The host is really bad there.They treat the other customers extremely bad as long as they are full house. I called them before I arrived. They said there were two tables available. When I arrived, there was one group in front of us. They directly hosted that one group and ignored us all. We understood it was first come first serve. But they did not tell us they no longer accepted new customers although it was one hour before closing. We just stood there like idiots and no one told us anything. We waited for a long time until I walked inside their office and they told us they no longer accept other customers. As a Chinese, I really miss home and want to taste the authentic Chinese food. However, it was a poor experience and I don't recommend anyone to come here because they don't value their customers at all. read more

This was my go to Sichuan restaurant prior to covid because is was an upscale restaurant that used classic techniques with genuine ingredients. Their upstairs dinning area is quaint and has a perfect traditional feel for a great experience. Once covid hit, it went to heck. The food quality significantly dropped from 5 stars to 1 star. It became mediocre Americanized fare. Last night was the first time back in a few months. The food was back to its amazing flavors. The Szechuan Spicy Fried Shrimp with Vegetables 干锅虾 is my personal favorite and it is back to spectacular. The taroroot, cauliflower, and shrimp are balanced in a masterful blend of peppers that light up every sense on your tongue. Country Style Sliced Pork with Shishito 小炒肉 perfectly complements the fire of the Szechuan shrimp with the more subtle shishito peppers and fatty pork. The Pungent and Spicy Chicken 藤椒鸡 is just a simple classic dish with great flavor. My only complaint at this point is it is time to bring back the nice dishes and improve service. I get there are staffing issues and the cost of labor is insane. I'll take amazing food in takeout dishes over the crappy food from last year. I used to come here often because the food taste was decent. However, after my experience this time, I would no longer come to this place and would not recommend this place to any of my friends. I came here for dinner with a big group of people so we booked a private room which requires a minimum bill of 500 dollars. Given that we spent so much for the room, I was expecting at least a decent service. However, what we have experienced was unacceptable: 1. After they served the cold dishes, we waited at least 40 minutes for the hot dishes to come. We asked the servers and they told us, "we saw you guys were drinking. We were waiting for you to finish drinking before serving the hot dishes". I really don't get the logic of this. Why do we need to finish drinking before having the hot dishes? At least, they should ask us for the preference. 2. There was no server in the room during the dinner. We requested to get more water a couple times but our requests were ignored. 3. They told us they are about to close so we need to rush and leave. Since we are still finishing up the last couple drinks, we told them they can start collecting plates that's done and we just need them to leave one plate for the table. Apparently one of the girl server was very angry at this. I was rotating the tray and she yelled at me, "Stop!". I was shocked at how bad her attitude is. In addition, she told my friend who's eating the last plate, "If you want to eat, just get it at your home!" In general, the service we got was unacceptable and the attitude the girl server was showing is very unprofessional. The food here is superb, per usual. However, dishes come out in chipped or cracked plates. I brought clients here for a business lunch and was extremely embarrassing when my clients pointed out how unprofessional it was to serve food on chipped plates. When we pointed it out the servers apologized but didn't offer to change the dishes or transfer them to different ones. Drove all the way over from West LA to try this place out and was very disappointed. I can overlook the paper plates, but what really bothered me was that all the food came out lukewarm, as if they'd been sitting out for a while. The noodles in Dan Dan noodles were clumped very clumped together, the braised beef tendon with bamboo shoots had formed a film on top of the broth by the time it arrived at our table, and the fish in pickled broth was hot but not steaming hot. The staff was EXTREMELY nice. Don't forget, this is Chinese culture.. the waiters aren't going to be waiting on you hand and foot, but if you get their attention, they'll take care of you. Just make sure that you contact the waiter, not the other way around. I am a lover of spicy food, and this place really makes authentic, spicy Sichuan cuisine. They have Sapporo on tap, which is a huge plus in my book. Yes, you can order a pitcher of beer for your table. One of the things I noticed is that because of COVID, they serve in to-go containers. Everyone found new restaurant through Yelp! But some Yelper's reviews are ridiculously rude. They do not respect the food, not value the restaurant owner's time and effort. Please check the menu before you walk in. When I read the reviews, surprisingly the bad comments are very unreasonable. If you want $6 AYCE Chinese buffet, go for it. This restaurant is NOT your type. If you want high quality of food with nice and clean dining environment, this is a very good one. And I highly recommend