Totally unexpected find! We spent a weekend in the Latrobe area, and were disappointed by the dining options. We ended up finding Chef Datos from searching on the internet. There would have been no way we would have found it otherwise. The food was amazing. Truly the best Jaegerschnitzel that I've had outside of Germany. I've had a lot of german food over the years. Reservation made a month in advance for New Year's Eve. Got here and had to wait an hour to be seated. Still waiting for our meal.....3 hours after we arrived. Not the most attentive staff, and not very concerned that we are disappointed. Very understaffed, which should never happen, as all guests had reservations and they should be prepared. We will not ever be eating here ever again. Three hours and our food finally came. We both ordered filet mignon and lobster. His filet was 3 separate chunks of meat. Mine was full of fat like it came off a rib eye. Potatoes and plate was all lukewarm. Vegetables so overdone they were mush. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone, ever. read more

First visit: -two couples meeting up for a new experience. We drove right past, but turned round because we saw a large number of cars! After a short wait, (we had a reservation) we were seated and greeted by a drink waitress. Then meal orders taken from a menu with wide variety: our table mixed salmon, beef tips, and Italian fare, served with minimum delay in a very busy restaurant. All food beautifully cooked and presented. One of us could not resist apple dumpling and cream topping for dessert. We rated food and service excellent, and plan on returning to enjoy one of the evenings with a foreign-country theme. There are days set aside for almost every country in the world. We've been here probably 5 times total and have enjoyed our meals. Since my husband and I were alone on Thanksgiving we decided to go out. We loved the buffet here. It had all the standard Thanksgiving staples and I think the only real additions were pumpkin soup and ham. Everything was delicious. I was glad it wasn't overwhelming because I'm really trying not to overeat. But theRe was plenty if you wanted to. Lol. The price was very reasonable also. We tried Chef Dato's for the Greensburg restaurant week and are so glad we did! The place doesn't look like much from the outside, and the interior isn't fancy compared to big city restaurants, but the fantastic service and amazing food are totally worth the drive. I had the lobster mac n cheese and my boyfriend had salmon. We both raved about the meals! The appetizers, potstickers and also a Georgian style cheese bread, were yummy and so interesting. I just ate here today with my mom and her parents and we had an excellent experience! I have some dietary restrictions, and the owner (who seated us) was very friendly and explained how a number of things on the menu could be easily modified for me. Before we ordered, the chef came out to see if there was anything else he could do for me. They were more than happy to make any modifications for me and gave me many options. I was very impressed with the effort the staff made in accommodating me. Besides that, service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the bill for all four of our meals came to around $36. I'm so happy we discovered this gem of a restaurant in Latrobe! My husband and I were working for a winery owned by friends of my family at Ligonier Days this weekend. After the festival ended Saturday we were searching for somewhere to eat. I'm so happy this place came up on Yelp. The group of six of us got there around 8pm and we had a great experience. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect when we pulled into the parking lot, but I was so surprised at how great Chef Dato's was. We were particularly excited about the special Oktoberfest menu and imported German beers. We all got drinks. For appetizers we had the stuffed banana peppers and fried pickles. Both were delicious. The peppers were spicy though so be careful! For dinner I had the schnitzel, which was great. It came with salad, mashed potatoes and vegetables. I wish I had noticed though there's a difference between regular schnitzel and Jager schnitzel. I had actually wanted the Jager schnitzel, but just order schnitzel and didn't get it with the Jager mushroom gravy. That's fine though because it was still wonderful. I got to steal some of my Dad's gravy because he did end up getting the Jager schnitzel. Everyone else at the table was super impressed with their meals as well. A lot of us ordered from the Oktoberfest menu, but there are plenty of delicious looking options on the regular menu as well. Somehow after all that food we still had room for some shared desserts. I had a few bites of the chocolate peanut butter pie. It tasted like a giant peanut butter cup. I was so full afterwards, but it was well worth it. One of the restaurant owners was there and I have to say how wonderful she was. She was so helpful with telling us what was good on the menu and the background behind the Oktoberfest (she's German and her husband is Italian, which is why there are so many great food items from different cultures!). It turns out every month they actually feature a special menu from different countries around the world. I really, really, really would love to go back and eat here again sometime, even though it's an hour and ten minutes away from where I live. read more

