I love going to Cheshire coffee for their delicious brews and they're yummy sandwiches in their small bakery that they offer as well.

I usually come here for a latte when in the area visiting family, it's definitely a nice spot and a good break from the generic brands such as DD, Starbucks and all. Parking lot is usually full and there is a steady stream of customers. Some annoying things however are that the coffee is pretty pricey. My most recent iced latte ended up being $5+; I don't even pay that much for one in Manhattan where the coffee is frankly much better. The cap for a latte is $4-4.50 in my opinion--the $5-6 range is frappe territory. It also tends to be somewhat inconsistent in taste. I've ordered the white mocha latte on a few occasions and at times it has been SO SWEET, to the point of not being palatable, that I've had to micromanage the amount of flavoring they use. Finally, I wish the management would take a more green approach to all the plastic plastic plastic. Is there a compostable option? For the people who choose to stay in, can they use glass or ceramic cups? Also, there is no option to recycle plastic cups. As a local joint, they really should care about the waste footprint. That would make me like them a million times more. read more

A gem of a community coffeehouse! The family that runs this place has got it right with what an ideal coffee house needs to be like! It's twenty minutes for me to get to either Cheshire Coffee or the Watertown Starbucks! I prefer Cheshire Coffee any day. The vibe is is awesome. They're creative with their coffee drinks even though I'm a black coffee or straight americano drinker. the moments I feel like a cup of tea, they don't disappoint! They also offer many non-coffee alternative to lattes. The best part though is that I had been on a a hunt for chocolate espresso beans and was striking out until I found them at Cheshire Coffee! I know I could have just driven out to Whole Foods and found them there. Let's see their pastries always look tempting but I've only ventured as far as their biscotti and health bars. First time at Cheshire Coffee out of the way but nice quiet location with nice patio to slowly enjoy your coffee and snack and have good times with friends. Very friendly staff; most important good coffee and good selection of snacks. The pumpkin bread and oatmeal cookie was our first choice both great. What I am about to say is meant to help the business not hurt it. I love seeing local businesses succeed. I visited this pace two days ago as my family will be moving to the area in a couple of months and we were doing our home inspection that day. I needed to start working and instead of driving to my usual spot (Common Grounds in Branford) I decided to give this place a try. I'm a tea drinker so the tea options are critical for me. Those options are decent and the staff was courteous enough. The issue I had was that even though it is a local place it had more of a corporate cookie cutter feel. I was hoping for something more along the lines of where I usually go which has a warm and inviting feel. Common Grounds is busy but the baristas (which there is typically only one on duty they only overlap for an hour at shift change) still manage to get everyone serviced [w/ sincere niceness, sweep, mop and clean the restroom (toilet and sink included) multiple times per day]. I mean the place is kept remarkably clean . So if the owner(s) of Cheshire Coffee read this please take a trip to Common Grounds in Branford, spend an hour or two there. We can all learn a better way of doing things. Will I go back to Cheshire Coffee? I am hopeful that I can stay closer to home when I am able to work remotely. Until then I will probably make the drive to Branford. Both locations are amazing - I usually go to Cheshire because it's closer. They change their specialty drinks menu every season (fall is my favorite) and everything is so yummy!! The staff is always super friendly and it's a cozy atmosphere. Also love their scones when they have them! read more

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a caffeine addict and pretty picky about my coffee. I don't drink that watered down filth served by Dunkin Donuts unless I'm desperate. Cheshire Coffee is better Starbucks by a mile. They're comparably priced but the coffee is so much better. The breakfast sandwiches are a touch on the pricey side but oh man are they worth it. They also have paninis and regular sandwiches, which look absolutely delicious, I wish this place was a touch closer to work so I could get there and back on my lunch break in a timely fashion so I could try one. I strongly recommend iced coffee with banana nut bread syrup - then add a few taps of cinnamon after. OMFG. read more

Great location. Plenty of parking easy in and out. The selection is just what you need from a coffee shop. They have plenty of non-caffeinated options too. The food I've tried so far has been fantastic. It appears to be freshly made. One problem is that they don't always have everything, which is only a problem if it wasn't good to begin with. The staff is extremely friendly and the ambiance of the place is quaint. The decor makes me feel like I am in someone's private study and less like your typical coffee shop. And some nice patio seating as well, for when the weather permits. read more

