Simply put, I don't like this restaurant. Their food is subpar. I doubt they will be around long... every other burger chain in their price range that I've tried is miles ahead of this place. The staff was nice and friendly and my order was accurate, so I'm not giving them a bad review based off of a bad experience with the service ... the food just isn't good. First, their chocolate cake was doughy. Like it wasn't baked all the way through. Their cheese fries were a joke ... they give you a tiny cup of cheese with the fries and the cheese tasted fake. I can't even describe it - maybe velveta like, but worse because it was sweet like the cheese that comes out of a can. The fries were also not good, but edible. The burger was the only thing I ate that I wouldn't mind eating again. It looked appetizing and it tasted okay. Not amazing but not bad. A nice average burger. I don't regret trying it because I like fast casual joints like these and I think having more people f a variety of restaurants to choose from is great. Was visiting from Orlando hoping to try some good Chicago food. I stopped at chi shack because of the name but turned out to be very disappointed. First off we ate inside and the forgot our order waited almost 30 mins and when I asked them what's going on they said they mistaken our order for a drive through order.. by the time I got my food it was very cold .. dry... the fries undercooked. Decent burger spot with substantial offerings. They have several gourmet soda offering like filberts blue raspberry, which is my personal favorite. Seasoned fries are the way to go and the staff is quite friendly. I will admit the dining area is a bit small and the original Shake Shack of east coast fame is a bit better, but overall I will return. read more

I thought it had good flavor, but definitely a sandwich and not a sub. Not for a male appetite at all. Just served on a Gonnella bun. Beef Sandwich $5.45 -- 20 yr old male thought it was OK. Lots of Peppers on it. Charge extra for peppers and cheese. Polish Sausage $3.75 - Lots and Lots and Lots of Onions. Jumbo Hot Dog $3.10 - He thought it was more Vienna than Bobaks. Walked in at 2:00 on a Friday afternoon. The lady behind the counter did not speak so it was a little awkward just standing there until the cook cam to the counter to say "Hi, welcome to Chishack, can I help you". I understood why the cashier had an attitude because of her conversation with another employee complaining that the owner doesn't pay them on their regularly scheduled paydays. I love to stumble upon local gems and the Chi Shack was exactly that; a gem! Enjoyed an italian beef with cheddar cheese and Chi Fries. The beef was superb, full of flavor definitely not just a resturant-served vienna beef. The seasoning was done in house and the flavor showed. The regular beef was BIGGER than the big beef at portillos, lots of food! Employees were welcoming and insightful on sharing their best practices. I came later at night, around 9pm, watched them cook everything to order . Resturant was very clean both in the dining area and in the fairly open kitchen. Slightly underwhelming for $10, but I thought the Chi Bacon burger and small fries tasted ok. Price did include a drink. The fries were quite good and crispy; just the way I like them. I don't have any complaints about the burger other than it's kinda small for the price. I would say I've probably had better for less. A meal option would have been nice instead of having to buy each item separately. Would I come back? Probably only if I was going with someone else who wanted to try the place. I may give this place another try to see what else is on the menu, but if burgers are their specialty, this place is mediocre at best. read more

Stopped by CHISHACK this morning, I was greeted by a tall man. The bathrooms are so nice! He explained the entire menu to me. CHISHACK uses their own products. How cool is that? Everything sounded fantastic!! I ordered myself the maxwell polish with the chi fries, saved some room for a chi pie afterwards . I will most definitely be back for seconds next week! God am I glad I stopped in today and tried this place went with a couple of friends we got a beef a bacon Burger and chicken tenders and to orders of the garlic fries. Everything was very good service was very kind and helpful. Everything tasted very fresh. I will definitely be back. Blows the Portillo's beef out of the water!!!! I had the chi burger with the chi fries and a chocolate shake. The burger was juicy and very flavorful. The fries were good as well, not too much garlic and just enough parmassan cheese. Usually don't change my opinion of a place however the owner of Chishack made good on my complaints and the second time around the food was really good! Worse experience ever!!! I will never go back... My mother and I ordered a Chicago style polish dog, two dogs and two fries.. We live two minutes from here we got home my mothers hot dogs were so cold to were she had to warm them up too cook in the microwave... My polish dog was fried so hard you couldn't eat it and the fries were super salty!!! I called back before closing to inform the manger and got hung up on called back four times after and no answer!! Lots of people says that it takes way too long to get your food, but this place is not a McDonald's. McDonald's doesn't use fresh chicken or meat. Chishack uses fresh chicken and healthy ingredients. Giving it 5 stars cause burger was good , for a free burger cause the Blackhawks won I will take it. Also got garlic parmesan fries which were good the whole meal for hubby and I was a little over 3 dollars so I hope the Blackhawks keep winning!!! The staff is very friendly and it's obvious they try to please their customers. I feel good about eating there rather than one of the large chains. If they would turn on the heat in the fall and winter, this place would be a 5! It's FREEZING in there & every time I go, I must ask them to turn the heat up. Today it was 62 degrees in the joint! The lady said the furnace was broken. If that was the case, close the restaurant until it's fixed. Somehow though, I felt heat coming out the vents shortly thereafter. The front door is a bear to open & I'm not a 98# weakling. Now, the food - the hamburgers are FANTASTIC and the chicken breast sandwich is just as good. A bit pricey, but still a good meal. Go for the special of the day to save a buck. The Italian beef leaves a lot to be desired as the meat is sort of cubed rather than sliced. The french fries are very good too with a large portion served (buy the small and share - it's that big). This place is a keeper, so I hope the lack of traffic when I go is just due to the time of day and nothing else. read more

I have been here a few times over the last year or so and it had been generally pretty decent. Typical beef/hotdog stand food that although was not the best I had, but was above average and change of pace from Portillo's or Buona Beef. However, my last visit about a month ago really turned me off from this place. I had a combo that was huge and loaded with beef, but the meat was dry and the sausage was tasteless. I ordered it dipped and there was nothing but grease and not a drop of actual juice. The sandwich was horrible and I could not even finish it. I also ordered hamburgers for the kids and a hotdog. The burgers seemed fine, but my one son wanted a hotdog so I unwrap it to give him half and the hotdog was dark brown and not your usually pinkish color. So I cut it in half and it was bright pink in the center. Now I was afraid to have him try it so I tasted it and it had no flavor and tasted as it was sitting in the water for days. End up was the hotdog went In the trash with the rest of the combo sandwich. Fries were the only decent item. Like I said, I had been here a few times and it was not bad. Even had their hotdog special around National Hotdog Day, where the hotdogs were a buck and they were really good, but this last visit ruined my mostly positive memories of this place. read more
