The Man and I decided to hit Chef Fredy's Table with another couple for a weeknight treat. Having never been there, we didn't know what to expect. All we knew were the reviews were great and it's BYOB. That they offered a great prix fix menu sealed the deal. We made a reservation for 5:30 on a Thursday night and arrived right on time. We were shown to a table near the window so we could do some people-watching while we waited. We started off with a round of starters - salads and grilled octopus (I don't see in on the menu right now, boo). For our main courses, The Man opted for the filet while I had crab cakes. There was almost no wait between when we finished our starters and when our entrees were brought out to us. Since the restaurant wasn't overly crowded, we were really able to take our time enjoying our dinners. Since we had ordered different things, we were able to sample from each other's plates. My crab cakes were divine. Fried crispy on the outside, but the crab mixture on the inside was moist and delicious. The filets were outstanding - perfectly medium rare, tender, and juicy. The combination of the delicious food and the romantic atmosphere made for a supremely enjoyable evening. I would imagine the restaurant is pretty busy on weekends, but early evening on a weeknight definitely allows for a more leisurely meal. We left Fredy's after our dinner and have every intention of returning. Great food, great ambiance, and great service made for an enjoyable night out in Morristown. read more

The restaurant had high ratings so 3 of us thought we'd give it a try. Ordered a Caesar salad and goat cheese ravioli appetizer to share; the salad was tasteless and they served only 3 ravioli! We also ordered 2 sea bass and 1 roasted chicken entrees; the sea bass were under seasoned and the risotto sides were dried lumps! The waiter's response to our complaint was "most people like what you ordered"! $150 + tip...we won't be going back!!! read more

I've done both takeout AND dined in here....either way I've never had a bad meal! It's BYOB and the outdoor dining space they've set up is the patio that was used by the former Pazzo Pazzo restaurant. Came here for a date night and unfortunately got caught in a 10 minute downpour while eating our dinner lol. Regardless of that, all the staff hustled to get everyone covered by an umbrella while maintaining Covid safety standards. Also, this restaurant has done some amazing community outreach work during the pandemic, providing food to those unable to afford it during these difficult times. They did catering for a corporate event we hosted at a nearby paint studio. Service was top notch and so was the food! They were so easy to work with and super accommodating. They made it easy for me to relax during my event knowing the catering and services were being handled. They even went above and beyond for me because I am dairy free and needed a specific meal. They went back to the restaurant and brought me a dairy free meal to enjoy even though I hadn't requested up front. Really amazing! We will definitely use them for catering again in the future. read more

Had New Years Eve dinner here. The food and service was EXCELLENT!!! Our waiter/host Luis was so helpful in choosing our order. He was very attentive and friendly. After dessert I mentioned that I'm visiting my elderly father in NYC this weekend and he would love the cheesecake so I ordered one. He was kind enough to give it to me on the house... Went for NYE. We realized last minute that we didn't have plans, found this place on yelp and hoped for the best. When we called, the host couldn't be kinder. We were able to get in and are so glad we did. First of all. The place is a BYOB! The food is pricey so being able to bring your own wine helps keep the cost down. The atmosphere is nice. It is a small space with many tables yet didn't seem too loud or crowded. We were originally placed near the windows which was a little chilly. We asked to move and, even though it was crowded NYE, they accommodated us. The servers are professional and the waitstaff were always there giving you more bread (which is delicious) or water when needed. The food was great. We shared the calamari which was amazing and the artichoke which was also tasty. Seriously though, get the calamari! I ordered the filet which could have used a tad more Gorgonzola (but I also just love Gorgonzola!). Two in our party ordered the short ribs. I tried those and definitely recommend. Another ordered the duck and said it was cooked perfectly. All entrees came with veggies and mashed potatoes which were good. They also come with a beautiful orchid, something I loved :). We ended with key lime pie (unique and tasty), death by chocolate (almost too rich for my liking) and the brownie sundae which was great. They do cute artwork in your mochas too :) The place is pricey but the items all come with sides and its a BYOB so that helps keep cost down. I decide to give a try at this restaurant because of the good reviews on yelp, so I made a reservation and went with my mom. First of all, the restaurant didn't feel very clean and the waiter looked a little surprised when we were walking in (it was around 6 pm on a workday). So we didn't feel welcomed at all walking into the restaurant. Also when we walked in, we were the only customers in the entire restaurant, and the waiter decided to let us sit right by the door, literally the worst table you can ever get (I made a reservation even...) Then after we got seated for about 15 minutes, a group of people (about 8 people) came in for a business dinner. The waiter let the group of people sit right next to us. These people were drinking a lot and very loud because. My point is among all the empty tables, the waiter had to put us two tables together.... The waiter should have a better idea on arranging tables for different dining occasions. In terms of food, we ordered 2 clam chowder, a lobster ravioli, a fish dish. The fish was ok. The ravioli and clam chowder were both fishy. We barely could finish it. Didn't order dessert because was super disappointed by everything else. I mean, this is not a very cheap restaurant, but the food is very not worth the price. Won't come back again. read more

