I haven't eaten here for quite a long time. It has always been super busy and the Sushi wasn't the best. Well a lot has changed! Service was friendly and pleasant and food was great. We have raw oysters which were shucked well and super tasty served with horseradish, cocktail sauce, lemon and hot sauce. For mains courses we have Sushi and a burger. The Dry Aged Burger had brisket, short rib and dry age blend was a basic burger with a lot of taste and one to come back for. A side of fries were hot, crispy and moist inside - top notch. Another main dish was the sushi Mama Fuma with crab meat, tuna, wahoo, avocado and asparagus. I left off the Cream Cheese and the roll was nice and BIG and was a flavor explosion of flavor, and each type of fish. No regrets! I will have to come back and do a cruise around the menu for some new dishes. read more

We've been here many times before over the years, so I'm surprised I don't show a previous review. We've been here when it was packed on a weekend evening, and they had music, and it was too loud to converse. We've been here and eaten dinner in their backroom. We've brought visiting friends and family. We've been here over the years for various lobster specials and even sushi and during happy hours, too. This was the first time we'd been back in some time. It was a nicer and quieter experience coming for lunch during the week. We were able to spread out at a slightly larger table. There are still two kitchens, so it gets a bit complicated when you order. The food comes out whenever its ready, and from different locations, so you don't always get your appetizer first -- sometimes it comes with your meal. Next time, I'll try to remember this. The sodas are not brand name. They are not the best nor close to the originals. I think the carbonation might have been off, as well. Today, they had a special on oysters -- they were half priced. I ordered some peel n eat shrimp to come first so I could share this with my husband. And some Nola oysters -- half a dozen "grilled" New Orleans style for my main when he had his lunch. Instead, everything for me came out all at once. And the shrimp -- which I'd assumed would be cold -- were served hot. That was my mistake, I guess, not to verify this when I ordered. That being said, the shrimp swimming in garlic butter and a tad messy to eat, were a nice large size and quite good. They were served with a couple lemon wedges and a small container of cocktail sauce. The oysters, however, were miniscule and basically some hard melted cheese on a tiny bit of something difficult to taste/find. They didn't taste grilled, either. If we hadn't been paying only $10 for the six of them, I would have been even more disappointed. My husband got their shrimp and chips. The fries were served well done as ordered. The shrimp were in a thick batter. The dish came with some tartar and cocktail sauce. He said they were okay (and that my shrimp were much better than his). Went with my sister-in-law for my birthday. I had never been there but knew their oyster shooters from the Pompano Beach Seafood Festival. I introduced her to those shooters, twice, then we ordered a dozen oysters and a dozen clams....both as expected, fresh, well shucked and delicious. I ordered the linguine with clam sauce and she got the lobster mac n cheese. Both so delicious! It was a Friday night so I'm so glad we made reservations. Fish served here is fresh as it gets! The cherry stones melted in your mouth, blackened swordfish bites were to die for and shrimp po'boy was excellent! Whole fish dinner could serve an army. Drinks were delish too! Service was excellent, and everyone (including the owner) pitched in to make sure we were well taken care of. This is a restaurant close to where we live that we had never eaten at. I stopped in to buy seafood before but remember the dining area being very small. They have now expanded into two other store fronts so there is more room. We stopped in on a Tuesday for happy hour and enjoyed 1/2 price oysters and $5 fish tacos. Got salmon and tuna from the market when I got home I realized that the salmon was slimy and smelled really fishy I tried it with sushi rice and almost threw up had to throw away the entire piece and tuna wasn't as not fresh as the salmon but it was at the end of its shelf life as well tried eating it and couldn't finish a little .5 lb piece I got because it was really unappetizing and I still had gag reflex from the salmon so I ended up wasting most of the fish I bought and had to get dinner out. I think the restaurant sources their fish else where than the market because I never had a bad experience at the restaurant. read more

We were here last year and liked it so much we had to come back. I'm glad we did! Get there before 6pm for happy hour food and drink specials. Our waitress, Autumn, was so friendly and attentive and fun. I'm gluten free and she was very knowledgeable of the menu and accommodating my dietary needs. I am so appreciative of her.... Thank you, Autumn! We started with one dozen Oysters NOLA. I will say the oysters were very small but didn't lack in flavor. We ordered a second dozen, (yes, there were only two of us, but we love oysters prepared this way, and they were small). I ordered the catch of the day, blackened grouper. It was cooked perfectly, very moist and tasty. My taste buds were doing a happy dance! My husband ordered the Diva Roll which he very much enjoyed. We ended with desert, fried banana cheesecake with ice cream. Sooooo goooood!! They also have a fresh seafood store, if you're looking to prepare some yourself. Pricing seemed in line, and it's fresh, not frozen, and I'm definitely going back for some Grouper or Mahi Mahi. We sat outside, although there was plenty of seating inside. The inside of this place is pretty tight. They are not wasting any space. Seafood World is really a seafood shop which they re-purposed to a restaurant. We came on a Saturday night and the place was packed. The parking lot was packed as well, but we got lucky and found a spot. They have valet as well. The food is a little pricey, but for the portions and freshness of their offerings, it is well worth it. We were seated at a table in a corner next to the kitchen. I thought I would hate it, but our server was so great that she made up for it. They have a great selection of beer and wine too. Maybe even mixed drinks, but I cant remember. What I like most is their Buffalo Bills flag outside. GO BILLS!!!! read more