it. Guys, high end Chinese restaurants never are cheap, It is a common sense! However, If you never travelled globally or have an international open mind, you would have no idea what it look like. You could only compare it with Panda Express, free white rice with beef broccoli can fulfill you completely. I took a friend of mine to Chengdu Impression 2 weeks ago, had Chef's Choice Menu for two. Came with my husband, baby and parents to try one of the prefixed menus. Waitresses were very sweet. Recommend sitting upstairs, patio has great view. Food was good but imo pricier than what it was worth. Be sure to have lots of time - this dinner (9 courses) took forever in between each course. Not ideal for having a newborn lol. I really hope a search engine genius thought "hey there's Szechuan Impression and Chengdu Taste, let's combine the two and hope we get all of their business!" Ordered: 五香卤肉 Spiced braised pork. A welcome starter, stuff your face with tenderized pork, and baby dry spices. Bun-to-pork ratio was slightly low but no biggie, quite soft and well marinated, flavor fades toward the end, the flavor actually gets lost somewhat quickly. Favorite thing I ordered 水煮牛柳 Water boiled beef tenderloin / spicy beef. The star of the show, did not disappoint in its solid kick of numb/mala spicy, 炸酱面 Black sesame noodles / Zhajiangmian. Vegetarian style, very thin noodles, and side ingredients come beautifully laid out on the side 花椒豆腐鱼 Sichuan pepper fish+tofu (Spicy fish with house tofu in broth) A relatively mild soup sprinkled with peppercorns, the tofu quality was a little lacking 榶醋 Marinated cucumber They also spent quite a lot of effort on renovating the building, which is great, and seem to have a bunch of artwork from local artists. The menu though is silghtly disappointing in lacking some favorites, such as water boiled fish and toothpick lamb. They decided to tack on things like Chengdu style vegetarian zhajiangmian which I feel like a good way to mislead people out of the good stuff. Maybe it's the lack of exploration but there were no crazy-good-looking innovations. Came at lunch on a weekend, so could order a la carte. No idea if they still have tasting-menu only at dinner weekends, or if it's free now. But they actually didn't mention the tasting menu until the very end nor give any indication that it existed. Also found that they have tea time between 2:30-5PM. But if it was a $45/57 deal, that would make it a solid 3 and not mid 3.5. I actually don't know why a good Sichuan place would NEED to propel itself into the $$$ range, unless they found some magic mala sauce (in which case sent my way immediately). Ordering 5 dishes and way too many for 3 people, was about $80. Ordering normal portions would probably be $20 a person. Service was actually fine speed. The only thing that was a tad slow was getting out the first appetizers, otherwise everything was fine and our waiter was very attentive and helpful. Final opinion, despite hometown bias and general noobness, Chengdu Taste/Szechuan Impression are both better choices, and Szechuan Impression at least has a similar level of modernity in its decor and menu, so it somewhat falls short of a 4. read more

Although the food here still reminds me of my childhood as well as my grandmother's cooking, the management needs improvement. I am a proud Chinese-American but am ashamed of what Chinese people have become in recent years. This place attracts a lot of these ill-mannered customers who give no care to proper public etiquette while living in the U.S. In any enclosed establishment, especially a restaurant that has infants, toddlers, and children, there should be ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING allowed near the entrance, let alone INSIDE THE DAMN RESTAURANT. Chinese customers would smoke at their tables, drink, curse, and act like scum from the slums. My family and I frequent here for the food but have trouble dealing with many of the customers here during rush. The manager/servers allow Chinese customers to smoke inside the restaurant. Why? Because they have a lot of dirty laundered money? Because their bill is in the hundreds? I cannot condone that my toddler is always subject to second-hand smoke while INSIDE a restaurant each time we eat here. I have tried talking to the manager and employees, but they claim they can't do anything about it. At one point, I even had to threaten to call the fire department before someone finally stepped up to tell the garbage to go smoke outside. Please do not allow shameless loyalty to money cloud your judgment about the safety of the other 75% of your patrons. One expensive table for that one night is not a good trade for loyal customers who eat here almost 10 times a month. A beautiful new restaurant with serious problems with its business model. Ate here last night, four of us total, no alcohol, no choice of menu, bill was $250.00 with tax and tip. This will be a real problem going forward. Let's start with the renovated building. Beautiful and architecturally pleasing. Parking on 1st Street and in rear of building is plentiful. Nice open air space on 2nd floor rear. 1st floor rear will soon be a full bar, but liquor license has not yet been granted. Dinner menu was 100% prix fixe as shown in my attached photos. $45 per person for about 6 courses. Selection from a la carte menu only available at lunchtime. $45 was honestly too much for the quality of the food. Due to the kitchen's