My daughter ordered chicken fingers dinner and the chicken was tender and juicy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. My wife ordered ravioli platter, it was decent but the sauce was salty. We ordered matzoh ball soup. It was good, I wish it came out extremely hot. The one platter came with Greek salad. It was very good. Some of the baby cucumbers were on the bitter side. Wow! I was a bit hesitant to visit this dinner but I am so pleasantly surprised!! I went here with a friend for brunch, the dinner is so much bigger on the inside than I expected and it's so clean and cozy! The food was so good, I got Waffles and chicken with some strawberries and they were all so crazy good! The chicken was so soft and easy to eat and the same goes for the waffles. There's not too many diners in Morris County that we haven't dined at. Tonight, we stopped in at the Chester Diner for dinner. Starting with the sign on the outside of the building, the place looks like it could use some sprucing up. The good news is that the food was very good. I went with a diner favorite, the cheeseburger deluxe. The burger with fried onions on it was very good. Everyone liked their food especially my mother-in-law with her pancakes. Stopped here after strawberry picking nearby. The women's bathroom was clean. Our server was friendly. Drinks were refilled and extra napkins were given without being asked. Nice touch. Everyone enjoyed their food. Kids mozzarella sticks and Philly burger were excellent. My Spanish quesadilla was probably the best diner quesadilla I've ever had. When I came to Yelp to write a review for this diner, I saw how many bad, 1-star reviews they had, and I was very surprised by this! People said that the place was dirty, sticky tables and terrible bathrooms! Many people also complained about the service being poor! This was NOT my experience! My table was clean, the floors were clean and even I was surprised at how clean the bathroom was! (Something I cannot say about many places I've eaten at before.) We went for breakfast and the place was packed! When you see an empty parking lot, it usually is the first sign that a diner/restaurant is not very good. Our food was PERFECT! The eggs were cooked the way I asked them to be cooked (over medium). The home fries were some of the best I've EVER had, and the Virginia ham steak was not chewy and was perfectly grilled (not fried)! Oh, and the service was friendly and professional! Because many of those bad reviews were from 2 to 3 years ago, maybe they are under new management or maybe they just started cracking down on the staff. Whatever the reason, I would highly recommend this diner to anyone! I live 30 minutes from this diner, and we only stopped there because we were in the area. The reviews here don't lie, I would not recommend this place as the go-to diner. We stopped by after apple-picking at a nearby orchard. We were lucky to be seated quickly on a Saturday around 12pm because there was a line not long after we were seated and it seems like things really slowed down right after we arrived. Although our server was pretty nice, the service was not so great. She kept telling us our order would be right out but it took forever to come - at least offer the kids something to hold us over? Anything. Almost 45 minutes later (with 2 kids getting antsy) our order finally came. She got 2 of the orders wrong. Also, the server said it wasn't busy at all and she wishes it was busier. Seemed busy enough to us that we had to wait so long... Also, the other servers/people behind the counter just seemed plain rude and glared at us when we asked for an extra utensil set. You very curt to me when I thanked you for the fountain drink refill, as well as asking for the soup specials. You even passive aggressively mentioned how my friend made your job easy because she smiled; how passive aggressive! I am so glad I was with friends because they gave me their water and some of their coffee, as the "nice" waitress was very slow on refills. It's a normal diner. The wait staff is not white glove. The food is not artisanal French bistro food. It's a normal, diner. Someone at her table had the cheeseburger and it was huge and they liked it. I had a buffalo chicken strip salad that was perfectly big enough that I took some home. Observed two couples leave the diner who were seated before us and the waitress did not take their drink orders or come over and say she would be right over. Our Waitress had a horrible attitude. When she finally came to take our order. She told us she did not have all day for us to order. She pointed to her arm like there was a watch and said hurry up. The waitress did not come back to check on the table for more coffee or to see how everything was until she gave us the check. Although the food was great and I would give it a 4 1/2 out of five I rate the diner as a one star because of the poor service. Please put extra staff on when busy. So glad that I only checked Yelp after we were seated because we would have never met our server, Jamie R., who was such a sweetheart. For a Sunday evening, the diner was not crowded and the food came out quickly. I loved the kids' menu because it was low-cost, their order came with a to-go cup + straw and ice cream. Met a friend at The Chester Diner for lunch, directly off of Rt 206 North. Their sign was somewhat difficult to find as it was not easily seen from the road. I was looking forward towards an enjoyable lunch yet, other than the good company, it was not to be. We started off with coffee. Now, I am an expert on cooking French Toast at home and, also knowing where to get great French Toast. My plate consisted of thin "white-bread-like" slices that were barely warm. Their coloration appeared to be grilled on their flat top. Nothing I could add to this presentation would help it past the taste and visuality test. Upon paying our check, the Owner/Manager was on the phone having a (loud) debate with another person. He began this angry dissertation by reading off every menu item from his menu! Noticing that my last review is six years old, I think I will write an update. I stop in here once a year with between six and ten friends following the completion of the Southwest Morris Winter Bird Count. It's a long day of birding and this year I walked eight miles so I was in great need of some substantial protein. We always sit at a large table in the back so we can share and compile our sightings. Look forward to it every year. Great server this year. Very responsive. Everyone had their food quickly and their drinks refilled. I had a huge bacon burger with well done fries and two onion rings. The burger was well cooked, rare as requested. That goes a long way in my book. Delicious. The other guys had everything from whole wheat pancakes to half a broiled chicken with mashed potatoes. Went with my family and friends to the Chester Diner after visiting Riamede Farm for the day. Our table was 2 children (2yo and 5yo) and 4 adults. First thing the waitress said to us was "You guys smell - were you at the farm? You smell like the farm." We looked at each other like what just happened? Food was eh. Took forever to come out. Waitress was running all over the place my burger was overcooked. My daughters pasta from the kids menu was a buttery oily mess.
