This used to be my favorite Chinese takeout place they have the best hot and sour soup outside of New York City. Today's order where stream extremely disappointing the hot and sour soup was sweet wasn't hot nor was it sour. The barbecue spare ribs that used to be served in a foil lined paper bag in order to reheat no longer existed the ribs that I received today were doused in barbecue sauce which that too had never been in the past and they were extremely fatty. The problem with Chinese Restaurants is that they don't feel welcoming. You ever go to these random China Wok type joints in large strip plazas? The ones with the big picture menus and the 2 or 3 tables? Every time I walk into one of these greasy places, I feel like I'm interrupting something, or that I'm not welcome. I know they want me to order and get the hell out... The tables are just for show. Well, Chef Li doesn't give off that vibe at all. In fact, and as the previous Yelpers have stated, the staff is very warm and welcoming. Upon walking in, they made us feel as if we had been there 100 times before. The staff actually knew other customers by name, and that's always a good sign! The decor is very appealing visually, and the restaurant doesn't smell like straight up grease. As for the food, it's delicious. Order the General Tso chicken (see pic) and you won't be let down. This ain't no mechanically separated chicken mcnugget meat covered in thick batter to disguise it's hideous appearance. This is pure white meat chicken. Big, thick, juicy pieces of chicken served with broccoli and a cup of white rice. The flavor is amazing. The chica had chicken lo mien, which was equally as good and plentiful. Neither of us could finish out food. Tonight was our first time, but due to the total perfection of the dining experience, we will be dropping a lot of coin up in that piece! read more

Arrived Chef Li to pick up my order, I found out they relocated the restaurant couple doors down. I was shocked by 2 factors. The restaurant is compacted into 4 small dinning table. The dinning room is very bright that feels awkward for sit-down patrons. After brief chat with the staffs, I found out that the reason they sized it down is to reduce the stake of high rental. Chef Li is now a takeout shop. On Tampa road oldsmar area, there are 2 worth mention takeout shops, Cyber Takee Outee and East Lake Takee Outee. Both are excellent fast food joint. The only two sit-down Chinese restaurant were Chef Li and Big Bok Choy Bistro. There are competitions. I compared menus among Chef Li, Cyber and East Lake. The price difference among accustom food are about 20 to 50 cents difference. Chef Li's price is actually in the middle range. However Chef Li has an eclectic menu that including Chef's special which some of the dishes you don't find at other takeout shops. Personally, I think Chef Li's cooking is more towards to authentic Cantonese cooking which emphasis on high quality ingredients and less use of grease. For the price he changes, it is a steal. For the flavor and quality of the food, he is several notch up. It is a steal. I was disappointed Chef Li closed the sit-down section. I hope he does well at the new location. Chef Li is now my first choice for take out. He deserves it. Support the local business. read more