I have to update because I keep eating here. One word..Red Snapper Franchese..OK..That's three words..but still.. Seriously..fell in love with this little gem in Lighthouse Point years ago and have been back several times since. The food is great as in melt in your mouth great. They are in Main Street plaza and it is easy to park. I have been here for lunch and dinner and they are one of those rare places that you just do not get tired of. The menu is large and packed with Seafood goodies. I had a great experience here the first time I went (and since). But the very first time I came here I was disappointed that something I wanted was not on the menu so the very nice staff and chef made it anyway! That speaks alot to the great staff. You just do not see that all that much. OK..let us talk food. If I could recommend something it would be the incredible Red Snapper franchese which I mentioned at the beginning of this review. Order it! It rocks. Last time I was here, I was with one other person. We got the Red Snapper and a crab cake sandwich and split everything. The vibe is casual and it's fun there. It gets busy! The staff is wonderful, portions are nice and big and it's just a great place to relax and chill and they offer up wonderful seafood. Five stars easily. I love this place! read more

Tyler was honestly the highlight of our visit. He was such a great server, and took excellent care to make sure we had a great experience. The clam chowder is 5 stars. Perfect consistency, and only added a touch of pepper. Stone crab claws were light, refreshing, and correctly cut for convenience. The fried shrimp was good and seasoned nicely, but got soggy after a few minutes since it is plated on top of lettuce. Potato wedges, also 5 stars. Best fish and chips ever! Have been to England, and tried all over the US, and the combination of fresh caught fish and their proprietary batter made these the best. Light and flaky, excellent buttery fish, and a lot of food for the money. They were so good we took an extra order home for another meal which heated up well in the toaster. Service was very good, had a couple of good mixed drinks, and typical beach type ambiance which was nice. Right across from the Rink at the Beach for any hockey families out there! read more

It's the weekend and it's time to explore new restaurants. My wife and I have a few of our favorite spots, but I think it's time for us to try places we have never been before. Especially being so busy at work for the first two month this year, I am ready to explore. We have visited many gastro pubs, BBQ and steak house, but not a log of sea food places. We started looking for sea food restaurants and found this place had many good reviews. Might be a way out from where we live, and we were hoping it'll be worth the drive. The restaurant is located on US1 in Lighthouse Point. Not hard to find from the street with its big and bright blue and white sign. We walked in and realize it's both a seafood market and a restaurant. The dining area may not be big, but they also operate a raw bar next door which I believe you can also order the seafood from there. The menu is massive. They offer lots of selections from appetizers, salads and soup. There is also a lunch menu where you can order from noon to 4pm. We wanted to try different things so we decided to order one appetizer, one soup and one dinner entrée. But before we do, we had to order a dozen raw oysters. They tasted pretty fresh and the sizes of those oysters were pretty large. Next was the conch fritters. It's got pretty good flavors but I think ours came out slightly burned. We also ordered the lobster bisque for appetizers. The soup was nice and creamy, perhaps a bit salty. But I was disappointed that I didn't find any lobster meat in the soup. For our entrée, I took the suggestion from our waitress and ordered the blackened mahi mahi. The fish was cooked perfectly; when I squeezed a few drop of lemon juice, it took the fish to another level. Overall we were pleased with our food. Everything we were pretty good. Even the side dish potato salad and rice and peas that came with the entrée were excellent. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Even it felt like a hole in the wall restaurant, but I do appreciate the history of this establishment. A picture on the wall tells me this has been a family business for over 3 generations now. We'd love to come back but would visit the raw bar next door. The sign on the door where it says "over 100 craft beers" sold me!!! read more