We had an excellent meal at Tim Schafer's last weekend. Everything we tried was innovative, made to perfection and the portion sizes were huge. From the apps, we ordered the Baked Brie in a Toasted Nut Crust, Scallops (special that day) and a Quail dish that was also a special of the day (not the same one as the dinner menu). The Brie served with toasted bread had a melt in the mouth goodness, the scallops were delicious and my friends loved the quail too. I got the Barramundi with large shrimp served with Chinese black rice (daily special) and it was yummy. The fish was flaky, creamy and so fresh! Hands down, everyone agreed it was the best dish on the table. Loved every bite. It went well with the black rice. The shrimp was grilled well, but it paled in comparison to the silky fish. The husband got the Shark shank with ginger risotto - another daily special. It was quite an unusual preparation and I'm not a fan of steaky fish, but he liked it. The ginger risotto was delish. Our friends had the Mahi Mahi, blackened and served with jasmine rice and the Pork Osso Bucco. I loved the blackened Mahi Mahi, it's one of my favorite fish and it was fresh and made well. Since I don't eat pork, didn't try the Osso Bucco, but my friend polished his off. For the desserts, we got the Key Lime Pie, Bread Pudding served with Vanilla ice cream, Brownie and Death by Chocolate. Just a heads up, the desserts are huge and we couldn't finish everything. They were all nice, nothing exceptional that you haven't had before. The service was top notch. (Byob) read more

been here two times and the food and service never disappoints. Decided to drop in with a group of 7 on the day Morristown was celebrating their St. Patrick's Day parade. Luckily everyone was busy getting drunk at the nearby bars so Chef Fredy's was pretty empty. Our server Luis was the best! He's funny, friendly and awesome at recommending food suggestions. Some of the meals we ordered were -Butternut squash ravioli special -Pork chops -Oysters -Calamari All the food is fresh and has tons of flavor. Trivia Question: Who owns Tim Schafer's? Answer: Not Tim Schafer. I had dinner here one day before I met the guy at the Garden State Beer Festival and he confided he hadn't owned the restaurant for over 8 years! Maybe it's just me, but unless my restaurant were part of a chain, I'd be making damn sure my name wasn't on it if I didn't own it. Ok, onto the dinner experience. I bought a $15 Yelp deal for $30 to spend. Even after that and BYOB, the bill was outrageous. This place is expensive. I liked the pale ale vinaigrette on the house salad. Unique and tasty, even though it was $8. The jumbalaya was delicious, but $32? Ouch. The other two in my party were happy with their mixed grill plates. They better have been for $35 each. Same for the person who ordered the the lobster tail special for $40. The desserts - crunch torte and bread pudding - were both good. $8 each. Even with the Yelp deal and BYOB, the four of us still spent over $210 total, tip included. Will I go back? Maybe once the new owner (Chef Freddy) associates his name with the business and lowers the prices. read more

Very nice! Attended a private dinner for work - we had over 70 people attend. Passed appetizers were fabulous - mini crab cakes, shrimp, chicken & beef skewers, meatballs, etc. All were delish! For dinner we had a 3 course dinner - started w/salad, then for dinner I had the Beramundi fish - awesome white light fish served over mashed potatoes, & then an assortment of pastries for dessert. Chef Freddy is nailing it folks. 5 star menu, 5 star service, without pretense in a neat town. Honestly if the service were any better then it would just become annoying. It's perfect! I love this BYOB that is all about the food! The menu features choices for those who are wild about seafood or meat highlighted by delicacies like truffle and foie gras. Also featured are classic versions of dishes for the less adventurous. Everyone will be happy at Chef Freddy's! It was real busy on a Saturday night. Service is attentive but a bit slow at times especially when awaiting to order. Yet the restaurant inside and out were not excessively busy this one night in comparison to weekends. Dishes are presented beautifully but there is always one disappointment. The veal chop stunningly presented, was a bit dry and potentially overcooked. However the accompanying sauce was delicious. The special zucchini blossoms did not resemble anything fresh, seasonal or bright per the typical preparation with a cornmeal batter. The interior components may have been chopped blossoms but it was encased in a thick pastry sitting on top of a heavy red sauce with some type of mustard colored drizzle on the top. The paella was delicious but the clams and mussels were dried out. The lobster and shrimp were cooked perfectly and appeared to be fresh. Dinner for 2 was $150. read more

