Incredible, new favourite and go to breakfast diner in downtown Toronto. The food is delicious, freshly cooked diner fare and the portions are huge with exceptionally low prices especially in the context of high recent inflation. Service was friendly. The three egg breakfast was delicious and is $6.99 or $8.99 if you include a side of bacon, sausage, or ham. The service friendly and fast. I'll be back soon!

A really nice and affordable place for brunch. We ordered the great Canadian rail omelette and the eggs Benedict st Patrick - both were large portions, filling and tasty. Service was friendly and quick. We came on a monday holiday around 11:30am and were quickly seated as the place wasnt busy.

I love these non pretentious, "dive diners". Delicious food, great service... fantastic price point! Love the atmosphere.

I like the theme and the food portions are generous. I wouldn't say the breakfast is amazing but there is a large variety on the menu. I enjoyed my breakfast here and it was a great value. Overall I'd come here again for a sturdy breakfast and an ok cup of coffee

The plates are huge and if you don't get a big appetite, it's a waste... I ordered the Benedict, I had 4 eggs!! Unfortunately, they cannot put the appropriate amount of hollandaise. My whole plate was drowning in the sauce and I couldn't eat half of it. It was disgusting. Service very basic and slow. Probably won't return.

Checked out #chewchewdiner today bc they have the cutest little mural on the side of their store and had to come see what they're about! The portions were American sized and the price was good. I ordered the pork hot sandwich with mashed potatoes and veggies on the side. I'm not sure why the boiled veggies were a little bit sour, but if it's done on purpose please stop bc it tastes like it has gone bad. My bf loved his breakfast burger though and was very satisfied with the portion size (4/5 rating). Our friend also enjoyed his meatloaf eggs benny (3.9/5). I was impressed by the service - our server was super friendly in a genuine sort of way and very on top of her game. The waters were also always full. Unfortunately I found a hair inside my hot sandwich so was too grossed out to finish the rest of the sandwich. My experience with the food was not great, but the other tasters at my table highly enjoyed their food. Price - 11.99 for hot pork sandwich Nom factor - 3/5 Service - 5/5

At first, the restaurant doesn't look like much but the server, Gray, was so friendly right off the bat. Their service was above and beyond from the moment we stepped through the door until the moment we left. Then the food was amazing, I was expecting just regular diner food if that makes sense. Gray suggest we try the avocado, bacon egg dish with fancy hot sauce and omg it was so good!! I will definitely be going back

Another homerun in Toronto! I love the hole-in-the-wall places. The hidden gems where only locals dare tread...why? because they are usually the best place around. Chew Chew is one of them. Greeted by a friendly staff, lead to a booth that has seen more butts in it than I could care to imagine. To follow is a classic fry up that these places are famous for. The peameal bacon and eggs was plenty and by no means would you leave hungry. If you want linen napkins and cut glass goblets...this isn't the place for you. If you want good service and good food in a local atmosphere, this is a gem in Toronto.

I decided to have dinner here before seeing They Might Be Giants at the Phoenix. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and the staff is just attentive enough. I had the Friday night fish special (whitefish) and enjoyed the large portions. Everything was hot, greasy and exactly right. Coleslaw oily and vinegary, classic. My friend stood me up, so I ended up hanging out here for more than an hour, reading a novel and drinking tea. Staff never made me feel like I should pay up and leave, even after I offered when I saw the room start to fill up. All in all, a perfect place in Moss Park to hide from a cold, dark, wet night.

Big portions! Decent taste .... but when the pancakes are served darker than my complexion it's time to go!

I was really surprised that this place was not busy. The food was fantastic and the service was great. Alex our waiter was right on with the menu and service . Very pleased and will certainly be coming back.

I was very impressed with this diner. The service is very good as is the food. I ordered the hour turkey sandwich and it was proper turkey not deli turkey. It came served with fresh vegetables. I ordered it with the fresh cut fries as my potato and they lived up to my expectations (I have a thing for fresh cut French Fries). Good portions and good food. It is conveniently located on the streetcar line. Definitely check them out. I'll be back. I love old style diners.