It often surprises me how tough it can be to find good fresh seafood in South Florida. In our quest for fresh seafood, we went a little out of our way to this little place that I had heard about for years. Do not come here for chic decor or a dressy night out. This is "old Florida 80"s style decor: paneled walls, clam like sconces, & fish on the walls. It is a perfect place to bring the kids but don't get fooled by the down home decor. This place is not cheap, although I do believe the prices are fair. We started with the Smoked Fish Dip ($10.95). I am not usually a fish dip lover but this was one of the better ones I have had. It was thick and creamy with just the right amount of chunkiness. It had a very fresh flavor with just a touch of spice. Our server was kind enough enough to let me try a bit of the Seafood Vinagarette appetizer which I found to be a little too sweet. Instead, I ordered the Tuna Yuki ($13.95), kind of a tuna tartar with kimchi sauce. Unfortunately I found this to be way too salty and I had to send it back. Husband and boys all got Lobster Bisque ($5.95/Mug) . I tried it and it was good: very thick, creamy, and filling. I would not order it if you really wanted room for your main dish. Our server recommended the Hogfish Francaise ($32.95) which both Husband and I ordered. Funny, I can't say anything negative about this dish. The hogfish was fresh, buttery smooth, not overcooked. The lemon butter sauce was just a little too mellow, making the dish a little "blah". I would not order it again. 10 year old had a Crab cake: dense with crab and tasty 9 year old had Kelly's Gulfstream Grouper ($34.95) ....: it was grouper with lobster sauce, shrimp, crab, and scallops. It was a huge portion and cooked nicely. The scallops and shrimp were well seasoned and the lobster sauce was very tasty. Service was a 5. Kudos to our friendly server Joanna. Her enthusiasm about the restaurant was c. She expalined that she had been a customer for several years and just got her first server job there four months ago. She took her time to explain and recommend items on the menu. She always kept an eye on our table to see if we needed anything and kept our drinks full. Overall, a bit of a disappointment. Really a 3 1/2 but I could not round up to a 4 even with the superior service. Fresh fish? Yes. But the preparation left a little to be desired. It was uneven and flat. This rating after only one visit may be premature. After enjoying many delicious and flavorful seafood dishes and after several visits I feel it's time to post a review. You can't get better New England clam chowder. It's loaded with clams in a creamy soup that is perfectly balanced with subtle carrots, onions and celery. Very satisfying. We have enjoyed the diver scallops and the hog fish, which they are noted for. Both excellent. Last weekend we hosted our family and we all enjoyed the Gulfstream style entree. Tonight we returned and hubby and I ordered the same. Our waiter Tyler made the experience very enjoyable with his welcoming and friendly personality. I must say all of the staff are great!! For fresh, simple, good seafood, this is the place. Definitely a simple little gem of a restaurant meant for those who enjoy fresh seafood without any added pretense of décor, overly snappy service or hype. The layout of the place is certainly different. You walk into what is actually a small seafood store, then a corridor that winds around to the back where there are is a small dinning area with what is either a strange table arrangement or no arrangement at all. On the board is a list of the day's specials. Sometimes those specials are rather unique like Hog Grouper. They are also somewhat pricey, but fresh, quality seafood makes for a pricey dish to eat, so I don't find it unreasonable about. The patrons are basically more of a collection of locals and those in the know rather than the tourists who frequent the other places along Federal, which I take as a hint that there must be something good about the place. The store portion of Seafood World has a fairly decent collection of items for take home cooking. Fresh stone crab, various fish and a variety of somewhat unique frozen items like soft shell crab and crawfish, but of course if you're not from Louisiana or a Cajun, they might be known as crayfish. read more

I was really looking forward to coming to Papa's Raw Bar. We pulled up to the valet and wasn't sure where to go so we went to the door closest. It's Papa Hughies Seafood World... not Papa's Raw Bar. We didn't know this until after we were seated (in the parking lot basically) but we decided to stay. (Same owner) Our server was very friendly. We decided to get Jumbo Stone Crabs and a few apps. Lobster bites were not sweet tender lobster bites but somewhat fishy. Sauce was good. Claims Casino which on the menu says they are awesome were very disappointing. It was mushy, no breadcrumbs, and lacking flavor. The clams themselves were tender. Coconut shrimp was good... lightly fried but I was not a fan of the orange marmalade sauce. Too orangey. The claws for $48 (3 Jumbo) were very good and I enjoyed their mustard sauce. All in all disappointed but might come back to try the raw bar now that I know where the door is. I think the valet guy should ask which restaurant you are coming to but he was very overwhelmed. read more

We were out helping the reef by killing lots of lionfish. We filleted them, brought them in and handed them directly to the cook. He made some suggestions and how to cook...we went with blackened and broiled. Oh goodness the outcome was simply amazing. We did this a few days in a row and each time the experience was amazing. Late Lunch at Papa Hughie's Seafood World. Quiet compared to prime time hours in this very busy restaurant during season. I love the fact they are willing to experiment with stuff in the specials. The curry mussels appetizer is excellent, in a acidic curry broth (not creamy or heavy) that has citrus juice in it. Not at all salty or spicy, but I am sure they can tweak it for a chile head. I suggested they do it as a main with mixed seafood and perhaps rice noodles or jasmine rice. The buffalo clam strips are tasty but bready, actually quite addictive but I think they would be better in the outdoor raw bar with some beer. Rachel's Mediterranean "burrito" was a wrap with a fresh roasted salsa and feta cheese, she ordered it with fish instead of the shrimp, liked it a lot. Definitely a place I want to explore more of the menu. read more

Overpriced and not up to par. I ordered crab Rangoon and clam chowder to go. I live two minutes away and immediately picked up everything when it was ready. When I tried my food, I was so severely disappointed. The clam chowder and crab Rangoon were both cold. The clam chowder tasted canned. It was so bland and flavorless. The crab Rangoon was okay but it was $10 for 5 of them. That's $2 each for a fried tablespoon of creamcheese and whatever. Just not worth it and not worth the time.