We out of Towner's had come to participate in a marathon run. With the weather pleasantly cold, we ended up here to grab a cup of coffee.. Clean place, pleasant servers and quick service along with ample parking.. what else can you ask for. Seems a popular place as was packed . Grabbed a table and order mocha along with hot chocolate for drinks and chocolate brownie and muffin for bite. The coffee was just perfect as if a magical portion has been steered into. Glad didn't hop over to neighborhood Starbucks. The brownie also had generous amount of chocolate chunks and was super soft and fresh. Overall wonderful and satisfying stopover. read more

Stopped in Cheshire Coffee before my wedding dress appointment next door at Bliss Bridal and grabbed a muffin and an iced coffee. The coffee was amazing! Very flavorful. I also had a peach muffin warmed up with some butter. It was delicious. Very impressed. The guy behind the counter was hilarious and made for an even better experience. Wanted to update my review as I have been here quite a few times as of late and my experience has been 100x better. I have tried a few different lattes all with almond milk and they were all delicious and well made which can sometimes be a hard task working with steaming non dairy milk. I really like this place and usually always stop by everytime I pass through Cheshire. It is a cute little coffee place that is family owned and it is a very relaxing atmosphere. The more common coffee chains tend to be a bit uppity and claustrophobic but this place doesn't feel like that at all. I am always greeted with a friendly welcome and the baristas make everything fast and accurately. It's cool too because they even offer boba tea! You know those tapioca balls? MMM those are good. Anywho, I really like this place and they offer free wi-fi too which is pretty cool. They also have big leather chairs and couches to lounge out on. If I was still in school, this would be the spot to come and cram before a big exam. This place definitely gets 5 stars! Hayden is my favorite barista at Cheshire coffee she always takes care of me and is fast at making drinks.

This place is great. Great coffee, really strong and caffeinated, very relaxed and friendly atmosphere with a lot of seating - indoor and out. My only issue with it was that it was pretty expensive. I paid 3.30 for what would be a small iced coffee at Dunkin'. So, overall yes I will be coming back but it's more of a special occasion place rather than an every day coffee spot. read more

Jeff and I met up with a friend here recently and I loved it! The friend we met up with knew the owner, so we were able to meet him and chit chat with him for a while. I love that this place is family owned, you actually feel comfortable to sit down and drink your coffee and eat (almost like a Panera vibe). I had never heard of Cheshire Coffee or seen it (since it's a little hidden) and I have lived here forever! We love strong black coffee and this place was great! Greenwich Coffee is sooo uppity it's not even funny and their parking situation is horrible, and everyone that works there always looks sooo miserable! AND Greenwich doesn't have great wraps like Cheshire Coffee's! We split a turkey and provolone wrap with this really good sauce. I love how this place kind of reminds me of a Starbuck's (which I LOVE!), but itscuter, more cozy and closer than going to Wallingford. We will most likely stop in again! read more

I live right next to , literally, this place. The coffee is good, but I do not like strong coffee, so I usually buy a cappuccino. I love that they have free WIFI, and they have a cozy setting. There are people that work there who are very nice and always serve you with a smile. I love that they are nice and friendly. They are a bit pricey in my opinion, but if you want a good product, you pay. It is similar to starbucks in price. I have not had any food there, but their muffins are great. This places leaves me with mixed feelings. I came in at noon and got my usual, a triple latte, and the staff and coffee were both stellar. I sat in the back and worked for an hour and after a shift change ordered another latte...only this time the staff weren't remotely friendly (guess they're too busy catching up and hanging out). They seriously made me feel like I were intruding by interrupting to place my order. So the girl at the counter rolls her eyes when she misunderstands what I order and I repeat it, she screwed up the bill - two charges for one latte, the barista doesn't call out my drink, so it sits there for a few minutes before I walked up and saw it and had to ask, and finally the milk tastes scalded. WTH? I would never think this were the same place the second time around. Would I come back? I'm not sure. I'll finish my crappy latte and think about it. read more

My favorite coffeehouse in Cheshire. Even though I've since moved away, I always make a stop here when I come back in town. The people here are always very nice and I'm addicted to the peanut butter mocha dairy smoothie. It tastes just like a Reese's peanut butter cup in frozen drink form. My friends have gotten other things and are always super happy with their drinks. I've tried many of the baked goods and most are yummy as well. Prices are a little on the high side, but I don't mind paying a little more and then a tip because I love this place and the people so much and want it to do well. I know the coffee options are limited, but honestly I think a Starbucks would be better than this mess. I ordered a tall iced latte with bubbles, (something the menu assured me was possible) what I got was a nasty tasting taro drink that had way too little tea or coffee, too much milk, and one of the worst tapioca I've ever had. The barista working the shift was extremely rude for reasons I don't understand. She also for some reason thinks the taro flavor and vanilla are the same- either she's mistaken, or Cheshire Coffee doesn't understand what taro is. read more

