This place felt like sitting down at one of my old Italian great aunts' tables, equal parts love and sass. They do have a menu, but since we showed up without a reservation, they warned us it would be a wait. No problem, the food was worth it every entrée at our table was delicious, and the homemade salad and dressing were outstanding. If you need to be coddled or have your rear kissed, this isn't your spot. But if you appreciate crabby Italian ladies with a sharp sense of humor (and the ability to make amazing food), you'll love it here. Very rude, unprofessional women; we met 2 (unfortunately). The one who cooks comes out to yell at customers if you dare ask a question (the only question we had was about their side dish from their menu, but got a lot of nasty yelling back to a very simple polite question ) We've never experienced anything this appalling. Our whole party was in shock and we couldn't wait to leave; waste of time and money. The food was average at best; their chicken marsala pieces were the size of a skinny chicken nugget with barely any sauce or mushrooms (yes, we have pictures). We had 80 people there and she made Chicken Piccata, 2 types of pasta, green beans with garlic and parm....hot sausage peppers and onions and 2 HUGE salads. I was a bit taken back when we first entered. It was 4:15, and they were opened since 4. But I got a feeling like we weren't supposed to be here. They were obviously not prepared for serving . And I was wondering if we were in the home of my long lost Italian relatives . Pots and pans everywhere, 2 little ladies in their little waist tied aprons. So, I asked for veal piccata . Nope, I would have to wait a while. Agora the veal and we were in a hurry.Chicken Marsala was the specialty . So. I went for chicken piccata with a side of spaghetti with marinara sauce. Well, let me tell you. My first impression was wrong. We were served home style garden salad with homemade balsamic vinaigrette dressing, the bread was a soft, freshly cut ,Italian bread with sesame seed . What could be better smothered with butter. My husband's food was served. He ordered spaghetti, covered with marinara sauce and two LARGE meatballs. Those meatballs almost fell apart. They were delicious . My husband said they tasted like mine, and they did , but better. Now keep in mind, everything is MTO. The woman brought my chicken, which had a light breading coating, which I never heard of this. It was covered with artichokes, capers (mmmm), and the sauce consisted of white wine, chicken stock, butter and lemon . It was to die for and very much worth the wait Now the restaurant is cash only, and BYOB. Since we were the only ones seated for dinner, we were quite cozy in this very small room, which seats about 20, We ate beside the kitchen. And, We were able to hear every conversation.! Entering this place was the strangest five minutes I've ever experienced in a restaurant. We had to look for someone to speak to in the dining room, no one was at the entrance to even ask where we should sit. When we found the woman whom I guess is the owner, she looked confused like what did we want there? My friend asked her if she was open for lunch and she said well lunch is just whatever I'm making today. When we both look confused, she said I can make you pasta, so we asked what else is on the menu and she said I can make anything if you wanna look at it but it's gonna take me a while to cook anything. Well by then, my friend and I were so confused we really didn't want to stay so after pretending to look at the menu. I thanked her. And as we were leaving, she said if you want a filet mignon you can go up the street. What the hell does that mean? I've never been treated like that coming into a restaurant. Their website had no indication that they had specialized menus or food made to order by requests or maybe would be open for lunch or maybe not depending on her rude attitude that day. I felt like we were interrupting her day and how dare we enter her restaurant and ask for food?!? How she's got so many four star reviews I don't understand. Maybe those people were lucky enough to catch her in a good mood that day. Instead we found a great Chinese restaurant up the street, Szechuan Garden and they had great food, excellent customer service and a huge menu with very reasonable prices. And what a surprise! Reasonably good food for the price. The side plate of spaghetti with marinara was good, salad was excellent. Wal mart sesame bread and butter was good. Chicken piccata was not very authentic and the breading was too thick. Piccata should be lightly breaded not deep fried. I forget the name of the lady working but she was the kindest, best cook I've ever met in my life. She got us in and out in time to see our show at the palace theater and served us bread a delicious salad and yummy pasta. This is a treasure on W. Pittsburgh St. in the heart of Greensburg, for those who care about eating the best authentically home-prepared Italian food a la Roseanne. We were introduced to it by my mom's Italian hair designer, Anthony. He loves to cook too, so you know it has to be awesome! And it is. It has become our GO TO place for the most amazing Chicken Piccata, meatballs, salad, and pre-ordered specialty dishes. (even pizza!) My dad LOVED her eggplant parmesan. Reservations are nice because many groups like to book her intimate, homey restaurant. It's my favorite. Best to call in advance, have an empty tummy, and tip handsomely. I pored over every review possible of this restaurant, and was intrigued by the claims of its uniqueness. I was even looking forward to interacting with the owner, based on the many comments of reviewers across the Internet. So, i feel we were very prepared for our unique dining experience. What other reviewers say is true: the food is outstanding. Seriously, zero complaints! We were especially happy with one of our appetizers- the Italian egg roll. I would honestly order a few of those as an entree if i returned! The dinners were served with a generous lovely salad, nice fresh bread, a side of pasta with a delicious marinara. The pace of the meal was perfect. Plenty of time to enjoy our appetizers and salad before the plates were cleared and our dinners served. We brought a bottle of wine which, judging from other tables, is the absolute norm there. But, on the flip side, what reviewers say about the atmosphere is true also. As I mentioned, I went into this experience fully prepared for an unappealing atmosphere, so I won't detract more than one star for this. But really, I'll be honest that it took away from our experience. I get it- atmosphere doesn't interest the owner. But we felt downright awkward