The place is just dirty. The waitress brought me napkins and they were dirty and the table was already dirty and not cleaned with a bunch of coffee stains. Food wasn't that great and the server we got was rude and rushed us. I don't know if she was having a bad day or not but I took notice that she was more amicable with other tables. When we received our orders she raised her voice at me telling me to move my coffee to set the plates down, normally if Something is in the way a customer is told nicely to move it, but this women yelled at me. She also wouldn't Check in with us throughout our meal. The staff member at the register was sweet so I don't fault the entire team. If you don't mind eating your meal under stained and dirty ceiling tiles this diner is just fine. It il's a shame the owner doesn't care enough about the place to maintain the tiles. The black dust around the ceiling vents signifies that the filters aren't changed as often as they should be. My wife says the ladies bathroom is disgusting. read more

I am generally not a huge fan of diners with the general thought process of the menu being too extensive for it to be good on, shall we say, the more complex dishes so to ensure no disappointment I always keep things simple. I have not been here in years but this place had the best pancakes I've ever had in New Jersey and was beautiful inside. Bright and spacious with a great look and feel. It didn't even look like a typical diner. It felt more like I was in Maine at a quaint New England place. Now maybe they went downhill. That does happen. I no longer go to Jersey so have not been able to visit but I LOVED this diner. They seemed to be opened all the time, had great breakfasts for awesome prices and warm sunny staff members. Been there several times over the years. I think it used to be better but that might just be nostalgia. Last time I went there it cost 25 bucks for two people. One person got a soda and a bacon cheeseburger and the other got a soda and a meatloaf sandwich. Neither items were big enough or tasty enough to justify that price. i have been here several times for breakfast and lunch . It is what you would expect from a NJ diner. I have had omelettes and various types of breakfast sandwiches. They are all good. We have never been treated as bad as we were yesterday. The diner was busy and we were not in a hurry. We waited awhile then a snarly server came over and said "know what you want" in a mean disgusting voice. We asked what the soups were, she threw her hands up in the air in disgust and said I do t know and walked away. We got up proceeded to leave walk over to her and said she did not need to be so rude. ***2.5 stars*** After living in a town with a phenomenal diner, it was a little disappointing coming to the Chester Diner. My old haunt set the bar high, so it's hard for me to find a diner that measures up. That being said, this place really was just so-so. There was nothing obviously awful about our experiences here, but there was also nothing superb that sticks out in our minds. The food was... well, it was diner food. I've ordered a BLT, grilled cheese, and omelets here on various visits and they've all been passable, but I had really hoped for better. The wait for our food was average, and our server each time was pleasant and made sure to refill our drinks when necessary, but again, nothing really stood out one way or the other. This is very much a cookie-cutter Jersey diner. There's nothing wrong with that, but I was hoping for better since this place is so close to home. We will definitely go many more times in the future since they're open later than most of the other non-fast food places in the area, but we know to keep our expectations limited. read more

Great diner! There is a lot of seating and they move quickly to get you seated. Their service is great! As soon as you're seated, someone is over to start serving you. We started off with mozzarella sticks. They are very very good! One of the best from a diner for sure. I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was delicious! I would recommend it for sure! They have nice size English muffins too! The dish was delicious. The coffee delicious too. I would say they only thing that is frustrating is the parking. The lot does not have lines and people park all over the place. The dining room is louder than the booths in the front. If you are looking for a quieter space, don't sit in the dining room. This goes down as one of my favorite diners this year! :) read more

Everyone loves the Chester diner. Great eggs OK burgers and always great service. I do have to admit I like Randolph better. My son thinks the price is a better Chester so he will not go to Randolph. You can't go wrong here either way. Conveniently located for sure. My favorite dish here is the Asian salad. read more

This place was great! Delicious crispy bacon, shredded home fries and very tasty waffle with fresh strawberries. I topped it all off with a chocolate milkshake. Also there is plenty of space so coming on Sunday at 11am we were seated right away. read more

As a resident of Chester, I visit once a year in the hopes this place has improved. Without fail, they have managed to screw up a diner. I walked in to find a loud obnoxious host berating a staff member in front of the patrons. We had to change seats because of a loud party and were told "you need to take your menus and place settings with you". Then there was the annoyed look on our waitress' face with every request. Nothing to see here. Sllooooooooow service, mediocre food, and kind of run down. The booths were worn down through the paint and to the bare wood all of the sides. This place has gone downhill. It used to be a great dinor, but it has fallen into some disrepair. Bathroom was not very clean, overall place is just not updated. Food was fine but not great. The service was the real problem. The waitress kept rushing us even though the place was not full. Every time someone stopped eating for a minute, she asked if we wanted boxes. Part of our table left to take a baby to the car, and she used that part of the table to rest another table's beverages on while she served them. Very strange. Really disappointing meal and service today. Server did not know the specials, did not know ingredients in the omelets on the menu, forget part of the order, got some of it wrong. We informed the hostess that two stalls in the women's bathroom were without toilet paper and 15 minutes later they remained without paper. Had the the manager who took our payment asked how our meal was, we would have shared our opinion; alas, he was interested only in our payment but not our experience. Will not return. read more

On December 14th 2011, I had the Grilled chicken over tossed salad. As I was eating the chicken, it felt "chewy" and cool. I took a close look at the strips of grilled chicken, and discovered a raw piece. I was upset and called the waitress over, who plucked it out with her hands and said " It's only 1 piece". This place is hit or miss. Lately it has struck out more than it was a hit. Their lunch panni's are good I really like them. For breakfast its a little meh, I paid 16 bucks for a waffle, 2 eggs, some home fires and a tea. Was never offered a refill on my drink nor anyone else at the table. I love the Chester Diner! I spent a lot of time in Flanders when I was growing up and we would frequent the diner when I was there. My wife and I spent a few days in the area and decided to stop in for lunch on Memorial Day. I haven't eaten there is more than 30 years and it was just as good as I remember it. I had the cheeseburger deluxe platter - the burger was cooked properly and the fries were great. My wife had the tuna melt and was quite happy with her choice. The waitress was friendly and attentive, as was the entire staff. If I lived closer we were certainly have the diner in our "rotation". It's nice to know that some things never change.... read more
