When we were seated the wait person placed a basket of hushpuppies, and cinnamon rolls on the table. She took our drink order, and hurried off. Soon she returned to take our food order. My wife and I shared the seafood sampler, (Flounder, shrimp, oysters, scallops and deviled crab). Accompanied by coleslaw, and black-eyed peas. My wife doesn't eat much. I was determined not to leave any of the seafood behind! I left sooo full; but definitely happy. The final bill was good too. My suggestion is if you are within twenty minutes of Chesapeake House you need to eat here. read more

Honestly I'd rate higher except chestnut hill is right next door and was much better. You can't help but compare the two. Chesapeake house had a long wait (significantly longer than chestnut hill the night we ate there). The food was good but chestnut hill was significantly better. Our waitress when we told her what we were thinking about getting recommended we stay away from the seafood pie. So then we tried shrimp and grits which she warned us away from. Really enjoyed our visit to the Chesapeake House. Nice waterfront dining on a small pond. It's always exciting for the chance to see the alligators. We arrived on time for dinner for the 4 of us. There was ample parking and we were warmly greeted. We were taken tom our table and wee were fortunate to be on the windows on the water side. We immediately saw the turtle heads bobbing and the alligator looking around. We tried 2 of their adult beverages and enjoyed them. They provided the complimentary basket of hush puppies and cinnamon rolls baked on premise - yummy! We tried the firecracker shrimp appetizer and it was delicious and a very very hearty serving. We tried a number of items - the mahi, fried oysters and shrimp, and local blackened cobia ('Neptune' style - adding a sauce, crabmeat, 2 shrimp and 2 scallops). The servings of each dinner item was bigger that anyone could finish and all items were deemed delicious! The prices were more than reasonable. Service was very good too! read more

Saw the menu online and was so excited to go here for the very first time. Online I had I seen a Seafood pie that sounded amazing-creamy wine sauce with lobster, crab topped with Monterey cheese and bread crumbs. But what I got didn't meet that description at all. I was served a dish that tasted like buttery burnt bread crumbs. That's ALL I could taste! It was pitifully dry. I tried mixing it up a little bit to no avail. There was no " creamy wine sauce". I also saw some small salad shrimp in it so now I'm wondering "did it contain any lobster? Did it contain any crab?" Did they substitute shrimp for either or both? I couldn't tell as it had no taste other than the burnt bread crumbs. Server, who was excellent, took it away and removed it from our bill. As she carried it away, she commented that it didn't "look right" to her. Husband liked his seafood classic platter and gave me some of his fried shrimp. Such a very disappointing dinner considering I came here just to try this dish. Not sure if we will return. read more

Disappointed. In the past years I've enjoyed eating here but this time in October 2025 I did not. The size of the popular Fried Oysters was so small so it was mostly bread. Okra, the same. I see why this family owned restaurant has been in business for over 50 years, the customer service. It's PHENOMENAL! As soon as you enter, the southern hospitality just gushes out from every employee you encounter! We were told by a local that Chesapeake House served up some delicious seafood and was located on some water where alligators actually swim by a big glass window and customers can get a picture of them while you dine. Well wouldn't you know, as soon as we were seated, 2 literally glided by our table. Excellent photo opportunity! Our server, Bishop, brought over a basket of yummy hush puppies and cinnamon roll biscuits. To die for! He also brought us some complimentary fish stew. Also, delicious! We placed our order, I ordered the crab crakes, with fries and the house salad. My dinning companion ordered the fried shrimp and fries. I must say that I'm from Maryland and I know good crab cakes when I eat them and I judge them pretty hard. These weren't it. Way too much filler! I was pretty disappointed with them and didn't finish eating them. Hey Chesapeake House, come up to Maryland and I'll take you to a place that literally has NO filler, just jumbo lump crab meat. Nevertheless, I did enjoy my time at Chesapeake. Just wish I had ordered something else. My dinning companion enjoyed his shrimp. The portions are plentiful, the view is entertaining and the staff is very friendly. A wonderful combination. Would I come back, absolutely! I just wouldn't get those filler cakes anymore. If 0 stars were an option, I would have selected it. Wouldn't advise going to Chesapeake House unless you're with a tour bus. They cater to tour buses. Seated in a room with 95% tour bus patrons, you are not high on their agenda. You will wait to be served when all bus patrons have been taken care of. With a reservation and request to be seated by a window to look out over the pond, we were seated next to the emergency exit. Tour bus patrons use this exit to leave the restaurant, so the door is constantly open, even on 40 degree evenings. read more

Ok folks....Do you remember how good we all thought Ponderosa was good back in the day? Well, if you are wanting to reminisce about those good Ol' days back at the Rosa stop here. Granted there's no buffet but the Steak tips, chicken tenders and grilled chicken will take you back. I am usually able to quickly describe my meals but this one has me stumped. This spot honestly reminded me of something from the late 70's/early 80's. I mean, who walks into a restaurant that still has carpet? Teal carpet at that. If you want that old school feeling, like taking grandma out for a Sunday meal.....stop here and make sure you bring grandma. I would like to say our server was super nice and friendly. The restaurant also had the whole seating and getting the tables turned down to a science but I wouldn't expect less since it looks like they've been operating in the same manner since 1973. read more

And the tartar sauce might be the best on the planet. The seafood chowder is known far and wide. We have been going to this place for decades when on vacation. Consistently great food! We got the early bird seafood platter this time. Flounder, shrimp and deviled crab were excellent. Shell, our waitress was wonderful. We enjoy that this restaurant overlooks a pond. We saw an alligator swimming in the pond this time. We used to eat at this restaurant when I was younger and I have always have good memories. I had forgotten that instead of plain bread, they bring hushpuppies and cinnamon rolls before you order. I ordered two choices-scallops and fried clam strips. The waiter suggested three choices because the clam strips are bountiful. I stayed with the two and I certainly received a lot and could not eat them all. My daughter got crab cakes and shared half of one with me. A baked potato was also included. We could never have a better server than we had tonight at Chesapeake House! Her name is Chelle! She was very friendly, polite and kind! Came back to us maybe 5 times to make sure we have everything we needed. Even brought extra ice for the sweet tea. Offered great advice from the menu when we had questions. Very efficient!