Went there last night on a friday. Pretty low key spot out in the country. Only a few patrons on a friday so i was a little worried. Our waitress was super nice and the app we ordered was above average. Portabella with crab meat. The entrees were average. My chicken was dry and hard to eat but the pasta was cooked perfect. We have been trying to eat here for a while, but their hours are iffy. Finally tonight was the night. It's a much nicer place on the inside. Walking in felt as though I was in an upscale New York restaurant with a sort of modern elegant gangster feel ... I am not sure how else to explain it but I loved the décor. It was warm and inviting. We were greeted by smiling hostess/wait staff. We loved the local beers on tap and the butter that comes with the bread is to die for. Salads were fresh but need some cheese. Our meals were good but could of used a bit more seasoning. I would tell you what we got but really can't remember what they were called. I can say I would have loved to see some pasta with a clam or wine sauce. Would love to go back and try some other things. The biggest issue I had.... I assume the young woman was the bartender... complaining the entire time to some regular costumers, from the lack of management to no one being 'in charge" to no one ordering supplies. She complained about her work schedule and how she would walk away but wanted to keep her foot in the door in case the owners step up and statr doing what they are suppose to be doing. She complained about everything and anything, That we overheard because she wasn't being very discreet about anything, she was just airing the dirty laundry.. Very unprofessional!. Its really sad, this place would be so great if only a few things were tweaked. Great lunch with coworkers. The outside might give you the wrong impression but the inside is very elegant. Excellent service and everything was very clean (which I am a little bit of a freak about). We had a great celebratory meal here with 10 family members ranging in age from 5 to 70+. (None of us are local to the Latrobe area but it was a good central meeting spot.) The menu has a huge variety which had something (actually multiple things) for everyone in our party, which is impressive since we have a number of different preferences. On top of the regular menu, there was also a special restaurant week menu, which had even more dishes (including the Georgian cheese bread) and was a really good value, and also a kids menu with many choices. Every dish was excellent and the management (Kara) was super helpful and flexible in responding to our needs. Service was excellent as well. (I appreciated the recommendation of the adjika salad dressing--a unique flavor!) And desserts were a special highlight. I would highly recommend Chef Dato's Table, and hope to find occasion to be back for more visits in the future! read more

My wife and three children decided to go out for dinner to celebrate a special occasion. We heard about a new restaurant opening in the area and decided to give it a try. The restaurant/bar is divided into three different sections-each seemingly having a different atmosphere. We arrived early (5pm) and were seated in the open dining area which was worked well in our case with restless three year-olds. The service was very friendly, personable, and above all, prompt. My wife and older son had the 5-cheese soup, Paula's Maple Crusted Salmon and Lobster Macaroni and cheese, which they loved-especially the soup. I am a big fan of french onion soup and have to try it whenever it is featured on a menu. I was not disapointed! It was outstanding-not too salty and very hot-two qualities that more often than not, fall short. I also ordered the mushroom risotto which I found to be very creamy and flavorful. The kids meals were very fun and creative including the 'spider dogs' and the mini cheeseburgers. I still can't get my three year-olds to give me their opinions, though. There was not much left when it was time for desert. For desert, which we don't often order, we ordered the rasberry peach torte which was out of this world! It was delivered as a 4-5 layer chunk of pure decadence. We left very happy and full. (3 adult meals/2 kids meals-$65) We look forward to returning often to indulge in the many mouthwatering temptations on the menu. read more

I have been coming here since the restaurant was in Youngstown, PA. They have great food and drinks. There are themes to every night of the week. One night they have Italian, another night it might be Russian or sea food. My favorite night is German. I always end up taking some home. But you wont leave hungry. I have a friend who is a Vegan and allergic to many foods. They accommodated her every request. They make all their foods from scratch. I always come here when it is a special occasion. Had the potato pancake appetizer, it was a little gummy being that it was very thick. I had the NY strip steak, ordered it medium rare and got it medium well at best. It was grey throughout and had no seasoning. Vegetable and "smashed" potato sides were mediocre at best, I think butter was the only seasoning in the potatoes. My husband had the western chicken, he had no complaints but it was just a grilled chicken breast with a slice of cheese melted and bacon slices thrown on top. In the month of October they have an Oktoberfest menu. My mother and I both ordered entree options and an appetizer option from this menu. We started with the potato pancakes and they were served with sour cream and apple sauce. We both really enjoyed this appetizer. It comes with 2 large potato pancakes and the I had the chicken dinner option, it was served with spatzel and veggies. The chicken was served with a delicious bier sauce. We also ordered a piece of the pumpkin carrot cake to go. It is also very delicious. The season beer option was delicious. Would definitely recommend. read more
