It's Lent, Friday and we saw on Facebook that the Sunset had beer battered fish. Thats what it took for us to try. We were not disappointed. Our server, Melissa, was happy and quick with our drink orders. The main menu was extensive but, we stuck with the beer battered fish. Real table cloths and cloth napkins, really appreciated. The bun of the sandwich is slightly crusty with a softer inside. Just perfect for this type of sandwich. The fish was perfectly battered and fried. I requested fries and my wife ordered beer battered onion rings. These dinners exceeded our expectations and with our wonderful server Melissa, we had a terrific dinner. Thank you. read more

Their pasta fagioli soup is described on the menu but leaves out 1 important ingredient. I ordered it thinking it would be as described. NO - It had pork in it!!. Shouldn't that be listed in the description to help diners know what they're getting? Sent it back & got minestrone. read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND THE PIZZA I've been a resident of Greensburg for 58 years and have eaten at the Sunset many, many times. However, I doubt I will ever return after our last visit in February. I use to say: "I never met a pizza I didn't like". Well after this last visit to the Sunset, I can no longer say that. The (large) pizza was absolutely horrible. We live less than 10 minutes away. We both took one piece when we got it home, took a couple bites, looked an each other and threw the whole thing away. There went $23.50 in the trash. It was the crust, I don't know where the buy it but it's horrible. It was heavy, tough and doughy. My guess is that they no longer make the crust in house and they buy it somewhere. I can remember when it used to have some must have been raised and had some air in it. read more

It's been quite a while since we've been here. Tonight was by accident and so glad we decided to give it try. We were in town for the Night Market, except that it was last week! So we decided to go to dinner. We've done our usual Greensburg favorites for Thai and Mediterranean so tonight we went for Italian. As soon as we parked we noticed the difference. Lots of parking which was not the case years ago. Also a very nice exterior makeover caught my eye. Entering the restaurant I noticed it also had undergone an interior update since I was last there. We were greeted promptly and seated even though we had no reservation. It was around 5:15 on a Thursday. Our waitress was Sam and she could not have been nicer. She took care of us very well from the water glasses to the final bill, everything was done quickly and efficiently. Now the food...what a great menu! I had a hard time deciding but ended up ordering something I would not usually make for us at home. I had the Veal Piccata. My daughter ordered gnocchi with sausage sauce. They both were prepared very well. The veal was tender and her gnocchi were soft and plump. The entrees came with soup or side salad. I ordered my salad with dry blue cheese on the side. Had I known it already came with cheese, I would not have asked for more! The bread tray was amazing! The dipping oil was really good with a bit of Parmesan cheese shredded into it. I could have made a meal on that bread! My cocktail was on the menu billed as the "best dirty martini in Westmoreland County" so I had to order that to see if they deserved those bragging rights. It was pretty darn good, served with three hand stuffed blue cheese olives. I should have asked what brand of vodka they used...it maybe could have been better with a smoother vodka, but still one of the best around. No room for desserts, but they did sound tempting. I need to come back to explore more menu items and maybe try a dessert next time. read more

My seven siblings and spouses plus a few nephews and nieces met for a rare get-together. The staff was very accommodating, the food was quite good and their wine selection was better than expected. I had a wonderful Italian red that complimented the food and experience perfectly. The ambiance was nice, cozy but not restrictive, we had a group of 20 and there was room to mill around and kabitz without feeling cramped or lost in a cavernous space. The Sunset Café used to be one of my favorite places to go for a Italian food. Unfortunately, the last two times I was there I was disappointed the last time which was just March 6 2026 was another disappointment. I ordered their chicken Parm and the chicken was completely burnt. The pasta was dried out. I guess they figured if you cover it with sauce, no you'll never know. Sorry to leave this review because I really liked that place. Well I ever go back again possibly. Went on a Sat around 6.30 pm. Ate on the patio. Not sure if they were short-handed, but service was slow. The waitress was good, kitchen needs improving. Waited 20 minutes on a cocktail from bar. Ordered pep/mush pizza. I can honestly say it was one of the worst I ever had. Crust wasn't done and it wasn't hot. Sauce was bland, could not find many pepperoni or mushrooms. Sauce was on top? Our friend's dishes were not hot either. Seems like they were sitting awhile before being served. Our dinner took almost two hours. Doubt I will visit again. read more

It was a late dinner we were expecting the staff to be less than steller, but to our pleasant surprise, our witness was extremely accommodating and the food superb. Everything we ordered was tasty and generous in portion. We brought a dish and left overs home that was promptly devoured by family that stayed home. We will be back. We had the pleasure of having a celebration dinner with a group of friends. The decor is warm, inviting, and clean. Our server, I believe his name, was Andrew was fabulous, especially for a bigger group. All the staff we incountered was just great. I've been coming here forever with family. It's a solid restaurant in the Greensburg area. Staff is friendly and service is quick. The inside is fine but could use some updates as it feels a little stuffy. Good for a dinner with friends. The pasta is great and I enjoy their large salads as well. There is off street parking but can be limited when they are crowded. read more

