrospective for all the time and care she puts into her customers turn into friends.