It has reopened Saturday, October 12, 2024, now calling itself "Grill" instead of "Diner." Menu looks pretty similar.

The restaurant is giving cozy comforts diner with abut 20 people worth of seating. Join the waitlist as soon as you can because you can wait up to 2 hours for a table on a Sunday morning. After we got seated and our waiter came over and he wasn't giving the most welcoming energy, he seemed a little stand off ish which was weird but we assumed that's just how he was lol. Other than that that the service was good. We started with the biscuits. You have an option to have it with gravy or jam. We got jam and it came with a clotted cream like spread and a cinnamon apple tasting jam. The biscuits were nice and fluffy. We got an ice coffee too and it was really good. I always come for the party melt. It comes with their house salad and a scoop of their sweet potato salad. The whole plate was fantastic. We also for their turkey dinner and this was so delicious but we were so full we only had a couple bites and took the rest home. It was just as delicious as reheated leftovers.

With its red exterior, snug booth seating, and counter stools worn smooth by years of faithful custom, it wears its authenticity without affectation. The Irish breakfast is the undisputed centrepiece: a generous, unapologetically hearty spread that arrives with the sort of abundance one associates with a proper Irish kitchen. Portions are substantial and satisfying, calibrated for appetite rather than aesthetics -- and all the better for it. The menu is unpretentious, and the cooking honest. What distinguishes The George Street Diner most, however, is the quality of its hospitality. The service is warm and unhurried, characterised by a genuine attentiveness that is increasingly rare. One leaves not merely fed, but looked after -- and that distinction matters. It is the sort of neighbourhood gem one recommends without hesitation, and whose reputation travels well. I have done so on multiple occasions, and the response has been unfailingly positive. A treasured find for weekend brunch in Toronto.

The atmosphere was welcoming and had the classic charm you'd expect from a neighborhood favorite. Unfortunately, our experience didn't quite live up to the hype. The food was decent but fairly average. Nothing was particularly bad, but nothing stood out as memorable either. The Irish breakfast was not Irish at all. For a place with such a strong reputation, I expected more flavor and attention to detail. The biggest disappointment was the service. The service was slow, they never checked on the table, and several requests (3 of the 5 drinks, syrup for the french toast, water refills) were either forgotten or took a long time to arrive. The restaurant wasn't especially busy, which made the lack of attentiveness even more noticeable. About 20 mins after we finished our food, we decided to head inside to pay and then our server noticed we left and accused us of walking on our tab but we had the payment receipt! I can see why some people may enjoy this spot, and perhaps I visited on an off day, but based on this experience, I found the food ordinary and the service well below expectations.

Sadly there was no chair for her to sit down on yet it didn't stop her from going to her regular spot for a Sunday brunch. She told me that she has been coming here for many years, even before it was called Sammy's. Has it been 30 years, she asked herself? Either way, she made it known that she is quite the regular. Very nice and friendly lady. These are the types of regulars that make the diner what it is. There is a sign in clipboard at the front, as soon as you walk in. You have to sign in as part of contact tracing in case there is an outbreak of COVID linked back to this establishment. Make sure you do not block the pathway from behind the bar, I didn't block it but a large family with several kids needed a place to stand in line and wait for a big table, because servers will get very mad at you and tell you "I NEED TO GET BY! DON'T BLOCK THE WAY!" But there is no where to stand when the lineup is 20 people deep. This is something to think about once the weather gets colder and there is a long lineup out the door. Perhaps takeout would be a better option than to be yelled at by the short haired waitress with tattoos? While I did not mind waiting and I had a book to occupy my time in the lineup and at the table before I was given the menu, I could see that this was obviously a rush time, prime time lunchtime at the diner, maybe others might be a little more impatient than me? I could watch a snail crawl for hours, patience is a virtue. The wait is very long to get seated and even longer to get food. While the food was pretty good, and the other server was very friendly, attentive and nice, I think they were short staffed that day and nothing is ever as instant as fast food. My advice would be to go here when you have the time to wait. Don't come here if you are in a rush. It's better to only come here when you have lots of time to wait.