There are some Chinese Restaurants in the area that make a good dish and the rest of their menu is okay, but Chef Li is hands down the best Chinese Restaurant in the area. A coworker told us about Chef Li and since our first order we keep coming back as everything we have tried is fantastic. We order from them at least once a week. I recommend the Orange Chicken, Bourbon Chicken, and the Garlic Broccoli. We went here for lunch based on a few of the reviews praising the dim sum - coming from Los Angeles, I can tell you that what they serve is NOT dim sum even the woman at the counter said we don't have real dim sum. That being said, I ordered roast pork lo mein and my partner ordered orange chicken - both dishes were tasty and plentiful and for the price very reasonable and adequate. However, what was disappointing was we were expecting a sit down meal - yes they do have tables - all 4 of them - however based on the reviews here we were expecting a real restaurant. Over all, I would have given this place 3 stars, but the disappointment with not having real dim sum, not being a real sit down and of all the things that bothered us most was the choice for lunch meals: Egg roll, soup or soda? Really? A soda instead of an egg roll or soup? Lots of potential here but if you are looking for a good sit down restaurant this isn't it. Chef li is back and open for business! They've relocated a few doors down and are now literally squeezed into the spot between the fedex store and the phone store. They've also scaled down their restaurant. There are maybe 4 tables in their dining room. I overheard the woman behind the counter say they no longer have a dish machine so dine-in orders will be served in Togo containers. All that aside, the food is still damn tasty. I ordered the sesame chicken combo and wonton eggdrop soup. The chicken was delicious! I could even tell it was chicken by looking at it! Some Chinese takeout places serve breaded chunks of mystery meat (the mystery being whether there is even chicken in it) There was very little breading, if any, and that was fine by me! The wontons in the soup were amazing! As was the soup itself. When placing my order, I was asked if I wanted an extra egg roll and that it was complimentary. Um, yes please! I was recently looking to try a new lunch place and stumbled upon this establishment. They have a great lunch menu for $5.35, hard to beat that! It also includes either an egg roll or soup. I always order to go and have never been disappointed. So far I have tried the teriyaki chicken, bourbon chicken, sweet and sour chicken and lo mein with shrimp. I cant believe how much food they give you! This meal is enough for two meals for me. All were very tasty, but I have to say my favorite so far has been the teriyaki chicken. The shrimp lo mein was good, but it was a lot of starch having the lo mein and fried rice...not enough protein hehe. I always get the egg roll, it is sooooo good! I don't know how the food is, but the customer service is awful. I called to ask for delivery. I'm only 4.5 miles away. I was going to pay the delivery, since once of my friends said the food is good. After 5 mins telling spelling my address.. She told me the wouldn't deliver here cause it's 5 miles away. I checked my map and it said 4.5... So I guess after 5 mins telling my address, she couldn't get it and put it all wrong? Anyway they lost my business that night... I LOVE Chef Li. It is my go to neighborhood Chinese NYC style take out place. I have to tell you that it is so much more that that though. I feel like I am eating fancy food from take out wear. It is fresh, it is flavorful, it is made to order. The people who own this place, Patty and Chef Li, are lovely human beings and I think that puts it over the top. These are hardworking business owners who care about their customers and who care about quality food. The food is ready in a flash, the place is clean, it is unbelievably cheap. My favorite is the sesamee chicken and the wonton soup. They also have delightful dumplings and dim sum. My mom really enjoys the orange chicken here. I have also had great seafood dishes including the kung pao shrimp--shrimp as big as your head. You won't regret your stop here. read more

I order the orange chicken there once a week. I was so used to regular Chinese food that I wasn't prepared for the greatness of chef li. I immediately noticed from cutting the orange chicken that this chicken was realer than your favorite mc. After the first bite I wasn't sure if I wanted to cry or call my mom to explain my overwhelmed emotions from having the greatest orange chicken ever. I chose both options by the way. Chef Li is overall good. Definitely one of the better Chinese take-outs. We tried them for the first time last week, a change from our regular go to place. The food seems less greasy and better quality then some others. I liked the Moo Shu Pork better than our regular go to place, the Vegetable Spring Roll was just ok - there was a hint of a flavor I wasn't fond of (I like the vegetable spring roll better at our regular go to place), the Boneless Ribs were great, and the Chicken Chow Mei Fun had good flavor for being a rather simple noodle dish (better than our regular go to place). We ordered through Uber eats, only thing is they seemed to be out of some items. For example we wanted to order the small size Teriyaki Beef Sticks appetizer, only the large size was listed on Uber Eats. We also wanted to order a Chow Fun noodle dish and it all said out of stock on Uber Eats. Again overall good and would order from here again. read more

My new go-to Chinese restaurant. Excellent quality, shrimp are fresh and big. The Dim Sum are actually Shu Mi, which I love. Tastes just like it came off the Dim Sim cart. My friend ordered steak and vegetables and she got a rare (she asked for rare) rib eye steak over the vegetables - we both were impressed. The only con is the place is small and really isn't suited to dine in; however, I have and the staff has always been friendly. I order from Chef Li at least twice a week. read more
