Idon't know how I feel about this place so I'm hoping by the end of this review I'll have a clearer idea.
We went here on the recommendation of the concierge at our hotel down the road. We rocked up around 9pm and the place had a decent amount of people in it, always a good sign. One of the wait staff asked us, in French, how many we were and I answered, in French. He smiled and started speaking to us in English which I appreciated as although my French is passbale, I was tired and wasn't really in the mood for conjugating irregular French verbs.
We were seated in the tented outside seating area near a table of two middle-aged couples. The males spent the rest of the night checking out my wife, which I thought was pretty funny, but she got tired of it after a while. (I still think it was funny.)
The menu was only in French which, to me, is a good sign as it shows the place isn't TOO touristy. I translated for my wife but I guess bacon cheeseburger is the same in French as it is in English and she ordered that. The menu was a good mix of standard French fare and old favorites. I opted for a Caesar Salad to start with and the salmon pasta to finish. The waiter asked when I should bring the lady's burger as she hadn't ordered a starter. Nice touch which so many restaurants overlook.
Our drinks came, along with some bread and a nice oliver apperitif and then shortly thereafter my MASSIVE chicken caesar salad. I'm talking huge, easily a meal in itself. Not wanting to spoil my main, I only ate about half of it which sucked because it was excellent. My wife's bacon cheeseburger looked phenomenal and she said it tasted amazing. The accompanying fries were fantastic.
But then something got lost in the shuffle. Our plates were cleaned away and we were presented with the dessert menu. The problem was, I hadn't received my main course yet. After about 15 minutes the head waiter came running out and said something's missing, isn't it? before running back inside to retrieve my pasta. It was warm and excellent if just a bit late.
The best moment of the evening was when we were settling the bill. Our total came to exactly EUR69 and the waiter looked at the bill, looked at us and said ahhh, my favorite number! Laughter all around before he said ok, good, I could say that with young people like you. We then had a long chat with him about where we were from, etc. Nice guy, really nice guy that made us forget about the little pasta problem.
Anyway, great little place, fantastic portions, good service as long as you don't split courses ;-) read more
