This was my first time really ever having sauerkraut and I thought it was a good introduction. The restaurant is spacious and there are a ton of tables in the back. There's even an upstairs area for special events too. Our server was friendly and I thought the service was quick. For starters, we got the traditional flammekeuche and I enjoyed it! It's basically a German pizza where the dough is rolled very thinly. The traditional came with bacon pieces and onions sprinkled throughout. It's perfect for sharing. For my main, I got the Chez Jenny Sauerkraut which is HUGE. In hindsight, I should've probably shared the entree cause there is just so much meat in the dish. One order is enough to fill 3 people in my opinion. If you're unsure of which meats you want, the Chez Jenny is probably the way to go because you'll get to try all of them. My favorite was probably the smoked sausage which packed tons of flavor. The smoked pork belly was huge and if you love pork belly, you'll enjoy it here. If you're even THINKING about getting seafood for dinner, stop what you're doing and GET TO CHEZ JENNY NOW. You either need to make a reservation or arrive before the dinner rush (we got there at 6:30pm and we're the first ones to be seated for the dinner hour). If you can get there early, no reservation should be no problem. We were just a table of 2, on a Friday evening and didn't have to wait, but by the end of our meal the line was crazy. We ordered one meal of the Formule: entrée + plat + dessert and one main plat. It was almost too much food (which is a bonus given the prices) but was so delicious we tried our best to finish it. This is definitely the right place to go for Seafood!! We ordered some nice oysters, fish and meat with some salad. The Oyster platter is so fresh and we get to taste different types of them and they are so nice to give us some complimentary shrimp. OMG! They are so sweet!! (I meant both of the shrimps and the waiter) I think we also order some white to accommodate the seafood. Tips: It's typical to make a reservation for most of the restaurants in Paris. I've been going to this standby Alsatian-themed restaurant for years, and it is always reliable, and seemingly always open. If most restaurants are closed on certain days, chances are this spot will be your alternative lunch/dinner venue. My usual favourites include starting with some sort of fruits de mer (seafood platter), then, ordering a version of choucroute (pork with sauerkraut) as the main dish. I get too full by that point, so, I've never had dessert here. Best to order less than more, as portions are grand. I go with the Alsatian Riesling to start, followed by a nice light Pinot Noir from that region. Service is usually what it is here, confident, efficient, and no nonsense. All in all, always fun to visit, as the decorating is over-the-top, and there's usually a good mix of Parisians and tourists alike. read more

The Choucroute platter dishes are very popular but other than that there is nothing good to say about this restaurant. Service was extremely slow but when it comes it was rough and hurried. Our server knocked off our bread basket and almost emptied my wine glass. The onion soup was pre-made then warmed and lukewarm. The soup was diluted and tasteless. My veal also had not taste... We shared the 2-tiered seafood platter and gigantic pork plate (classic Alsatian style). Pork hock, sausages, pork bacon on a bed of sauerkraut. Plate of foie gras too. Hmmmn..looking at other reviews and based on my recent dining experience(last night), I'm confused on how is this the same place. First of, our waiter (older french gentleman), was very snobby, lol!!- He came to our table only twice(to take our order and to give us our check), but that's with my husband flagging him since he was simply laughing and socializing w/ other French customers (we are not and asked for American menus), but I'd like like to point out, every 'paying' customer deserves the same amt of attention. We practically had to beg for a carafe of water!! The waiter succeeded in providing top notch deplorable customer service. It was as if, the only reason he had to serve us is because we were seated in his section. With bad service, likely the taste of food(ours were so-so, no veal nor lobster the night we dined) no matter how great, gives a lasting sour taste- almost of loathe. The manager Eric was an absolute nightmare to deal with. There was a group that arrived first, and another group of 5 arrived right after. We asked if we can move to a bigger table and after that everything went down the hill: he refused to move us so we could all sit together. Then he said we can't order food and definitely not just the drinks as they are not "just the bar". He then changed his story and said we can order food "but really fast" because they are closing and everyone wants to go home. I asked what can we do to make both the restaurant and the group happy and he said "nothing". I was so off put by this interaction that I decided to leave. Boring food even by American standards.. My wife and I had a chicken dish that was all one color of brown and tasted as good as it looked.. Boiled tasteless chicken with a cream sauce that was bland served under boring mashed potatoes.. We were also served a pudding dish for dessert that which was elementary at best, but that was OK because there is an amazing bakery around the corner of this place.. The food here is very good, but could be better for the very expensive price of the dishes. Perhaps I don't have the right taste buds, but the dish served with a bunch of different kinds of sausages were kind of bland. However, the salmon and pizzas were very good. Oysters were excellent as well. Seafood was a pretty good way to go. The location is conveniently near Republique and the venue itself is very nice. It seemed like the people eating here were on dates or in business suits (we weren't), along with some families. One thing to note though is that the place wasn't packed, but the food took forever to come out, and our server seemed to take forever to take our order, and then give us our bill. I don't know if they were short on servers despite not being full, but we spent way too much time waiting for our waiter...even my French family was getting impatient. I came here for a solo meal at the end of my stay in France. I got a seafood tagliatelle and a creme brulee as part of one of their meal deals. I also got a half liter of wine. The food was okay - generous portions of pasta with lots of seafood, but too salty for my taste. The creme brulee was not spectacular - I wish I had gotten something else. My wife and I visited Chez Jenny as the few restaurants we had scoped out online were closed (~ roughly around 3:30 PM on a Wednesday). Mediocre food and uninterested waitstaff. The menu reminded me of an American chain restaurant's: kitschy and overly stuffed with options which seemed to try and please anyone's palette (like Cheesecake Factory). I ordered what I thought was the house special: sauerkraut Caramélisée, an overly salted (cannot stress this enough) Pork knuckle supposedly caramelized in honey (didn't taste that at all) served over famous house sauerkraut (nowhere to be seen on the plate). The saving grace were the fries which were OK but at least had an edible salt content. My wife had the shrimp pasta, a bland and uninspired plate of drab pasta with seemingly reconstituted bay shrimp lacking flavor (beyond salt of course) or proper texture. Service was satisfactory (barely) but at least the beer was sizable and cold. Needless to say we won't be returning to Chez Jenny. read more

