This was the reservation that turned The Venue from one of our favorite restaurants in the local area to "we will never dine here again". We went on Valentine's Day, and the evening started our wonderful, with cocktails at the bar and the lovely touch of the owner's grandson gifting a red rose to the ladies. But then the food came. It was a set menu priced $99 per person. All was going well, until one of our entrees arrived, and they sent out raw chicken. Not slightly questionable - clearly still raw. I wouldn't expect that at Denny's never mind a fine dining establishment. The server was apologetic and took the other plate back into the kitchen to keep it warm so that we could eat together. When the food came back out, my husband's crab cakes had gone dry. On my plate, they had simply removed the raw chicken - not finished cooking it or replacing it, but removed it so that there were only two small pieces of chicken, and a huge pile of gnocchi and a huge mess on the plate where they had not taken the time to clean it up. Which was obviously disappointing. When the bill came, my husband questioned whether something should have been taken off the check based on our experience. The owner came over and eventually took $100 off the bill, which was absolutely fine. But then she concluded with "are you satisfied now, because I would like your table back to give to someone else". I don't recall an owner ever being so rude to a couple who have just spent $400 in a restaurant. Customers spending that kind of money should never feel rushed or spoken to like that (we still had half a bottle of wine, which we might have finished there had our experience been different). We tried this restaurant a few years ago for an anniversary dinner and left slightly disappointed. We waited a while to try it again, but I'm glad we did give it another try. We've eaten dinner at the bar twice and once in the restaurant and enjoyed it thoroughly...the staff is so friendly and helpful, especially the bartender Jennifer. The food was delicious -- I had a filet mignon which was cooked perfectly and my husband had a ribeye which has fantastic flavor but was a tad overcooked. The wine list is good, but I'd love to see more options. The restaurant is warm and inviting and has a great vibe. Parking on the street or in the lot across the street is super convenient. This is becoming one of our favorite spots. read more

Very happy to see The Venue has reopened! We stopped in about a month or so ago and we were happy to see the same service staff that had previously taken care of us so well before. Service was wonderful as usual and the restaurant is clean and beautiful as well. We did notice some slight changes to the menu such as the crab salad on the seafood tower; we preferred the taste and presentation of the previous recipe, and the size and quality of the lobster tails, but we understand the new chef has made some changes. I appreciated that my scallops were cooked to perfection and loved every bite! We do look forward to dining here again. read more

My husband and I recently drove an hour to The Venue, drawn in by its 4.3-star Yelp rating. But our experience fell disastrously short of even one star. When we arrived (15 mins early), the ambiance was promising with a speakeasy vibe, but our hopes quickly faded. Although the restaurant wasn't crowded, we were seated five minutes past our reservation, and it took 10 minutes just to get our drink order and 15 minutes to get our drinks. Meanwhile, I noticed a couple waiting at the entrance without a host in sight, eventually being seated 20 minutes later by the bartender--who, disturbingly, was coughing openly without covering her mouth and even coughed on the martinis she was preparing. After waiting another 25 minutes, our waitress returned to take our started order. We started with stuffed mushrooms topped with crab and the Caribbean soup. My husband enjoyed his soup, but my mushrooms were a disaster--hot and drenched in balsamic vinegar, which clashed unpleasantly with the crab. The mushrooms seemed to be pickled. For our main course, my husband ordered colossal king crab legs, and I ordered the Cajun scallops. When the dishes arrived, my husband's "colossal" crab legs were standard king crab legs and so dry they flaked like salted cod. Even imitation crab would have been more enjoyable. To top it off, the butter was kept warm by a wax candle--a cheap touch that did nothing to elevate the experience. My Cajun scallops were the low point. They tasted like pure dirt, the presentation was uninspiring, and there was no hint of Cajun seasoning. Worse, it was clear they hadn't been cooked on a clean surface. When I returned the dish, a male waiter approached with an attitude, insisting, "The chef eats these all the time." I suggested he try this plate himself. Checking Yelp after the fact, I discovered the restaurant had a recent cleanliness violation, which unfortunately aligned with our experience. From the service to the food quality and hygiene, The Venue was a complete letdown. We left feeling frustrated and disappointed. This is not a place we'd recommend or return to. read more

