We had the raspberry brie appetizer and for dinner my husband at the Maple Bacon NY strip and I had the Coq au Vin from the French menu. For dessert we had creme brûlée, it was perfect. I went to Chef Dato's as part of a wedding party dinner. There were 23 of us, and we could all order off the full menu. I had the chicken and peaches, after a cup of crab and corn soup. Delicious! (OK, I shared a large piece of chocolate peanut butter pie, too.) I checked with others in our party who ordered many of the remaining dishes, and everyone was more than satisfied. They were very accommodating to special requests, and our waitress was very solicitous, to the point of returning a dish because the steak was not well done enough. (There's one in every family.) I would certainly return the next time I'm in the area. read more

Best restaurant in Westmoreland County!! The place has been remolded and it is classy and cozy. Very upscale dining without the upscale price. I love how every Thursday a different country is presented. It gives you a chance to taste food you ordinarly wouldn't. The new Biergarten looks great and I can't wait to try it out!! There is so much variety for dining. I have NEVER had a bad meal there and portion size is big. Their desserts are to die for and if you can actually eat one after the meal your are lucky. However, if not, I highly suggest you take some home for they are tripple sized what you get at any other place. This restaurant is so different in our community of pizza shops and fast food joints it is so refreshing to have a REAL restaurant for special occasions or just everyday dining. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!! And they accomidate parties! read more

Such a solid place really! Prices and portions are more than fair. Desserts are to die for. Ambiance is...meh. I have never had anything bad here, the most critical thing i can say is food is sometimes oversauced. Other than that, it is a diamond in the rough. This place is horrible. They treat people very horribly and immaturely. While being there I often asked myself, "who raised these girls?" I can not believe the service I received at this "restaurant". Absolutely awful. I would rather go to the drive through at McDonald's than to sit anywhere in that building. We had Datos cater our wedding. One of the first things that I said at our first sit down was I was concerned about keeping the food hot as the drive was long to the venue and we were eating outside in Fall. I was assured that the food would be kept warm. Well, with a fully equipped kitchen, outlets in the pavilion and the modern wonder of sterno my wedding guests were served cold food anyway. The servers let the food sit in black hot boxes on a table for hours- it was never put on heat. I wrote emails and my husband and I both called to discuss why this occurred- while our check was cashed quite quickly we weren't even given the courtesy of a return phone call. What a shame. Never again. Sad that one of the things I remember about our wedding day is cold chicken @ $20+/plate. read more

Pure perfection. Excellent food and service. Great selection of craft beers. A must try!

We have been dining here for about two years. The food is quality, however, several times we have been disappointed. We were there yesterday. Ordered an appetizer and entrees. Appetizer and salad came out together even though waitress said she would put the appetizer in first. About five minutes later, our meals came out. Even though commenting several times to the waitress, she was very clueless. Said the kitchen was slow so they hurried the food, which was warm not hot. We couldn't enjoy any part of the meal. Everything got cold.The waitresses need training on how to watch the customer before bringing out the next course. We planned a nice relaxing dinner and was done in 45 minutes. Left most of the food.Another time the smashed potatoes were so salty and nothing was done. In the two years, the vegetable has never changed. The desserts are delicious! If we do go back, it will just be to try a sandwich. I feel we have given them enough chances. read more

Three friends and I went to Chef Dato's Table for dinner on Tuesday October 12 to celebrate a birthday. We were very pleased with the service and the food was outstanding. We each had a very different meal and all were greatly enjoyed. The chef sent a large piece of cake to celebrate the birthday and we each had a large piece of the Chocolate Raspberry Mousse Cake and there was some to take home. The food was fine- that is till I about broke a tooth on prime rib. It had a bone in it. I gave the bone to the hostess, she took it to the chef, and came back telling me that couldnt happen. Well, I had a tooth ache for over a month- my dentist said biting the bone bruised my jawbone nerve. The hostess just thought I wanted a free meal which I never asked for nor implied. I've only ever heard great things about chef datos, so when friends of mine from pittsburg told me about their less than pleasant experience, I was quite frankly shocked. I had to experience for myself so that I wasn't given a jaded view. I didn't get a gangster or upscale feel from the decor, more like old and dated. I requested to be seated in the main dining just in case the bar staff decided to air some more information. As soon as we were seated, our waitress came over and said what do you want to drink, never even introducing herself. Still have no idea what her name is. The menu was mostly German food, as was the case when my friends visited. I opted for the chicken special which was delicious, but the portion of chicken was ridiculously small. My friend had Prime rib which was mostly fat. Total bill $85 with tip, and I left dissatisfied and frankly still hungry. Whether you dine there during the week as my friends did or on a Saturday night as I did, the place was NOT busy at all. Such a shame, I hope they can figure things out. read more

A shocking disappointment, given the positive views I've read elsewhere. My baked brie starter was good - but then, how hard is it to bake a brie, surround it with toast, and drizzle raspberry sauce over it? My companion ordered "prawnS" and got exactly one prawn floating in a horrible gray gravy. He refused to eat it, as it did not appear to be fully cooked. For my house salad, I tried the Chef's special dressing. Although it looked green and appealing, he so loaded it with garlic that I could taste nothing else. How clumsy. For entrees, I was excited to try the butternut squash ravioli.... but what an appalling disappointment. The sauce, though creamy in taste, was excessively thin, and there WAS NO BUTTERNUT SQUASH FILLING in the ravioli. Let me repeat that: When I sliced the ravioli open, there was *no filling*, no butternut squash at all, inside!! What kind of chef forgets to put filling in the ravioli? My companion's grilled chicken caesar salad looked like a train wreck on the plate, and while the chicken was tender, the romaine mournfully reclined uneaten. For dessert, I tried Chef's phyllo apple kiwi pie, the one that "got him into the CIA". Maybe it was a poison for the Central Intelligence Agency? If the menu means the Culinary Institute of America, it should have got him thrown out! The apples were still crunchy, I could barely detect the kiwi, and the filling was thick, starchy, and pasty. The pie slice and ice cream were put on the extreme edge of the plate, leaving 3/4 of the plate covered in a baleful pool of slimy syrup. Yuck. The whipped cheesecake dipped in chocolate tasted appropriately rich, light, and fluffy, with just enough crunch in the chocolate shell to please, but a heavy hand over-smeared the plate with chocolate sauce - guys, a fine drizzle would have sufficed. The white chocolate raspberry torte made me laugh - it looked like a giant top hat. What a waste - my companion could only eat four bites or so, and only after excavating the cake buried in an inch of frosting. Even the alcohol left something to desire. I have now learned that anything that begins with "pumpkin pie," but which isn't actually pumpkin pie, should be avoided - in this case, the pumpkin pie martini. The Knickerbocker was ok. read more
