With a friendly staff leading you into the high quality food.. it's just phenomenal. The menu changes but has 20 items on it. I went with salmon, filet, and veggies. We saw the new Reuben egg rolls available at Headkeepers and had to try them. We picked them up take out and the pick up was great! The service was quick! The rolls are huge! We have been patronizing the Headkeeper since it opened many years ago. Everything has been very good for all those years but recently the service has been disappointing. On the most recent occasion on Monday ( 7/21) we were seated outside right away. It wasn't really busy with probably half the tables unoccupied. After waiting for 16 minutes exactly with not even being approached by a server we left and as we did people at two tables nearby even threw up their hands as to acknowledge our frustration. After a very long, draining day with an unexpected relative's admission to a local hospital, we were searching for a place that was still serving food at 9 o'clock on a Saturday. There were a few cars still parked in their lot so we thought we would try our luck. The host or manager greeted us when we walked in and ran back to see if the kitchen was still open. They gave us the thumbs up and we were so relieved. I know that kitchens don't want to make fried stuff or involved dishes close to closing time so we kept it simple and just ordered a short rib and cheese quesadilla to go. We had time to quaff down a few draft beers and then grab some to go. The food tasted delicious and we couldn't have been treated any nicer at such a late hour. A hidden gem, as many people don't know much about it outside of parts of Westmoreland County. Amazing craft beer selection, nice large patio, and really interesting twists on a variety of foods. I had a really nice tender juicy duroc pork chop with a spicy adobo glaze, a serving of really fresh tasting mushrooms. My wife had the filet, but it was overcooked. She asked for medium well, but it was fully grey on the inside. Some chefs intentionally punish people who order medium well, by over cooking it. Not saying that was the case. We had the sticks appetizers, which sounded good, but instead of pieces of chicken wrapped up in the fried pastry, it was minced. Not a typical food consistency agreeable with the average American. Finally, it had barbecue sauce on it. I am not a chef, but it is never ever a good idea to serve anything other than ribs, with barbecue sauce on it. It cheapens the dish and overwhelms any other subtle flavors. Our waitress just stopped waiting on us, so I had to go up to the bar and ask for service. There is a guy who works there, head bartender, I think, really like the guy, as he's great to talk to. We did have some loud entertainment, though, sitting a few feet away from us. Still a 4 rating because we know what this place CAN be! We like The Headkeeper. We intend to go back as we think this was simply a one-off. It may not have even come to mind, but it was one of the few places open on a Monday and this was for a special occasion dinner. Something to love is that, being primarily tapas, you can try a few things & not be overwhelmed. That said, the dinner salad is very share-able--it's huge! First time to a tapas restaurant and I have to say, I am hooked... I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time, finally, for my birthday weekend, I got to - and boy, was I happy about it. Located off the beaten path in Greensburg, PA, if you're not looking for it you might miss it. It's location is a non-descript building with only a few windows and an outdoor patio (quite sizeable) that was completely unused at the time because of rain. The main entrance is also non-descript, and from the outside it appears to be a much fancier place than it actually is, but once you enter you notice you're in a bar setting that is relaxed and relatively welcoming. As stated earlier it's tapas - which as I understand it, is a menu full of appetizers. Though the items are appetizers, the portions are a bit more than that and the food is presented as good as any fancy place I've been too. So, for food (or appetizers) my wife and I shared their calamari, whose the sweet chili Thai sauce was amazing; the scallops, three massive scallops in a dragon fruit sauce; and the shrimp bowl with noodles - all of it was super good. I ordered their side salad which was a large salad consisting of spring mix greens, and all the other good fixings you would expect. My wife ordered a side of their rosemary potatoes which were delicious as well. For dessert, she had their crème brulee, while I had their American Pop cheese cake (a cheesecake harking to those cold red, white, and