We heard of this restaurant word of mouth and looked forward to trying it. We were not disappointed. It has and upbeat atmosphere, but at the same time as cozy feel and vibe. We were immediately seated and greeted by our waiter, Luis. He had a warm and engaging personality and treated us as family. He had thorough knowledge of the menu, specials and recommended our appetizer of raviolis, each prepared with a different sauce. Our dinner choices were to our liking, surf and turf and the jambolaya. Both were cooked to satisfaction and nice portion. We finished with desert of Tartuffo and bread pudding and were completely satisfied. We look forward to returning and highly recommend! read more

Mediocre meal at high prices. Wait staff was extremely friendly and charming, until it came time to one of the guest's birthday's. We had called WEEKS before and the SAME day to mention that it was this person's birthday. When dessert came out, our waiter came out to sing happy birthday. One waiter. No candles. No dessert. Just one person quietly singing happy birthday. This was an important birthday and we had called multiple times in advance to make it a special day. Management could have either communicated to the waitstaff that this celebration was happening, or communicated to US that they would not be providing a candle or any dessert. We even offered to bring our own candle and were turned down. The restaurant clearly was not on top of it. I don't blame our waiter, but do blame the restaurant. read more

On 10/5 a party of apprx. 40 of us attended a family/friend luncheon following a memorial service for my dear friend's son. Our service was mixed...mostly negative. Considering we were one of two groups there (the other group had finished their meal and were about to leave), the service was very slow and waiter was unattentive and seemingly moody. We had to ask for everything: water, butter, rolls, lemons, etc. Other servers, however, were quite pleasant. One order took forever to be served and since it was a hamburger, we thought maybe it had been forgotten to be placed. Individually we received our bill and tip was included on some bills and not others..our waiter had no valid explanation. Kudos to the young man who was clearing the tables. He was super friendly. We experienced annoying gnats despite the restaurant was clean. We noticed that Chef Fredy came out to speak to the departing group but spoke next to nothing to our group. I must say Chef Fredy did seem very pleasant. Pros for our experience is the food was good. Being a BYOB is always a plus as the liquor store is next door. Despite above comments, I will not rule out trying Chef Fredys Table again. read more

I have never written a review in my life, but this place deserves one. The staff couldn't nicer and the food was phenomenal. We got the filet mignon and the chicken pappardelle. Out of this world!! Food was really excellent. However, we only had entrees and dessert. We would have liked to try the appetizers but were so turned off by the noise level that we decided to just get entrees. Hence the three stars. The place has TERRIBLE acoustics. High ceilings and nothing to absorb the sound. Service was OK. Entrees did not come out all at the same time and we had to ask four different waiters/busboys to get us a bottle of Pellegrino only to have a busboy pour regular water in the glass as he came around to refill the glasses. No desire to come back here. Just so relieved after we stepped outside and away from the noise inside. Not an enjoyable experience at all. read more