sharing a tiny dining room with a few other diners, with the bright lights and no music. Just turn on a radio and turn down the lights a bit... It wouldn't even cost anything to make such a huge improvement. One other thing of note, is that when I called to make the reservation, the owner indeed asked for my order over the phone. Which I was expecting, but I was still a bit thrown off by the rather short "well what do you want me to make for you?" retort to my polite request for a table for two. I was really put on the spot, hoping she would at least verbally guide me through a menu, but really I was just basically asked to tell her what to cook. Luckily, with some back and forth conversation, and drawings from my recollection of reviewers' recommendations, we came up with a dinner order. {To be fair, she gave me the option of looking at a photo of the menu on another review site. I had already seen this user uploaded pic, which was extremely difficult to read due to blurriness and shadows. I had full intentions of taking my own picture to help future customers but alas, was never given a menu during our visit.} The owner wasn't rude per say, but I didn't get the warm fuzzies from her that other guests apparently do. Tried complimenting her about a half dozen times and never even got a nod or smile in response. So all in all. Fabulous food. A hidden gem! Heard about this place from a friend and have been here twice now. Yes, the atmosphere isn't first class; the lights are bright, no music, and it is very small. But on the other hand, you're getting an amazing home cooked meal, it is BYOB and the perfect place to enjoy a dinner with several friends. Each time I've been there the dining room has been full (and tight) but each table was very friendly and chatted with each other. Make sure you call for a reservation and know what you would like because everything is made to order. If you have a large group you will be served family style, which is a great way to try everything I HIGHLY recommend the chicken piccata and Italian Eggrolls for an app. The homemade salad dressing is amazing and I love the marinara sauce. Next time I go I plan to order the chicken and peppers and lasagna, suggested by the owner. read more

Wait. Really? We must not be talking about the same restaurant, because the place I just went to was a DUMP. Within 20 seconds, I was convinced it was not the place to be. First off, there's crap everywhere. Surprised there hasn't been a Hoarder's spin-off called Restaurant Edition inspired by this restaurant. Second, the lady who came to seat us (presumably seat us) had no intention of making it feel like a restaurant. She started off by saying there was no menu and that we can eat whatever they're making (without following up with what they're making). After asking what we might be having, we found there main course would be "fish" and a soup that involved scallops. That's it. There wasn't even a name for the meal. All that said, I'm giving the place two stars as we left and never actually got to try the fish. read more

Incredible food! We had fried zucchini and calamari, chicken piccata, ravioli, and Boston cream cake and fried dough for dessert. All of it was homemade, and tasted delicious. You do need to be flexible - the dining room is small, there's only one or two people working there, and you'll eat whatever the chef, Roseanne, has made that evening. Roseanne was so funny. I can't speak to the food quality because I found the woman handling my reservation to be very rude. When I called to double check the time a few days later , she confirmed the time but made a comment about me not having an order IN. She said "you can put one on or you'll just have to wait, that's how it is" . I didn't answer fast enuf and she says "HELLO?" I said "never mind, just cancel it" she quickly gave me a "goodbye" and hung up. I know these are trying times and maybe she is short handed? But I wasn't planning to be a burden, I wanted to give her new business. She apparently has no need for it. Totally a place for Greensburg locals and it's amazing! It only seats about 30 people in the entire restaurant. First things first, there is no menu. You get to select what you want from what they have that day. From what I understand, dinners are mostly your classic Italian fare. I stopped for lunch and had a cup of sausage and bean soup and an Italian style hamburger with chips on the side. I would most definitely call for reservations before you come. Seeing all the great Yelp reviews for restaurants in Greensburg, my husband and I detoured on a trip to Pittsburgh a couple of weeks ago to have dinner there. We chose La Vita's as the most intriguing of our options, and were very happy that we did. Truthfully, we were stunned by both the generous servings and the fantastic quality of the food. Before the entrée, we were undone by a delicious salad, excellent bread, and La Vita's "Italian Egg Rolls". We got cheese ravioli and chicken with peppers for our main course - excellent, both. As another reviewer said, the Italian egg rolls and salad are truly amazing, so I would be tempted to triple down on them for an entrée. I can't say I get the fixation on 'atmosphere' of other reviews - this is a small, highly personalized European style dining experience - I personally loved the intimacy of the dining room and can see why it is a local treasure. If you are looking for a familiar mega restaurant décor or feel, you will have missed your mark and wasted the chef's time. I felt like I was in a small town in Italy - it was an exhilarating experience, and one we are grateful for. As we were there at the end of the evening, we did have an opportunity to chat with the chef/owner (delightful!), but if we had not, it would not have detracted from our experience. Well I read the other reviews and have to say that I was APPALLED by the rude comments made by some of the customers. I thought the food was FANTASTIC and the service was GREAT! Served to us by a very special lady who ran herself ragged cooking,taking the orders, bussing the tables, The woman running all of this makes SUPER WOMAN look like a wimp! If I'm ever in Greensburg again I absolutely will stop by again to enjoy every bit of everything wonderful that this wonderful little AUTHENTIC ITALIAN restaurant has to offer! La Vita's was just terrific. Small place which we liked. We were 14 people in total and had veal piccata, shirmp scampi, veal parm, eggplant parm, calamari, salad and bread. All equally fantastic. Roseann was very lovely and accommodating to my daughter who is gluten free. Wonderful celebration for my daughters college graduation from St. Vincents with awsome food.
