I've lived in Lighthouse Point for two years and never knew this restaurant was here. It's definitely a hole in the wall! Do not let the exterior fool you. Their sushi is absolutely one of the best I've ever had. Very little rice and lots of fresh ingredients inside. I highly suggest the Lighthouse Point Roll and the Volcano Roll is beyond phenomenal. The crab salad on top is very fresh. Also, the calamari is a very nice portion & super crispy. The inside of the restaurant is rather small, so if you do not feel comfortable with a tight dining setting, I recommend take out. read more

I like small, locally owned family restaurants and do my best to support such endeavors.... but it's a two way street and Chef Dee's just doesn't deliver. My sushi was quite similar to supermarket sushi and was missing every component of good sushi and that's beside taste, texture and the right flavored rice. We tried a few rolls and nigiri and all failed - badly. One roll was a $31 Special of the Day and this was chosen based on its supposed freshness. What was interesting was that part of the roll was fried and this didn't make much sense as a basic tenet of sushi is keeping it simple and its just about highlighting fresh fish. If the fish were fresh then why fry it? After disappointing sushi we decided to try a different route and went for the Penne with Shrimp and unfortunately this was no better than the sushi. The sauce tasted as if it came for a jar and the shrimp didn't seem very fresh. Chef Dee's was an F for us. read more

Chef Dee's is my all time favorite place for Italian and sushi! Everything is amazing and so fresh. They have recently expanded and honestly, I don't know how they aren't knee deep in waitlists sometimes. Our favorite roll is off menu (ask for a Mercy roll, you won't be disappointed). Followed by the spider eel and Blue Ocean. They far diavola is INCREDIBLE, and all dishes come with warm crusty bread. The calamari is always perfectly fried, the crab cakes are filled with HUGE lumps of crab. I'm not a fan of tiramisu, but the one here is amazing. They have local art hanging for sale on the walls and they are beautiful scenes of our Florida Oceans. I love coming in to see Mrs Rosie and Chef Dee himself. And some of the flavor profiles could be approved on for more palette variety. I recommend trying the ravioli if you're trying out the italian side of the menu, the sauce is delicious!! We started with calamari and it was so good and tasted fresh. I had the volcano role that was incredible. Husband had crab cakes and he enjoyed those. My Nana has been coming to this restaurant since it first opened. I'm always hesitant on trying new places, but she was moving to Texas and this is where she wanted to have her last meal. I'm really confused by the high ratings so I imagine my experience was unique to my visit. I've heard of Chef Dee's for some years and has been a place I've wanted to try. I was craving sushi so hubby and I checked it out Saturday night around 8:00. The place was bustling. It looks like they recently took over the north bay because the decor and construction was unbalanced from the unfinished floors to the stark walls. They don't have a hostess but wanted to sit at the bar so we seated ourselves. The bar had white napkins as placemats but the "white linen" seemed out of place. Maybe that was the vibe carried over from the smaller location. What also added to my impression was the night we went they had a crew of loud drinkers sitting at the sushi bar who had no care that they were in a restaurant where other diners are paying good money for a night out without being around intoxicated people. One guest in particular was so loud and visited guests at our bar and then proceeded to try and involve me in unpleasant banter, which I ignored. Then there was the issue with no urgency to clear the areas at the bar where guests once dined. Overall I felt the ambience was unsettling and chaotic. The two positives were the pleasant staff and the sushi was amazing! Fresh fish and good portions. Hubby had the chicken parm and was content with his choice. Maybe I'll be back. Maybe I'll go earlier to avoid all-day drinking patrons. read more

Ordered sushi and sashimi for two. Asked for no crunch (as one of rolls is salmon crunch roll). When I arrived home I realized the salmon crunch roll was missing. I proceeded to call and was told by the woman who answered the phone that what I said ("no crunch") means to not provide the roll. I order sushi 5x a week and regularly from here as we live across the street. Attempted to lecture me how I should instead say "no tempura" as this means still provide the roll without the flakes. Why would I order something I don't want? Confused. They did provide the roll after the fact, but I'm still flabbergasted that this was even a conversation. Mora of story: If you order from here apparently you must say "no tempura" instead of "no crunch" otherwise they will just not give you the roll entirely. I've done this over 50 times from here before and no issue until now. read more

I found Chef Dee's to be a rather surprising place as its offerings seem to include not only those predominately Japanese but also Italian. The lunch menu is mostly Japanese though I started off with the grilled oysters which hit me as being very much the same, and I might add also being just as delicious as those I've had in New Orleans. But for my main lunch their softshell crab roll which at $14 and loaded with softshell crab, avocado, asparagus, scallion, sesame seed and even though with the less costly and more boring to eat of the traditional Japanese roe, masago, it represented a delicious big bargain, less pain to the wallet, of a good meal. Their evening menus, which I will be back to try later on, are very much to the Italian side of things with offerings of Zuppa di Pesce over a linguini, Chicken Parmigiana along with spinach and lobster raviolis to name a few. But, they also have a good number of items somewhat more American being a special steak of the day, crab cakes and grilled Angus skirt amongst others. The restaurant itself is rather small, but with a comforting relaxed atmosphere. There is varying art work on the wall which is marked for sale, it has a sit at sushi bar and a couple of outdoor sidewalk tables. More like 3 1/2 stars. This place is perfect for those nights when your group can't decide between Italian or sushi. And in all honesty I wasn't sure at first what part of the menu I would order from... The restaurant is tiny. A long narrow venue with "booths" in the back paralleled to the wall-- 3 of them with 4-seats each, 2 other 4-top tables, 3 2-tops, plus the 9 seats at the counter/slash sushi bar. We sat at the bar. I had their iced tea and ordered one of their blackboard specials -- soft shell crab -- adding on a side of picatta sauce. The entree came with your choice of a baked potato or salad. I chose the salad: chopped romaine with tomatoes, red onions, cakes, and black olives. Blue cheese dressing on the side. After the salads came out, they brought a mini loaf of hot oven baked bread to share. Fresh out of the oven. My soft shells were 2 to an order, lightly battered (like calamari or tempura). The picatta sauce was a perfect side on which to dip the crab which otherwise would have been too plain. The gal two seats over ordered spaghetti with vongole (steamed clams in the shell). That's what I'd get next time... and if I'm in the neighborhood, I'd surely try them again. Service was friendly and as long as you not in a rush, it's was fine time wise as well. However, inside the place is elegantly set with white table cloths amid nautical works of art and a huge 800 lb Marlin mounted on the wall. On a Facebook recommendation from Let's Eat South Florida, three of us went in for lunch and found the place empty, but we didn't mind having the place to ourselves. Who doesn't enjoy private dining? We ordered a Tuna Poke Bowl, Sushi & Sashimi Combination, and a Sashimi appetizer with a few Cokes. Service was exclusive and the bill came to $98 including tip.