Minuses: food could be more delicate (e.g. sandwiches are, to me, too thick in bread); bagels are just awful (cannot be eaten without toasting--very dry and quasi unpalatable); appears to be owned by a right wing conservative (given the political signs outside during campaigns). The coffee was great. The atmosphere was OK, just pretty loud. If you're wanting to go somewhere cool to chill out this probably is not necessarily the place to hang out, but a good place to get coffee. One other thing that was kind of irritating is that I'm guessing the owner or the manager came out and sat with his phone playing with some sort of talk show super loud I could hear it all the way up in the front of the restaurant. Let me preface this review by saying I don't drink coffee. I'm a rare breed, not a mythological creature. So, why do I think Cheshire Coffee is great? They have great alternatives for the rare non-coffee drinker... the hot caramel apple cider is delicious, and the snacks are not overly sugary. Had a really good cranberry pecan ham sandwich after a nice bike ride on the nearby trail. Did not realize it was to be a panini when I picked it out of the case and therefore was a little peeved at the 15 min wait for it to be heated to go. Yes it took 15 minutes but yes it was good. They have a nice selection of Harney and Sons tea which I will definitely be back to purchase. They also make a better cappuccino than the Waterbury location (cough cough). Nice froth and flavor. (Speaking of Waterbury bashing, I enjoyed my sandwich so much I went a couple days later to the Waterbury location after a trip to Costco and did not find the same sandwiches there. And I left empty-handed.) Just a note, the sandwiches seem expensive but they are also gigantic. The prices for coffee are pretty steep, but I guess I would rather pay them than Starbucks. I had an enjoyable experience at Cheshire Coffee. As other reviews mentioned, the baristas seemed very welcoming and pleasant upon our arrival. I needed a few minutes to read their extensive menu and they were more than accommodating, rather than coming across as being impatient. That being said, their menu of various flavored lattes, mochas, hot chocolates, and chais is somewhat overwhelming. Several sounded delicious but I couldn't make up my mind as a result. I settled for a simple cup of black vanilla tea and a slice of red velvet cake. Both were good, though I thought that the cake could have been a bit more moist. I would order a different item next time. They had a decent selection of pastries and cookies, all for under $3. We thought the cake was a better choice because $3 for a cookie seemed pricey. Drink prices were on par with other coffee shops: tea and plain coffee were around $2 and fancier specialty drinks in larger sizes hovered around the $4 mark. The interior was pleasant and exceptionally clean. I visited the restroom and there were some paper towels scattered on the floor, so I was a little less impressed with their cleanliness. Overall the decor was nice: kind of nondescript modern. There are a few small tables in the front and some additional tables and more comfortable chairs in the back. Point to note: The store front is at the back of the building. There are signs on the main road directing you to the coffee shop, which is otherwise not visible from the street. read more

5 stars probably says more about the competition than it does Cheshire Coffee. It is a great coffee shop it just seems that somewhere there must be someplace better. I will have to keep looking. I concur with the other reviews. The coffee and the ambiance are way better than Starbucks, and the staff is terrific. I can't comment on the deserts, but the sandwiches are really special. The owner is a gourmet chef who makes them daily. If there is any disappointment it is that I don't get a chance to try anything else he could create. Not a complaint because if he took any of his sandwiches off the menu I would miss them. But I can see where I will eventually the limited selection will send me in search of something different. read more

Nice selection of drinks and the baristas are great, but it is too pricey! They raised the prices too much. It is no longer a place to stop in on a regular basis for a coffee. Also, they don't have enough patio tables, chairs and umbrellas and the grounds around the parking lot need to be cleaned and maintained. My girlfriend and I love to come here after running in the morning and it's my favorite coffee shop around! Today she dropped her coffee and one of the staff came right over to clean it up and made her a new one right away, free of charge! Always Friendly staff, and really tasty selections. I am almost never disappointed with Cheshire Coffee, if I am the baristas are always willing to make it right. All the workers are friendly & helpful, I've had very few times where I haven't liked something and the atmosphere is great. During the mornings/afternoons there's a rush, but most people don't stay. Sometimes at night it's really loud, but the later it gets the crowd dwindles down. The only item on the menu (I don't think it's there anymore) that I don't like is the Red Velvet Loaf Cake. It doesn't taste like Red Velvet anything. They're lattes are great, the green tea matcha latte is awesome, the food is good (pastries, bagels and sandwiches) and their selection of tea is extensive.