This is a great place to come for Alsacienne cuisine, particularly the choucroute. The pork knuckle and sausages are amazing. Don't get fries or chips, get the sauerkraut. It is so good! The menu claims it's made with duck fat and white wine. What's not to like? I have had some really good service here with one exception a few years ago where the staff was a bit inattentive. Came here for lunch with a large group, we had the three course meal (salad, chicken, and pie). The food was above average, I definitely enjoyed the meal. Because we didn't think of it as a destination spot, perhaps our expectations were not as high as if we had traveled to get there. The food is good and the atmosphere is charming. The cuisine is taken from Strasbourg, which was quite yummy. If you're not familiar with this style of cuisine, search around and read up on it. Oh, bring your appetite too! We went here to try some seafood, it was a good choice. We were seated quickly, but it took about 5-10 minutes to get a menu (side note: not sure if this is a Parisan thing- so this may be ridiculous to be annoyed at). We ordered Alsatian wine, it was fine. We ordered chicken ballotine and sole menuiere. It was pricy (fish was 40€!), but you're in Paris, everything will be expensive. The chicken was tasty and the fish was fantastic. Dessert was great, we ordered the iced grand Marnier soufflé (basically an ice cream dish) and the Grand Marnier crepes (THE BEST). I took a nap before this dinner and I probably could have used one afterward. We had the Chez Jenny Special Sauerkraut (pork loin, smoked sausage with cumin, Strasbourg sausage, smoked pork belly, poached knuckle of pork) and the traditional flammenkueches (a thin round flatbread with creme fraiche, fromage frais, onions, diced bacon) - and the whole meal was very good, very Alsatian, very meat coma. Myself, wife and three kids were walking the neighborhood after a long day sightseeing. We noticed the area had lots of restaurants to choose from, so we looked at a few menus before we choose Chez Jenny's. I understand the difficulty in seating families, so I wasn't offended we were seated towards the back of window seating next to a open flame cooker used for flambay style dishes, never mind it's the end of July, then the wait staff takes the revolve fan and moves it closer to patio. The kids were tired and the staff took at least twenty minutes to offer drinks and never offered water. We finally get to order and upon completion of our order the waitress jokes " I hope I remember all of this". She didn't , she forgot drinks for my wife and daughter, brought the kids plates out and they ate and were finished before my wife, myself and older daughters plates were brought. Actually our plates were never brought, we had been waiting foe over an hour for our plates, I guess she did horribly forget and at those prices I wasn't going to continue to watch more than a few diners around us who arrived after us to continue to receive their food. I finally was able to get the waitress attention to close out the bill and she was annoyed with me because in her words, " the plates were coming". No thanks to Chez Jenny's, our experience was horrible, the staff incompetent to say the least, prices to expensive for service or quality and definitely not a place for families. read more

We found ourselves at Chez Jenny for an arranged lunch for our Paris tour, along with four other bus loads of people from our cruise ship last week. We were all ushered to a second floor banquet room, where we were served a roasted chicken breast and potato gratin dish, neither of which appear to be on their website posted menu. Shame too! I think I would have preferred to explore their Alsatian menu. Anyway, it happened to be an extremely hot day in Paris and the banquet room was no different. It was difficult to enjoy our lunch since it was so hot in the room. The service for this large group of us was perfectly fine, however pleas to turn on the air conditioning were not acknowledged. one of my favourite places. first restaurant i went to, after arriving in paris first time in my life. gets only 4* as after few visits i noticed sometimes food is badly over salted, and one old male waiter (blond wearing glasses) was rude. avoid bugger! 9 of 10 times i was happy. i think you can safely go and would be happy. read more