This place is great for special occasion! We bought out the whole restaurant for the night for the wedding rehearsal dinner and had about close to 100 people there. what I love is they offer a a wide array of table configurations. Everyone raved about the food! The crab cake, filet mignon, salmon were a BIG hit and desserts were delicious!  The owners and the wait staff didn't miss a beat, service was beyond excellent!! All the guests said they would go back there again on their own!  Thank you "Chef Fredy's Table " for helping us in making this special event so successful! Usually pretty good food but sometimes n g is amiss our last few times. Presentations were sloppy. Even though 1st course is quick the main and desert courses take forever, and getting a check and trying to leave forget it. A 1 hour and 45 minute meal turned out to be 2 hours and 20 minutes. Had to pay kid sitter extra. The prices are very high it's not really kid friendly. For having the lock on being the best for so long has made them complement. Cook at home you ll do just as well. I really wanted to like this place as I'm frequently in town and this place is conveniently located. Paella is a vibrant Spanish dish that derives much of its flavor from good saffron and the choice of proper rice. I'm not a purist and insist on Spanish rice from Valencia be used, good quality Arborio rice will do. You can get Arborio rice in any supermarket and saffron online. Also, some garlic and white wine will really amp up the flavor. Sadly, none of these basics were present. What I was served was a generous pile of rubbery shrimp and what I surmise was a once frozen "Brazilian lobster tail" cooked to fuck. Rubbery mussels to boot and the scallops and calamari that were advertised by staff were AWOL (hiding in horror, I hope). But paella is really about the rice. What I got was strangely flavorless orange American long grain rice. Best guess: stale long grain rice from the recesses of the walk in colored with Annatto. No flavor whatsoever. I know paella can be involved to make the traditional way, but if you're unwilling to do it properly, don't serve it. Pro tip: Spanish paella is either seafood or chicken and chorizo, not both. All of this can be found out on YouTube. Wouldn't have mattered to me if there had been decent rice at least and not this junk I was served. Terrible. Zero stars! read more

Yes! I'm a fan. Recently I was there for lunch with four other business colleagues. The food was very fresh and flavorful it's presentation matching the quality. Service quality is high with attention to detail from beginning to end. For example, orders taken were precise and the subsequent service of the meal was on point, no guess work as to who ordered what was needed by the wait staff. I recommend you try this BYOB. I've had this dish at many other places and the portion size was larger and the taste was much better. Taste wise there is not much that is special about this place. I'm going to keep this short and looksweet. The food was excellent albeit a little overpriced in my opinion. I had the salmon with crabmeat and it was superb. Service was average. However, two things made the overall experience such that I won't be coming back. The tables are situated very close to each other and several times during my meal customers and servers bumped into my chair. But the primary reason for my displeasure was the noise level; it was deafening. People were shouting so loud I couldn't hear our friends across the table and we couldn't hold a conversation. I couldn't wait to leave simply to get away from the noise. Ruined what otherwise was a great meal. read more

Mice... We saw two on the floor scurrying about after finishing dinner. We alerted our server to the issue. He was surprisingly unfazed and remarked that the building construction was the culprit. They were bringing exterminators 2X a week. Having already paid for our dinner, we weren't given any discounts or refunds. Nor offered any comp items. The food was good, it's not a 5 star menu but solid local fare. Unfortunately going back after seeing mice and their response makes it a hard pass for us. read more

Their outdoor dining area is literally the best I have seen in the area (Manhattan included) - tons of space, no pedestrians / cars rolling by, and a beautiful setting - felt like you could have been at a nice resort. Staff is taking all of the precautions you'd expect and we felt extremely comfortable dining at Chef Fredy's. Their food is delicious (calamari, Chilean sea bass, homemade ravioli) and warm service from the full team. BYOB too! read more

Firstly, I have to say that they are SO friendly and sweet at this restaurant. Whenever I call to order, I have been met with a friendly response. They are eager to serve and please! During the Quarantine, we have ordered from here three times, tonight being our third. Prior to this, we got the flash-fried calamari, baked brie and stuffed mushrooms (all delicious)! Also, we did the pre-fix Easter dinner, which was superb. Tonight, however, I was slightly saddened by the surf and turf. I know that sometimes short rib can be fatty, but this piece that I received was ALL fat, and hardly had any meat at all.The veggies and lobster were DELICIOUS, but I am currently on keto and really craving some good, melt-in-your-mouth, fall-off-the-bone short rib. I was disappointed to find mostly fat. Also, the food has been delivered cold. Overall though, friendly service and pretty good food. :) read more

I hosted my wedding welcome party at Chef Fredy's and it exceeded all expectations. We needed space for 100 people and they let us reserve the entire restaurant. Both Nestor and Chef Freddy made it easy to plan and they helped me work within a budget. The venue is BYOB, so I assumed that I would drop off a bunch of beer and wine and people would serve themselves. Instead, Chef Fredy, Nestor and their staff made the rounds all night, serving people within seconds! I was blown away by the service. My guests are still raving about the night. It was a rare combination of great food and service that kept everyone happy. Several people have told me they intend to come back when they are in the area. I would highly recommend for a group party or a meal. read more