Some of us had spaghetti which was really piled up and the gnocchi was very good as well. What has happened to the Sunset Cafe? We have been coming here for 40 years... always one of our favorite places. The new ownership is not doing the restaurant any favors. Last night, I had a reservation for over a week to sit inside. When I arrived I was seated outside in 80 degree temperatures with half of our party in the sun. If you couldn't honor my reservation you should not have taken it! I felt sorry for the young man who waited on us as he was the only server on the patio! It took forever to get our meal and it was average at best. The owner came out to talk with another table of people who could not even get waited on and he was very rude. The Sunset is no longer a friendly welcoming place and we will not be returning! I have heard many others day the same thing. read more

Visited for the first time on 12/09/23 after seeing a ballet. The hostesses were very pleasant. The restaurant was incredibly beautiful inside. Smelled amazing. Even though they were busy they sat us a little before our reservation. I got a glass of Elmo Pia Moscato and it was absolutely amazing. Very crisp and refreshing. The wedding soup was top notch. The Fettuccini Alfredo was the best I have ever had. I don't know what they put in the sauce but I can drink it from a bowl it was so good. Our waitress was very sweet and efficient! She made great recommendations and was honest about what she had and hadn't tried. Definitely will be returning! The atmosphere was very calm and pleasant. No rushing, no hurrying us out. Went here for a special dinner in their upstairs event space. Staff was amazing and the food was fantastic. The set up a buffet and everyone was pleased with the salad, mains, and dessert. I've lived in Greensburg for many years and this was my first visit to Sunset Cafe. It was a late winter snowy night, but the restaurant was very busy and we sat at a small table by the bar which was fine. The menu is mostly Italian food and we ordered veal Parmesan with a side of spaghetti and the sampler of lasagna, gnocchi and ravioli. Preceded by salads, rolls and Italian soup. The tomato sauce was terrific. Large portions and very filling. Lots of people were getting takeout pizza, although this is a more upscale restaurant than a pizza restaurant. Cozy, if a little dated, separated dining rooms in a mid downtown vintage looking house. Great service too!. Look forward to a return visit! read more

We have been going to the Sunset for many years but since the new owners arrived, the place is no longer welcoming and a fun place to go. The new owners apparently only like the people they know and like, very cold and unfriendly. Would not go there any more unless there will be new management at some point. All the previous employees are gone, so that alone is telling. The food is okay, but I am sure it will go down hill with the new ownership. There are much better places out there for Pizza and Italian food; they have lost us (I'm sure they don't care) and some other friends as long-time customers. Good Luck! SUCH A GREAT EXPERIENCE!! We drove by on our way to another restaurant and noticed the adorable patio. We were googling "good Italian restaurants with patios in Greensburg" since we were out that way for an event one evening. Sadly, this place did not show up and we went to another place close that was not nearly as good! We came back a few weeks later after looking at the menu online. It was such a great dinner. We sat outside and had a great time. Nice music on the patio as well. The inside looked nice and clean, too. Cole was our waiter and he was so friendly. He gave great recommendations as well. The hostess got us bread and water and appeared to be so helpful to the wait staff. I got Bella Angela, My husband got Veal Saltimbocca, our oldest daughter got fett alfredo with chicken and we also had chicken fingers and fries and a kids pizza. All meals were delicious. We had 2 appetizers as well: Greens and Beans and Fried Zucc. The Fried Zucc was so good, very thin and crisp. Would highly recommend. We will definitely be back! read more

Really fantastic Italian food. When I first started to go there in the 70's it was a good ole basic Italian restaurant with a good bar. Now they have expanded but the food is just as good. Now they have added new Italian dishes and the restaurant itself has expanded. A more sophisticated dining experience. read more

The seasoned olive oil that comes with the hot bread is seasoned with fresh garlic, rosemary, asiago cheese and other spices; could make a meal on that alone! We have eaten at the Sunset many times since the late 70s and have always enjoyed our meals. Tonight was the first time we've gone there since the change of ownership and we're very disappointed. The hostess and wait staff were attentive and friendly and I'll give them 5 stars which is why my overall rating is 2 stars instead of 0. The bread was very good but the dipping oil was just olive oil and parmigiana cheese and nothing special. The calamari was cooked perfectly and the breading and marinara were excellent however the calamari were cold. My wife ordered a dish she always loved but brought it home and added garlic and spices to give it taste. I ordered crab stuffed salmon with a shrimp sauce and shrimp. The risotto and vegetable medley were good. The salmon unfortunately had been cooked too long and the shrimp sauce was tasteless. The crab stuffing was only mediocre. For an entree that cost $39.90 I expect something really special and this dish was definitely not worth the price. I suggest the chef/cook taste what they are preparing and pay attention to temperature and cooking times. We will never go back. RIP Sunset! read more

Be sure to visit for happy hour! I stopped in with friends yesterday for happy hour (5-7). We ordered several small plates - buffalo chicken flatbread, garlic and chicken flatbread, and baked goat cheese - which are 1/2 off. It was plenty of food for three of us. I had the white sangria. This restaurant changed hands and the new ownership is awful. We went in to sit at the bar and waited quite a while to be waited on. The owner (woman) finally asked us if we wanted anything. We asked for 2 beers and she left and never came back. She said she was the new owner and knew nothing about bartending. The bartender came to us and said....are you eating because it could be a problem? We asked why and she said that there were new owners and the kitchen was backed up, POS system wasn't working.