need to pre cook such a fixed menu, everything was warm, but nothing was hot. That was truly disappointing. Of the six courses, the first was the best with the smaller appetizers, and the Szechuan fish was very good, if not hot off the stove can qualify as such. The spicy wontons were good, but not great. The rest of the dishes were decent, but not for $250 bucks. We were disappointed the liquor license was not yet active, but I would probably have rated the restaurant even lower if $250 had turned to $300 with a mediocre bottle of wine. No way 2 couples will regularly spend $300 for a prix fixe menu of simply mediocre food. Nothing we bit into screamed, "OMG this is delicious!" To survive in the Chinese restaurant market of SGV, this restaurant will have to change its business model. They spent a ton of money on this restaurant remodel, but it will all flush down the toilet if they can't figure out how to serve 4 people for less than $250 for casual dining. read more

A solid five star place! I'm so so happy I found a decent & true delicious place to bring my friends and clients to enjoy my hometown cruisine. Parking is very convenient, there is a pretty spacious parking lot just behind this place. The decor is nice as a gallery style - guess those painting works come from their local artists. Service is amazing. I don't have any problem on the waiting time - like other review mentioned. Probably because I arrived on a weekday night. Servant are all very attentive and respond fast enough. We enjoyed chef menu a lot - with such a large variety, and also not too oily at all. My favorite dishes are pork belly, mushrooms and chilly oil fish. Especially the pork belly is really impressive - the tenderness while can be also chewy, the fat part melted and spreaded in your month...definitely your must-go-to dish. This 1-star review solely goes to the male waiter in all black dress shirt and pants, which I assume he was the manager of that night since his outfit was different than other waiters. We came in on Sunday night around 6:30. It wasn't busy at all and there were lots of empty tables. We sat next to the POS machine upstairs. Though the food came a bit slowly but it's totally fine. After 2-3 dishes were served, our steamed rice still wasn't served yet. Since it's Sichuan food, spicy and salty, we did need our rice so we asked one waitress to check for us. We did order rice in the beginning along with other food. For another 15-20 minutes, when all dishes were on the table, the rice still wan't there yet. So I asked this specific male manager again when he's operating the POS machine next to our table. I asked nicely, "excuse me." He didn't turn his head or answer so I asked again, "excuse m..." Before I finished my words, he turned with a madly frowning face along with a very impatient "WHAT??!!" "What just happened?!", this was my first thought after I saw his face and heard his response. I was shocked that we got to be treated this way. All my friends couldn't believe it either since we were simply asking nicely and friendly for rice. If there is any problem with the rice, such as it's still cooking, that would be completely acceptable for us. However, there was no explanation and we were not rude to them at all. They just replied "okay" after we asked. Besides, as I said above, it was not busy at all that night. All waiters seemed relaxed and chilled because they were often on the cellphones in front of us. This type of service is unbelievable and unacceptable at all since we didn't do anything wrong or discourteous. I was sorely disappointed with my entire experience at Chengdu Impression. Was in Arcadia for the Moonlight Festival at the Arb, hosting out of town visitors also and since I had heard good things about Chengdu Impression, I decided to bring the group here for dinner after. Everything about this meal was just wrong. Waitstaff took forever to take our order - I think we waited at least 20 - 30 minutes to even get our order in. They ran out of many of the items we wanted to order, so the waitress suggested some substitutions. Using my Chinglish, I agreed. Food came out painfully slow. We were waiting a long time for one last dish, which he waitress had recommended to us, but turns out she never even put the order in. On top of that, the waitstaff seemed upset that we were one of the last groups remaining in the restaurant, even though it was their mistake for taking so long with our order and getting our food out. The only good dish we had was the beef in spicy oil which was tasty. But I could've passed on the green beans, dumplings, cucumber salad, and pig ear. We also were down one dish so we left even more hungry! In terms of venue, I liked the modern look and feel of it but that doesn't make up for the subpar food and horrendous service. Highly recommend this newly remodeled Sichuan restaurant in Arcadia. I gave 10 out of 5! It serves Sichuan cuisine that infused with Cantonese cuisine. All food is so fresh and delicious Really enjoyed the new decoration style of this restaurant and loved the new seafood dishes. Service was spectacular and fun place to bring family and friends to eat and party. On top of amazing authentic Sichuan dishes, they also serve Cantonese seafood favorites such as steamed garlic Alaskan king crab, geoduck sashimi and ginger and scallion lobster. I highly highly recommend the crispy chicken, its scrumptious, crispy, numbingly spicy in the best way possible.