We had a wonderful dining experience here. Our waiter, Ben, was so nice and very accommodating. He had great recommendations. The food was absolutely delicious. My family members in the area did not know about this 6 year old gem. We found it on Yelp or Open Table. When we're back in town visiting my parents again, we will definitely go back. We came here twice in 2021 for an anniversary and a birthday dinner and loved it both times. Tonight we came back and brought 6 members of our family for our annual family dinner. We choose an upscale restaurant to gather together every September and have eaten at some pretty fabulous places. Tonight was no exception. The decor and the service are both top notch which reflects the level of the food and drinks. Starting out with a signature cocktail like the Aperol Spritz or your own favorite like vodka and tonic, the drinks are mixed perfectly and served in a cool retro glass. Move on to an appetizer like the impressive seafood tower, oysters on the half shell or a huge Caesar salad. Or any other option you crave. Those are some we chose. For entrees our group had the Filet, Chilean Sea bass, Crab Cakes, Surf and Turf and the Lobster Ravioli. All the entrees came with nice portions of asparagus and roasted fingerling potatoes or their memorable whipped mashed potatoes. The filets were melt in your mouth tender, the crab cakes were huge chunks of crab with hardly any filler and the lobster raviolis were creamy and delicious. Those who chose the sea-bass said it was good, but all commented that it is usually served thicker. It was a thinner and flatter chunk of fish than they had before when eating that dish and they felt that was a bit disappointing. Desserts were the perfect ending to the meal. We chose the classic Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée, the Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake and the Double Chocolate Torte. All so decadent! We left full and sated. As we walked out through the bar we saw some folks enjoying the Chilean Sea Bass entree. Hmmm, it was about 2 inches thick, just as it should be. Did some of our party get a cheaper version? Was it really sea bass? Although it was a fantastic meal, that did leave us wondering why people at the bar got a prime piece of sea-bass and the three who ordered it at our table did not? Otherwise it was a great tasting meal all around and we were happy. If you're looking for a really good upscale restaurant be sure to give The Venue a try. read more

This was our first time going to the Venue, excited to try their seafood . We were celebrating our one year anniversary. We ordered our drinks and their seafood tower appetizer for two. it was fantastic. There were shrimp, lobster, crab legs, and oysters. we did not realize how much there would be and ordered a meal also. needless to say, we both took our meals home. this would've been plenty to eat. Some of the largest shrimp we ever saw & the oysters were the best we've had anywhere around Pittsburgh. this is a very classy restaurant a little bit expensive, but it was worth it & our waitress was fantastic. I was invited to go to dinner here, and it's a very nice place! The ambiance is upscale modern, and could be fancy or romantic based on what you're celebrating. We were greeted by the owner, who was kind enough to offer to take our coats. Our server, Amy, was incredibly kind, friendly, and attentive. We thought the food portions were huge and we all took little to go boxes with us. The reason I only gave four stars was we didn't feel that we got the best quality of steak and fish for the price we were paying. It was good, but it wasn't the best. I was told the steak was "melt in your mouth like butter," but I didn't agree with that. My dad got Chilean sea bass, and he almost could've sworn what he got wasn't actually sea bass (and it's his favorite fish, so he would know). You can't beat The Venue for a classy special night out. In this case, our Anniversary. The atmosphere- decor, background music and service (Kristine, our waitress) are top notch. We ordered the seafood tower which is a first course, which I had been wanting to try it sounded and looked beautiful, although ran out of oysters for ours. I know now I probably would prefer a hot entree off the main menu, but it was nice to try. Champagne and a pretty cocktail - the "Elizabeth Taylor" and lovely desserts - crème brûlée and lemon blueberry cheesecake completed our special dinner. Food is out of this world. Service is prompt and engaging. Place is clean and well maintained. I went here with my nephew, mother and father. It was my turn to pay the bill. Made a reservation for a specific table some 2 weeks in advance, a confirmation of which I received on my phone. However, when we showed up, our table was occupied by other people. With a lot of attitude, thus demonstrating both rudeness and unprofessionalism in addition to incompetence, we were informed that our only options were to either get a different table or wait till the other people were done. It was almost like we were the ones who had created a problem and were inconveniencing them. No efforts whatsoever were made to make up for their error. Appalled by the way we were being treated, we left. Later on, I decided to call the owner of this establishment, thinking he couldn't possibly approve of the amateurism and rude ways of his personnel. Alas, waste of time. At first, he tried to deny that we had a reservation. When I told him I had proof, he said the guy who had put in our reservation "should not have done that" and "no longer worked there because of stuff like that". Couple more things this man told me: "I'm not going to offer you a free glass, because this was clearly not our fault" and "if you don't like our level of service, go to a different restaurant." And that's exactly what we had done. We ended up going to J. Corks, where we received an excellent meal and outstanding service, even without a reservation. So when it comes to fine dining, that's where we will go from now on and that's where we recommend everyone else to go. read more