blue pops you get from the ice cream truck.) My wife declared it was the best crème brulee she's ever had, and she is picky about that stuff. They have a massive selection of beers, it was honestly difficult to choose one, but choose I did and I'll be happy to come back and try some more. Their selection had some choices I had not seen in other area stores, so that was a plus in my book. Service was exceptional, friendly, and chatty - just like I like 'em. She was patient as it was our first time, and she offered suggestions and tips for us to consider - super helpful and we were thankful for it. I first went here years ago when I was in graduate school and I recently returned with a new friend. I loved it then and I love it now! You can't open the beer yourself (the server has to do it), but you can pick it out from the in-wall refrigerators. Lots of different choices, well-known beers and others uncommon. The calamari has always been good. I recently tried the steak for the first time and it was delicious! The service is usually pretty good. There's outdoor seating as well first-level and second-level seating so lots of choices. I love coming here in the summertime and sitting outside on the patio. They have a draft selection of about 6 beers which is very well rounded and many coolers with a variety to choose from. All the beers we had were great and the food was good as well. We stopped here on our way home one evening as I was out this way visiting a friend! Staff was super helpful and friendly as we decided what to drink and order. They have such a huge selection of beer to pick from and many delicious options! I loved being able to try so many unique kinds rather than my usual traditional lame beers or seltzer's I go for haha. We split some apps and I really enjoyed all of the food. Quesadillas were great and so were the toothpicks! I also ordered their lava cake with heath on top and that was really tasty. My only complaint is it was really cold inside the whole time and I was just so cold while trying to enjoy my meal so maybe they could kick the heat up a bit on the cooler days! Stopped here for dinner with two coworkers while traveling in the area an we were pleasantly surprised! We come from foodie towns and we're nervous about what we'd get this far out of a city. The food was great! The drinks were good. The staff was nice. The only drawback was we ate on the patio and it was dark by the time our food came out and it was a little hard to see what was what on the veggie platter (or other dishes) so I had to use the flashlight on my cellphone. We got grilled veg, red potatoes, scallops, shrimp, beef quesadilla, lamb and crab cakes. Portion sizes were good but as it was dark I didn't get pictures of any of the food. The food came out one or two plates at a time which was perfect so we would empty the tapas plate and have new stuff to try. All 3 of us were very happy! read more

We make it a tradition to go to the Headkeeper outdoor patio for tapas and beer several times during the summer, I think ever since they opened. It's just such a great place with all the beer selections and wonderful food, more like appetizers but good enough for us as dinner. I think the owners were WCCC culinary school graduates who came up with the idea for the Headkeeper, and we have been consistently impressed. The best thing on the menu is the calamari which is a must order. The waitresses say the toothpicks are also popular but I usually try something I've never had before so this time I had the Havarti cheese wrapped In prosciutto with basil and sundried tomatoes and was very happy with my pick. Moscow mule for me and beer for my husband and we had a pleasant experience until the rain started again. I took one star off because while there were many empty tables we were told we could eat inside or at the bar as the tables were reserved. So we were happy to sit at the bar. However, during the hour to hour and a half we were there, it appeared all those reserved tables mostly remained empty. I'm not sure how restaurants work this, and I know The Headkeeper is popular, but something seemed off about the seating. But sitting at the bar is ok, if you get seats. read more

