Everything about our breakfast at the Chef's Hat was outstanding - amazing service, wonderful outdoor seating, and incredible food. The food was delicious. I had the southwest scramble which was covered with some really yummy salsa and guacamole. They offer homemade jam with your toast or you can also sub (for free) a scone of the day or chocolate crossiant. You cannot beat the prices here in comparison to others in the door county area. Had breakfast here for the first time this weekend. The Lox and the tuna over a bed of greens with multiple fresh and wild mushrooms was super good. The blood orange vinaigrette dressing over it is the perfect match. Subtle but flavorful. Like the option of herbed bread or chocolate croissant instead of your typical bread. I came for lunch at 1:50pm and was told that the kitchen closes at 2pm. Nowhere on Yelp/Google does it state that. I felt so rushed during my meal that I left at 2:15pm. I ordered the Turkey BLT and the slices of bread were cold - most disappointing meal ever. read more

What a delicious gem! We stopped in for breakfast on New Years Day. The breakfast menu was so diverse, from the traditional fare to more unique skillets. The atmosphere felt like we were having breakfast in a friends dining room. Although the food was delicious and the portions were filling, the best part was the service. Our server, Mary, was so pleasant. For example, we had two small travel thermos that we put instant hot chocolate in. We asked Mary if she could fill them with hot water. Man did she exceed our expectations by offering to fill them with steamed milk and whipped cream. What a delicious surprise!!! We will be back again tomorrow! read more

What a sweet place is. Stayed in the area for the first time and this was within walking distance from our resort. The food was good but the service was outstanding. Comfort food for foodies (and everyone else). Have been here multiple times over the years as there are not a ton of options in Ephraim (although getting better). The owners have nailed the mix of a high quality, interesting menu with the laid back feel of sitting by Eagle Harbor. I'm a particular fan of the meatloaf (rumored to be a family recipe from way back). But as others have said, breakfast never disappoints, but I've enjoyed a bunch of different sandwiches. I was so excited when Ephraim finally allowed alcohol sales. The owners immediately added a respectable wine/beer/drinks list. Overpriced food and really long wait. Arrived before lunch was served so we waited over an hour and when the owner or manager asked how was everything he just smugly apologized and walked away. Would not return. Adorable setting but very disappointing experience. read more

Return trip for a rehearsal dinner for a wedding - it was a "restaurant takeover" as we had the entire place. We had appetizers outside before dinner. The bruschetta was very good, service was attentive. Dinners were brought out promptly. The chicken salad was ok - kinda dry. The fish was excellent - a tilapia with mango salsa and risotto. I had the burger - a little dry but good flavor. Desert was great - you cannot beat their pie! This place has the best coffee around - finally a restaurant with coffee with some body to it! Pumpkin Pear soup and half a sandwich mine was chicken salad a Little dry could of used a bit more mayo but liked the red grapes in It. Potato salad also needed s little more zing maybe do some mustard with it also potatoes needed to be cooked longer I'm not a fan of al dente potatoes . Jim's burger was good a little bloody for med well . Should of let the burger rest a little before putting on The bun. This is the best restaurant in Door county period. Have eaten there often with others and all love the food. My favorite is the meatloaf. Unbelievable. Breakfast lunch and dinner are equally outstanding and the views can't be beat. read more

Service was cheerful and helpful, but the restaurant was very slow to deliver the food to the table. About 45 minutes to get the appetizer, and then another wait for the main course. Lots of tables were waiting and waiting. They had a "help wanted" sign out front, so they may be short staffed (as many places are during this time). Food was okay but not worth the wait. read more

Not sure what the hype is; its a great environment with outdoor seating near the water, but the food quality is mediocre. Were this a $10 burger joint, it would have exceeded expectations, but for the price I would expect better quality food to go with the view. Very small draft selection. read more

Chefs hat is a good place to go with your family or friends. It is a laid back place that has a pretty good view of the water. My meal was a little over cooked but the flavor made up for it ( p.s eggs need seasoning). The service was good but laid back. I went here for breakfast and got the Asparagus Supreme Scramble. There were a ton of veggies mixed in with the eggs. The eggs were not overcooked, and they were kind enough to substitute fruit for the toast. I would have given five star, but I got the coffee. Stopped in on Monday night around 7:15. Asked for an order to go and the hostess said they weren't offering to-go orders that night (I'm not sure what's different about putting food on a plate vs. in a box) so then I asked if I could sit outside as I noticed only about half of the outdoor tables were filled. She said they wjere only seating people inside (seemed strange as there were a number of tables open outside). I agreed to sit inside. Service was good; I ordered the beef brisket which tasted fresh. I would go back for the food but would encourage the restaurant to rethink their to go orders and outdoor seating. With Covid, I would think all restaurants would use their outdoor seating to the extent possible. read more

We ate an early lunch at Chef's Hat and it was incredible! I had the salmon sandwich and my sister got the bacon burger. Both were flavorful and cooked so well. The chips on the side were also super yummy. We sat outside on the patio and had a truly lovely time. The service was a little slow so wouldn't recommend if you are in a rush but this was an amazing spot for a laid back meal with a great view of the lake. Would love to come back and try the other items on the menu next time I am in Door County! read more