Took my wife for her birthday on a recommendation. Ahhh best recommendation ever!!! Very nicely decorated and everyone from the hostess to our waitress (Amy) was extremely nice BUT the food was even better. Tried the spicy gumbo and it was spectacular! The Cesar salad and lobster salad were excellent as well. Main courses, my wife had the crab cakes which were not only huge but prepared to absolute perfection! Lump crab and seasoned wonderfully. Okay, I am not going to argue with the other reviews here, but I do disagree in my final opinion. It is three star, not even close to a five star for multiple reasons. First off, they are trying to be a place that they cannot be, so instead be yourselves (i.e., we are not in a big city - don't charge city prices or serve such small portions). While I cannot deny the atmosphere (good for Greensburg) or the service (ditto) are of good quality (but no where near the five star restaurants I have visiited), and the food is reasonably good (but definitely not worth the very high price point, as I can name numerous places that match or exceed the food quality and quantity, at a much more reasonable price point, in the "east of Pittsburgh" region). The overall experience, comes up a little short. However, if in Greensburg, and you want to impress or have a special celebration, and the relatively high prices are not a concern, then this is the place for you. It is "upscale" but they definitely want you to know it is upscale, and they want you to pay upscale prices, but many aspects of the venue absolutely does not say upscale (including location and view... there is no view). Note, there was a ridiculously significant upcharge for the large ice cube that came in my bourbon (without being indicated by the server). This particularly peeved me. $4 for ice? I'll start with one statement if you plan to eat here I strongly recommend a CHANGE of Venue! We grew up here in Western Pa and had many happy years living in Irwin but had transferred to Connecticut years ago so understand high cost of a premium restaurant and how good fish is prepared. I chose the Salmon filet special which sounded interesting with 5 spices and asked our waitress to make sure the Salmon was prepared medium knowing it is easy to overcook. The very expensive dish was dry and chewy did not include a real vegetable other that a few shaved carrots and I believe cabbage shredded with noodles. My wife ordered Surf n Turf asking for medium rare which came out Medium so again dry and not prepped well. For a meal that cost $166.00 plus tip we expect the quality to be above the norm! Included with this meal were two Cesar salads saturated in store dressing and 3 quite small glasses of wine and one small bottle of San Peligrino . We had booked the seat on line and on arrival we're seated in the bar instead on the restaurant which was mostly empty so the meal price plus seating were totally disappointing. During the meal we were so lucky to have one of the bar patrons wander over in front of our table to get a look at the photos on the wall behind us of old film stars so ambiance was absolutely lacking. Just a ver poor representation of high end dining in all aspects . Would never recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates correct food preparation and value. I don't mind a dinner bill approaching $200 for two people but it has to be a value in all areas. Don't waste your money. read more

First time visit at The avenue. We were celebrating 32nd anniversary. We were looking for surf and turf and wanted something closer to home. I posted a search on several Facebook sites and The Venue came up several times. So glad we chose to come here. The meal was fantastic. Steak was perfect and lobster... oh my goodness!!!!! Our service was top notch and our server.. Aimee.. was outstanding. We made a reservation for a Thursday evening and had a perfect table-tucked away and private. Price was definitely higher than we normally spend at our normal go-to restaurants, but this was a special, fine dining occasion and celebration. Well worth the price. We WILL return. read more

It was tough not to give this restaurant a five star review, even though I'm pretty stingy with them! Really pretty inside, service was great and our appetizer (lobster pizza) was huge for two people and delicious! I had the crab cakes which were pretty good and my hubby had the sea bass, which was also very good. We've had comparable though. When we're in Greensburg, it's tough not to visit another restaurant, which is in our top 10 list. But, we would definitely go back to The Venue. read more

This place is amazing!!! My family has been there many times and each time is better than the last. We just went there for our 12 year wedding anniversary and we revived a complimentary dessert and a bottle of champagne! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal!