What a nice find in Greensburg before heading to the Civic Center for a play. Thanks, fellow Yelpers, because had I been simply driving by there is no way I would have stopped here. The outside by itself does not lead you inside on its own. However, once inside, it has a nice funky feel. They have 2 levels. On the ground floor is the bar and a handful of dining tables decked out with tablecloths (nice touch). Upstairs has dining also and, per their website, is good for groups. Their website also indicates they have a patio so in better weather I hope to be back for that experience. The menu has many selections of tapas to share. We ordered four and received five (one by mistake, but, oh what a nice mistake and we kept it). All the plates we ordered were within the $9 to $14 range with each having enough to share between the two of us. Here is a run-down of our dishes: Oven Roasted Asparagus Bundles $9 -- Asparagus wrapped in prosciutto with balsamic vinegar -- Excellent! Pan Seared Ahi Tuna $14 -- This was the only fail. They were simply awful and unedible. However, our server was kind enough to take off 1/2 the price. Fair enough. Four Cheese And Porcini Mushroom Sacchetti $13 -- These were pasta pockets and nice and creamy -- Excellent! Sautéed Shrimp $13 -- In a pesto sauce -- Excellent! Sautéed Forest Mushrooms $11 -- Excellent! We both had glasses of wine and were happy with our selections. Our server, Brittany, was warm, welcoming, and pleasant. I really enjoyed my visit at The Headkeeper! After a day out with friends, we stopped here on our way home. When I called to see if they had a dine-in option, they suggested we make reservations to ensure we got a table. They were very accommodating and were able to schedule us for a time within the hour. My friends and I decided to order a few dishes and split them. We ordered the andouille sausage quesadilla, chorizo and cheddar dip, headkeeper toothpicks, and stone oven pizza. Everything was really delicious! I'm glad we ordered multiple dishes so we could try multiple things. The chorizo and cheddar dip had more chorizo than the cheddar, but still was good and served with soft pretzels and chips. There's also hundred of beers and ciders to choose from in the wall of coolers. The bartender helped me pick a cranberry cider and I really enjoyed it! If I was ever in the area again, I would definitely return to The Headkeeper. read more

This was a go to place during my summers in Greensburg. For my last visit before my move we tried a little bit of everything (literally). I order a few things every visit..1.)Toothpicks - the name is misleading. It's a staple during my visits and I am never disappointed. BBQ Chicken, cream cheese, jalapeños... amazing. 2.) the pesto vegetables - mushrooms, peppers and zucchini grilled and drizzled with pesto. This time we also trie the marinated mushrooms, chicken quesadillas and roasted red potatoes. All three were just okay. I could have stuck to my normal order. I also tried the seasonal sangria. Again, just okay. Greensburg is limited in the good food choices so this is one your definitely want to try. Make sure it's a warm summer night so you can enjoy the patio! read more

Im from Philadelphia and every time I come to western Pennsylvania to see my boyfriend we ALWAYS come to Headkeeper! Its my favorite place to eat out that way! The food is amazing! I love the presentation and most importantly the taste. I always try something new every time I go. Thus far, the flavors in the dishes are well balanced and insightful. The food is also cooked as perfect as it could be; shrimp, scallops, filet mignon wonderful! The calamari is my favorite appetizer. I love the sweet thai sauce they toss it in, it really makes it unique! Also, the beer selection is awesome! I really love trying new food and beer here, incredible! I got the ahi tuna but it was cooked too much on the outside. It was rare in the middle but it was cooked too much on the border. It also had a metallic taste which was disappointing. My suggestion would be a spicy mayo drizzle with a dark fish sauce to cut the metallic tuna taste. This is an edit from my last review...yes I took away a star. Heres why, the last two times Ive been here, I came with 2-4 people. We all ordered our food at the same time, BUT it came at all different times! Not okay. The last time I had gotten my food last. I watched everyone else eat while I sat there hungry. And this recent time I sat and ate while my boyfriend watched. Again, not okay. Gotta work on this Headkeeper. Also, my boyfriend's filet mignon came out cooked medium well........gross. Filet mignon should be cooked no more than medium rare. Its common steak knowledge. Now, Ive gotten the filet from here before and never had an "overcooked" issue. And Im obsessed with ahi tuna. Ive had it all down the east coast at different spots. Its a very lean "meat" and therefore needs something fatty to accompany it. Headkeeper served it with a papaya poblano sauce which was unique, but not a good accompaniment to ahi tuna. A spicy cream sauce would be MUCH better. All in all, Ill keep coming back. And I will keep adding or taking away in my review. read more
